[Q] How is the SGP Ultra Crystal screen protector? - Galaxy S II Accessories

After careful consideration, I decided to purchase both the Case-Mate Tough & SGP Neo Hybrid cases for my liking.
Anyhow, I also wanted to decide on a screen protector. The Neo Hybrid case should come with a SGP Ultra Crystal. Reviewing the specs on the website, it seems to be the "thickest" screen protector that would offer the most robust protection. That's great! I could care less for fingerprints... I'm just paranoid that I'll damage my beautiful screen!
Anyhow, I wanted to know how good the SGP Ultra Crystal SP is? For all you that have it, is it a good SP? Coming from a Zagg InvisibleShield on my other phones, I was just worried that wet applicators could damage my $700 phone (yikes!). Thus, I wanted to stick with dry, but still also have good scratch protection. What amazed me was that the Neo Hybrid case actually COMES with that SP... so a double bonus.
I am just wondering for all those people who either have Case-Mate Tough or SGP Neo Hybrid cases (or both!) and/or use the SGP Ultra Crystal SP... (or those that JUST use the SP and another case that I have not mentioned). What are your thoughts? Is it scratch-proof? Is it safe to use? Does it peel up? Any case fitting problems either? Do you have any problems with it?
I've never used anything from SGP at all before. The only SP I've ever used was the InvisibleShield that had to be professionally installed (at a fee!) by the Zagg guys at my local malls, so I'll have to learn how to install the SGP screen protectors.

I'm not sure where you're getting the thickest cuz it certainly is the thinnest from way I've used. I had zagg and it was thick and not smooth. The sgp ultra crystal is smooth and thin and gives the estate clarity.

I´ve used a SGP crystal for my SGS1 and had it one from when i bought it and to when I gave it to my gf (it´s still on) and have been on for 1 year so far.
no straches, no air bubbles, dosnt peel. very close fit.
And I guess its the same for a SGSII, already ordered one, and waiting for it to arrive for my phone

Use the search function.

I have the sgp ultra fine and it is amazing, the only problem I have found is that if you're looking at one solid colour, it seems to have lots of speckles over it, but that is rarely noticeable.

According to SGP's main website and their specifications, it states that the Ultra Crystal:
"25% Thicker than Previous Model, Hard coated for Scratches and Scuffs Proof, Ultimate Clarity surface hardness: 4H."
All the other models (i.e., Optics, Fine, Oleophobic) did not have this saying and also had a lower hardness (3H). Thus, I figured the Ultra Crystal would be the thickest based on these specifications and would be most protected against scratches.
I'm just really looking for people who have had or did not have problems with this SP.

good screen protector,i am using on my phone and very happy with it

Thanks for the replies and updates. A few more questions for those who are using/or had the SGP Ultra Crystal screen protector.
Any of yours staying still? Is it really tight? No peeling at all?
And also, according to the reviews, it seems some people are finding it to NOT be scratch resistant at all? Maybe they had an older version? The specs did say "25% thicker than the previous/original" which leads me to believe they may have revised it? It seems 50/50 or split between whether some people think this SP is too thin/easily scratched or not.

I have a SGP SP on my SGS2 w/ a Neo Hybrid case and it's worth it.
I got mine installed at an AT&T store. I just brought it in & asked them if they could install it for me. Everything was done perfectly in less than 10mins.

It sits perfectly still, there's no peeling at all after three months and I don't see it happening any time soon.
I don't find it scratch-prone at all either, though I don't keep it in the same pocket as my keys. Im very happy with my choice of screen protector.

Using the Ultra Crystal and have Zagg on my other phones. I certainly prefer the Ultra Crystal. It is also not thick. The Zagg feels thicker. Protects very well too.

Using the Ultra Crystal and I must say it was super easy to install. It's very clear and nice to the touch for me. Almost reminds me of my iPod's Power Support Crystal Clear screen protector, except the oil stains are way less visible on the SGP one, at least for me.

Thanks again guys for your reviews.
When did you all purchase your SGP Ultra Crystal? I am trying to decipher whether there's an older versus newer version, and what the differences are. I've e-mailed SGP and they're stating that the previous model was not as thick as the newer ones, so...
How new are these "newer" versions? I am not sure.

Well I've never seen the older version before, they always had the newer one listed this year on their site for a long time.

just purchased the ultra crystal and after 3 days of usage, there's a scratch on my protector and I don't keep my phone with my keys or coins. Not a big deal though, because the clarity of the protector is really good and the fingerprints stain aren't as bad as I expected it to be.

to be honest i have no idea either. Its a really fine light scratch which can only be seen when looking at it under the light.

