[Q] Rooting HTC Desire Android 2.3 - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How i can root my HTC Desire with official Gingerbread.
AlphaRev18 and unrEVOked (last) dont work.
P.S. Excuse me for my English.
THANKS

you can't. Could try 2.2 RUU to revert back to Froyo and then root.

He can't revert back to Froyo as the Hboot have been upgraded.
Your kinda stuck till someone bring a rooting method or something like that!

i cant downgrade because my hboot version is 1.02.
and its not suported with my Froyo ruu.
What can i do?

Wait until there is a way to root or S-OFF your phone..... if that day will ever come.

hi, what do you think, when will root?

Fantastic! Just switched for a sec to new ROM from my favorite MIUI. . I'm sick seeing old Sense
No shell or DHD method will work?

[Q] Need help

First of all i wan't to apologise because there's probably a thread about this somewhere, but ill be honest i searched and googled a lot and only got more confused. I am really lost in the terminology and everything that is availbale on this forum so i'm just going to ask here and hope for a simple answer.
I have an unbranded unlocked HTC Desire, which i rooted to the Nexus One 2.2 froyo. Now i want to go back to stock 2.1 htc sense so i can update it to 2.2. I can't use the stock roms because htc sync doesn't recognize my phone. so im kinda lost and don't know what to do.
Is it possible to do it? and if it is possible, then can some one please explain in a simple step-by-step form how to do it.
Thank you in advance!
Im pretty sure you can just extract the rom.zip from an ruu and flash it from recovery

Hello,
first of all, before doing something wrong
screen AMOLED or SLCD?
HBoot ? to check the Hboot vol.down+power
U can downgrade to 2.1 (HBoot 0.80) using a SAPPIMG there´s a thread in the forum explaining how to do it, but first check your screen type first...
If it´s AMOLED like mine i can post the RUU i used to unroot the phone and get the Froyo2.2
it's AMOLED
hboot version 0.80.0000
Ok so was mine, so i runned this RUU:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...3.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
then did the OTA update
i have froyo 2.2 already on it.
will this take me back to the 2.1 htc sense?
just tried it, getting an error that the phone is not connected to the usb. and it obviously is

Why is it precisely that you wish to revert back to HTC 2.1 then to HTC 2.2 again?
You can currently flash HTC 2.2 ROMs directly, which have HTC sync working. They are different to the Google/AOSP FroYo ROMs on many accounts, most paramount with the addition of HTC Sense.

U need to have Htc_sync installed...
http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=312&cat=3&dl_id=982
Or u can also downgrade to 2.1
follow this link and see the tutorial on post #9
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745903
Thank you everyone for your help and use full comments. I ended up using the guide from the desire development forum, its under "[TUT]Complete upgrading guide(root, unroot, flashing ROM & updates)" sorry i cant post links yet. . It is very easy and noobie friendly.
I downgraded to the stock htc desire 2.1 and updated with the official 2.2.
Now i have 2 issues with it:
car mode enables itself every 10 mins or so even if i switch it off.
and some websites reload themselves in 10 or so seconds after loading them.
any ideas?
Thanks

[Q] Can I put a new ROM if its not rooted ?

Just bought a new vodafone wildfire and had it sim unlocked
Its on 2.2.1 and hboot is 1.001
So I get the joke, I can't root it
But is there still a way of putting a generic ROM on it ?
If the "old days" you could do it with a gold card.
Does this still work on "2.2.1" ?
many thanks in advance
No, it doesn't. Sorry.
You could try downgrading there is a thread but the issus is there is a possibility of bricking the device so of course be carefully

Indeed .... don't do this.
It's to risky....wait and root if it's possible for u !
u can only update RUU rom.
you could do the S-OFF (security off)in any bigger service with XTC-clip,after that you can root and flash what ever you wish......

I am new to android. I have used WinMob for the last 6 years.
I tried several times with a gold card and the shipped WWE RUU, but failed with a signature error.
I searched but couldn't fine a specific thread on flashing stock RUU for 2.2.1. Can someone plz point me.... Thanks in advance.
Question don't belong in the Development section <---please click link and read....moved to general...
the older days have gone.
none of the processes which worked for eclair wildfire (with older hboot) now work for froyo wildfire.
And till now, on froyo wildfire with hboot 1.01, u cant even get a simple root just for using ROOT ONLY APPS.
what all u can do is WAIT DUDEEEE...................

Yes but the problem is that you can't root or s-off if you have installed stock Gingerbread. That's what andQlimax was trying to suggest.
I have same issue with lovalim, so I pray everyday that unrevoked or alpharev can save us......
unrevoked or alpharev, please help!!!
Worry !
So folks here .. does that mean GB upgrade should be done only once i have taken sufficient reviews and made up mind for the same.
Guys is the upgrade not worth it!!! i heard the memory available will reduce to something like 128mb but i heard there are better abilities to move applications to SD card.
Is it true??? is any once facing serious disappointments after the upgarde?
I am kinda waiting for responses !

