I'm pleased to present a WIP (work in progress) pre-release of my next Android 2.1 based MoDaCo Custom ROM for the GSM HTC Hero! READ THIS WHOLE POST BEFORE YOU START! No, really, it contains everything you need to know.
This is a sneak preview of the base that i'll be using for the full MCR release... to give you all a chance to play, tweak, test, comment etc. etc.
About MoDaCo Custom ROMs
MoDaCo Custom ROMs are based on official ROMs - either shipping or leaked. A MCR release is designed to feel as far as possible like a stock ROM, with optimisations, tweaks and complimentary additions that enhance the user experience. The aim of a MCR is to be ultra reliable for use on an everyday device.
Requirements
In order to use this ROM on your device, you must have a custom recovery image installed. You can read more about how to install a CRI on your device in this topic.
Features Included
•Based on the Chungwa 2.1 release
•Rooted with Superuser 2.1 by ChainsDD
•Built with the latest version of MCR build process which reduces the size and boosts the speed of the ROM

•Optional dropbear (SSH server, username 'root, port 2222, password displayed in 'About' screen)
•Optional A2SD and A2SD+ (old style) via the online kitchen
•Optional baked in Wavesecure via the online kitchen (installed to system partition for maximum security)
•Optional WiFi Status indicator
•Removed Chinese content (will be available as an optional kitchen component)
•Completely de-odexed for optimal customisability
To install this ROM:
•Ensure you have a custom recovery image installed (see 'requirements' above)
•Download the zip file of your choice from the links below (or the online kitchen) and copy to your SD card
•Restart your device in recovery mode (power on with the home button pressed)
•PERFORM A NANDROID BACKUP FROM THE MENU
•Select the option to apply an update zip, and select the zip file you copied to your memory card
Note: As this is a non-odexed build, the first boot will take a while. After you have completed your initial setup, I recommend rebooting to allow the cachedalvikcache script to free up space on /data.
Upgrading
No wipe is explicitly required in order to use this ROM, however if you do encounter issues of any kind, it is recommended that you wipe your device and reproduce the issue before raising it here.

[*Edit ] -> After the first reboot, the "com.google.process.gapps" stop unexpectedly... and the phone is unusable...

Will we be able to to replace the kernel with an OC one in the final version, like we can on other roms?

I'm having issues such as my device hangs/freezes during use. Then after awaile it reboots. Does anyone have a similar problem?

after using it for while i have actualy had the freeze reboot 9 x and the .com process 6 x lol but its in beta so it will be fixed

Had a couple of force closes after installing my apps like swype ,so would advise against installing this until paul releases the new version

Yep I spoke too soon,... done a reboot, then everything went crazy!

It's back up now - just setting up, so far so good!

Just tried the second release of the ROM and loving it!
Really quick and no FC's yet.

Is it multilanguage? Include simple Chinse？

Everything seems okay, but music player keeps FCing, and having the widget on the dekstop raises an FC every few mins

Install for Clockwork
- Download MAGLDR 1.13
- Download and install the FIXED 400mb version of Clockwork recovery made for this version (Must use this one!!) Thanks to Talderon
- Boot into recovery and do a full wipe
- Flash the ROM
- On first boot, log into all of your accounts
- Will be laggy for a little bit while everything is syncing
- Reboot after about 30 minutes from first boot
- Enjoy!

Fixes & tips
- To get 7 homescreens, go into settings then personalize and click 7 home screen pages
- If you get robo voice on first call, hang up and next call from then on should be fine. If phone acts weird on first call just reboot and you shouldn't see it anymore.

All you gotta do is slap the rom zip on your sd card and install clockworkmod recovery, I promise its really easy! Once you use clockworkmod recovery you wont want to go back to daf much more efficient and you can do backups. If you need any help installing just send me a PM and I'll hook you up!

Yeah I really like the MT4G software but I've never used the phone for more than a few minutes. Glad to know you like the HD2 better Now you can have both.

i still like using dft, always a fresh start anyway when flashing, can u make a dft file. please

Some of us prefer to do specific partitioning per ROM so no space available to data is wasted in a 400mb system partition when you only may have actually needed 291.8mb (this rom) but your choices were 250mb or 400mb.
For those interested in partitioning based on actual rom SIZE and still making the rom clockworks compatible so you can do a backup (and from there do restores etc)....paste the following into your flash.cfg file prior to flashing:
boot ya|boot|ro filesize+2M boot.img
system ya filesize+2M system.img
misc ya 1M
recovery ya|ro 3M
cache ya 3M
userdata ya|asize|hr allsize

What!? Which version did you guys use and can you explain more? Do you have your SD partitioned etc..?

Tried clockworks version...failed!
Can't grasp how to do this after clockworks is flashed and SD is partitioned.
After doing a FULL wipe...
How do I flash the ROM?
If someone can please PM with the step by step instructions on how to flash the ROM to the SD, then I should be ok.
I ended up flashing the build via DAF version in the meantime.

