[Q] Bluetooth file transfer with Windows 7 - Defy General

With Windows 7 I am unable to transfer/receive files over bluetooth with Defy. Have tested with Windows XP it works fine. If anyone have a solution for this please share.
Note:- Mods - I couldn't find any topic specific to this issue hence created a new thread. If required please merge it.

Try bluetooth file transfer app from market. Although both native pair and using this app work for me in Win7 sometimes i have to use the app ^ to get things going. Also delete your pc from bluetooth settings, delete the device from device manager in win7, try to pair them again. As win7 has so many issues with drivers, it's a common error. Also make sure the bluetooth adaptor driver (if any came with it) is installed properly /last version and not some Win7 generic driver instead.
Hope i helped and it works.

I too have some issues with the bluetooth. The speed seems to be very slow. Also when sending multiple files most of them fail. I've tried sending files to different phones. Same issue.

Usb tether on aosp win xp

Hi all. Hey, can anyone give concise instructions for usb tether on aosp using Win XP?
I know you need a tetherxp.ini file. Turns out, I actually had that file floating around in my sd from some tinkering a long time ago. So I dropped the tetherxp file on my pc. But when I try the usb tether, windows wizard prompts me to find that file, but then wont seem to let me point to it or select it.
Just wondering what im doing wrong. Im back on sense now, cuz I really rely on usb tether, but would like to use aosp sometimes, too.
If anyone could help, I'd much, much appreciate it. (And yes, I have searched and googled already - just havebt found anything particularly helpful). Thanks.

Sorry, but...bump.
Not totally an impatient asshole, but am kinda surprised no one is familiar with this issue, or posting.
Been an xda member since '08, and this is only my 2nd thread, and have tried to help many.

built in usb tether in cmsettings should automatically on xp
The tether settings under Wireless and Networks, and the drivers should be in HTC sync, or the Android SDK. One of the two.
You guys are both incorrect. When USB tethering to win XP (specifically), from aosp. you have to have the terherxp.inf file.
Android even gives you a prompt saying you need it, but the instructions aren't clear at all.
Anyone familiar, please post. Thanks.
Thanks for the effort though.
@drmaycinasha
I already have the necessary file, just can't seem yo 'browse' to it. Thanks though

I'm assuming that these are the exact steps that you've tried?
Download the following configuration file (tetherxp.inf) to your Windows XP computer. Typically, you can right-click on the link and choose “Save As”. (If your browser appends .html to the file name, you will need to edit the name to remove the .html extension.)
Use the USB cable that came with your phone to connect your phone to your computer.
On the Android phone, press Home, press Menu, and touch Settings to open the Settings application.
Touch Wireless & networks > Tethering & portable hotspot.
Check USB tethering.
When Windows XP’s New Hardware Wizard opens, select No, not at this time and click Next.
Select Install from a list or specific location and click Next.
Click Browse to browse to the directory where you installed the configuration file you downloaded in Step 1 and click Next. Windows XP uses the configuration file to configure itself to support USB tethering with the Android phone.
When Windows XP finishes installing the software for Android USB Ethernet/RNDIS, click Finish.

Yeah how do you do this? None of th HTC or Google drivers work on XP. XP finds a device called "Android Phone". It works automatically on Windows 7 but not XP.

[Q] Problem bluetooth pc - desire connection

Hi!
I have a problem with the bluetooth connection on my Desire. First things first:
- I use the MIUI rom
- I have a Win7 x64 laptop with Intel 1030 adapter for wifi and bluetooth
- Driver on my laptop is the generic microsoft bluetooth driver, i cannot find any other driver.
- I want to use the program "unified remote" over bluetooth to control xbmc on my laptop.
Problems:
- I can find the Desire with the laptop and succesfully pair the device.
- After completing the initial pairing, the windows wizard tells me that it will try to find additional drivers.
- I can pair but not "connect" to the laptop. In fact I cannot use the connection to do anything.
Is there anyone who has a solution for this problem? If I have to change rom, no problem, because I really want this to work. Eternal gratitude will be your share!
chances are that your current rom doesn't support bluetooth yet. check the thread on xda for whatever rom you are using, and see if it says whether or not bluetooth is working yet.

