Otterbox is about 30 bucks while TPU Fusion is 3-4 bucks.
Unless you drop your phone a lot and from really high ground then definitely go for the TPU.
TPU is lighter, and doesn't make the phone bulky.

They both have the same coverage on the phone, the Otterbox does make the phone a little more bulkier than the TPU, but the Otterbox is more shock absorbent than the TPU. I have both and switch between the two cases.

OTTERBOX
Just from past eperience otterbox is the way to go

I'm not sure about the TPU but I just purchased my first otterbox for my Mytouch 4g and overall i'm very impressed with the product, doesn't have too much bulk. The rubberized buttons function very well also.

Do you have young children? Are you rough on phones?
I have a young child and sometimes I'm a bit rougher on my electronics than I should be, so I got the Otterbox.

I like the TPU Fusion more. The design looks cool on my phone

I prefer the TPU Fusion, just because I don't feel a $30 case is worth it (I take very delicate care of my phone, but have dropped it once when it slipped out of my pocket).

I forgot to mention, I got caught in a torrential downpour, and after getting to my destination, I dried it off, and checked the white dots--still white (unlike a lot of iPhones would be, I've heard).
The headphone plug gets pulled out too easily, though. I trimmed off the bump (on the silicon) which helps.
I got the T-Mobile belt slip case for one of the larger phones and with the Otterbox on it fits perfectly FTW.
By the way, although not as inexpensive as a TPU case, I see it under $20 from lots of places. I figured $20 was worth it, a better deal than the 'insurance', that they raised the price on (I dropped it). Still, I figure people comfortable going bare would probably be fine with less of a case. If there were decent docks available, well, I'd have to think about it.... How easily do the TPU cases go on and off? Since the Otterbox is in 2 pieces, it takes a little more work.

Ive had my TPU for about 6 months and its great. it slides on and off pretty easy, but yet fits the phone like a glove when its on. I baby my phones, so I rarely drop them and didnt like the bulkiness of the otterbox

I have an otterbox commuter case and love it. I don't get how it adds go much bulk or weight. I mean we are talking ounces here people. Thatand if something did happen with the otterbox on then it is covered....supposed anyway.
1st post here, liking the forum thus far.

Otterbox all the way. And if your otterbox gets worn-out/broken - just shoot an email to them, and they will send you a new one, no questions asked!

It does make the phone a little bulky but its worth it. I cannot tell you how many times i dropped my case. For example, one time I was riding my friends motorcycle doing about 30mph on asphalt, and for some reason the phone slipped out of my pockets; judging by what I saw in the side mirrors my phone was destroyed. When I picked up the phone there was just a small nick on the shell of the case. I say otter box all the way

Just got my otterbox and love it it is the best case for our phone
It is not bulky at all and has 2 layers
Trust me if you tend to drop your phone a lot its worth the money

Best case for evo

Trying to decide on a case for an evo. Hopefully getting an evo with my upgrade January first and just trying to do my due diligence. Have an otterbox commuter for my hero and love it.
What case do you have?
Pros and cons?
Screen protector necessary? Never had one on my hero but I know the evo's screen is much bigger.
Thanks in advance for your replies!
Aosp froyo, It's the poop!
Seidio rugged
I have the seidio rugged case for my evo. Its only about 40 bucks off ebay. I like it better then both the otterbox and ther ballistic. It looks better...has more protection and if for any reason you ever have to take it off its alot easier to remove then the other cases.

I have 2 Seidio Rugged cases and they both fell apart with mild use. The tabs on the end snapped off and the covers are peeling. The thin rubber also tore off with time.
I have 2 Trident Cyclops cases now, they feel like they are built much better. It seems slightly sleeker but I think it offers at least as much protection.
For heavy duty use, go Ballistic.

