[Q] Dead download mirrors - About xda-developers.com

Hi all, n00b so already hate myself. Hoping I've got the right forum, apologies if not.
Excellent, informative site, liking the roll-ups.
Is there any chance of renewing the download locations for ROMs for HTC Diamond phones? Every link leads to a "download no longer available" or "upgrade to pro"-style page at the file site...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415192
My own interest is in ROMs for MDA Compact IV. Maybe it's too old to bother about but thought I'd ask anyway.
Thanks.

For ruus try shipped roms. And this would have been better off in the device q and a

Stealth forum

Why don't we have a Stealth forum in here?
We do, but it has a negative refractive index, it's just that stealthy.
Seriously: I don't think there's been much call for such a thread. slinky.
V
EDIT: PARTIALLY DELETED TO AVOID CONFUSION....... POLICY IS IF IT ISN'T HTC IT ISN'T GOING TO GET A SECTION
I'm for one... Issue is, I think there were many people here looking around for Stealth-related stuff, but left after finding so little info...
I would welcome it as well - xda-developers is well known site and many former users come here...
Kindly excuse my shameless-ness... But... BUMP!!
appreciate it very much if there's a stealth forum. i'm a newbie to the whole wm5 and using stealth. got lots of issues in o2 apps like o2 plus, ezitext and some others, like rom upgrades and the whole shebang.
I will be anther one.
I'm a stealth fanatic too...
yes please!
same here, i use O2 Stealth too..i want WM6 upgrade
i use O2 Stealth too.
me too .....we are not too bad
hi,my friends ... how to upgrade wm6 on my stealth?any idea?
Hi All,
The stealth isn't a HTC phone, at this moment there is no room for non HTC phones on the forum. Sorry..
Best regards,
Flar
Site admin.
But why? The forum is called XDA-developers and it is the O2 XDA Stealth, it doesn't say HTC-developers does it?
O and by the way, isn't the Atom and Stealth produced by the same company, because they are quite simular....?

Our portal page has the following welcome message:
Welcome to xda-developers.com
This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a secretive firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya', 'Blue Angel', 'Wizard' and 'TyTN', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56, Hermes and many, many other names.
Since we develop software for it, we need information, and nobody seemed eager or ready to give us what we needed. So we 'reverse-engineered' the devices, found a lot of information, and shared it with the world. But as our site grew we realised that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from a lack of support. They started using the xda-developers forum to communicate and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developer forum.
We hope that you will enjoy this site and find it as useful as we do. We encourage you to donate or otherwise support this site. Of course absolutely all proceeds from donations will benefit this community.
If you look closely you will also see that not all phones made by HTC have a place on this forum simply because there isn't room to give every phone a forum.
Best regards,
Flar
Site admin.

Im a Stealth user now too. Works well even in the States on Cingular/ATT. It does seem silly to have not even a small section devoted to xda's of all sort on a xda forum site. There is support for phones almost 5 yrs old that get maybe 1 or 2 new posts a month and this phone is only about 1yr old.
Just because O2 and HTC broke ties doesnt mean xda-developers and xda phones should break ties!
I have had a stealth in the past and would have loved to have seen a stealth forum at the time. IMHO i think that xda-dev would benefit greatly with a stealth forum. In fact I think that creating forums for all Non-HTC phones would be a great idea for the PPC community.
lol @ vijay....its just that stealthy

I think the stealth is quite simular to the atom, but which one? (pure/exec/etc.)

HTC Atlas (T-Mobile Wing) forum?

Any plans to add this as a forum for the atlas or does this fall under the wizard category??
WOW........
its the Herald
so anything Atlas/Wing related is exactly as the Herald lol
ANT_C, dont be so hard on the n00bs
thing is if u loook at the sections the herald section all the threads names have wing right in it
First off ANTC I don't appreciate that,
Secondly, I thought this forum was organized by the phone type as listed by HTC (hence HTC Wizard, etc) and HTC I could of sworn was listed as HTC Atlas Anyway thank you for the opne guy who answered respectively and to the other guy, why don't you try some tact.
Oh and at the time of your messege and also right now there is 1 count them 1 whole thread in the first page that says wing. Also I spend (like most users here) my time in the forum of my phone which is the T-Mobile MDA (HTC Wizard). In all fairness it is true I should have looked a little deeper before making this Topic but at the same time making someone feel like crap just because they don't know exactly everything that a Senior Member would know isn't right. It pisses me off about people who do that and it isn't fair. The proper response would have been ''Hey, just to let you know you would have found on a deeper search that it has been filed under the HTC Herald section.'' See how easy that is in comparison?
Oh and ANTC wasn't it me that pointed out YOUR little oversight about 3G when it was supposed to be G3 (folks I am not talking about the 3G network)?
and if this ends now then everyone can get back to working on their phones
Compare a Type-o to missing a whole section...
you didnt even search if you search wing
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=2682635
you'll see a thread for the OS dump of the wing
Just for info
Just for those who are interested in the devices and not in the whining...
The HTC Herald is also known as
HTC P4350
Dopod C800
o2 XDA terra
Vodafone VPA compact IV
T-Mobile Wing
The Herald specific forum can be found here
Thanks Gambit
My pleasure...
is there someone know if the HTC Herald's ROM can flash into T-Mobile Wing? thanks

HTC Vogue/Sprint's Touch by HTC forum?

