which rom to use (first)? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

finally got my Dinc2 rooted with the new software root but i'm having trouble deciding which rom to load up (first anyways haha) which ones have had you on the edge of your seat waiting for root/have been running like a dream since you got root for everyone? Also coming from the OG droid these rom files are HUGE! a big rom for my old phone was 80 MB but virtuous unity is 400 MB!!

Miui all the way
I think the file was only 90 mb(ish).

haha its funny you said that because that is the ONLY rom for the DINC2 that i know about. But i never could get used to it on my D1 so i don't think i'll start off this new phones hacking career with something I've already seen and didn't particularly like.

Virtuous Unity got an entire week straight on my phone before I went back to flashing again. Amazing ROM.

I think it depends on what you like. If you like sense then go with one of the debloated roms, or other sense roms. I've only loaded cm7 and had to go find some widgets to replace what I lost by leaving sense. It's pretty stable though and has great theme support. I'm not likely to go anywhere else soon.

Understandable
I always liked cm7 on past devices, but the sense 3.0 lockscreen is awesome.

Incredible sensation

Virtuous Unity 1.31.3

MIUI is amazing. Best ROM I've ever used (so far).

MIUI has its followers but to me its too iPhone-ish. If you like CM7 or AOSP roms You should check out either OMGB or OMFGB by R2doesinc. Amazingly fast and stable with great battery life.

I just got mine s-off and rooted last night as well, I think for now I'm going to stick with the debloated one (RMK or whatever)for now. From what I can see majority of the custom roms have random problems like data, wifi, mms, gps, and other stuff not working. I'll wait for a little longer till the devs work out the bugs before jumping on them.

I run rmk's GingerSense primarily (stock debloated, although I'm not running the latest patch), but I dualboot it with OMGB as well. Love AOSP, but there's some things I use extensively in the stock firmware.

I went with OMGB since I really like my phone as stock as possible. So far, so good.

Ok, I have been on a stock sense type rom since I got my evo and I am wondering if I am missing out.
So, can some of the users please give me some advice on the MIUI roms and maybe viruses roms? Just pros and cons and what particularly you love about those types of roms.
Thanks for any info given...
Have you checked out myns warm twopointtwo? I just flashed it last night along with the gingerbread launcher gingerbread keyboard(which is badass BTW) and the kings #11 kernal plus transparent title bar and its sick. I hate sense but this setup is just amazing. Also if you do this go into titanium backup and delete the HTC lockscreen and you will get this like ultra stealth badass as **** lockscreen that I've never seen before. (No its not the vanilla one)

I've been running MIUI since the beginning of November, it's amazing. I tried going back to sense for the 4G a few weeks ago and after trying Fresh and then Myn's, I restored my MIUI nandroid and haven't looked back again. It's leaner, faster, runs a HECK of a lot smoother, and is stable as hell. My battery lasts about a day and a half with average use and at least a full day with moderate to heavy use. It's a great ROM for someone who wants to ditch Sense altogether but doesn't like how bare bones pure AOSP ROMs are.
Did they update the evo miui Rom with the new UI?

Well you can always flash the latest build and sit on it. I'm still on a month old build and haven't needed to update, though i probably will in the next couple days. MIUI is (was) a weekly updated ROM so we probably won't be getting that kind of treatment anymore, but I'm sure somebody will pick it up soon. There is a lot of love for MIUI out there.

Me personally has ben looking for some Desire Z or Desire HD port, only for the Themes but don't know the names of the ROMS here, or or some Gingerbread ROMS but they are a lot of ROMS here, I;m comming from the HeroC...
Calkulin EVi0 2 best room (I just hate that animation color screen at boot) give me up to 12 hours of battery time.

The best rom for the evo right now is the mikfroyo 4.4 hands down. In terms of speed and customized features it is my favorite of all and mik is already working on

Sorry, I meant Konikub's themes.
NEED TO TRY ROMS: DONT GO WITHOUT AT LEAST 3 HOURS ON THESE.
myn's warm twopointtwo: insane themeing. blows your mind and other parts (hehe). fast, stable, just very themed and very feature inclusive.
caulkin's evio 2: incredibly fast. this dude is amazing. you will find his 'usb/wifi tether hack, reboot mod, mms limit/compression mod's in almost every rom out there. slightly themed to not look as fugly as the htc version, very good battery, extreme speed, etc etc etc.
ava-froyo z3: this man is quite a coder. he goes deep inside the rom to alter things never touched by other devs, including radio, 4g, memory management, etc. its a hit and miss for some phones, but gets amazing results on others.
cyanogenmod: vanilla aosp, the biggest project on the xda. built on many different phones, huge team, incredible changes, its like a whole new phone. you wont get the same results or features from any other phone on the market. no hdmi (claims its almost done) and FINALLY 4G (in alpha 2 testing, the code for 4g had to be totally rewritten by two guys. thats probably the biggest feat in this phone's history)
miui: a crossover aosp rom that looks almost like the iphone but with the functionality and customizability of android +100. infinite amount of features. this isnt really built on anything... everything is different. a brand new operating system pretty much. worth a flash. some love it, some (like me) dont.
I am currently using this ROM [ROM(S)]CM7-EX.v9, its pretty neat, still has a few minor issues but it's usable and yeah its Gingerbread. No 4G or HDMI.

