Car dock questions - Atrix 4G Accessories

For anyone that owns the car dock:
1) how's the quality? Is it nice? Or is it a cheapo peice of junk?
2) how does it charge the phone? Via cigarette lighter? Or does it not charge the phone?
3) if I wanted to listen to music, does it come with/turn into an FM transmitter? Or do I just plug it into the auxiliary port on my car?
Thanks!

I can speak to the Moto version, it's the one I have. There's an AT&T branded one also. Moto version comes with a USB connection from the dock to a dual USB cigarette lighter charger. At the charger end of the USB plug, there's a short pigtail female aux jack that can plug directly to a 1/8" stereo aux cable to go to your 1/8" aux jack in your stereo (comes with cable also). It charges well, except when the battery gets hot. It tends to do that in direct sunlight unless you blow a/c on it. I would suggest looking at a vent clip for it, that's my plan. This would most likely work with it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015A6YN6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I found this online: http://www.androidcentral.com/motorola-atrix-car-dock-eyes-mwc
Is that the car dock you own? I didn't see anything on it like the cables you described.

Yep, USB plugs into the back in that square indent. It wasn't a thorough review.

I got the ATT one and that one does not come with a charger. It comes with the usb/aux cable and dock. I got a rocketfish 2 AMP charger and it works great for it. Charging is great other than when it gets really hot in the sun (all black interior)
The new car dock 2.3.4 software is great and looks better than the earlier 2.2.2 and via AUX the sound quality is great on spotify / slacker / FLAC's and and mp3's into my stereo. I have my mounted near my gearbox and can easily tap what I want while shifting.
Work the money... I think all docks are worth it if it works into your day to day usage.

Thanks guys. Planning on buying this now I've got the Motorola Car Charger from Amazon, so not having a charger come with it is okay for me.

I've heard the dock doesn't work with many cases, so I want to build my own, but the split cable is the most important part. Does anyone know where I can get one, or even which wires are set to which pins? I could solder up my own if I had to, but would need to know what I was supposed to end up with first.

You can get the official Moto case on cnn.cn then by removing the insert from th dock you get a perfect fit. There is a thread on it: Ruggedized Battery Cover.

just to chime in
I have the moto version purchased thru att for $25. The dock works great plugged into the aux on my car. I've even used it to take calls handsfree through my car's stereo (have to turn the volume down on the phone pretty low for best results). The suction cup works well and holds it tight, I use it on my bike as well for bluetooth to my SENA SMH10 on my helmet.

The volume rocker maintains control.

I went ahead and purchased the phone through AT&T and used the 25% off discount for a steal at $29 plus two day free shipping.

thanx!! jj
but it's doesn't work , for some reason when we upgrade to gb we loose control volume thru usb the same as car dock use it

I also noticed that the only control the volume rocker has over the phone when docked in the car is either on or off. This is not good for me, I used the phone through car speakers and can not control the volume from the phone. This makes the calls distorted...

Sounds like you are running a customized ROM with the wake on volume mod. The car dock application runs on top of the standby / lock screen, so my guess is that the volume rocker has been hijacked by the mod, preventing the volume from being able to control the volume when locked and car dock app active. I think gingerbread has a way to go still which is why I am still on Froyo.

I believe this is correct, and I agree fully on the gb thing. I want to put it on my phone so bad, but something keeps telling me to wait. I even dl'd the ninja rom over the weekend and have the zip sitting there looking at me... tempting me...
Anyway, I have the car dock. When you can use it it's awesome. The only issue I had was on a long trip the battery was only at 70% when I arrived. I think the software lets it charge until it's full, then just stops charging at all. Not sure though, and the phone was VERY hot when I arrived too. The body glove case only kind of fits, the top won't clip down with it on. I bought the moto rugged battery cover from cnn, and it fits fine with the insert removed, but I hate the case. Barely any protection on the screen at all. The sides pull back very easily. Like if you are talking on the phone and have your finger on the lower corner, it just pulls off and you have to put your finger on the menu button to hold the phone. It sucks and I went back to the body glove. I don't use the car dock every day, so when I do I just take the case off.

