[Q] Send/receive SMS via computer ? - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

Hey guys,
I have SGS2, and I wonder if there is some application that will show me notification when I receive sms on my computer, and I should be able to reply to it from computer too ? I tried "Remote Notifier for Android" from market, and at first glance it looks really nice, but sms notifications doesnt work, and I cant reply to sms via computer aswell. Is there some other app which can do this ?
NOTE: I dont want web-service based apps, that require me to have service started on my phone and to connect through browser from my computer, I want standalone app that communicates with phone through wireless, just like Remote Notifier.

try MightyText.
not sure if it is out of beta yet but it does works. you just need to log in to your gmail account.

True. I guess it is because of the fact you can't 'push' that data to a pc. I believe there's an app needed (like the plugin for the MightyText app) to 'convert' that data to make it 'recognizable' (the data between pc and phone).
Notifications can't be pushed. Only the data itself.
So i believe, what you are looking for, doesn't exist (yet).
Can someone confirm?

i think yes, it does not exist yet. but many people satisfied with how MightyText works if you follow from the first Beta release. i think many people actually find this type is already convenient so far, instead of how you asked. maybe not yet. you can try PM the dev and state your suggestion/opinion maybe.

Remote Notifier for Android does the exact thing I need, except its stopped developing and some features dont work. I searched yesterday alot to find some similar app, but no success.
@LuffyPSP
I already discussed with one of colleagues, and will start developing it in next few days.

I think MyPhoneExplorer might be able to do what you ask. You might wanna give it a try!

Maybe it can, but MPE requries phone to be connected with USB

[Q] "your account already bind a device!"

been using handcent and love it but i run into problems with it all the time. this time it is with the vip package. handcent will not let me login unless i am on the rom that i installed it on which is cm6. the message i get is that your account already bind a device! ive sent them an email asking if there is an easy way to unbind my account from my device but havent gotten a response yet. i was wondering if any of you have run into this problem and if you have found a workaround. thanks
Hi - I have run into the same problem on my Desire - did you get a reply from them on what to do if you get this message? I haven't changed phone but i have updated to a never version of DeFrost....
Switch to chompsms, it's almost the same thing. Also, handcent prevents your phone from sleeping, if you have the spare parts app and it will show you. Hope that helped.

[Q] Facebook Push Notifications FIXED!!

I was wondering if anyone who is running Synergy RLS1 ROM has working Facebook Push Notifications? If so could you help me in getting them to work? I have never had push notifications working on my phone and would like to pin point why it works on some EVO's and not others.
Edit: After doing some research on Google I stumbled upon this page that explains that having "Facebook for Blackberry Smartphones" in your app list on Facebook your push notifications will work. So I found someone who still uses a Blackberry (wasnt easy) and all I had to do was log into my Facebook on their phone and enable notifications and wait for my news feed to load. Then I just logged out. Went on my computer and sure enough the "Facebook for Blackberry Smartphones" appeared in my App list under account settings. Then on my EVO I just cleared the Facebook app data and logged in again and sure enough my Push Notifications were working. I have cleared the data before and it never worked so I dont know why having the Blackberry thing makes it work but it has for me. No more flooding my gmail inbox with Facebook crap... Please feel free to try this and post if it works for you.
The Facebook for Android app just sucks. I don't think anyone has done anything specific to get push notifications to work on their phone - some do, some don't.
You can set up push notifications through Friendcaster using your Gmail or something. I haven't actually done it because I don't use Facebook very often, but I know that the option is there. You can try that out.

I can tell this, it wasn't working when I was on stock froyo, not working still with what I have now. I don't think the FB devs are able to test it on all phones and roms, but then again, I don't think they pay much attention to bug reports. I must have sent them one report everytime they update that notifications are broken.
Friendcaster's a neat replacement, though.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 12 Stock App Issue

Hello everyone,
Relatively new Android user here. I've been running Cyanogenmod 12 Nightlies on my Sprint HTC One m8, and for some reason, I cannot seem to get the messaging or email apps to work properly.
When I set CM Messenger as my default texting app, I can receive messages just fine, but when I go to send, it's as if the sending button is disabled. From what I can tell, setting Messenger as the default texting app should enable the send button, but that's simply not the case for me. The only info I've been able to find online said that Voice + caused this problem, but I think that was specific to CM 11. I don't recognize any apps on my phone that would be the Android L equivalent of Voice +.
As for Email, whenever I try to connect my gmail account, I get a message saying that verification couldn't be completed because the password is wrong. After this, the app closes automatically, and upon reopening it, the app seems to be hung up on syncing but never actually does anything. I've tried linking my account both automatically and manually — both methods yield the same result.
The odd thing is that 3rd party messaging and email apps work just fine. I've been using them as a workaround, but I'd really like to use the stock apps if possible! And aside from that, I'm totally stumped and would really like to figure out what is causing this issue. Any insight you could provide would be very much appreciated!

Update: I got the email app to work — I had the sync parameter set to never because I like to manually retrieve my mail, but it seems like that completely stops the app from syncing at all. It's still a little buggy, but at least it's working. Still no fix yet for SMS app.....

Hello,
Thanks for your reply! I have been using a third party sms app for the time being, but I'd still really like to figure out what's causing this issue. Call me a glutton for punishment I've searched a lot on XDA for a specific cyanogenmod Q&A, but I'm new here, and I'm finding the search interface a bit confusing. Could you post a link to the specific thread you're referring to?

