[Q] Good Portfolio Case? (not the Moto one) - Xoom Accessories

I was looking for a good portfolio case for my XOOM. I was looking for something like the iPad cases where they are portfolio style and is made of soft material so my xoom doesn't get scratched up...
any ideas?

I just ordered my xoom so I'm waiting for it to ship before I order a case, but I'm planning on getting this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Quality-Leath...3ZW6/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1310795929&sr=8-6
I saw it mentioned in another thread and it seems like all of the Ayl cases get pretty great reviews. The exterior is leather and the interior is microfiber so it shouldn't scratch. Plus, at only $10 it's much more affordable than some other cases out there.

Wow! Nice. 10 reviews and all rated it 5 stars. I'm going to order one right now!
Thanks a bunch.

Np... Hope I didn't point you in the wrong direction, but based on the reviews, it seems like it should be pretty good. Be sure to post a review or something when you get it because you'll probably get it before I order mine lol.

i dont understand you people. that's exactly the same as the leather moto folio.

Sure, the design is based on the leather moto folio, but the price is probably the key point here.

Warning...if it is just like the Moto leather folio, the channels cut for viewing angles may be too shallow for some as the Xoom has a tendency to collapse at steep angles. Maybe you will not have the problem. Just saying.

It's the same basic concept with a fair amount of key differences...
-fasteners have a different design
-inside is line with microfiber to prevent scratches (which is a common complaint for the moto)
-exterior is all leather, including fasteners
-as mentioned, lower price. Even if everything was the exact same, you get it for 1/3 the price.
Based on the reviews, it's the same idea with better execution.

I am one of the reviewers on Amazon. It's a fantastic case and for 10 bucks, come on it's a no brainer. I'd definitely recommend this over all the existing leather cases out there now. And who knows when this discounted price ends, its original price is more like 30 bucks.

It stays in the angles without budging, but I admit that because the surface is microfiber suede it may be slippery if you jab hard at the top of the xoom. There is no problem if you type at the bottom half of the screen. And normal presses and swipes on the screen are ok. Just don't jab hard repeatedly at the top 1/3 of the screen and you should be fine.

Targus cases are great quality, at least my P1000 Galaxy Tab one genuine leather was perfect.
The Xoom one sells for like $45+ shipping etc at Amazon. They are really good I think. Worth the price.

I guess I'm an idiot for waiting... the ayl case is now $5 more than before. Not a whole lot, but still wasted money from waiting. Oh well. I just placed my order and I'll be sure to give a review or contribute to another thread on the case once I receive mine.
I should be getting my xoom tomorrow, so I'll have time without a case to make me appreciate having a case even more.

I got one of these from ebay.

I just have a quick question about the AYL case, is the closure magnetic? I can't seem to find any confirmation that it is (looks like it in the pics), or in the reviews.
Thanks.

It is not magnetic. But the cover closes very tightly onto the xoom, so there are no worries about the cover flipping out on its own. You have to shut the cover with some force actually, but the suede inner lining will not scratch it.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! So I guess it's just like a clip that goes over the top of the device? I just wanted to make sure it wasn't velcro, I hate that crap, lol!
Just ordered, but unfortunately it seems like they are out of stock for the moment... Gonna have to wait a few weeks it seems...

I bought the ZooGue case. I really like it. The onlu thing wrong was that it has a funny smell. Took care of that with vinegar and water and now the smell is gone. The stand is adjustable because the bottom was flat and there is velcro to adjust the view.

yes if you don't like supporting Real US Sellers and tanking our economy further. i realize buying american products is impossible but the few dollars more to buy from american sellers is a small price to pay to support our country. Crystal cases for Uni

I am considering getting one after my O2 got a new body, so was wondering if anyone used a crystal case and whether it's a good idea, whether they slip off at all, whether there is any damage to the points of contacts, edges etc. At the moment all of my Unis and variants live in leather book-type cases with clear keyboard covers, I am sure you know the type. The crystal cases are fairly cheap, I used one for my Magician and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread, but have my reservations about the clamshell form factor.
Maybe it was just the type that I got but I had problems with the crystal case preventing me from being in tablet mode. It wouldn't let the screen lie flat against the keyboard. I have found that the aluminum case is the best...