Cardock app not launching
I got the car dock from AT&T. When I put the phone in, it charges fine but the car dock application does not launch. I've tried few different chargers and all possible variations of connecting things in with the same result.
If I manually launch the car dock application, the screen goes back to sleep after some time.
Do I have a defective piece?

The screen will go to sleep and lock if you don't have a power source connected. I have not tested on gingerbread and there may be new issues.

[Q] Anyone get the car mount?

Did any of you guys who already received your phone pick up the car dock? It looks pretty nice and I love using a dock for nav and using w/bt kit on longer drives. AT&T carries the official Moto Atrix car dock and I was hoping for a review if anyone has used it.

Well from all of the videos that I have seen of it. It truly looks like a worth while side purchase. It charges your phone and auto launches the map. Thats enough for me to be sold.
I picked the car dock up when I got my phone this morning. It's really nice. As soon as it docks it comes up with a custom driver's view. You can add apps and contacts which is sweet. Nav works great and the voice control worked really well. I tapped it and told it to send a text with the content and it was flawless. I only had to press a large send button. I'm gonna like it.
Oh, I'm sure everyone probably knows but it does have power and will charge your phone while docked.
well those geniuses at AT&T said this doesn't exist when i picked up my phone this morning. I guess i'll be trying another store until i can get ahold of one. They only had the laptop and webtop docks there.
Didn't pay attn to it when asked if I wanted it at check out. Should have checked it out. But if no bootloAder in 30 days. This is going back anyway

I really like this car mount. It has integrated audio out that works perfectly with my Aux connection. I just wish I could adjust the volume before the sound hits my car audio system. I've already turned up the media volume on the phone itself, but I still need to crank up the volume on the car audio and it causes hissing sounds when I accelerate.
I wanted to get it but it doesn't get held in very well with the feather case so I passes

Did you try it with the insert that comes with it? The phone without a case is held in very firmly so a feather case should make it a tighter fit. Without the insert you can use a regular case.
i ordered one with the laptop dock and phone, but AT&T still hasnt shipped the car dock.

yeah i tried without the insert. on the feather case, the usb plugs in on the bottom, but the top clip part doesnt extend far enough out to grip the edge anymore.
with the speck case which i also tried, it was too thick to even allow the USB to fit.
I bought the dock in-store today, and I must say it is very nice. There is an insert to use or not use depending on if you have a case on your phone, which is a great idea. The phone fits easily, and the car app loads extremely quick. It is wonderful you can move around the quick load apps, and the extra cables that plugin to your stereo if needed was a nice bonus. I already added shortcuts for Google nav, and will add other useful car apps as well. It is a worthy purchase if you like having a GPS with you or a dock while you play music in your car.
Can someone help me verify that the cam corder can be activated while in car dock and that the dock does not block the view?
Would love to be able to use the phone as a car camcorder on tracks or canyons Hack, we might be able to do something like the contour gps
contour.com/camera/contour_gps
I don't have to do anything special to get the car app to pop up right? Because when I plug mine in, it does nothing. The audio doesn't even go through the cable.
I have the car dock as well, works flawlessly with the body glove case.

Bought the car dock so I would force myself to stop from texting and driving. But my scion XB dash is to far to even use it safely.
How about with an OtterBox
I like to use an OtterBox on my devices.
Is there any chance the Car Dock will work with an OtterBox?
If not, are these any cases that will work with the car dock?
Same question for the MultiMedia dock, but I will ask in another thread too.

You have to apply power to the USB port for it to start. Once you apply power, you can remove it and the phone will stay in dock mode till you pull it out.
EDIT: Which is awesome cause motorola didn't give you a DC/USB converter. I had one already that I used.
lol no. otterbox is way to big to use with any dock. the only case i know that works with the car dock is the body glove. the feather might work too but its too thin to be considered a case(might as well get an invisashield.