I'm curious as well. I've used a Zagg before, and it rarely scratches. Maybe once a year, it may get a small nick somehow and stays permanent. The Zagg guys call it a "burn" a.k.a. a super fast scratch. So I guess all screen protectors may be vulnerable to this.
Anyhow, I have ordered a case + one set of the SPs, so that means I should be getting 3 total Ultra Crystal screen protectors (1 from case package and 2 from the actual SP set). I'm trying to determine whether some are more scratch-prone than others. I'm paranoid when it comes to protecting my screen.
Did your scratch get deep enough onto the actual phone?

nope. the scratch is not deep enough to get onto my phone thankfully. it looks very much like a really really fine scratch that can only be seen under the light. However, its probably due to me being too picky about it. I recently placed an order or the oleophobic sp instead. shall see how it goes when it arrives.

Yeah, I figured I went with the Ultra Crystal as opposed to the other SPs (like Oleophobic, Fine, etc) because its hardness was rated highest (4H) as compared to the others (3H). The fact that it was designed for "extra scuff/scratch" protection made me get it over the other SGP screen protectors.
So I figure Oleophobic may offer better fingerprint resistance, but maybe more scratch prone? Hmm...

Steinheil Screen Protectors Out for Thunderbolt

Just an FYI as I know I like to have my screen protector on the day I purchase my phone. Steinheil has all three of their major products for the Thunderbolt now available. Just ordered mine.
Ultra Crystal, Ultra Fine and the Ultra Oleophobic.
I will have to say that I have tried a ton of different protectors in my time and nothing compares to Steinheil.
Crossing fingers for a TB release tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads upon these, I always like to purchase their screen protectors.
Anyone used the Incredible Shield they offer? I put my Incredible in a case when i got it and took it out to clean it a month later and it was all scuffed and scratched up. Dont want that to happen again.
This is my first smartphone, so whats the difference between the three?
Just got mine in the mail yesterday and got to order my Seidio case. That way I am all ready whenever they decide to drop this phone.
As far as the difference between the three:
The Ultra Crystal is bascially the defacto standard for Steinheil. Crystal clear and to me actually enhances the actual screen.
The Oleophobic is new to me but thats actually the one I purchased. Its supposedly like the ultra clear but with an anti-water/oil coating (the iphone has this caoting on the default screen itself.)
The anti-fingerprint one I have also installed on my wife and mother-in-laws's Facinates. Its basically a matte finish that doesn't show any fingerprints but does in my opinion not do justice to the screens on these new phones. But some users just really hate fingerprints.
Hope this helps.
-Lil'
lilsalmon, have you ever seen the Incredible Shield they offer? I was thinking of getting this instead of a case.
Not first hand.
All I can say is I have tried quite a few different cases and screen protectors with my Incredible, Droid 1 and my wife's Facinate and Eris and Steinheil's screen protectors are far superior to all in my opinion.
-Lil'
Can you post pics of the Oleophobic? Ive always used the ultra clears and love them but I wonder how different the Oleophobic is?
Thanks
I've been using the Ultra fine ones for the past 2 days and I love it. I only use SPG screen protectors.
Can't wait to hear what you think of it.
I made the mistake of buying the VZW screens and wound up w/ a scratch on my screen...ugh.
The picture won't show much difference than the Ultra Crystal. Honestly I had always used the Ultra Crystal myself and just wanted to try the Oleophobic. I have been really impressed. Its basically the same clarity etc as the Ultra Crystal but resists fingerprints a bit more. You still get finger prints but not as many.
I hope this helps.

Steinheil fit
How good does the Steinheil protector fit? Does it cover the
complete screen?
Thanks in advance
Fits perfect. You wont even know there is a protector on it.
Got mine installed this past weekend. Best screen protector I have used Had a Zagg on my D1 but hated the rubbery feel. Using the crystal clear and it glides smoother then nothing at all..
Just ordered the Ultra Fine from Amazon. Should be arriving on Friday.
Sounds like the Oleophobic is the way to go, I hope I can get my Zagg off without to much trouble. Has anyone removed a Zagg, what did you use to accomplish it and get the screen clean?
The Zagg should come off no problem. I just removed mine.. nice protection but hate the feel of it.
I got the SGP ultra fine, the first one had problems where the pull tab is for peeling it. The 2nd looked much better, i love the way it feels, finger usually just glides across the screen without grabbing or sticking. The fit is good, just enough room to get it on without it having to be exactly perfect.

