Different Data Icons - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What do the different data icons mean in the notification bar? So far I've seen H, E, 3G & G. I can't remember if there were any others but I know for sure those. Any idea what they mean and why they are constantly changing?

They are different network states, click the links for a detailed explanation of what they all mean.
H= HSPA
3G = 3G
E = EDGE
G = GPRS

Anyone know of a widget to switch between 3G and 2G? I hate having to trawl through the settings menus.

It's not possible. Even the widgets on the market will direct you to the settings screen to make the adjustment

switchpro widget should do it mate got few other things on it aswell
There's one by curve-fish that'll take you to that menu, but i don't like the logo much. Search on the market-place, and you should find some apps.
Great app available
There is one in the Market place that just does in one click.
Search for "3G Toggle"
App name : Toggle data Widget

thanks for the advice guys, I'll check them out

[Q] Configure Wifi and Cell signal in Zooper

Hello,
I'm novice on Zooper Widget and I try to configure it.
I want to have the bitmap of a wifi signal when its on. So I put an icon of a wifi signal and I go to advanced paremeters and choose #NWSTATE#.
The problem is that when the wifi is off a want to have an oder icon or that the wifi icon I choose disapear. Its possible to do that and how ?
Thank you for your help guys.
I know what you want to do is possible because there is a widget for Zooper on Google Play that does it. The wifi and signal icons are embedded in it so they are hard to use independently, but they prove its possible. Its called camera bar or something like that...
You can eliminate all the other elements from that 4x2 widget and expand just the signal icons.
If that isn't a solution try these two alternatives....
I have mine set up to display the text WIFI, HSPA(or whatever the connection type is for mobile data), or nothing if no data is present.
I used this equation. (wifi is dominant. It shows WIFI if there is wifi and mobile data)
$#NWSTATE#>0?WiFi$$#NDATAON#>#NWSTATE#Y?#NCCONN#$
Text and bitmaps are set up different, buy maybe this can help you figure out the bitmap answer. Or just switch to using words instead of icons and the above equation is your answer.
I also used the progress bar feature to create a cell signal bars thing.( Though each bar is the same height.) You could make something like that instead of using an icon and have the color for unused bars be clear so they are invisible.
Thank you man. I Willie try this.

Just one more question I found an Icon for the wifi signal and for the mobile data I use the text (HSPA, EDGE, Etc.). I have to put the equation in each ? Or just in Wifi or Mobile data ?
Thanks
Can anyone tell me how I can display network signal in progress bar ??

[Q] Replacing/theme spark statusbar icon?

So ive searched google and on here and i have not found either an xposed module or framework modification to alter the spark icon. I just hate how my status bar is half way taken up by all of my active things. Id like a simple LTE notification.
Also is there an xposed module where I can alter icons individually? Ive been using xStana and Wanam, but the xStana seems to only let you choose preloaded themes and its all or nothing - where Wanam lets me make simple changes like hide certain things (unfortunately not the AM/PM for the clock) and change the typeface and color but thats about it.
Any insight would be appreciated. im rather new to Xposed and all it can do.

I searched for a convenient method to do this a while ago and came up empty. I hope you have better luck than I did.

Isn't there a build.prop edit to change the carrier to fix this?

CREDIT TO @dc/dc!!!
For those like me that hate our stupid American network indicators, build.prop can be edited to show the international (and I would argue, most accurate) icons. I do not intend to create a flashable ZIP or anything like that as the manual method is actually quicker and easier.
These instructions assume you're rooted and have made a backup of your original file.
1. Open Root Explorer
2. Navigate to /system/
3. Hold on build.prop and select "Open in Text Editor"
4. Select Yes to open as RW
5. Modify the two lines shown below (replace "tmo" with "can"):
6. Save and exit
7. Reboot
Icons will now appear as below:
In case you're interested, here is the correlation to normal American icons:
1. 4G = LTE, usually shown as some silly little icon that says 4GLTE
2. H and H+ = HSPA (3.5G) and HSPA+ (3.75G) this is also known as 4G in America, but it is not 4G per the ITU
3. E = EDGE (2.5G or 2.75G depending on class)
If there were a standard UMTS network near me, I'd imagine that there would also be a 3G icon, but all of T-Mobile's UMTS network is overlaid with at least HSPA. Also, unlike the change to the Sprint icons, this change does not introduce any weird CDMA menus in mobile network settings.

If you change the last 3 to att, spr, vzw you will also get the icons.
@siraltus
A more elegant (LTE is actually LTE) solution is to add the following line to /system/csc/features.xml instead:
OYC
This gives you standard LTE/H+/H/E/G icons so you don't have to guess what's what.
EDIT: Changed OYA to OYC which gives you LTE/H+/H/E/G icons.

Thanks, but by changing the device name, wouldn't this limit some of the apps available in the play store? Or maybe cause issues when downloading roms through apps like goo manager?

You forgot to quote the actual parameter line to add to the XML file... what you quoted is just the value. Also, no need to include my edit comment.

I tried it and it did work. The only problem is when on 4g, the up and down indicators fall ontop of the 4g icon.
Yeah, a build.prop edit will fix it much like how I got the spark icon on my Note 3 by changing the model to the Sprint Galaxy S5 model.

[MOD][ROOT] Change Your Status Bar LTE Indicator

Since this is the International model, you are getting the standard international icons:
3G data icon for 3G/HSPA+
4G data icon for both 4G & LTE data connectivity
but you may prefer to have the true LTE indicator shown which is standard on US specific devices
To enable the LTE data icon instead of the generic 4G one on the status bar, edit the default.xml file located in:
/system/customize/ACC
change the following line from true to false
so it should be:
<item type="boolean" name="show_4g_for_lte">false</item>
reboot to see fix
Thanks
Thanks. I can confirm this works.

I don't use xposed as it fails the safety pass test.