Official Vehicle Dock Kit

Hi all.
Just took delivery of my dock kit, and it's very nice. Well built, but whether its worth £35 quid is another story.
Anyway, that aside...
When the default "Driving Menu" is enabled, is there a way to change it, especially to use CoPilot instead of Google navigation?
I have had a quick search in this section to see if anyone else asked the same question.
Im in the same boat. It would be nice if someone could do a workaround. Nice bit of kit for the price.

How do you get audio to come out of the rear connector. I plugged my 3.5mm cable into the socket and the sound still comes out the speaker!

Yep! I should have read the booklet, it did tell me in there ;-)
RTFM!
I struggle to take the phone out cleanly using on hand - always hit the power button. Dock mode seems pretty poor to me, seems to get all voice activated with road noise - is the google one any better? (we have a samsung 'special', I think?)
Another thing I've noticed is the terrible engine whine from the loudspeakers when its charging.
Now I tried headphone out socket too, and the same problem occurs.
To me it's a lovely piece of kit, but if you have it connect via Aux then u need to listen to the whinning noise from the charging.
Anyone conquered the noise suppression from an in car charger? It's doing my head in!

have you checked it's not your car? Will try and remember to test if mine does this...
i also have the whining problem when charging. after some investigation, it appears to be caused by poor connections. in my case i suspect the head unit, as i didn't connect the rod at the back to the car frame with the bolt and nut.
you can get a ground loop isolator for about £15, but they just mask the problem - should really get it fixed if there is an electrical problem
Interesting. I have a 2008 Ford Mondeo from new. I'd hope that is electrically correct, but who knows.
I am awaiting delivery of a new car (Audi A3), so I will see if this has the same issue.
It's a real shame because the AUX out on the device increases the volume limit sent to the head unit and it makes a massive difference all round, this limit set by the poxy EU rules on the headphone out socket of the phone is really low (83% of max volume) and when you compare the two on the device its obvious the car kit is better.
BTW it makes the whining noise out of the headphone socket too, when plugged into cradle.
from what i've read, the noise when charging is usually from the alternator. do you notice the whine change when you speed up. if so, i'd get it checked out.
There is a method of basically powering the head unit direct from the battery, bypassing all the other connections and wires the juice has to go through to get to the head unit. probably what i will do if mine doesn't work after i've installed it properly.
I plugged mine into the radio today. From the headphone socket, no problem apart from a lack of volume (even on max gain, it is only just loud enough against the road noise). No background noise though.
Plugged into the connector on hte back of the dock is a completely different story. A ~10khz whine, which is present even with the 12V lead disconnected, and worse when it is connected. Sounds like breakthrough from a switch-mode power supply to me. Makes the audio-out on the dock not fit for purpose. Time to add my review on a fre sites selling them...
The other complaint I have is that it doesn't grip well enough to the windscreen.

I agree, although I get noise from the headphone socket when in the cradle and charging.
I have raised a returns to send my unit back for a refund. It's a waste of time having it if you cant listen to music on it! Imagine listening to the SatNav with all that silence and "whine" on the speakers, it would drive you bonkers.
It's a real shame as the overall quality is pretty good, but it is not fit for purpose in my opinion.
Will update this thread if I get any more news.

This review is from: Samsung Vehicle Dock Kit for Galaxy S II (Electronics)
For the price, this does not do well enough. Yes it fits well, and holds the phone, with an integrated dock connector. However:
It is a push-fit corner grabbing design, and I find it almost impossible to release the phone with one hand.
The windscreen suction mount is feeble, so maybe 20% of the time rather than removing the phone, I end up with the whole thing coming un-stuck.
Dock mode on this phone is almost useless, so plan on replacing it if you think it is a good feature.
The audio-out functions, but there is a very poor electrical design - even if the charger is not plugged in, the signal picks up a constant high pitched whine (even with the car engine off)
Buy a cheaper one, and you'll feel less hard done by.

