The built-in HTC task manager, or some 3rd party app you installed? The built-in one is fine.
What ROM are you coming from, and did you wipe data?

Looking for an app to stop apps

Not a task killer but looking for a program that keeps stuff from running at random like ebay paypal google maps etc until i want them to run.
From my permarooted 1209mhz G2 with CM7 nightly 6
You can always use the premium version of titanium to freeze/unfreeze apps.

I do have titanium premium but does freezing it prevent it from being used on demand?
From my permarooted 1209mhz G2 with CM7 nightly 6
No you won't be able to use it on demand. Ill look around but I'm not 100 percent there is something that's going to do it the way you want it to

Its market description says it has problems with CM7. I guess your only option is to wait until the developer fixes this.
Fast reboot killes everything.. maybe not what your lookin for.

Maybe a Task Manager is what you are looking for?
There are a number of Task Managers that offer a "Kill All" feature. A possible work around until the previously mentioned program works on CM7 is to use a KA feature that includes only the programs you do not want running.
.......Actually, one or more of the TMs should allow you to kill programs when the are not in the foreground. The Atrix does this with its Task manager. You can also use a startup manager to prevent them from starting up at boot.

Verify the download as the latest, download, and re-flash again.
Not sure about Chrometophone though.
MarketEnabler
If you don't feel like reflashing,
you can install apps restricted to certain zones (such as Chrome to phone) via the market using MarketEnabler

Fire it up, go to the "Settings list", long press on one of the listed providers, click "fake this provider now" and then you can install Chrome to phone (and other zone restricted apps) like you would do for any other app via the Market.

ALL apps force close?
Something seems thoroughly wrong with your install. At this point I'd consider a complete wipe & reinstall of your ROM.

I use DroidWall. It's free on the Market, but it does require root. I'm thinking most if not all of your choices of an app to do what you are asking will require root.
Wow thanks. I already have that app and I thought I'd read it trough thoroughly but there you see.
Anyone know if you can disable apps from starting at all, e.g. Social hub?

If you have root, you can freeze it using Titanium Backup.

Ah yes, I forgot about this app. I have this installed too.
try Gemini App Manager is the best app!
Stop an app from connecting - DroidWall
Stop an app from starting - Autostarts
For freezing apps you could also use app quarantine, I like it best.

Auto stop app?

Is there any app that can stop apps from auto running. In background I tried rom toolbox but it sucks when I disable apps in auto manager.
Any help?

I think this should be on Q&A, not sure.
Anyway, try Autostarts from Play Store.
You must search here:
https://play.google.com/store
Autostarts
Autostarts, it's a paid app in the play store. Amazing app! After a flash its my first app downloaded right after titanium backup
I also use Autostart, it is a great way to stop apps from auto-running in the background!
But wich Autostart ? On Google Playstore we have two apk: One from Michael Elsdörfer, and other from Cyberhorse.
Wich is right ?

i recommand using app called "fast reboot" its not auto but its a 1 click thing
also u can use the go launcher task manager
it has n auto stop option and also the one click thing that stops all running apps.
its great and im using it
no u dont need go launcher 2 run it
in my opinion u must not force close apps as it restarts and drain more battery.
android manages the background apps very efficiently

Cant uninstall apps quickly :(

Am using cm 10.1 build 18, i cant get into 'Apps' section in settings panel, whenever i click on Apps the phones performnce is utter slow. Cant even select the uninstall button, but other than this issue all is well. Any recommends for this?
If you have many apps installed it may take a while to load them after you select apps in the menu. You can also use titanium backup to uninstall apps.