[Q] Wildfire s usb_drive / Device not found

Hey guys
I specialy registered to this forum for my next question/problem.
First of all, I'm using Wildfire s, 2.3.7, CyanogenMod-7.2.0-RC1-marvel.KANG + i'm using Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
I was trying to install
"[Tool] Android Screencast 0.4 (open-source)"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=557717
But when i connect my htc to pc with usb debugging it fails to install the driver. I've downloaded many usb_drivers from all over internet and tried to install them manually using device manager but it doesn't seem to work.
Finly i found the "HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe and it worked on other computer (Win7). when i tried to install it in win 8 it gives an error telling that Driver installer in not supported for this OS. tried to run in capatibility mod but no luck.
Also tried to modify the usb_driver files "android_winusb" my adding lines in end etc.. still didn't work.
usually i don't ask help from any forum rather i google things and read other ppl posts. which worked.... until now So now i'm asking for help at this topic, i've been through almost every post in xda telling about Device not found, without any luck there eith.
If needed it's possible to remote controll my pc with teamviewer.
Help is really appreciated.
ps. device manager shows that yellow attention mark.
TEMP FILES / Extract .msi~
I got it work myself after all.
If you need help to install the device, mail me.
[email protected]
why not just post the answer?
had trouble getting drivers for windows 8 64 to work when trying to flash ruu update. could not find drivers online or a thread on xda, eventually downloaded the google drivers from sdk, and they worked perfectly after manually installing them for the android phone and then again for the android 1.0 device when it boots to hboot.

I tried 4 different devices and also I tried using different device with other operating system like Symbian and BB but still not accepting any file transfer.
That's odd. What kind of file are you trying to transfer? Sometimes I notice it's picky on the type of file it accepts but not all files
I'm trying to transfer an apk file because I'm not connected to wifi at the moment. Trying to get a file manager to install apps. After I encountered problem with the apk file, I tried sending mp3 and videos but no luck. is there anything that I need to do? I tried reflashing the Rom but still have the same issue.

Mac File Transfer

For some reason I can''t use Android File Transfer with my HTC One M8 - It just doesn't appear. The phone goes into MTC mode and says USB Connected, but ATP gives me the "No android device found" error?
Anyone else had the same error or have any other mac workarounds?
I can't stand HTC Sync Manager ...
I ran into the same problem yesterday.
All I could find on the internet was a post advising to reboot with the phone plugging in. That seemed to work but it was only a temporary fix. And a review mentioning the problem , that HTC had acknowledged it and that a fix was expected in late April.

FYI to everyone.. This is a Sense Only problem. MTP works fine on GPE ROMs. As a workaround, if you want to keep Sense, use AirDroid or something similar to transfer files to your phone via WiFi.
This was already asked in Q/A subforum -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714671
Here's my response :-
You will need ROOT and app called "DriveDroid"
Download Android File Manager - http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
Open DriveDroid app, give it root access and under its settings, change USB or Permanent USB mode to "Mass Storage Android Debugging"
Connect to OSX and open the Android File Manager app on OSX... next time you wont need to open it manually, it will open everytime you connect the phone.
This might break connection to HTC Sync though
(I use the above for my iMac)

I think it's not a solution, wifi transfer is really slow with big files. Plus, I own a nexus 7 and MTP is not that great either.

I did see that, but I don't want to root it just yet.
I thought there must be a simple native solution, but it doesn't look like there is until HTC do a fix!
Moderator information,
Thread moved to Q&A, also I deleted a post. Remember forum rules, swearing and the suggestion of swearing is against forum rules.

Make sure HTC Sync Manager is not installed at all if you want Android File Transfer to work. This has been an issue in the past, although it doesn't sound like the issue here though. I personally don't have a problem using HTC Sync Manager to transfer my files, but if course I can see why people wouldn't want to use it.
I think the reason MTP is such crap on Macs is that Microsoft owns the license for the MTP protocol, and they let everyone use it except Apple, thus making Windows a more appealing OS. Just a theory though...

In http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54035979 I may provide a partial solution; depending on your exact need. Look for the post I sent a few minutes ago. More to come in the next days; I will test other apps, and report.
