[Q] Help! Stuck on white HTC screen after installing root! - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

So I installed CWM recovery, and installed the rmk root setup zip. Before I installed it, I wiped the cache but not the Dalvik cache. When I rebooted, it hung on the white HTC screen. I went back into recovery and wiped dalvik cache, cache and even data and settings, then installed the zip again and it still hangs. can somebody help me? Honestly at this point I just want to be able to use my phone again.
Thanks in advance

Did you install the root zip that included the froyo stock kernel? I made the same mistake. Just have to adb a compatible 2.3 kernel into your sdcard and flash it.

i'm pretty sure this is the zip i used. if thats what you're talking about, then how do I fix it?

You cant use that .zip because it uses the Froyo kernal which is incompatible. You have to push jcase's GB kernal to your sd card then flash that.

I'm sorry for the stupid question, and thank you so much for your help, but where can i find that? and what commands do I use to push the kernel to the phone?

Have no fear as long as you can get into CWM then you are still good.
How long does it hang, sometimes it takes a few minutes for that HTC screen to go away, especially if you wiped data. you might want to wait, a little bit.
You can always download a stock rom(jcase plainjane rom), get into CWM, and then mount your USB to be able to install from your computer, and then flash the new rom.
Did you make a backup before you flashed the update, you can always recover.

If you can get into CWM, look for Mounts/Storage and mount your USB so you can access your Phones SD card from your computer, then transfer the file from your computer to your phone.
or use adb if you are familiar with that.

you did get S-Off first right?

yes i have s-off, no i did not make a recovery (i wasnt aware i could do that before i rooted but i have come to terms with the fact that I lost a bunch of data).
okay, so i put the file on my sd card and... what? is it a zip file? where can i find it?
just so i understand, once I get this rooted kernel, i will be rooted and i will be able to install the cwm app and go from there?

and i don't necessarily want the stock rooted... i guess i could go from there but for right now could i download a 2.3 kernel with a different rom? are kernels bundled with roms or do i need to install them separately?
sorry, i'm a new user so i keep having to wait 5 minutes...

Kernels, can be rom specific or bundled but currently for the dinc2 there arent a lot so make sure it doesnt say it belongs to a specific rom otherwise it might not work.
Jcase has a stock kernel and rom he put up a while back for gingerbread.
They will be a .zip file and all you have to do is using recovery choose zip file and run it, since you already deleted everything.
When you install a rom, it will add su and busybox, and root your phone. You need your phone rooted to be able to do anything, after S-off.
if you have recovery installed then you have CWM and really what you want is Rom Manager to do backups.

can i flash the tiamat kernel? do i still have an OS? will that fix things?

tiamat kernel is an AOSP kernel. for CM7/MIUI/OM(F)GB
you'll get bootloops if you flash it on a sense rom.

so should i flash that, then flash something like MIUI? can i do that? and do i have to wipe data/cache/dalvik before the kernel AND before i install MIUI?
thanks

I would get a Rom working first which is your OS, the kernel jut says how it should run.

but apparently i have a froyo kernel installed right now? how should I fix that?

If you install a new rom, it will overwrite whatever kernel you have, so you might just want to install this....

this is the first gingerbread rom i used...not a lot to it.

I'll try that thank you so much! i just have to go to "install zip from sd card" once i put it on my sd card?

[Q] HELP G2 stuck at htc screen

help my g2 is stuck at the htc screen. i perm rooted it with s off and tried to overclock it. i went into clockwork mod recovery and installed the zip files g2 fast? now when i turn it on it goesd to htc screen and then it reboots at htc screen and reeats.
so you flashed a kernel? Was that kernel compatible with whatever rom you are using? Did you take a nandroid backup before hand?
no i didnt backup, i thought i did but apparently i didint.
He's right, that kernel is not compatible with the stock ROM. The best thing to do now is to take out the sd card and put it in a card reader. You just need to download a custom ROM to it so you can flash it. I think if you try to do a factory reset your phone will lose root, but I could be wrong. If you want to return to a stock ROM, search the forums. There are stock ROMs that have been "rooted" so to say. This may have been a blessing in disguise because custom ROMs blow away stock!
ok and how would i do this? i did a factory reset and everything. i think its rooted cause it has the clockwork mod recovery. should i try returning it?

Do you know how to take out the sd card? Also, do you have a card reader on your computer?
yes and i dont have a card reader but i can mount the sd card to the computer.
You don't even have to do that. All you have to do is boot into recovery. Mount the SD card and copy over a kernel that is compatible with the stock rom. Then flash the new kernel and you're all set. I'm sure the stock kernel is floating around here some where.