I noted crystal cases also come with a belt clip moulding on the flat part that would be against the table in laptop mode, so I guess lying the JasJar flat against the table and typing would be difficult as well. I have my leather book-type cases, just thought crystal case would be a nice addition. On further examination I realised probably not.

It´s a bad picture, I have been using this ones and believe me it fits perfect! as a medical glove
I have that one as well. The only thing that doesn't line up well is the spine-the power connector and audio connector and such. BUT, it's hardly a problem since the skin is flexible and i can still connect the power and usb cables without any effort. I love the feel of it now and it looks a lot better than it did. I recommend it. I even tried to find this skin for my hermes and wizard. Unfortunately, I have the versions of these that aren't supported. Can't beat the price though for the Uni.

Yeah it is expensive. Anyone fancy buying in bulk and selling on eBay?!
Should hint to DealExtreme, haha, they do free postage to a lot of places. For me in NZ postage costs are always a problem and something we just accept as a part of life As one example - I just paid 3GBP to send a tiny internal speaker for LG Prada (we are talking an item the size of a pinky nail) to NZ, while the only other place selling the same part wanted 11 EURO!!!!
Lots of silicone cases for Unis, all selling for 99c or so, just have to find the best priced postage.

Can you post pics? Is it a really snug fit or is it loose? I want a really snug fitting case, I hate the really loose fitting cases.
It fits as snug as a silicon case will fit. I usually am not a huge fan of silicon cases but this one is nice. I prefer no designs on it and this one has none.

Yeah, you can get think of it as a soft rubber case. From my understanding this type of material is good for absorbing impact (i.e. a drop).

quick qs....does it have the cutout for the power button? I see a cutout at the top left corner and i believe thats where the power button for the overseas samsung galaxy is...
edit: wait, i think i do see the cutout can anyone confirm?
Its not a cutout for the power button, its a molded cover. The power button is very easy to use with this case.

Have one and have no complaints. Well worth the $6
How is it for taking in and out of your pocket? Does it grab? What about collecting Lint?
Being a soft silicon, it will grab your pocket to some extent depending upon the pocket...and it does collect dust & lint, although a lot less than I expected and it brushes clean quite easily.
I got mine today, and its perfect. A nice snug fit that doesnt feel too gummy or add much bulk at all.

The case showed up today from the eBay seller and I have to say I'm quite pleased.
It's fairly sturdy, holds the tablet snugly in place with a velcro strap, has perfectly aligned openings for the camera, charging port, headphone jack etc., has all the other features of an iPad case like folding up to incline for typing or watching movies and when closed it's held shut with hidden magnets.
I've put all the pictures I took of the case into an album for those of you who are looking for a case.

Nice, thank you so much for the amazing pictures.
So when it's shut down it doesn't open up by mistake? The magnets attach to the tablet itself?
It's certainly the best price for this type of case.... now I am torn between this one and the official book sleeve case (which is $ 60!)

No, when it's closed it stays shut and is very solid. The magnets are in the edges of the flap that closes and in the part that covers the bezel of the tablet (right where the front-facing camera is).
Because of how sleek and light the GT10.1 is I didn't want a case that would add too much bulk like the ones I've seen for the XOOM. As long as it holds together this case fits the bill perfectly and I don't see myself replacing it
Nice find! Wish I would of read this thread earlier. For the $17.99 price with free shipping why not? Personally I'd raise that price if I were them!
This is actually Polyurethane (PU) and not leather. But I'm sure you all assumed that given the price

I've been using mine for a week now and I'm quite happy with it, especially for the price I paid.
When using it as a stand, it's not the most stable unless you arrange it so that you're viewing it "upside-down" but it'd be fine as long as it's on a stable surface.
Weight?
Do you have the specs on the weight of this case? I want one that is *really* *really* light to go with the low weight of the gtab
This a nice find. I will definitely keep this in mind.