They cover the screen but the fit is not "perfect" by definition. They are slightly narrower and shorter than the screen but I've never seen a screen protector with a "perfect" fit. Not sure why it's so hard to make a protector exactly the same size as the screen but apparently it is.
I'm satisfied with mine but I'm not sure it's worth the price premium over the cheap protectors I was using prior to this one. I guess time will tell.

Recommend a screen protector!

I need a screen protector for my Galaxy SII i9100 because I do not want to damage the screen. It should be a pack of 2-3 because I almost always mess up the first time.
It doesn't matter if it is glossy or matte, both are fine, but I am in the sun a lot so I should be able to still see the screen. Preferably something which gets rid of finger oils easily.
I live in USA, so Amazon or Ebay would be excellent.
I am using the Steinheil Ultra Series Screen Protector Films for my AT&T phone, the Ultra Crystal. It comes in a pack of 2. It was very easy to install, no bubble.
It keeps my screen scratch free and I still have the super nice clarity of the original Samsung AMOLED Plus screen.
They even have video to show you on how to do it on youtube or their website (sgpstore.com). There is no fingerprints issues with this Crystal version, you can just use their supplied Micro-fiber fabric and they go away.
You can buy them on Amazon for $13.99. The Ultra Optics which costs $2 more would be my other preference but it did not exist for my AT&T model.
Or you can try the Ultra Oleophobic which is oil resistant and is $13.99.
I use basic screen protector from ebay and work fine...
Phantomskinz - doesnt have the tacky/sticky feel (whilst offering same protection) of e.g zagg invisibleshield.
Google for discount code.

This is the best all around screen protector for the SGSII no doubt.

I would go with a 3M Estoc+ if budget allows.
Try the SGP Glas, although not fingerprint resistant, its a great screen protector which is made of real glass and is shatter-proof in case you drop it or hit it against something. The video on the website, the guy had to use a hammer and hit it twice to destroy it, but its not like you're gonna hit your phone with a hammer any day ^_^
http://www.sgpstore.com/cell-phone/...g-galaxy-s2-screen-protector-glas-series.html
ah, one more thing, when using this screen protector, you have to install the Ninphetamine kernel, due to the charging bug, where the screen is undervolted, the touches on the screen are not detected unless you install the kernel, which tweaks the voltage going through the screen, and the physical touches are being recognized. Other than this, it's a great screen protector + no worries of bubbling!

It's not so much the glass being broken, more the glass being scratched. Which, despite being Gorilla Glass, is still quite easy to do (I have a tiny scratch on mine despite looking after it and never having it in my pocket with anything else for example).

I just got the SGP Ultra-Fine and I'm very satisfied with it.
Very easy to install, no fingerprint, no glare.
Get the cheapest top rated ones you can find on amazon. I was tempted to buy an expensive one, glad I didn't. I got 6 cheap ones for £3. First one went on perfectly, it's not even scratched up, but when it does, there are 5 more to easily replace it with. Not necessary to spend tons on these, you end up paying for the brand.
I'm happy with my SGP Ultra Optics protector. Since you're in the States shipping will be negligible as well. It's a dry install, I've even removed it, and put it back on to get the alignment perfect without issue.
I've tried two "wet install" protectors: Zagg (Invisible Shield) and Ishieldz, both were not even remotely worth the cost and it results in phone downtime to ensure that everything is dried out after the install. Of the two Ishieldz was the better.
Im surprised nobody mentioned InvisibleShield or iShieldz. I personally believe they provide superior protection (especially the InvisibleShield, check out the videos section of their website).
Both come with LIFETIME warranty.
EDIT: Oops, didnt read the post above me. But I've NEVER had any issue with applying InvisibleShield or iShieldz. I had an invisible shield on my X10 and was able to take keys the the screen without any damage at all and installation was a breeze. I currently have an iShieldz on my SGSII.
I prefer wet installs to dry as it is much easier to make sure everything is lined up straight before finalizing the process.

I use SGP ultra optic. it's the best!
I have been using SGP GLAS for a week and love it. Since it's real glass, it feels like there is nothing there. In fact, it has a smoother feel than the touchscreen glass.
Installation instructions must be followed explicitly, but once installed, it's great.
It's pricy at 32USD$, but worth the investment in my view.
is there actually a difference between those cheap no-name ones you can buy for $1, and branded ishield/skinomi/whatever?