Well put. I will +1 you on the CyanogenMod. Great stable ROM with tons of customizability and features out of wazoo.
I would also put in a recomendation foe Fresh Evo ROM by Flipz. Maintains a familiar Sense UI but has some nice performance tweaks and removes all of the bloatware. Also has full HDMI and 4G support. Just another simple and user friendly option for custom ROM that does not get too radical.

I like all the responses here and how members try to help, especially the 8th grade kid, lol.
I for one won't flash a rom where any of the features of the phone won't work, despite the fact of the great work all of those guys are doing to bring gingerbread to us, I applaud all their hard work. Whatever rom u flash, make sure u do a full wipe so u can get a clean install, do a back up or nandroid before u start flashing and read, read, read and keep on reading, that's the most important thing, get acquainted with any issues or problems that may arise with the roms u gonna flash so u don't panick and go all monkey if the phone freezes or whatever the situation may be. Finally be ready for the storm, flashing is an addiction hard to control.

I know this has already been said but I just have to agree with Cyanogen. The stable build (6.1.2?) is incredibly nice with plenty to do. On the other hand, Cyanogen7 (i.e. nightlies) are a bit more finnicky (still a superb work in progress). I used the stable build until I had enough courage (newbie myself to android) to start trying the night builds. I really dont want to go back to anything else now, not even the stable. Getting excellent battery life (intermittent tho), great look, very customizable. Def worth a try, if anything
Depends on what you want our of your rom. I tried many, but heres my personal experience.
I went with miui for awhile. Loved the speed and uniqueness. In the end missed everything working perfect.
Went to azrael for awhile. Fastest sense rom in my opinion. Highly recommend if you like sense.
Since I don't like sense, but want stuff to be fully functional, I'm currently on vaelpak. Very fast, great on battery, and the vaelpak settings app makes it very easy to tune to your liking.

Myns RLS5 Rom with Aloysius theme..... Sweet or CM7 nightly 13 with Mixer theme.... Awesome

which rom?

I came from the fascinate which had some features I really liked. wondering how the miui rom is running? bugs? also I think my most missed feature was that it stopped charging when it hit 100%. do an of the roms have that feature? I really like the look of sense so I'd be perfectly happy with all the features of it plus the extra personalization included with a custom rom. thanks in advance!
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
I too came from the Fascinate. I tried MIUI on that, but I didn't give it much of a chance (it was pretty early, and like most ROMs for the Fascinate, there were things that didn't work).
I've tried all the major ROMs on the Incredible now (Stock, CM7, Virtuous and now MIUI), and I have to say, MIUI is really nice. No major bugs that I've come across and everything works - GPS, MMS, Camera, Camcorder, etc. Great battery life too. I've simulated the app drawer (which MIUI doesn't have) by placing all my extra apps into a folder, and then placing that folder in the center of the dock bar at the bottom - instant vertical scrolling app drawer. This way, I retain most of what I like about Android, and gain all the nice features and design of MIUI.
If you like Sense, then you'll want to stick to one of the Sense ROMs though. But of all the major ROMs, they're all running really well.
Newts roms are amazing. If you enjoy sense, then i'd recommend trying out his pyramid or sensation releases. Battery life is pretty great too...plus you have all the features of sense 3.0. but the best thing for you to do is just try different roms (sense, CM, miui, etc) and see which one you prefer. happy flashing!
I too came from Fascinate, and have tried every single one of the custom roms available for our Dinc2, at the end of the day I always rolled back to the original GB because that is the one and only rom that has zero problem. Every single one of the custom roms have issue, some more severe than the other, out of all of them the Virtuous Unity, Gingerbang, and RMK debloated version are the only three with the least problem. If I were you I would try them ALL, and see which one you can live with, personally I'm going to stick with the stock rom and wait a few more months till all the bugs worked out. Do not expect any of these custom roms to be rock solid like the Kangbang 2.0/2.1 or evil fascinating for fassy, it ain't happening just yet.

Coming from fascinate also. I've been switching between MIUI/CM7 and they both are more stable than the fascinate was stock (let alone with ComRom/EF). This phone flies and really lets those ROM's work there magic. I haven't even tried a Sense ROM yet, so no comment on how buggy those are; but from reading through the posts, I don't see a reason to use them... Definitely would say that AOSP ROM's are pretty darn good daily's... IMHO.

Not sure if anyone else has been having the low in-call volume issue, but I haven't. Calls are plenty loud and clear as day for me.
And no, there's no issues flashing back and forth between AOSP and stock roms because HTC didn't feel the need to screw with the file systems so much like Samsung did. So happy to be done with all that bs.
I've recently converted to Miui from Unity (which I really like) and have been really pleased so far.