I currently have the belkin slim folio case but I find very hard to insert and take the tab out because the case is very tight and its material generates too much friction.
Is it hard to insert and take the tab out from this case?

Also, it has to be unfolded to be charged correct?
Hm... this looks like a nice case for carrying the tab around. I actually got a soft gel (TPU) case just to be able to throw the tablet around at home since I already have a screen protector. And I like how it's texturized on the sides for better grip.

looks like they upped it. It was $9.98 when I posted.
I think that the pyro case (and several others) are the same rebranded chinese thing. I really don't care, all I want is to pay less for it. At $15, it still beats most of the others by at least a few bucks. I'll review it when it gets here.
BTW- I'll update the OP with the price.
I bought this case from amazon for 9.98 shipped and received it in two days! They apparently had a promotion going because they refunded my money and let me keep the case for free in exchange for a review. Great case, great build quality and looks great!
This is the 3rd variation of the same case. I think it's all the same manufacturer just different distributors. I'm in!
Just got mine for 9.98 great quality and got it for free after I left them a review.
I don't know how everybody is giving this case such great reviews. Sure, it's cheap and does its job, but the quality is definetely not there. I got mine yesterday and the clips on the top seem somewhat uneven between each corner. Also, the case does not stay fully flat when holding the tablet opened in your hands. That's quite annoying and makes it basically unusable to me. The case also seems to bulge when closed due to the middle clamps holding the tablet; which, by the way, cover a bit of the bottom portion of each speaker.
For the price, I'd give this case 4 stars, but 5 stars is just too much. People are easily satisfied I suppose.

Look, I don't disagree that it's not perfect, but after owning many, many different cases for many different tablets, I have to say that this one is about as good as it gets for the price. The only cases I've seen that are better quality cost $50 or more. Maybe you got one that is defective; for the price that wouldn't surprise me. Get them to replace it. Also, please don't dismiss those of us that are happy with the case with "People are easily satisfied I suppose." That's rude.
BTW- I tried to figure out what you were talking about when you said "the case does not stay fully flat when holding the tablet opened in your hands" and realized the problem: you're not holding it tight enough. It's new material and needs to be conditioned. Squeeze it a bunch of times to loosen and crease the bottom edge.
I'll try to conditition it when I get home. Do you also notice a bulge when closing it from the middle clips?

Yes. I have a clearprotector full body protector and it fits fine. So far no problem with it catching when I open and close the flap.
BTW- I think this is exactly the same case as the "pyro case" which has a huge thread here. Except much less expensive...
Please be honest guys, does your case stay flush when opening it 360 degrees without pushing it against its back? I find this highly annoying. I've been trying to break the leather all day and have had no success!
Also, anyone else here find that the locking flap marked their tablet over time? I'd hate for that to happen.
Thanks in advance...

My case doesn't stay flush (if you mean folding it completely back like a magazine?) but neither did my belkin ultra thin folio. I believe its because of the design. The only way I can see it staying flush is if the material used was very pliable or there was a hinge (kind of like a notebook with rings).
Also, I too felt that it might scratch my tab with the front clip, but so far it hasnt. Overall, its a good case and in some aspects better than the belkin ultra thin folio.
Yeah, it's growing on me. I do wish it stayed more fluch when fully opened. I feel they could have made the flap holding both parts together a bit longer to allow that to happen.
I'm going barenaked with the tablet on this thing. I really hope it doesn't scratch the edges of my tablet. I have been puyshing the locking flap a bit outward so there's not much resistance to close it. Seems to help a bit.

I got a letter shipped with mine that basically said to do a review for the case and rate it and my payment would be refunded. Wrote the review and was refunded the next day.
gah so frustrating!! amazon doesnt ship to nz....sigh sigh.....
What on earth would make this case incompatible with the verizon version of the tab? Something in the case blocking the 4g signal?

Uhhh... what about the different position of the buttons on the LTE models? Look up the user uploaded photos on the Amazon description of the Pyro Case.