i agree with this.
go with trident or ballistic.
personally i love my trident cyclops.
With the Trident do you not have the rainbow issue on screen from screen protector?
Also heard that pictures from the camera have a blue tint with the Cyclops on.
Aosp froyo, It's the poop!
the ballistic has more protection than any case out right now. the design of the ballistic is delightful. it is EXTREME protection. it has a built in screen protector and an additional screen protector thats optional. you can drop the phone from the ceiling to your floor and it will save the phone.. i have a mint grey ballistic case im selling for $30 bux shipped in the classifieds. smoke it over and look at the photos to check it out.
without the silicon jacket the ballistic case is close in size to the otterbox defender. you can use the included holster with or without the silicon jacket if you dont need the full protection. all ports are covered with the silicon jacket on (rubber flaps over the jack and bottom ports) the camera, LED lamps and speaker on back are all protected. the
IMO the Ballistic case is a much superior product. second to that would be the otterbox....
Thats weird. I work construction and trust me ive pushed this case to the limit and its held up everytime. Ive had it since june and it still fits just as snug as day1. As far as the ballistic my co-worker had a ballistic on his htc incredible and his cracked while in his pocket simply by stepping up a latter. The preesure of his jeans pushing down was enough to crack it. I dropped my seidio down a elevator shaft and simply scuffed my belt holdster

yeah, sometimes i get a rainbow effect in certain areas, even with the premium protector. i don't really notice it when the screen is on though.
the blue tint is from the piece of plastic they put inside to cover the camera and led's. i just popped it out.
I think it really depends on what you're going to be doing with your phone, where you're going to be most of the time, and how likely you are to drop it.
To say that any one case is the "best" case for the evo (and any phone/thing you put a case on lol) would be wrong, imo.
Say you're looking for looks -- you'd go for something like a barely there from casemate
Say you're looking for full on rugged protection -- you'd go for something like the ballistic
For reference, I've heard not great things about build quality of the Defender from Otterbox, and Seidio cases. *anecdotal, so take it as you will*
As I said in another thread, I have the Impact series case from Otterbox.
Fits my needs, so it's the "best" case for me.

Unless I'm missing something, they don't make any Ballistic cases for the Incredible...
Ballistic does not make cases for the Incredible. The only HTC phone they have a case available for is the HTC EVO. www.goballisticcase.com
I'm currently using an Otterbox Defender for mine and its holding well. I'm interested in a Ballistic HC because since they introduced it the case looks like a step up from the Defender. I've seen videos and read the personal reviews of people who have had both and the HC is "better" according to most. It all depends on where your phone will be and what you'll be doing with it. I don't really care much about the size. I want a case that is going to protect my $500 investment.
If you want the best protection for your EVO I'd say Ballistic HC or Otterbox Defender. Each is $50 or you can check out the Trident Cyclops which is only $34.95.
if you dont mind the size, the Ballistic blows away the otterbox and the Trident for protection.....
I prefer the Fishbone case...I paid $12 bucks for it and so far it is great for me.

I had the tough case for my Samsung Vibrant and I loved it.
I like the platinum gun metal case I got when I got the phone.
It's lightweight and thin. There is felt on the back inside so it doesn't scuff up your phone. The corners of the front also help to keep my invisible shield in place in case it decided to wander around in the heat.
best case for me
I got a Seidio Innocase for X-mas to replace the one I got with the phone. That, plus an Invisishield is all the protection I need and it suits me. I wanted to try the Impact Series Otterbox, so I ordered one. They sent me a Defender Series and when I called them up they just sent me the right one, no questions asked. I have them both still, but don't use them. The Defender is, well, I just don't drive a tank or work in a war zone, so I don't really need it (and yes, the kick stand on that case is an absolute joke...). The Impact Series Otterbox just sticks in my pocket too much and I can't get it out as easily, but it looks adequate I suppose. The Innocase is great for me, doesn't stick in my pocket, has felt on the back so it doesn't scratch or scuff my device and isn't too bulky. That's why Santa got me another one.
P.S. I think the snap in the back slide-in broke b/c I was pulling it apart quite often to do battery pulls (cause not all ROMs are stable...) and didn't just leave it out of the case like I should have... Only time I've taken the new one off was tonight to put my new Seidio extended 1750 mAh Innocell battery Santa brought in before bedtime to charge over night (ok, maybe one other time...)
Not Swyped from anywhere cause my battery is being conditioned (duh!)
I have the Innocase active in blue.It came down to what I really wanted the case to do for me or rather my phone as well.
I wanted protection first and for most, then comfort in my hand and then looks.
It is a little bulky but that bulk is my protection from waste high drops. My 3 year old nephew has tested it out for me by throwing it on the hard wood floor standing on the kitchen chair...lol
It feels really good to the touch and unless your hands are on the smaller side, you will enjoy the fit.I wear a large glove so it fits me good.
It looks great. The fit and finish are very good.It will take getting use to.A little harder push to operate the power button but a fingernail tip makes it easier.
Now for the wearing it issue...It,while in the case on your side will be odd at first.I am a bigger guy,5`11 228 but my waste is 36.I notice it a lot more than say a smaller framed 150 pounder would but,it does stay put on my belt.I just rotate the top of the phone 90 degrees facing the front of my body and it rides that way with no issues at all.
Worth the money in my opinion.

