Devices by OS or Manufacturer - About xda-developers.com

The "Devices by OS or Manufacturer" button at the top of the page doesn't work anymore, for the last few weeks. I've tried it using Chrome, Firefox and IE.
It doesn't work on my laptop either. Is it working for anybody else?
I searched to see if it's been asked before but didn't find anything.

Can you be more specific? Does it show a blank page, redirect to another site, etc?
What template are you using? 2010 or classic? It's working fine on this end...

He's right. I'm using SRWare's Iron browser (version 13.0.800.0), which is Chrome minus Google's grubby little fingers, and it does not even drop down. This is in Windows 7 x64 Pro. It is the same thing in Firefox 5.0 and 6 Beta as well in Windows 7 x64 Pro.
In Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Chromium and Firefox both exhibit the same behavior (not working at all) with that drop down menu.
Using XDA 2010 layout all around.

not working here either (google chrome)

Not working here either.
Google Chrome (14.0.835.35 beta-m)
Windows 7 x32

I've always left the template to the default (XDA 2010), clicking the button/down arrow there is no response. When I change to the XDA classic the pull down works.
I'm using Vista on both my desktop and laptop. Desktop is 64bit, laptop is 32bit. I've also noticed that I have the same problem using the default browser on my Acer Iconia (3.1).

It also doesn't work for me: Win 7 Firefox 5

Cool
that make sense

Same problem for me too...

same here. i was going to ask about this yesterday but i forgot
I've had to scroll down to find my device.

same here...

XDA 2010 - Problems with Device Drop down
All,
I switched to XDA classic and the drop down worked but is not working in the XDA2010 style (nothing happens)....so my guess is it is a CSS problem but have not looked that closely
Another thing with the drop down in XDA classic when you choose "all Android devices" it is not the complete list. I looked for the ASUS transformer and it was not shown.
Also I have tried with firefox 6 and IE and receive the same results
Hope this helps the team trouble shoot the problem.

Still not working. I've been using the classic, but hate the colors compared to the 2010 theme.

Site problem with IE9?

I am using IE9 (x86) on Windows 7 x64. And I am having a lot of trouble while browsing XDA on IE9.
The tab become so unstable and it can go not responding whenever i click "Thanks" or "Quote" . The tab crash most time when i clicked " quick reply" on the last post of the page and IE has to recover it.
I don't know if it is just me, or something else?
Anyone can confirm this?
Change browser. Use Chrome or Firefox.
If you want to keep IE, let me check it.
The browser lags to rool the page. IE 9 was a huge improvment over IE 8, but it still sucks.

[Q] Search in a web browser like in desktop Chrome?

Anyone who uses Chrome on their PC will know what I mean when I say is there any Android browser that allows you to search different websites from the navigation bar? For instance in desktop Chrome if you want to search youtube for Lady Gaga you just type in "youtube.com Lady Gaga". Is there any Android web browser with that kind of functionality? Android Chrome doesn't seem to do it.
Thanks for any help.

I use the stock browser and Chrome in that way with no problems. I think, there is something wrong with your settings.
I just reinstalled Chrome on my phone and typed in "youtube.com Lady Gaga" and it didn't work, it just searched on Google. Is there a setting you have to turn on?
As far as I know, the mobile version is fairly new and didn't see any options to enable it. Desktop chrome came with it already functional. The only mobile variation I found was using Firefox w/ the youtube add-on. Which sucks because I hate Firefox.
I love the dolphin browser you should try that one not sure what you are trying to do.

In Chrome on desktop, you can / have to go to options / search settings and set up these shortcuts (if not already present). I've only just started with new Android device - I assume there is a similar place to set such on handheld. e.g. On my desktop, type 'w' 'p' '<space>' auto-changes the address line to 'search wikipedia' (or like wording). I assume you see the same on your desktop when you type 'youtube.com', as per your message.
If nothing else, you can do '"lady gaga" site:youtube.com", in the mean time.

same problem here ... i suppose since the latest chrome v 23 update ... but some threads are working, some not ...
I have an other problem with Chrome and XDA (Windows).
Whenever I close Chrome and restart it, I'm logged out at XDA, although I check "Remember Me".
This is pretty annoying.
Maybe someone has an idea what I can do, I have this problem only on XDA.