[ REVIEW ] VIPERTEK Leather clip case quick review

This case is very nice. Especially for the price of under 15 bucks shipped. The leather is very soft, almost feels real haha. Might be... The clips are very secure, they do not block any ports, speakers etc. There is a nice "friction" styled clip that holds great closed. The different angles for viewing the tab are great too, very solid "lock up". The interior material is soft too.
In the end, you cant go wrong with this case.

Not for Italy....thank you amazon!
I got it for $10 shipped from Amazon, and they are offering to refund the whole thing if you leave a review.
I don't think they are doing it anymore...
Sent from my Galaxy Tab!
I got my case yesterday, been waiting since August 24th or something for it lol. It was on backorder, but I got a paper saying if I did a review (not a 5 star.. I says just a review) I could get a refund. I will say I like this case a lot better than the Samsung one, for the main reason it has more angles. It does feel a bit more rough on the tab, but I like how all the ports/buttons are showing.
If you just need a case to hold your tab at angles while you use it, I think this is the cheapest case out there for it.
The Samsung official book case is very very nice, and super thin. But the viewing angles are horrible. I have this case on the way and will be going with this one for sure.
I just got a Galaxy Tab last week (gift from awesome girlfriend...) - ordered a 3 pack of screen protectors (Acase, not too bad) and this case on Amazon.
Ordered the case on Thursday, had it by Saturday (Amazon Prime). Looks like some people were waiting quite a while to get these.
I was hoping for a case that was made of fairly tight leather... you know how some cases look cheap because the leather is very poofy, has a lot of extraneous padding in it? So, this case still retains a slim sleek look, like a nice portfolio.
I like the microfiber inside with the three grooves for leaning the device into.
I wish the clip that held the case closed was like 2mm longer so it really reaches around the corner of the device and clips in solidly. It's held closed pretty well, but I've been bending it a bit to make it clasp just a bit tighter.
There's a little embossed viper logo on the front... some other brand on Amazon, equally cheap, had the Samsung logo on there.
In all, pretty great case for about $15 shipped.
The card I received in my package did instruct me to write a five star review for them, but DID NOT mention anything about getting a refund if you do so. I would say don't buy expecting to get it for free
I also just recieved this case. It's pretty slick, way better than the cheap eBay case I was using before (which cost twice as much.) Only complaint is that the case was mighty stinky to begin with, but its fine now.
this case is awesome and is way better than the official Samsung one. it did cause the newton ring, but I got rid of it. going to see if this trick works to keep the ring off.
This case is just superb for the price.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
This case has been reviewed several times, although under different names. Search for "clip case." I got it free (after the refund). For me it's the best case on the market right now.
just ordered one of these just to have another spare. 15 cases to my collection. i really need to stop. this is getting ridiculous. lol.
Hahahah! You, sir, have what we call a case-by-case addiction!
These are exactly like the Pyro one you reviewed a while back. Can't beat the price though.
I agree, it's like the Pyrotek case. It looks a bit on the cheaper quality side, but I got it because I was tired of the wonky angles the official case was giving me.

So the only difference between this case and the Pyro case is that this one feels cheaper? It feels pretty nice to me. The price is just untouchable though. lol
I always wondered what the difference between this and the pyro case was.
yeah haha I dont know how come can consider this cheap lol price yeah but quality? Its pretty much to go to case for the tab. Its 15 bucks shipped, looks great, feels great, quality and craftsmanship is nice too.
Its just another case with the crappy stand design. Its not worth it. Look at the massive foot print it has when in stand mode. How can you use the device on your desk when the bottom case sticks out at you like a sore thumb. Very annoying.

I made my assessment from looking at task650's review on the Pyro Skin case.
When I look at my case, the clips that hold in the sides of the tab have so overlapping of the material (which I just trimmed off) the material that the tab stands up on for the angles has this grainy look on it, whereas on the pyroskin one, it looks smooth. There's the little notches on the 2nd stand that the pyroskin case has, that looks like it may promote a tighter close, where on this case the side clips just press onto it. Although all these observations could possibly be exclusive to my case.
That's what I made my observations on. I'm not saying it's a POS... because it's not; i'm just saying the quality LOOKS a bit on the cheaper side... which is fine by me because it was cheap as hell and it does it's job awesome.