If you go with Otterbox, stay away from the Defender. It is nowhere near the quality you would expect for that price, and doesn't come close to the quality of the Defender for iPhone. Lots of people have had bad experiences with Seidio as well, their cases tend to fall apart after only a short while and their warranty process is ridiculous. The TPU cases are cheap pieces of junk too. Trust me, they don't look nearly as nice in person as they do in pictures. If you want something rugged I would recommend the Trident Cyclops or the Ballistic HC. For something middle of the road go with the Otterbox Commuter, and for the thinest case possible go with the Casemate Barely There.
Thanks for the info

Or you can get a TPU case off of ebay. Its less than 5 bucks and I like it alot. Its nothing fancy at all, but its a hybrid of the hard plastic snap cases and the silicone cases. It provides some front screen and rear camera protection too. sot he rear camera doesnt hit the table etc when set down. It also wraps around the corners nicely and "Snaps" if you will, around the edges.
I picked up one of these for under $5 and it fits like a glove! It's a thin silicone case and then a hard outer shell, but doesn't add much bulk to my evo. They have other colors as well and it's a US seller to boot so no waiting for a month for your new case to arrive from HK. Remove the @ and replace with a .
[email protected]@com/accessorytech/m.html
I just got the seidio innocase active on ebay for like 25 bucks. I've never like how bulky the otterbox cases are and this case has a really nice feel to it almost like its part of the phone.
TPU for the win. I got a smoked clear one like a month ago and love it. My 2 yr old nephew threw my phone against the wall on NYE. I was kinda freaked for a second and I picked it up and everything was ship shape. Also dropped it once on the carpet in my office and zero problems whatsoever. Totally happy and impressed for $5 dollars.
Tpu!!! Thin and fashionable with a great hint of protection. Luxmo makes great ones with screen protectors! Trust me, I own 8 different cases.

I'm a big fan of the Ballistic case.Outstanding protection. I like the bulky feel of it.
This has been a telepathic transmission from the Outer Limits.
I'd recommend do some research find which case you like best then Craigslist Brotha. I agree I wouldn't pay 50 bucks for my otterbox deffender series. But I got it for 25 bucks new in box off some guy on Craigslist ill take that deal all day so give it a try is all I'm saying.

Best buy has these Platinum cases which fit nicely over the evo and even on top of a screen protector. Dust accumulates but it's not too bad. Just clean it once a week.
If you end up using a Seido Innocase (not the rugged or active) like I do then you'll have to shop well for an enclosed holster if you need one of those too because the fit becomes different. Amazon is full of reviews of all the Otterboxes, Seido, etc-good and bad. They often come with a belt clip holster that doesn't enclose the phone entirely (for me, the camera lens is exposed)...I like them and use them, but I also require an enclosed holster for added protection in some environments. The Innocase is a two piece case which I like...but it doesn't get torqued around in my pocket like it does for some folks (some folks claim the case becomes loose and starts to squeak--and also claim debris gets in and rubs the finish of the edges of their Evo). Mine has held up well, but I treat it with kid gloves and the phone never goes in my pocket.
i just got the Rearth Ringke case and i like it. granted, i haven't tried any other case, but it's much nicer than the crappy case my wife has on her evo from best buy. it's a nice tight fit and the buttons are very easy to push. it's thin and light and adds little to no extra bulk. my wife was jealous and wants one now too!