Just to add to this; when I ordered my SGP case it came with an Ultra Crystal protector, I also ordered the Ultra Optics protectors. Was time for a screen protector change so I installed the Ultra Crystal since it was all I had left. Not pleased at all, magnified finger prints, but more importantly touch sensitivity was awful. Of the two Ultra Optics is much, much better, it just doesn't look as crystal clear and shiny as the Ultra Crystal one.
Put on a Belkin protector today, sensitivity is back. It has a similar optical quality and finish to the Ultra Crystal, hopefully it doesn't show finger prints as easily. It's not as custom cut as the SGP protectors however; the hole for the home button is open at the bottom rather than surrounding the button.
EDIT:
Belkin = fingerprint hell. Touch sensitivity was markedly better, but finger print residue was WORSE than the Ultra Crystal; so bad that it was hard to view the screen. I just tore the bloody thing off.
Sgp oleophpbic. I use the ultra crystal and after. 3 months I have to search for marks and even then barely find them. However oil from my fingers is the biggest hassle. I would trade a few scratches for less oil. Sgp ultra capsule is the one to get case wise. Full protection, screenguard included, slim, and no, just no, cheap Amazon screen guards are not the same. At all. Not a bit. Used them and they are a waste of money.

Screen Protector Film Recommendations?

Hello,
Do you recommend Belkin Anti-Glare Screen protector for SGS2? (if you have used it) If not, which screen protector do you recommend? The most important thing for me: It nearly shouldn't have any affect on touch screen sensitivity.
Thanks.
You see im in the camp of whats the point of a screen protector, adding another layer to screen. I just use a cheap clam flip case to keep the screen safe. Only just had S2 but never had a screen protector on my sgs for over year and never got a mark on it

I'm using a basic silicon case. Flip cases are protecting well but having a flap hanging around while using the phone is a little bit annoying for me. I want to use it because, Gorilla Glass screen is just scratch resistant, not scratch-proof. There are many people reporting scratches after just daily use. Also Anti-Glare films making the screen easier to slide, especially in games like Fruit Ninja

I will write about it.
I have tried the SGP ultra oleophobic, and this worked well for 2 weeks, but after that it would start to attract oil, ... the opposite of what it was supposed to do, the plus side is that it doesn't have tint and the screen looks good. I am now going to try the Halo screen protector. Let us know how you screen protector turns out.
I really like the one that comes with the otterbox for the S2.
it's easy to put on and fits perfectly!
hope this helps
Definitely Zagg invisibleSHIELD.
I couldn't find them locally either. GMarket was the only place I could find them online, I split the cost of shipping with a few other people from XDA.

zagg is a good brand/product ... but the invisible shield, like chrisjcks said, is not smooth which affect the touch response cause of that tacky feel of it
Received the 3M Estoc screen protector today. It's quite solid, and enables you to 'buff out' minor scratches & dings on the protector. This is due to a coating on the protector itself that obviously wears away over a period of time. It comes with a 49873 page encyclopedia with instructions on how to fit (due to having instructions in 192 different languages). The package contains the protector itself, a microfibre cleaning cloth, a cardboard thingy to smooth out the bubbles when you fit the protector and a few dust removal stickers.
Fitting was no more difficult or different to any other screen protector, just a case of making sure the screen is perfectly clean/free of dust, then slowly/carefully applying it to the screen & smoothing out the bubbles as you go.
This is a good protector if you're using a bumper case & don't have your screen covered, it will easily handle being in a pocket with other items & should protect the screen quite well. It will probably last at least a couple of months (maybe more, depending on how rough you are with your phone) if you use your phone like this. As I use a flip case, it will probably be good for much longer than this, as the face of the phone won't be exposed to the lining of pockets, keys, loose change, etc, etc.
Now to the question of value. Is it worth the ~$25 or so ? Compared to the $15 protector I had on my phone previously, and given I use a flip case which protects the screen anyways, probably not. I doubt I'll be spending another $25 on one of these when it comes time to get a new screen protector.
But if you're someone who uses bumper cases/etc & likes having a 'nudie' screen, I'd definitely recommend these. Obviously if you only order one from GMarket the shipping will make it a fairly expensive exercise, but you could always order more than one/some other stuff from that site, or find someone on XDA to go dutch on the postage who lives in your country like I did (thanks to Victaaaa for same )
The Zagg invisibleSHIELD is the best in my opinion, uses a fluid that facilitates the placement may be withdrawn and placed if things do not go well the first time, this has the orange peel effect but this in no way affects the image or touch . I used it in the first SGS for 1 year and now I'm using it in SGSll about 8 months.
i recommend sgp ultra crystal too...i am using for 5 months and i have no problem at all...fully satisfied.
Thanks for all recommendations. I couldn't have any time to buy one yet; but I hope I'm going to buy this weekend from a store near here. I'm going to buy Belkin, if I can't find it I will prefer SGP or Zagg.