If you don't want to run a car Samsung's menu
If you don't want to run a car Samsung's menu install aps from the store :
Dock No-Op .
If you want to restore the default you have to uninstall the application.
Samsung Cars Menu and that sucks and this increased volume of system sounds, it's up scares. I think everybody can hear it in the around car
And what this menu is, and so one can make your own card to use in the car.
Personally, I mounted the Launcher 7 menu that conforms to the Windows Mobile 7 and has the icon in the system ankles. Cubes as they rotate with the vertical grip twist at the best level for navigation. This arrangement works well in the car, because after docking nothing changes and I can continue listening to your music on the equipment in the car, not a hundred times to click to activate the music listened to on headphones before
Sorry for bad english, but google translator
I was a bit apprehensive about buying this dock as I'd read a lot of reviews complaining about engine noise and sub-par audio quality when outputting sound through the line-out but since receiving it I've been really pleased with it. There is no engine noise or unwanted sounds so I guess this varies from car to car and depends on how your stereo is wired up. I've also run a few low frequency speaker test mp3s through the line-out and headphone-out it as I'd read reports of the line-out cutting off some of the low frequencies but to my ear I hear no different and I get a good response from my sub with both. My only gripe is that the call audio is not routed through the line out. Although I knew this was the case prior to buying, I just can't understand why Samsung would have left this feature out. I've read that this was the case with other Samsung phone's official docks previously and in most of the cases I've read about a solution has been found either through a OS/kernel tweak or an app which sorts the problem out. I'm just hopeful that a helpful dev is able to have a look at this and see if a solution can be found for the SGS2. Otherwise it's a great dock
I have to say I am disappointed with this dock. Coming from a Moto Atrix dock, this is poorly designed. Love my phone, hate the dock.
At first glance it seems extremely well made but after using for a while it is fustrating.
One, they use to many materials compared to the Atrix dock. This thing is huge.
Two, its hard to get out of the dock. The atrix dock had a nice flip up latch that secured the phone.
Three, you have to run two cables from the dock for changing and audio. The atrix dock had one cable coming from the dock with an audio out dongle near the end of the cable.
Last, the freaking background noise is terrible. Dont even try to listen to audio at a low volume.
I like the flip up charger adapter. Also it works with the official extended battery. But thats about it.

Love the official car dock, need help extending mount length

So I have the official car dock:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ECS-K1D9BEGSTA
And love the functionality of not having to plug in power or audio out all the time.
My only issue is that I want to be able to extend the arm length as it doesn't fit any where great in my car.
Has anyone seen a vent mount or extending arm accessory that is compatible with the official holster?
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. I'm sure I could get creative with a solution but didn't want to reinvent the wheel if there is something out there already.
Nice! Is that mount horizontal only, or can it rotate to hold the phone upright too?

It can fully rotate 360 degrees and pivot in any direction. The holster is attached to the arm via a ball and socket connection so you have virtually unlimited options of angle etc... and then you just turn a knob to 'lock in' the position you like. I definitely worship the dock, just need a longer arm : (
OK one other question....if you have a case on your phone, do you have to take it off to use the dock? It looks like you would.
I searched around to try and find a longer arm, and no luck

Thanks for trying to help.
You definitely can't use a case.
The fit is meant to be 'perfect' so it's easy to lock in your phone with the microusb plug so power and audio work.
I love it!!! but no case would work.
Unless you can find a way to mount the flat circle to a longer arm and suction to that there isn't a viable arm extension. I have looked also. My maxima gives a long reach to the dock to where I like the mount to sit.
I bought the infuse dock but instead of using the arm that came with it I bought a proclip center console mount for my car. Looks nice and works great although it was expensive. Attached the infuse dock to proclip car mount and a proclip swivel mount.
I have the Infuse mount which I'm guessing has the same design as yours. Anyway, I found that the vent clip mount that I've been using for my Galaxy Tab mates perfectly to the Infuse mount. I can't be positive but this looks like the same vent mechanism.
Looks like I'm not allowed to post links so search for "Black Car Air Vent Holder With Clip For Nokia " on ebay and you should find it for $3.34.

so, i have a meta question about this dock. it looks pretty cool, and it *might* work to put it vertically in the space in the center console of my '98 honda accord, hopefully putting it right at my fingertips. that part's a crap shoot however. what i don't understand though is the audio out jack. how the heck does that work?? the audio jack on the phone is at the top, but the audio jack on the dock is on the bottom next to the usb plug. i just don't get how they route the audio out there. this might be a stupid question.