Case-Mate Tough is the #1 EVO case

I have finally found my love . The Case-Mate Tough case is hands down my favorite so far. The cases I have tried already, are;
- Body Glove case I bought the same time I picked up the EVO in the Summer, it looked so bad ass Sci/Fi cool in the box, but we all know this case blows, it cracks way too easy, and the plastic feel is not comfortable against face and too slippery, this case sucks.
- Otterbox - Commuter, I thought the quality was pretty good, but it was a very bulky and heavy case, and the back plastic not a good feel for holding the phone, too slick. The kickstand access is too tight, and phone wobbles when using it. Overall not impressed with the Commuter.
- Otterbox - Impact, my Brother has this case, and it feels great in the hand, and looks pretty good too, but can get a little lose around the sides of the phone, and is bulky. But I like this case #2, it feels good, and looks good, just a tad too thick.
- Case-Mate Tough, this is it baby This is easily, the best case of the ones I have tried. I was surprised at the slimness of this case for it being it a 2pc protection case, it is thinner than the Commuter + Impact, and my God the feel of the case is just perfect, I couldn't let go of the phone last night, it just feels so good in the hand, not slippery at all, but not too sticky either, just right. And it looks very professional, and just perfect. And great kickstand access. This case will really protect your phone well, but also look great, feel great, and is not crazy bulky/thick like other protection cases. Highly recommended.

Reviews, photos, even a video. I've had this case for a couple of months, and it is as good as the OP stated. I also had the Seidio "Active" case, which began to come apart in just a few weeks, and tried the Otterbox "Impact", which is a lint magnet. The Tough Case is a keeper.

Thanks for the link, I forgot to post those official pictures.
The best thing about this case, is the feel. It just fits in the hand so nicely, and just feels great.
Yeah it is one of those "thicker" cases, but with the protection it delivers, it is one of the thinnest of the thick cases, if that makes sense. Meaning the Otterbox and other dual layer heavy duty cases, this is the slimmest in that category.
Now if you want, super model, waif thin, Case-Mate also makes a really pretty case, the "Barely There Case", I plan to buy this too, and just use on the weekends, or when going out to dinner or black tie event

My first Active case had the outer layer peeling so I RMA'd it and they sent me a replacement one which was much much better than the original one I had, even the silicone part was better. Less prone to picking up dust. Though for the price I probably would've just gotten the Tough case especially since it's only 20 bones on newegg... but I don't believe it was out when I ordered the Seidio one... =T
Having this Tough case most of the week now I am in love Mainly due to the feel in hand, this case has the best materials for holding the phone comfortably, it just sits in your hand perfectly with not being too slippery nor too rubber sticky, it is just right. I can't put the phone down it is too sexy with this case.

I had the Otterbox Commuter for a week, was not happy with it, it felt too plasticy, and slick, and was very thick/bulging case. I went into to Sprint store to check on some stuff, and the guy there had the Case Mate Tough on his EVO, I was like, wow that is cool looking, and looked to be a bit thinner than my Otterbox.
Bought it on the spot, and wow instant love, the feel of the case it what gets me, it just feels soooooo nice in your hand, and the back has a cool design, and the best kickstand cutout of any case I have seen. The Otterbox will never be back on my phone.

I agree, it does, but it feels so nice in the hand, and offer great protection. I wish the case was thinner, but that would be impossible with the nice cushion it has.

Has anyone else tried this awesome case out yet ?
Well I had the sedio active (now named the active X)
I ordered the new sedio active x (hybrid) from here on reffered to as "the x" and the case mate from here on reffered to as the "CM"
Ill tell you this they are damn near identical. They both have a rubbery type feel to the plastic piece that wraps around the silicon case. There is no actual plastic that touches your phone its silicon with a plastic over wrap. The cm has more texure to its plastic outer shell than the X
They fit the phone about the same the volume and power I think are easier to hit on the x vs the cm
the pricing is about the same but the cm comes with a static type screen protector, cloth and application card. The x comes with nothing.
The x comes in a myriad of colors and holsters are availaible. the cm comes in two colors and there does not appear to be any type of holster availaible, however the cases are so close Id bet to say the sedio one would fit
cm offers a 90 day warranty (3 month)
x offers a 180 day warranty (6 month)
sedio generally has pretty good customer service (except in my case)
case-mate had been in business a zillion years
I think with everything being as it is, I have to say Id prolly go with the x
its not that the cm isnt a great case because it is, im going simply based off the accessory options and the warranty.
however with that being said....I should go with the cm because im mad at sedio now.