You do it the same way you did the g2 fast kernel.
install the zip? where do i find the stock rom or whatever?
Well you're going to have to use the search button for that one. Check the G2 sticky thread. You need either a stock kernel or stock rom compatible kernel. You could also skip this whole endeavor and just flash the latest CM7 rom from recovery. If you do flash a new rom then it is highly recommended to do a data wipe meaning anything you had done on the phone will be cleared.
found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836042
im installing it at the moment i type. we'll see what happens.
it worked! thanks alot guys. i just wish i didnt do the factory reset. also would the phone still be rooted?
Yes, and if/when you decide to flash a custom rom, find out if it has an oc kernel included. CM roms are using pershoots 1.5Ghz UV kernels currently. If you want to use G2fast, you will need to flash that kernel after the rom, and slowly clock up to see how far you can run stable. I advise paying for SetCPU to monitor your OC as well.
HTC Vision 1.8 OC, CM7 RC1==HAPPY!!

I'm really not sure what exactly you were trying to accomplish, as unrevoked provides full root. What root method were you trying to follow?
Anyways, now you need to flash a PC36IMG of a recovery image,.using the bootloader. I'd link you to one, but I'm on the Xda app. Once you get recovery flashed, you can reflash a rom of your choice.

It was the semi root one, im pretty sure cause my evo wouldnt let me run some FULL root access apps like titanium back up and such, how would i flash a recovery image? my phone is stuck at the htc evo 4g boot screen, i can get to the bootloader and it trys (everytime) to to install the PC36IMG and it doesnt work :/
What was the PC36IMG you tried to flash? And where did you try to flash it - the bootloader or recovery? You're saying that it didn't flash successfully, correct?
If all you need is your recovery back and everything is fine, you just need to flash Clockwork again. You can do this through the bootloader or by downloading Rom Manager and choosing "flash ClockworkMod Recovery".
If you want/need to flash through the bootloader, first delete the PC36IMG on your SD card then download the one of CWM that I'll link you to. Put it on the root of your SD card and power down the phone. Boot into the bootloader by holding the volume down button and power button simultaneously. It should check for the PC36IMG and ask you to update. Choose yes, then no when it asks you to reboot. Choose recovery from the menu and you should boot into ClockworkMod. If you don't need to do anything recovery related, just choose to reboot from there.

Sorry, I missed the action. I was typing on my phone and cleaning at the same time
If your phone won't boot, you'll need to wipe cache, dalvik cache and data then flash a new rom. You can try just wiping cache and dalvik then rebooting to see if that will help, but it probably won't.
EDIT: It could've been that you needed busybox and you really were fully rooted. Did the bootloader say s-off before all of this? If it did, you've been nand unlocked all along.

Ok I have the Clockwordmod working thank you, Phone still wont boot, Im guessing cause it Doesnt have a rom to boot, Idk how to install roms either sadly .
So I think I need a rom to install from zip, but idk how to get a rom thats worth trying to install, last time i tried to install it cam up with :
"Amend Scripting is no longer supported"
"Please switch to edify scripting"
-Steps into the fray-
1. Place the attached file on your sdcard, then boot into the bootloader [vol+down while phone is booting up] let it scan, the apply update., reboot, reboot into recovery and you'll be on amon_ra 2.3 You got the error cuz CWM 3.0+ doesn't support amend scripting [old], only supports edify [new].
As for a rom, I'd recommend CM7.
> http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=supersonic download a version from there
> http://goo-inside.me/gapps/latest/7/universal/ download the gapps here
In recovery, wipe your factory/data, cache, and dalvik. Install rom, select the CM7 you downloaded, go back, wipe cache and dalvik, then flash the gapps, then reboot.
Ok Following the latest post's steps and I'm Installing cm7 now thank you people so much for the help so far, ill let you know if everything goes well.
Never a problem, were you in good hands long before I got here.

[Q] Need help with CM7

So im planning to go back to 2.1 or 2.2 and sense, so how im going to do this? ( I have #203 Nightly)

Just install like a new ROM. One such stock rooted Froyo can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877977
The only different thing is that this will have to be flashed in Clockworkmod 2.x. (I guess you must know how to flash Radio's in CM7, so its not a big issue)
And yes, to OC, you will have to install a custom kernel like this one:

I got a problem. I want to get original Sense by restoring backup from CWM. Mine works, but has a pattern that i dont remember and a email wich i dont remember either. Does anyone happen to have a backup of a wildfire without password or could someone advice something else? I tried RUU but my win7 x64 is causing trouble, or the drivers.
Just flash the stock froyo ROM I listed in the first post I made in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877977). If you don't know how to get Clockworkmod 2.5.0.x, then:
- Download this attachment, place on your SDCard:

- Flash the zip (update1.zip) using your existing Clockworkmod 5.0.2.0
- Device will reboot and will start Clockworkmod 2.5.0.7
- Perform Data Wipe and Choose Install Zip from SDCard, select the ROM Zip file, and let it install.

Can someone answer a question regarding jellybean?