The phone only needs to be plugged into the microusb port on the dock for both power and audio to be piped through. The actual headset jack on the phone is not used. So phone goes into dock (just microusb port) then the audio out on the dock will work.

the dock that's specifically for the E4G includes a cig lighter power adapter, but the infuse version does not. i have power going to the infuse from cig lighter, then a standard audio cable going from the back of the dock to my car radio. works well. the volume level adjustment has to be done in software. i'm currently evaluating CarHome Ultra, which has configurations so that when you put the phone in the dock, it sets media volume to whatever you desire, then when you remove the phone from the dock, it reverts back to what it was.
---------- Post added at 11:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:00 AM ----------
one thing that kind of baffles me with the dock - when my phones in the dock, if i try to speak commands to it, it seems it can't hear me. the phone's microphone is covered by the adapter block you slide in to lock the phone and make usb connection. i have the infuse dock, but it looks identical to the E4G-specific dock.
does anyone else have trouble speaking commands when docked? it's frustrating, it makes it much less of a hands-free experience than what i was hoping for!

I ended up modding mine to fit the ProClip car mount I already had. Pics are in the original deal thread if you are interested.

Seems like most people use some form of case (thicker than the zagg)
Does anyone know of a dock like this samsung dock but able to fit a phone with a case? Alternatives (docks that work with a case) dont seem to connect automatically to the micro usb. Just wondering if anyone knows of something that will do both? Shouldn't this exist? am I way off?

Samsung SGH-T989 Vehicle Mount

Anyone bought and have any reviews for this guy ?
Samsung ECS-K1F4BEGSTA T-Mobile SGH-T989 Vehicle Mount - Car Kit - Retail Packaging - Black
Listed for $33ish bucks on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-ECS-K1F4BEGSTA-T-Mobile-SGH-T989-Vehicle/dp/B005LGUCRE
Looks like a good buy just wana know if anyone had bought this and liked it?
Looks like the one I bought from Best Buy. I like it, the only thing that I would warn about is that the phone can be a little difficult to take out. It doesn't want to just snap out like it should.
I have one. It holds the phone very well, but only without a case; absolutely no worries about the phone coming loose, and the phone doesn't bounce or vibrate, so the image is always quite readable. The only possible downside is that you might find the arm a bit short if you're driving a vehicle where the windshield is far forward, but then there's the adhesive disc, although I wouldn't want to go sticking some disk permanently to the dash of *my* car.
Leaving the charger and audio cables connected to the dock is very handy.
The phone recognizes that it's in a dock right away. There are a number of car dock launchers available (I like CarHome Ultra) as well as a car-specific voice mode.
The auto-plug charger that comes with the dock seems OK, but if you're using Navigator plus Pandora, your run-down battery won't get charged. I have yet to experiment with other high-amperage car chargers; seems like all the ones I have don't have USB conductors 2 and 3 shorted together, so they're pretty useless for this until I crack 'em open and solder.
I keep mine in a Toyota MR2 MK2 (little car) mounted at the bottom left of the windshield, and it's basically perfect there.
Oh -
Have it on my crv I can't live without it. Its easy to put in. Audio and charges are usable with one push. If you go caseless and are going to keep the phone for a while the price Is definetly worth it. Third party ones make you manually plug in charger and headphone Jack this makes it way more convienent.