Otterbox vs CaseMate vs Incipio for the GN

Best? Worst?
Pros and Cons?
Obivously it's a little early to have a ton of info on each (at least in the states) but I'm sure this thread will prove useful as more people at theirs.
I didnt make it out of the parking lot with the Otterbox. It's a great case and I feel like I could throw my phone off a building without any damage. However I didnt notice how much girth it added to the phone until I tried to put it in my pocket.. things a tank. Easily doubles the width, so keep that in mind if its important to you.
I have the casemate toughcase. Originally i liked it but now not so much. The silicone was a dust and pocket lint magnet and it started peeling up corners of my zagg screen protector. It just didnt fit right but i have the gsm gnex which is a tad thinner. I tested the otterbox in a vzw store tonight and i hated it. Everytime i touched the screen the protector made little tap like noises because it wasnt touching the screen. Again....i think its because the otterbox is made for the LTE nexus. I have the diztronic tpu case in matte black and also the smoke color and ive been happy with them so far. They also do not add any bulk. I have to wonder why anyone would want to get a thin and light phone only to add a bulky looking case?
I have the casemate tough case, I don't mind the dust trapping cuz it really doesn't do anything. I have the gsm version, the top and bottom part is a tinyyyy bit loose, but also doesn't bug me. The thickness is perfect and i think its as much protection as i need so... I hope that helps :0
I have case mate tough and pop case, and I highly recommend the pop case, the design, protection, feel, it sums up as the best case for me...I use otterbox for most of my devices, and the case mate pop case does not lack any of the protection compare to otterbox

I just ordered a case mate pop. How does it seal around the front face (glass)?
Also, does the part that seals to the glass attack lint?
What about a screen protector? What is best one that doesn't make the screen feel or look weird?

I have case mate tough and pop case, and I highly recommend the pop case, the design, protection, feel, it sums up as the best case for me...I use otterbox for most of my devices, and the case mate pop case does not lack any of the protection compare to otterbox

I've had the Pop for other phones. It's a nice case, my only complaint about that series is the side rubbers. They tend to wear off as time goes on and starts becoming loose.
Provides excellent protection though.
I don't have the phone yet (ordered online) but I bought the incipio case for it earlier today. Anyone else tried it on their LTE GNex? Thoughts? I didn't see a Otterbox case for it at the Verizon store.
I got the incipio case with mine when I picked it up earlier. So far, I like it, its real tight fitting and doesn't add a whole lot of thickness. Only downside is the silicone around the edges is a lint magnet while in the pocket

I have the incipio case and really like it. Fits snugly around my GSM Nexus and isn't too big. I had the Case Mate tough case with my S II and just found it too big

Sedio has some really nice cases. I have had one for nearly 2 years now for my original Droid. It has protected it well although it did crack eventually after many drops.
I also bought the sedio car mount/charger and really liked that as well.
Sedio is a bit pricey... 2 years ago the car charger mount was at least $50 and the case was $20-$25. It was a very thin form fitting case that is plastic but has a almost rubbery feel to it. Very tough and it barley added any thickness to my Droid which was amazing. Guess that is why it was so pricey.
I got the shell holster charger combo when I ordered my GN yesterday... waiting for it to arrive... as patiently as I can!
I tried the Otterbox in the VZW store on my GNex -- certainly looked industrial and protective, but it made the phone huge. The Incipio seemed like a good compromise - the rubber inner part goes on easily, and the plastic snap-over layer keeps it nice and snug to the phone. The egde protrudes just enough so that you can place the phone glass down without the glass touching a table - perfect.
No screen protector yet - and I may not. It may not be Gorilla Glass, but it's been shown to be "fortified", and I won't put it in my pocket with keys or change... The Incipio seems like a good choice so far...
Anyone have a link for the black Case-Mate Pop case? I can only seem to find the white one.
EDIT: Nevermind, I'm an idiot

The Defender (The more expensive, bigger one) or the Commuter?
So I've already ordered the Case Mate Tough, because I didn't know there was a Pop for the Nexus yet.
They don't show it listed on the actual Case Mate site Nexus page.
What are the differences between the Tough and the Pop?