I am almost convinced to give MIUI another try from all you guys talking like this even though I was having connectivity and wired headset problems when I tried it.
I have been using Virtuous Unity's Sense3.0 ever since without a problem...
But, man oh man it is hard to stop flashing Even when I think I've found perfection.
I am using OMFGB 1.3 nighties. It performs pretty well. Very slimmed down AOSP Rom but still has some nice features. I like MIUI and may try it again, but I was having slow data speeds on it so I switched. I like Incredible Sensation also.

The more recent builds of MIUI have been admittedly buggy (or just plain don't work), and I had been upgrading to each Friday build but then realized... what's the point? It ran fine months ago, nothing new has been added that makes any real usability difference, so why was I continually fixing something that wasn't broken - with something that was pre-broken? I flashed an old build that ran fine and I can see no reason to change. Maybe I'll update once (if) an Android 4.0 based MIUI is available. Maybe, but again, what issues would it be fixing?
So my opinion would be, if you like MIUI, find an older build that predated all the current problems (I think anything 11.25 or earlier were good) and enjoy. From time to time, I check out something new, but I keep coming back to the realization that MIUI has real usability improvements over the others, and that's in addition to looking a whole lot cleaner and more consistent.
which ROM?
Glad you asked! I've been enjoying custom ROMs since early Droid Incredible 1 days, and have treid and modified many of them.
For the DInc2, I've used MIUI, stock, and a couple others.
Have totally settled on a daily user with no defects: MIK Runny V. 1.01.
After downloading, I opened it with 7Zip, went to System/Apps, and removed
several things I never use and don't want loading up. Be careful here, though,
sometimes you break other things when removing stuff (!) but that's OK,
you can reload the ROM and start again if you mess up. Fun stuff really.
Well, the camera, phone, txts, Internet, and everything else works.
And it's FAST. Hope you get a chance to fiddle with MIK Runny..
If you're looking for a Sense, efficiently modified stock-type experience,
you'll be pleased.
I agree with the others saying mikrunny. I didn't believe it could be that good, so I tried it myself, and my jaw, literally dropped the first time I flicked through the home screens. It really is super smooth. Also, the battery life is amazing. A day of medium use, with everything synching regularly and nothing turned off, leaves me with about 20% when I plug it in at night.

I'm finding that the ICS roms have just a tad more quirks/bugs than I'd be able to deal with on a daily (being that the phone is primarily my business line too, lulz!)
I'd like to know what your guys thoughts are on the most active/stable GB roms are for the Vision/G2/Desire Z.
I loved Bulletproof MIUI but it's no longer being actively maintained. Are there any well maintained MIUI roms, or are should I go straight to ILWT?
I am staying away from roms like mexDroidMod because being that I'm in the design/UI business- I could honestly say no matter how well that rom performs, it is an eyesore to look at (nothing personal if you like the way it looks). Keeping that in mind, I'd rather not install that rom and play with theming. Just looking for a good out of the box well featured/stable/snappy GB rom.
Everyone has their own prefrense, mine is also gingerbread for now. I've used 15 to 20 diffrent roms and difrrent versions of a few. The one I keep going back to is elitemod, it hasn't been updated for a few months now but is still my favorite rom. Used 3 or so versions of ilwt and I do like the new aroma installer he uses but I still find I like elitemdod better. If you don't want to try many this is what I recommend but only tial will tell you your preference

I would say ILWT or CM7 for performance and stability. But if you want something that looks a little bit better, you should try to find a good Sense 2 ROM (sorry, i've tried a lot of ROM but none with Sense 2 ).
Latest cyanogen nightly or release candidate.

Anything CyanogenMod based.
Try CM7.2 RC1, it is absolutely amazing once you match .so files with the latest radio, doing that makes the battery life on it be quite ridiculously good. It is super fast and, it gives you heaps of tweaks to choose from. I couldn't recommend any other AOSP ROM right now. Anything CM7 will serve you well . The only issue i had with CM7.2 RC1 was that every now and then, there would be this lag that would start up, which would make the phone feel like it was running at 245mhz. There was an easy way to fix that though, switching the overclocking governor to something else and then back to interactive would fix that lag immediately. Other than that, CM7 is very stable where it is now.
Otherwise, try going with Virtuous Sense 2.0. I was using AOSP ROMs for months, but now that i tried Virtuous Sense 2.0 again, i'm very happy with its speed and stability and the features of Sense 2.1. In addition to that, it is absolutely, 100% stable, with no glitches at all.
Oh and since you're looking for a well maintained MIUI ROM, look at Strawmetal.MI. People seem to love his ROMs and they seem to work very well.
I installed elitemode a few days ago and haven't switched back. This rom is awesome and I'm geting great battery life under heavy use... 10+ hrs. Never happend before. Love it..