It's pretty unfortunate that it doesn't work with any case though...too bad they didn't make a case combo that would fit that mount specifically.
for the price you can get other mounts that are so much better, look at Micro Center
For what it's worth, I have the Samsung OEM car dock as well and I absolutely love it. One thing I've found, though, is that the phone will occasionally go nuts thinking that I've pushed the button for voice recognition. It'll endless loop repeating "What would you like to do?" until I close out of the car launcher.
Not sure if this happens on the stock OS, I have Synergy+Bombardier loaded on it (rooted.)
I bought it. It's amazing, the dock mode syncs directly with my car stereo Bluetooth.
the only down side is you can not have a case on with it..

does it fit the phone with the Tmo D3O case on?
I'm definitely in the friction mount camp for car mounts. This one works great for me:

Bonus: works for your future phones and works with cases

Are you guys able to get call audio through the car speakers with your docks?
If so, please post how. I cannot seem to get call audio to route through the car speakers. Media plays fine, but no call audio. Almost a deal breaker for me. Thats what I bought it for. ;-)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try "car mode" in the market...
How to disable car mode for T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2 / SII T989 Hercules car dock
This is mostly useful if you use Bluetooth audio for your car stereo. This method renders your car dock's USB audio-out jack useless, and you would have to use the phone's headphone jack for an audio cable (untested, since I use Bluetooth audio). The only thing I want a dock to do is hold my phone and charge it. I automate the rest myself. Proceed at your own risk...
Car Mode Ultra is great for overriding your stock car mode, but I wanted to disable it entirely. I didn't like adding another layer of car modes and letting them wrestle for control.
Anyway, since I couldn't find a way to 100% disable the stock car mode software, I did it in the hardware (in the car dock itself).
On the back of the sliding part of the dock, take off the two small stickers and remove the screws under them. Carefully pry the slide apart at the seam to reveal the circuit board inside. Remove the tiny resistor between pads D- and ID. No more car mode!
Apparently, no more charging, either. Or at least not enough current to keep up. Maybe the car mode resistor tells the phone to charge at a higher rate, I'm not sure. Either way, the next step gets the charging to work again, but first, there's a warning:
If you don't want to burn your car down, make sure you have at least a 1 amp (1000ma) rated charger for this next part, otherwise, don't do it. This step increases you charge rate from 500ma to about 800ma (some people with custom ROMs go even higher). If you do this, and your charger isn't powerful enough, it could fry your charger. I have no idea what your charger will do if it fries. Maybe nothing, maybe light your car on fire. If you're not sure about it, don't do it.
On the side of the printed circuit board opposite the audio jack, there are two pads labeled A/R and AL/D. Shorting them to each other will put your phone into "AC charge mode", which means higher charge rate, no USB data, and no USB audio out. Now reassemble the dock.
With Car Mode Ultra and NFC task launcher installed, you can do all kinds of cool stuff. I set Car Mode Ultra to activate upon connecting to the stereo's Bluetooth. This starts the program without activating stock car mode. I stuck an NFC tag on the back of my dock for even more automation. Bluetooth turns on Car Mode Ultra, which unlocks the screen, which enables NFC, which reads the tag, which toggles more settings, starts Pandora, etc. Pretty cool. Full automation.

No audio output from Infuse 4G car dock

So I just got my Verizon SG3 and I have the Infuse 4G car dock which everyone says is working wonderfully (It fits perfectly!). I have two problems however, and was wondering if anyone could help me troubleshoot.
1. The stereo output does not work. I have the phone on the dock in my car and when I plug an audio cable in the output on the dock it does not work, when I plug the cable into the stereo jack on the phone it does work.
2. Only a car outlet adpter to USB jack will work to charge it. If I plug in my dedicated car charger (not coming from a USB port), it will not charge the phone.
Any help with these two small issues would be awesome, thanks so much!

You have to go into settings-»dock to change the audio output.
Also, it is a very tight fit. Make sure it is all the way plugged in to the dock. I would recommend using the headphone jack on the phone however. I find the dock audio output to be somewhat noisy when using the audio out on the dock. Ymmv.