I have the Otterbox Commuter for my Razr and it looks like the silicone shares the same properties of picking up everything in my pocket. lol
I really like the Case-Mate Tough Case which I had with my HTC Sensation and it didn't pick up as much lint as the Otterbox commute or now possibly the Incipio.
I can't wait for my phone to arrive so I can finally try for myself.
Thanks!

If you google Seidio, Case-mate, and Otterbox... you will find lots and lots of people complaining about their Seidio cases. I have owned a few and will not buy from them again.

Commuter or Defender?
the question is which of these fit the GSM Version well.
Diztronic only $10 from eBay. Perfect fit and no bulkiness added.
I have the GSM version as well

Speck Candyshell vs. Otterbox Commuter

your thoughts? have narrowed it down to these 2 cases for the X - looking for "good enough" protection without adding a lot of bulk. I have heard the button covers on the Speck cases go "bad" after a while and that the Candyshell is super "slick" to hold - offering no grip...But I realize the OB Commuter adds a bit of bulk and Otterbox, as a company, can't be beat...
ideas? suggestions?
I've heard mixed results on the Speck. I wrote to them, asking if they planned to create a matte version of the case, and I was told that they had no plans.
The only case I've purchased (and hated) was the Trident Cyclops. I think I'm probably just going to get the Otterbox Commuter and be done with it. The trouble is, they're sort of hard to come by. Not sure why, exactly.
I don't own these cases for the Moto X but I have used them at least once in the past. I'd say go for the commuter. Otterbox provides excellent customer service and make some quality cases. The candyshell is cool at first but the glossy finish does attract a lot of scratches and won't look that good after a while. It also has a durability issue you mentioned.

Little local company called Amazon has them in stock.
Yes, finally. It's been a third-party markup item for the past few weeks. Sadly, it's still $1.52 short of free shipping. So silly. :/
Thanks for the heads up, though. I might just order from Otterbox directly to save a few bucks on shipping.

I forget that Amazon charges for shipping... Prime is the best thing ever.
I could never get the Speck Candyshell I bought to fit right - the power button wouldn't line up and was constantly being held down and rebooting the phone. I also noticed that it attracted everything to it, like static cling or something, and almost immediately looked dirty. The slickness didn't bother me much, though I didn't use it for very long. I ended up getting the Commuter (off eBay, bundled with some knock-off cables I threw straight in the trash), like I should have in the first place, and the fit is wonderful. It's a bit bulkier than the Candyshell, but not obnoxiously so, and you can't beat their warranty and customer service.
Hated the commuter. Slippery, hard to put on and off, buttons are lousy. Ended up with an incipio dual pro (which I love).
I have been using Speck Smartflex Card case for my iPhone 5.
It's good, protection is there considering the fact it's not very bulky, and I love the cards compartment!
I just recently bought a Otterbox Commuter case from mobijoystore.com, have yet to try out, but looks slightly bulkier than speck.
Yeah, the commuter is overly slippery for a case. The rubber is the inside layer, and the plastic outside. The plastic is slippery. I have one...Didn't mind it too bad. Really need a holster at work tho....so got a defender. It's the opposite...plastic on inside, rubber on outside...much better. Unless you want a holster and maximum protection tho, it's pretty bulky.

Slippery? The commuter is fine. You guys make it sound like it's coated in oil. This case is very well put together and not slippery. Thin too. I use the pro shell case now but that is only cause I wanted a clear back case. Once spring comes that commuter is back on.. Outside activities demand that

I've used commuter cases on two other phones and was always impressed with the durability they provided. I actually prefer the rubber on the inside. Past rubber cases became too linty and were difficult to place in my pocket. The primary downside with the commuter is how much it will cover such a nice looking phone.
I'll be the asshole who says neither. Get a Cimo case.
