Does the cwm version wipe data and internal SD card? Also I notices that is contains a recover image, does it write the stock version, or is it a cwm version?

stock is stock recovery..
rooted is CWR.
None of the updates wipes data and a data wipe is not needed.

OK can this be done via the bootloader? I'm stock rooted and able to pull up cwm from power up. Or is this just doing it with adb?

I Can't get it to work, if I flash through CWM, it will start the update and abort without a detailed error message.
If I extract the boot.img and system.img and try to flash through fastboot, I am getting:
sending 'boot' (8192 KB)...
FAILED (command write failed (Unknown error))
finished. total time: 0.656s

I think he did it through fastboot only. That's what I wanted to know. Can we just go through fastboot if we are on stock root?

I'm on 3.1 rooted with CWM 3.2.0.0 R4c

Thanks. I guess I misunderstood.
I thought that by stock you meant stock (rooted) with CWM. Meaning not on another ROM like Tiamat ROM.

I am trying to find out that myself. I think we can use the first file from the third option and unzip it and just do a restore from cwm. I am on stock root myself.

I got it working through the 'Restore' process using Nandroid. I even installed the latest Tiamet 2.1 Kernel, and everything is working well, except the External SD Card is Read Only.

Well that kinda makes it not worth loading then.

I'm stock rom and rooted, and having the same issue(s). Fastboot won't work, and CWM errors out.
This is what fastboot does:
C:\sdk\tools>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
< waiting for device >
sending 'recovery' (3998 KB)...
FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))
finished. total time: 0.002s
C:\sdk\tools>

Use recovery to do it, not fastboot.

Recovery errored out too. It gets to "installing update" then says "installation aborted" with no reason given.

Thats the thing. Whenever I try to flash it threw the custom recovery it fails every time no matter the scenario. And on my friends HTC One X I know that I had to flash the boot.img for it to work. Everything is done properly on the EVO it is s-off rooted and everything it just won't except me flashing the rom. It is driving me nuts that I can't get this stupid thing to work.

frostyJB error

Hi Guys,
I will install FrostyJB_4.1.1 on my SGS3. I use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1874063
Code:
E:Error in /sdcard/FrostyJB_4.1.1_Official-v11.2.1.zip

Installation aborted.
I just went through this with the developer of Xtremepedia. What recovery are you using to flash Frosty? The problem is because of the Update vs Updater scripts. I think that if you use the LAtest TWRP, you shoudl be ok and get past that. If you are using CWR, you might want to go to Advanced>Toggle Scripts (I think. It has been a long time since I used CWR).
I installed today with Twrp no problems. I suggest installing that easiest way is from goo.im click install recovery script

[Q] NuSenseOne ROM install not working.

I tried to install the ROM from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2631840
I'm running a ROM based off stock 4.3 for the Verizon HTC One, version 2.10.605.1 of the ROM on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485319
My my baseband is 1.12.41.1112_2.
I'm using Clockworkmod Recovery version 6.0.4.7, I wiped the Dalvik, data, system, and cache then tried to install the zip I had on the phone twice and both times I got this error:
format () expects 5 args, got 4
E:Error in /data/media/0/NuSenseONE-KitKat-m7vzw-s55-stock_RC1.0_020614.zip.
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I also tried using adb sideload and got this:
* failed to write data 'protocol fault (no status)' *
I used adb sideload for the ROM I'm currently on and my device is recognized when I use adb devices to check. The sideload gets to 100% then gives that message.
I was hoping to post straight to that first thread but since I'm a new member I was hoping somebody could help out? I already searched the thread for the ROM I'm installing and didn't find anything that helps me. Thanks!

Try flashing twrp recovery.
As brholt6 mentioned, it sounds like a bad download. Redownload it and check the md5 before flashing again. If it still fails you should try what DavidHawk62 suggested and try TWRP. I've been using TWRP to flash since I got my One and have had zero problems. I'm currently on NuSense.