What do you mean noisy? Like cause the power input is right there? Is there a buzzing?
Yes, buzzing. I had the samsung droid charge dock and it was the same way with that phone. Maybe its a samsung thing.
Changing the audio out option in dock settings should have fixed your issue with the sound. No clue why your dedicated charger isn't working other than maybe not enough amps......just a guess there.
As for the noise/buzzing issue.......could be a grounding issue with your car or the cables aren't pushed in all the way. I used this dock for a good week and it sounded perfectly fine. The only thing I changed was the EQ settings in whatever app I was using. I'm using poweramp now with the EQ turned off and it sounds great.....no noise or buzzing. My JVC deck does all the EQ fine tuning it needs.
I ended up disassembling the Infuse dock and pulling the PC board out. This has allowed me to keep my case on my phone. I am using the exomount holder and just ran a microUSB extension from the PC board to the phone. So far, everything works great. In fact, just ordered all the same parts again last night to do the same setup for my Dad.

Here you go.
I do need to add that today I did notice some background noise at the end of a sound when it was fading out.....that was the first time I ever noticed anything. During regular listening, I don't hear anything. This may be solved by adding a ground loop isolator.
Anyway, here are the pics. The first couple are of the pc board from the infuse dock. The others are of the mount and cabling. The last is what the Google Car Home screen looks like.I moved things around and put the camera, messaging, and poweramp apps on the home screen.
Let me know if you have any questions.
the_buzz_man
By the way, the case I have on there right now is the Diztronic Matte Black TPU case. Waiting on the Otterbox Defender.
The wires you see on the second to last pic are tucked under the dash....I pulled them out to show how they were connected. The PC board from the Infuse dock is wrapped in electrical tape to keep it from coming in contact with anything.
That exogear mount was put in place a week ago and it shows no sign of coming loose so far.....really am impressed with it.
the_buzz_man
Thank you, this is nice because the case can stay on the GS3 all the time.

Is your phone rooted, because I can't install the Google Car Home. I miss that app since I had the G2 before the GS3.
This might be a dumb question and i don't know if someone else knows the answer. Can I root my phone and still keep the stock ROM (The one it ships with)???

I am not rooted. Though the play store shows it is not compatible and won't let me install it, I was able to do a Google search and find a copy of it. It doesn't show up under apps after it is installed. But, once you plug in the dock, it will give you the option to use it.
I don't know if it is proper to put links to files such as this (even though the app is free), but do a Google search for "download google car home apk" and the second choice (droid-life) is where I got it (alt-link).

Got it, Thanks!
Is there a benefit to having it plugged in and being in dock mode as opposed to using card dock ultra(ithink that is the name) ap to just make it go into dock mode? I got the infuse dock, but didn't realize I couldn't use a case with it. I'm new to all this stuff.
Is there a special cable I have to buy to do what you did?
My husband seems leery about doing any of this stuff, but our navigation head unit just went out in our car, and I want to use google nav in the car safely.

I replied in the other forum. As for the cable.....if you do what I did and want the phone to switch into car mode, then you would need a microUSB extension cable that uses all five wires.
I wasn't sure if you are wanting to output audio to a deck or if you just want to be able to charge and have the audio come from the phone.

I was wanting the audio to come out of my car speakers.. using the aux option in my car. Hope that makes sense.
The app I have is car home ultra. Right now I'm having to plug 2 cables in so I get why you did what you did. One cable would be alot easier. I definitely need to get rid of the infuse dock or do what you did and use a different dock though because I hate pulling the case off. I'm just trying to decide if I should send the dock back altogether or do what you did. My husband said he'll do it if I know exactly which cable to get.
Thank you for your reply.

I've posted this link before, but wasn't sure if you have seen it...
http://www.usbfirewire.com/uextendmicrob.html
This is where I got the cable from. It uses all five wires which is what is needed to trip car mode. They have many choices. I am using the right angled one. I have used both the 24in and the 6ft one, both have worked fine.
I just got my Otterbox Defender yesterday and it fits fine in my mount. I must say that this exomount has thoroughly impressed me with how well it holds.