I use SGP Ultra Crystal and so far so good.
Zagg is probably the worse of all of them because of its tacky-ness. Also its scratch healing properties wear off after a month or so. The best is the 3M Estoc+ followed by SGP or RG Japan.

Video Review: SGP/Spigen Curved Crystal Screenshield

Hey fellas,
Finally got my hands on the SGP Curved Crystal for the Galaxy S3. This is a full coverage screen protector similar to the Tridea True Shield, but I quickly realized this is a better product. Installation was very simple and the results are incredible! Fit and finish is fantastic, covering the whole display and only having cutouts for the speaker, home button and front facing camera. Clarity is great as well, although it shows a little fingerprinting on it. For my personal use, this is terrific and I highly recommend you watch the video below and see if it's a fit for you!

What about the scratches ? Does it scratch like the SGP Ultra Nano Clear ?
So what is the right screen protector if you are using a TPU case?

Not as bad as it, no. They are mostly hairline scratches. Some users reported that theirs 'dented' if you pushed your nails into it too hard, although I haven't experienced that problem.

You'll be fine with mostly ANY other screen protector, seeing as they aren't made for full coverage.
Great review, would you happen to know if the screen protector would have any problem with the SGP Neo Hybrid? I'm guessing it shouldn't since they're both SGP products. I'm looking for a screen that offers full screen protection so I might end up picking this up or the glas.t that they have up for sale.

Nope - it works perfect! As a matter of fact, I'm using that combo right now.
Dents?
I'm wondering how it will hold up a few days from now, please keep us updated! The denting problem seems pretty common, though.

I've had the shield on for 10 days or so and I haven't experienced a wide-spread issue with the denting, this may be just because my nails are cut very short. However, when I read the issues some were having, I decided to purposely try and dent the screenshield and see if any blemishes would be permanent or if they would disappear. Most screen protectors have self-healing properties and this one did the same for the forced dents I created. Seems any permanent dents would come from applying extreme pressure to the shield.
Would an Otterbox work or is it like a TPU case and cause peeling?

anyone recommend a screen protector and bumper?

Got myself a Google nexus 5 (used to use iPhone), does anyone can recommend me some gadget for nexus 5.
I absolutely love my cruzer lite bugdroid case. v Perfect in every way. Thin, durable, easy to put on, looks great, has a lip, and all ports are easily accesable. I can also tell you not to get the ismooth screen protectors. Mine has tons of scratches on it after a month of normal use.
I am currently using the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case, with a Spigen crystal screen protector. It protects well, and does not add much bulk.
Case: http://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Japanese-Protector-Graphics-Anti-Scratch/dp/B00FJJ38HY (comes with crystal screen protector)
Screen protector: http://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Protec...D6/ref=pd_bxgy_cps_text_y/183-3051436-7253342
BTW, the screen protector is plastic, but is smooth and applies well.
Thanks guys,
I think spigen case looks great (just bought it)! but for screen protector, I found there is brand called rhino shield, looks really awesome, have you guys heard this?
Personally I'm a fan of wet apply protectors. I have used Xtremeguard for a while. They seem to last forever as they are soft and seem akin to trying to scratch jello which just absorbs and reforms. The only difference i find is that they have an almost tacky feel. You become used to this quite quickly,IMO.
Personally i have always used spigens products their re-release of their glas line sp's work exactly like they shold have in the beginning. Case wise you cant go wrong with spigen imo, as for SP if you want dry apply it really depends on how much you want to spend and what you want from teh sp, i cant stand wet apply sps they have a tendency to give an orange peel effect and have a tacky almost rubbery feeling no where near as pleasant to use as the PET dry apply let alone the tempered glass (which feel as if you have nothing on the phone) ive not heard anything specifically about rhinoshield but take a look aroudn the forum and search around i rmr there being several threads talking about rhino shield, i dont recall what they were or what they said or id link you to em.
- cheers
I'm using the SGP crystal hard surface screen protector without using any case :good:
SGP or xtremeguard screen protectors.