Why don't you install a pre rooted version? Then your hboot won't be upgraded and you can return to froyo if necessary.

Well i m looking at installing the Stock GB via RUU from HTC.. which now i dont think will be favourable for me after the responses !
I had contacted the HTC Support to ask the query regarding the downgrade possibility. The support guy has informed that this HTC Stock GB upgarde is some sorta special upgrade and hence it seems they will rollback my device incase i m not happy ..
" We informed you that after upgrading your HTC Desire to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, if you wish to again move for Android 2.2 Froyo you may visit our service center and get your device downgraded to Android 2.2 Froyo. "

Since i m a newbie i have a doubt, does that mean there is no hboot upgarde happening ..
Looking forward to further thots from all the geniuses here !!
No there is an hboot upgrade, I think it just means only they can downgrade it for you which is why you have to take it to their service centre.

i hope that they can find solution to root the phone cuz the new GB is not good and it's not support Arabic language and the available space is not enough to install application and allot of things
and i read this news about rooting the new GB http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209243
i don't know is this's true or not

i was thinking of doing this too, what is wrong with it,why do people not like it,2.3 has a force to SD card function so memory shouldnt be a problem,a review would be great so i can make a decision, does it affect your SMS and MMS like they said it might? and if this does stuff up then how else could i get it rolled back as i live in australia and have no idea where a service center is,i would have to go to my Telstra store to have it sent in which case im not sure if it is covered by warranty?
Service centre for sydney is fonebiz rokdale
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
At the moment there is no way to have it rolled back, it'll change your boot animation so telstra will most likely notice that you don't have their official rom on it therefore voiding your warranty. I think the main reason people don't like it is that once its installed you can no longer root your phone so you're stuck with it. Also, I'm not sure how great the stock force to sd feature would be.
Sent from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
i thought my warranty goes through HTC? at least thats what i was told? if its a ROM by HTC why would it void their own warranty? well is it that bad that ppl want to go back to froyo? or is it coz they just want to complain or what? what is the actual difference that makes it a poor upgrade, and how come u dont think the force SD would be good?
Not so great, better to flash custom rom.

my desire dosent like to root for some strange reason, ive tried a bunch of times with no luck so this is kinda my only option
what is force to sd?
where do i find it on my desire please?

After that i could install any ROM I wanted.
Im now stuck with http://www.coredroidroms.com/site/ an I love it!

Hey all,
Is there a way, using AAHK or just plain adb commands, to get ROOT.
I ONLY want root on my phone.
Have been playing with many many roms for a year now, but gone back to stock via RUU, my phone still has S-OFF, and I just want root, sudo/superuser function for certain apps, I dont want my CID changed to 111111 or any other included feature that AAHK provides in one single option.
Phone is on latest OTA update, 3.12.405.1, sense 3.0, android 2.3.5
Can anybody shed light on how I can do that?
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Will

What he said!
Even temp-root will do just fine for me...
I don't want to downgrade my ROM, I don't want custom ROM... I don't even need a custom recovery installed.
I just need root access for 60 seconds so i can run Lucky Patcher.

What about Advanced Ace Hack Kit (AAHK)? You can Google for it; it's not posted here. You could also go to the thread in my signature for some beginner guides.
Super one click only works when you are already S-OFF. Use the advanced ace hack kit.

does downgrade means going back to 2.3.3?

[SOLVED (HELP)] Need help with downgrading

hi, I just got DHD instead of my old Desire, which I rooted with no problems. I am not novice, and I wouldn't ask you all for help, but i really don't know, how to downgrade it. I found some tutorials, BUT THEY DON'T WORK!!! I dont know why, but when i'm trying flashing PD98IMG.ZIP via bootloader, after checking PD98IMG.ZIP, it says "error, main version is older"... I have GOLDCARD and i have always follow the instructions!!! precisely!!!!!
When i try downgrade via cmd and adb, after checking those things, it says no # but $..and thats wrong!!!
visionary or gingerbreak dont work with this version, i think...
Android 2.3.5 ; HTC sense 3.0 ; software number 3.13.110.4 ; radio 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M
please help me.

Try downloading one of the RUUs from here. Just boot your phone to the bootloader screen and plug it in then run the correct one for your phone. If you can boot into a ROM you can also do that, then plug in your phone, and run the RUU. It will give you all the instructions. BTW codename for HTC Desire HD/Inspire 4G is ACE. So get one of those RUUs:
Edit notice I can't post outside links cause I'm under 10 posts.
Just google "Shipped Roms HTC Ace"

EDIT:/// CAN NOT FLASH ANY OF RUU's