I installed this yesterday jb-takju.zip. I was originally on cm9 rc1. In the process I managed to wipe my entire directory, nandroid backups included. I tried to get cwm back via fastboot and was able to then flashed CWM-SuperSU-v0.89.zip to get root right after. Now besides losing all my data, I cant keep the cwm touch recovery on, it keeps going back to the default recovery screen when I try to boot into recovery from rom manager. So at this point I'm baffled, not used to not have an sd card.
How can I have avoided this? How does titanium backup work with dropbox I couldnt get that set up. Also should I be flashing a different version of JB?
I didn't loose all any data on sdcard but was losing car. I ended up using the xbigie version. That was decided,rooted....

You must mean the virtual sdcard which I dont even see in my directories.
Can anyone tell me why I keep losing cwm touch recovery at least? lol

Not acceptable, I already lost all my nandroid backups so I might as well use available JBs and start fresh
You're losing your cust recovery because there is a script you need to delete that auto installs default recovery on every reboot. It should be named the same as it was in ICS when the phone first came out. I'm look for the exact name now unless someone beats me to it.
Edit: /system/recovery-from-boot.p is the file. Rename or delete. Then it should stop reloading stock recovery. Just make sure you have CWM installed already and you're good to go.

[Q] How to go from 4.0.3 Jedi Mind Trick to Cyanogenmod 10.0.0 Stable Release

Hello all just bought a new Samsung Galaxy SII from craigslist already rooted with 4.0.3 Jedi Mind Trick. After reading for what seems 4-5 hours i have been trying to put together how to properly without bricking switching it to 10.0.0 Stable as i use to use Cyanogenmod 2-3 years ago on my devices. Seem alot of things have changed and there is a cluster**** of stuff out there now. If you could direct me to a how to or show me how to do it i would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks all!
Assuming you have nothing personal to back up that you can't just download from google play or your google account again: download cyanogen 10 and it's gapps. reboot into recovery mode. factory reset, wipe data, wipe system, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. pick the install zip from sd card or so option, browse to cyanogen, then install gapps the same way. wipe dalvik again and reboot.
I was thinking of doing this myself JMT to CM10. I didn't think there was anything special to do same as flashing from any other ROM to CM10. If there is a special requirement I would think they'd post in in with the ROM post information.

honestly - i backed up everything to my external and then formatted the internal when i went from TW to AOSP for the last time. well worth it. nice folder clean up and then you can just manually take all the stuff you want back.
and you should just be able to odin on cwm or twrp - then flash the rom of your choice.

If you get stuck at the boot logo, it's called a soft brick. You don't have to use ODIN or go back to ICS. Just make sure the ROM zip you downloaded isn't corrupt (check the size/m5d if possible), wipe everything, and reboot into recovery to try installing again.

You won't fail. Follow the guidelines step by step. Print it out, make notes. Anything. Read. The step by step guide works... that'll get you with cwm. Then, you can flash the zip you will put on your phone... either a SU zip or just a rooted ROM. Follow flashing instructions.
Just realized - you'll be way better off if, once you have cwm on, just format the internal ONCE YOU HAVE A ROM ON AN EXTERNAL SD CARD. then flash CM10. THEN you'll have a fresh AOSP install.

Please excuse my harshness but this is not as hard as many make it seem. I would say if it takes you more than a couple attempts maybe it is just not for you. I only say this because I would hate to see you mess up your phone. Now if you think a bootloop is a brick then we need to do things at a slower pace with you.
If you already have your phone rooted then
1.download goomanager from the playstore and then
2.open it up and allow it to grant permission from CM
3.hit menu button while goo manager is open
4.click on install OpenRecoveryScript
5.let it do its thing
6.reboot into your new TWRP recovery

I had a bootloop when using CWM v6.0.1.5. So a friend of mine told me he had success with CWM v6.0.1.5 Touch. So I switched to the touch recovery and... SUCCESS.
Here's the link to CWM touch and non-touch:

A boot loop could mean a bad download or bad flash but it is most definitely NOT a bricked device. All you needed to do was get a fresh download and move it to your SD card by mounting it in recovery. Then, wipe EVERYTHING but the SD. EVERYTHING. Then flash the ROM, Gapps and whatever radio. I go from CM to AOKP to other random TW roms all the time and never have issues.
The 2 best recoveries are twrp or my favorite because I'm used to it is cwm 6.0.1.5. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844637
Also if your phone boot loops don't freak out' just either reboot to see if that works out first and if not reboot into recovery. Also with these new recoveries do not use dark side scripts.
Factory reset
Format system
Format cache
Format data
Flash ROM
Flash gapps
Reboot and enjoy

Sorry for the necro on the thread, but I didn't want it to be stated I didn't look around some either.
I am going from JMT to CM and want to make sure it's as seamless as possible. I use CWM and usually usually use darkside complete wipes, but I read in a previous post not to use darkside. Is there a reason for this? I can't see why this wouldn't work as it's just a wipe.
Also I use Titanium Backup. Is it possible to backup my apps and data and restore them since its not TW any longer? I want to be able to restore as much of my data as possible and make sure I don't lose it.
P.S. - If thread necroing is not appreciated, I apologize.