Texting for wifi tablet version

Does anyone know of a text application I can use on my wifi tablet without having to use on my cell phone? I don't mind using a Bluetooth sync application. I tried Pro SMS but it won't work on the tablet. I used textra on my cell phone and I don't want to change it, so the text applications that require installation on both devices will not be what I want.
Perhaps use Samsung's sidesync
I dont think what you are asking is possible or would even be allowed due to security reasons.
Anything like that would surely need permissions on the host device (your phone) via an app.
Side sync which is Samsung devices only has the ability to allow you to use your tablet as if it was your phone.

It has been a while since I used it but this app worked very well to do what you want and it is conpatible with the T-800.

You have to also instal the phone version of the app on your phone and set that up too. Worked great with my Nexus 7. I haven't had a real need for it lately, so haven't set it up on my Tab S.

Yes, sorry, I missed that. Oh, well.
I wouldn't mind using mighty text, however I like textra a lot and prefer it on my phone and the other app becomes the default app for texting on my phone

Odd question from someone who personally does not send a lot of texts. Why can't you just use both? One to text with on your device, textra, and one to sit on your phone and intercept text messages from your tablet, mightytext. Dose mighty text actually have to be the default messaging app to work or can it not just sit there quietly in the background and intercept text messages for you?
I'm using TextNow on my tablet. You can even make calls from it if you have the credits to do so and those are easy to get if you're willing to watch short videos. I've never had any issues with this app.

SMS on Computer / Mac

Hey all,
Got the Pixel 2 XL and love it so far. Came from an iPhone 7 Plus, and really miss iMessage, but am learning to deal with it.
One feature that I've been trying to figure out how to do is have it so I can send text messages from my laptop. I remember back when I had my Galaxy Nexus I used to be able to use an app to mimic essentially how iMessage allows me to text people from my phone or my mac. Looking for something like that again.
I've tried researching but all I can find are thread's / articles from a couple years ago about apps that seem pretty dated. I tried using MightySMS, but after a certain amount of messages per month it requires a subscription.
Personally, I would have loved if Hangouts still allowed SMS, and that would've been the perfect solution.
Any suggestions?
I'm truly sorry if this subject has been beat to a pulp, as I imagine it probably has. I tried researching beforehand, and as mentioned, everything I found was pretty old.
I recommend and use Pushbullet as my daily driver. It is very light with Windows and Web integration. There is not a native app for MacOS but you can use Noti to sync to desktop. I personally just use the web version with desktop notifications on on any platform. If you have Verizon then there is Verizon Messages which is very robust and allows for syncing to iOS. Also MightyText and AirDroid but they are extremely bulky.
I used to use Airdroid quite a lot, and it was certainly a good program that did what it advertised. The only reason I stopped using it is because most people I communicate with use Whatsapp, and Whatsapp web is better than any SMS app on a computer.
Hangouts still does text messaging (SMS) or at least it did a few months ago when I used it last. Install it if it's not there then click on SMS in settings to enable.

I'm in full agreement on WhatsApp. Unfortunately in my experience (at least in my friends/family circle) it's tough for me to convince iPhone users to switch over to using WhatsApp.

As far as I've researched it only supports SMS now if you have your number ported to Google Voice or use Project Fi. Otherwise you cannot.
You are correct, Hangouts is not able to use your cell carrier number.
I've been using Mightytext for years, LOVE it! Does just want I need without the need fuss. Love it!
I use Join. It does clipboard sharing, notifications, SMS, and more. Has a PC app and chrome extension which should work on mac? It's $5 after a month free. Well worth it. I use it constantly both for texting and to send files or share a webpage from my phone to pc or vice versa. Give it a look

I'll 2nd Mighty Text here. I use the free version and never found anything else better, including PB. MT has a 200 SMS per month limit... I've hit it once in 3 years? I use it on my Wi-Fi tablet too.
+1 for Pushbullet. works great for me.
Mighty text or Pushbullet.
I've seen too many bugs in Pushbullet though.

Not sure who your provider is but I used to use Mighty Text when I was with T-Mobile. Verizon has desktop apps for Windows and Mac, however there can be syncing delays on the desktop versions.

I just bought Join and like it, except that the chrome extension conversation closes after I respond to a text. What am I missing?

Yeah I guess that's how it works. I must be used to it because I had to test it. It does seem to stay, I think, if you click on the extension and pop out join in a new window. But if you just reply to a text and don't already have it popped out in a new window it will disappear. There's pretty good support here if you want to ask http://forum.joaoapps.com/index.php?forums/join/
I like Join .. BUT .. Google Drive is blocked at work and since this is where it stores files/messages .. I can't use it. I use MySMS to send and receive texts but I might check out MightyText since it had some positive feedback.
I like Pulse.
It lets you sync messaging between multiple devices and the web as long as the primary phone is left on and has service. You can even text from a second phone using it. That's useful if you have a data only sim in a phone or a tablet.
In my experience the developer can be a bit hostile to bug reports when he isn't sure how to fix it or if you make a suggestion that doesn't align with his vision, but the app is well done.
I downloaded Pulse a few days ago it it seems to work well so far. I also really like the look of it.