I redownloaded straight to my phone and tried it, redownloaded to my computer and tried adb again, but I still get the same error.
May just do what cmlusco and Crawshayi suggested and try TWRP.
Its not a bad download. Status 7 refers to an invalid argument in the zips update-script. It tells you the error is "format () expects 5 args, got 4". This means that in the update-script of the zip, it is calling to format a partition but was not given all the arguments needed to do so. It has to do with being on a newer recovery. You are probably going to find a lot of zips will fail with this error, while on your current recovery. The same issue happened when twrp was released. As i said flash twrp recovery and flash the zip thru it. Or try this one on your current recovery, where i modified it to have the correct arguments. DELETED

I can access the original rom yes.
It looks like Google Chrome saw all downloads as bad links. So thats why i could not download anything i found. Not even Revolutionary.
Went to an other pc, downloaded Revolutionary and got my HTC Desire rooted.
I could not find the 4EXT recovery that works for my phone, so i flashed clockworkmod (the one without touch).
Wanted to try a new Android on this phone, so i:

modified changes revert back after rebooting the device

my device has been running cm11 unofficial version for quite sometime now.. the 20140921 version.. but recently I've started having a problem that the phone restarts suddenly.. so., i tried doing a fresh flash again.. but i keep getting the assert error. and the phone restarts. I have the recovery image which grarak had posted in the thread. But i donno how to use it. And now the problem has worsened because once I install any new app, the phone restarts on its own and after which it restores it back to the time when the app wasnt there.. I'm not able to make any new nandroid backups too coz the device restarts again.. I thought it might be a CWM error, so I tried flashing TWRP.. but its again an img file which i donno what to do.. sighs. .. and also, if i try to do a fresh flash of the official version of cm11 now, using the recovery i have now, will it show the assert error again?? thanks a lot in advance... hope someone can get me out of this mess..

actually this problem is much more serious than that.... my device has kinda frozen in the present state... if i uninstall any apps and then restart the device the app remains there itself.. and if I try to install a new app, after restart, the app is nowhere to be seen.. so, in short, i cant install any new apps or make modifications to the previous ones... I'm not even able to install any other recovery due to this... it seems like there is some problem with the R/W rights.

Ok let's see, so your saying that the device won't allow to read or write, meaning 1 of 2 things.
Either you lost root access by uninstalling or modifying something, or
your device has accumulated too much background information / app data and it won't allow it to make any more changes due to limited or in other words, there's no space.
If you have CWM 6.0.4.7 then you will get the assert error every time. This is just to make sure you do have it flashed.
First thing's first.
-Go into your bootloader and go into fastboot mode. Plug it into the PC and it will say fastboot USB.
-Now download and run this .exe:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7nn4a5xzx2pw7as/CWM_Recovery_en.exe?dl=1
-This will flash the latest 6.0.5.1 CWM automatically.
1. Now that you have the latest recovery installed,
-Boot into the recovery and wipe the CACHE and go into advanced options and wipe DALVIK CACHE. Do not press factory restore.
-Hit reboot device and test by installing an app to see if this fixes the issue.
2. If it still reboots after installing an app then download this .zip:
http://download.chainfire.eu/452/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip?retrieve_file=1
-Put this zip on your SD card/internal storage
-Go into CWM and flash this .zip.
-Reboot the device and test again.
3. If BOTH of these steps failed then you will need to freshly install CM11.
-While the device is still on, put the latest CM11 on your device or recycle the same one that your using if you prefer its stability.
-Boot back into CWM and do a factory restore.
Factory restore is almost ALWAYS necessary for every time you flash CyanogenMod unless it is an update that specifically states it can be "dirty flashed" which is just a way of saying you flashed it without wiping all your information - data/cache/dalvik off of it.
Let me know how this goes for you.

Ok let's see, so your saying that the device won't allow to read or write, meaning 1 of 2 things.

Yeah i already had the CWM 6.0.5.1 running on my device, but I flashed it again just in case.... That didnt solve the issue.
Next I flashed the Super SU zip from my SD card(since anything I place in my internal storage vanishes once I reboot... even if rebooted in my recovery) That again didnt solve the problem
I did a fresh install of CM11, 20140921 which I am running at present due to the stability issue you mentioned.. (have tried with the official nightly a couple of times to no avail)... It shows the assert error just as before, all the time.
And yes, all the apps I uninstalled came back again, as always Completely out of any more ideas... And also I get quite many error messages often " so and so app stopped responding" and stuff

Did you try wiping JUST the Cache and the Dalvik cache WITHOUT doing a factory restore? These options are in CWMR.
Also, what is your device model? (a5_dug/chl/dwg/ul etc.)
If your not sure it says it at the top when your in the bootloader.

Follow this guide and restore your phone back to stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-816/general/rombackup-t2811252
Its an TWRP nandroid backup of the original software, and if you have an updated version it will be able to update as well if you flash the stock recovery.