No problems here, using Chrome Version 23.0.1271.64 m
I face the issues described here when I use Firefox 16.0.2 on Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit doesn't matter, same problem on two different PC's). The forum will reload the page over and over and over again until I deny to run scripts using NoSript for xda-developers.com. Using Google Chrome (23.0.1271.64m) there is not a problem.
Edit: Now Chrome starts to reload the forum pages over and over again, too.
The others are talking about desktop, not mobile. There is no App for those.

Same issue with Firefox and No Script on windows. I'd be interested in what is causing it if you find out. Likewise, I am enabling and disabling the MANY ad and tracker scripts running on this site.
A fresh profile of Chrome sorted this.No idea how.Same add-ons.

Whenever I hit the back key on my mouse on XDA in Chrome I go back two pages instead of one. Very frustrating. Does not seem to happen in Firefox.
My default browser is Firefox and I have none of the mentioned problems. On Chrome however the pages reload over and over again, just like described here.
Same problem here... Attachment loaded but UI messed up... And I couldn't add smilies... -_-
Happen on mozilla firefox too...
I have issues while using. Xda in browsers too,
But only in my home,
I cant even use the 2013 theme it gets garbled up
In my gf's place everythings fine,
I think it's your ISP, DNS, or browser extentions that is causing the problem

mobile website loading not desktop version

Can anyone else confirm that going to www.crutchfield.com loads a mobile version instead of the regular desktop version? Any idea how I might see the regular version?
I dont have an RT device so cant duplicate and it appears that internet explorer on windows phone 7 loads the desktop version of the site.
Usually the URL for mobile sites has the http://m. or http://mobile. prefix instead of http://www. manually removing m or mobile usually forces sites into desktop mode. Most mobile sites also have a button near the very bottom (alongside where you expect to see copyright info) to reload the desktop site. Hopefully 1 of these 2 will be the case.
On my windows phone (samsung focus, original), it loads the same mobile version as on my surface.
You cant change the url because it will just continue to auto detect you.

My little test with both facebook and gmail.com worked fine. facebook.com on its own directed to the mobile site. http://facebook.com over-rode the mobile site and loaded the full version. You just have to be incredibly specific.
Regardless, you can use the IE developer tools (Tools menu, or press F12, which on Surface is Fn+PgDn). Use Tools->Change user agent string, and select another browser. Then refresh the page, and it should show correctly. (Idiotic web developers trying to be overly "clever" about detecting mobile browsers...)

[Q] FB WinRT

Hej!
Im on Surface RT 8.1 prew and a couple of days ago facebook only displays in mobile version and that sux,wat to do?
In my opinion m.facebook.com is better than regular facebook but thats just me. Certainly faster to load (slow connection)
Anyway, top left corner is a button with 3 horizontal bars. click it, down bottom of the new side pane that opens there is a button that says desktop, click it and voila.

javascript is disabeld on fb loggin page/desktop version...logg in the it defaults to mobile .
where do i find options for java settings on windows rt/IE?
On that version of the site it is on the *very* bottom of the page. I can't screenshot it on my windows phone to demonstrate (its a windows phone 8 feature and I use 7.5) but if you scroll to the very very bottom of the page there is a desktop button.
Javascript is enabled in windows RT already. There is no java, the 2 are not the same. Facebook uses javascript not java. Mobile sites loading instead of desktop sites by default is a known internet explorer 11 problem, can be fixed by changing the user agent string to match that for internet explorer 10 instead. It is because websites do not recognize the user agent string for internet explorer 11 as being a valid browser as it is new, so they serve up the mobile site for maximum compatibility.
As for the confusion over the side button. Facebook have 2 mobile sites. One for desktop browsers and one for mobile browsers, kinda weird. I incorrectly assumed the version it would present is this version (shown in chrome with the side bar open, this is how I access my facebook):
Sorry about that.
I have this same issue. No desktop or full site button anywhere

Add it to Compatibility View in the Desktop version of IE. Then in the Modern UI version of IE, you'll be fine.

I've not got my Surface in front of me, but from memory - Go to Desktop, launch IE, Tools, Compatibility View settings, add the site(s). Then when you visit the site in Modern UI IE, it should display correctly. Or wait for the site owner to add correct support for IE11.
Facebook works just fine on my IE 11 Modern UI on 8.1 RT.
It wasn't working for a few days for me. Didn't change anything and it went back yesterday to full site working