Install ROM:
- Download SpeedMod Kernel K13D Odin Version (is a .tar file ready for flashing)
- Copy the .zip ROM file into your INTERNAL SDCARD!
- Go into Download Mode with 3 button combo
- In Odin use: .tar file as PDA, DO NOT CHECK AUTO REBOOT!! and then flash SpeedMod K13D Kernel
- When finished, Pull out battery from the phone and then pull in battery again
- Go into RECOVERY MODE with 3 BUTTON COMBO
- Install the ROM as usual (install zip from sdcard, select zip then select yes)
- After it has finished, go back and reboot the phone
- Do the first boot (it may take a looong time)

Just coz you cooked directly from stock rom doesn't mean that you didn't have a look ( maybe more than a look) at the Overscroll glow , CRT animation , lockscreen mods that are there. What about those lil credits. They deserve them
But hey, You deserve it too. Nice looking rom!. but the changes are not visible much now i guess. I will have to try it out for checkin it more.
Few questions :
1) why are u having Fugutweaks on?. It's not needed in a 2.3.3 rom. Those 'tweaks' are in fact files from 2.3.3 !!.
2)Where's the JVK Bootloader files ?. I guess it's not there in the flashable zip.
But You need them for GBread to boot and work properly. You haven't mentioned it in the Readme. Do it quickly before someone bugs up their phone.

Isn't it written there that its 'WIPE version'.

in the above mentioned instructions you didn't mentioned to install stock JVB.....is it not required ?

this is like all the other rom on the web if you coming from froyo you must install first gingerbread from odin with bootloader if you already come from gingerbread you just need to install a cwm and after install the andromeda rom!!and no the andromeda rom does not come with the stock ginger firmware you must get it on the web, download it first and installit with odin!!
and the rom its a wipe version!!if you come from froyo and install ginger with odin its already implement a wipe!!

no harm no foul. i dont think hostility or malice was the intent. we started working on Andromeda in December and put a lot of time and effort into it. There was an Andromeda rom prior to that, to which we got permission to use the name. with the amount of crossover we have between i9000 and captivate roms, an i9000 andromeda rom could be quite confusing for some, because a lot of captivate users love the i9000 roms and frequently come over here for the latest and greatest roms to have fun with.

first report I've received from the field, saj222 says "it boots!"
that's all I know so far...

Yes it booted. After it settled down I ATTEMPTED to install Fly kernel 13, but the phone didn't boot up afterwards. I installed Las Venturax 0.6.2 and everything was fine again.
Some observations (in no particular order):
-camera seems to sort of work. I got a FC when trying to take a picture. Did not try video.
-during syncing of gmail account the phone was very slugglish but this was expected
-removed all the sense widgets except the flip clock and it seemed to help speed up the ROM's responsiveness... as did turning off animations. edit: I removed the flip clock too. edit#2: I used setcpu to crank up the min and max to 652MHz and it has helped the unlock ring and general usage. ring unlock is still a little laggy.
-wifi works fine, so does 3G data
-have had a couple of superuser FC's when going into setcpu
-in one instance I received a phone call and hung up after 4 seconds. The phone got really slow and then I got a sense FC which made sense restart.
-whatever version of market is on this ROM is slow
-there is no web browser included in this ROM

edit: was trying to download Gmaps from the market over wifi when market hung and gave me an FC for com.android.mms

u think is it possible to revert back to older Market? the newer Market seems slow on loading, probably heavy on graphics..

i've mirrored the rom on my server here.

the camera can take a pic, but have no zoom function. weather animations seems lacking its animation(like fog animation, cloudy animation). only rain animation is visible(well, my place won't snow, it's near equator).

concerning on ur update, please remove MarketUpdater.apk so that old Market won't get updated to the latest version. And please add back FileManager too. Cheers.

i ported the Team hydra's sense 3.5 zero hero a few days back and i found a problem with the mms......does it work on this rom?

never tested it. i don't rember to use mms in my life
but i will test it and report it.

Very nice ROM, but browser FCs the minute I go to another site. Other than that no problems, only one sense reload. Tried with Las Venturas 0.5 and Las Venturax 0.6.2 .

Rom Description:
- Based on firmware P1000XWJQ3 Android 2.35
- Deodexed
- Zipaligned
- Rooted
- Updated Gmail, Maps, Market, Youtube to the latest versions
- Init.d tweaks
- Build.prop tweaks
- Add AppExtractor
- Removed Samsung Animation, Samsung boot sound
Installation:
If you come from an Overcome rom then just copy the .zip file into your sd card, put your tab into recovery mode and flash it as usual.
If you come from another rom then go to www.teamovercome.net, download last kernel in .tar format, put your tab into download mode and flash the kernel.
Reboot your tab and let it to finish the conversion process.Once it end, put your tab into recovery and flash the .zip previously copied to your sd card.
To avoid any problem:
Go to recovery/storage menu
mount /system and format /system
go back and install the .zip

Note:
I did not mod any visual aspect of the rom so do not ask for screenshots, it is the same as any other stock rom with the same TouchWiz 4.0 Launcher.
I know that someone will ask for difference between this and other roms, well, this is a stock rom with some performance tweaks, at my personal taste it is pretty smooth and this won't be compared to the great Overcome roms speaking of visual enanchments and other tweaks.
For some reasons CSC is different in this new version than in older JQ1, i didn't have problems but in case let me know.

Possible reboot issue solved here , thanks to Daniel.weck, give it a try if you have reboot problem.
For who is having problem with new market, here is the old 3.2.

Nope, this is rom wipe all your data, it's the best way to avpid problems imo, using advanced restore in cwm you can restore all your data but i cannot guarantee if problems went.

Flashed so far so good, it's a wipe ROM, but internal SD it's not wiped during flashing process

Add Addon apk's package to first post, flash them with CWM if you need therm.

Hi ag974, in fact I'm with android, Galaxy S and Tab, also nice to see you, now I'm very quiet cust a "consumer", thanks for this nice rom
I've just went to your profile to confirm, nice old days with WM 6.5.3 and Kaizer

This rom is fast. After a bit of costumization i got it to give me some descent performance.
This is actually a good base for making a rom that suits ones personal needs