Sprint launched their version of the HTC Touch, also known as the HTC Vogue. This is a different phone than the HTC Elf.
Will Xda-developers start sub-forums for the Vogue soon?
Seconded!!!
Thirding this, a Vogue subforum would be pretty great. It's probably my next phone.
I just ordered the Sprint Tilt (aka HTC Vogue) yesterday and was thinking the same thing.
My Paypal dollars are ready to be donated if someone gets the gps unlocked

Fourth, holding my Touch right now, it's a beauty. I'll also be more than happy to donate and test anything that gets my gps unlocked.
I'm a happy Kaiser (well,Tilt...) user, but my girlfriend has a Vogue arriving tomorrow, so consider this her vote by proxy.
'me too'

Vogue forum please!
I agree that there should be at least one seperate subforum for this. The device has some features and the looks of a gsm touch, but it's much different from an elf on the inside.
yes new forum for CDMA Touch please. it is a great phone i just switched from the p4000 and am not looking back.
Any love on this front?
Yes new Vogue forum please!!!!
Recent ruling.....could this help??
Yes please consider a new Vogue forum.
This was a result of a recent lawsuit.
Sprint said it will share the unlocking code with all current and former subscribers once their phones are deactivated and their bills are paid. The company also will add information about the locking software and how to obtain the unlocking codes in the list of terms and conditions of service given to new customers, and instruct its customer service representatives on how to connect a non-Sprint phone to the Sprint network.
I plan on getting the Vogue if it can be modified and have programs loaded into its rom. Otherwise I would just get the T Mobile wing. Any suggestions?
Any love on this?
Well, until XDA Developers does something about it, PPCgeeks.com has a pretty good forum
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=48
Even though it says it is for the HTC ELF, it is almost nothing but HTC Vogue/Sprint Touch talk. In fact, someone just posted a ROM unlocker and supposedly, there is going to be a custom ROM posted very soon.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=12255
I was just about to PM a moderator about this to.
Not only are the phones coming available.
Also some roms for these phones are popping up in the ELF threads.
I extracted some of these but there's big (Small actually, just the Pagepool and rom Size) differences and i foresee a lot of people trying to flash them anyway. Resulting in phones that run out of memory in no time.
And to be totally honoust i haven't seen a lot of Moderators popping up in the Elf threads to.
The Elf's grown up. It's getting pretty busy. Just now it's finishing second in Users viewing posts right now. After the Artemis, that has a lot more experienced users. And i won't see the steady band on elf thread jumping to a new Touch version anytime soon.

Not that I am completely in the know or anything, but I would figured that the Radio Rom would be different since the ELF is GSM and the Vogue is CDMA. Also, the chipsets are different. I wouldn't think that either phone's rom would run on the other.

Opinions on the default HTC TYTN WM 6.0 ROM

For the last 2 weeks, I've been reading the forum and waiting delivery on a unlocked/unbranded HTC TYTN with WM 5.0.
It appears the disadvantage of the AT&T release ROMs are speed and bloatware. I haven't seen any comments on the advantages or disadvantages of the official HTC WM 6.0 ROMs versus the cooked 6.0/6.1 ROMs.
Can anyone provide any comments on the official HTC ROMs? Sorry, if I missed it, but, I've been trying to cram as much knowledge as possible about this device and trying to make a decision on a cooked ROM or the official HTC one.
Thanks!

NEW THREAD on Opinions on the default HTC TYTN WM 6.0 ROM
I bet you didn't read anything on the open forums and you just asked your humble question...
GUIDE: on this website there is something called WIKI which has all answers to all Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
I kindly ask the moderators to do 2 important things for our forum to keep it updated:
1- open a new thread and give it the name "SPAQ" (Seldom and Personal Asked Questions) to avoid openning new threads for questions like this one.
2- we have now 258 threads opened for Hermes and that makes searching for a solution never easy unless we delete the dead and inactive threads which exceed the 150 threads... unbelievable, isn't it?
thanks
PS sorry mate, I have nothing against you personally
Wow, it took all of 18 posts to obtain that attitude? I have bookmarked and read over 50 threads. I read the wiki, I read the AT&T HTC forums, I read the Howardforums, Aximsite/MobilitySite, this site and even joined HTC Club.
Many threads, tell you how fast a cooked ROM is or what apps are in the ROM, I don't see anyone saying anything about the performance of the default HTC ROMs besides AT&T ROMs stink. I haven't seen any threads on why some people actually prefer the default to cooked ROMs or vice versa.
Nothing against you, but if searching for a solution is never easy for a savvy veteran like yourself, what makes you think every visitor or new member will find exactly what they are looking for? Even in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=390603&page=4, you mentioned sticking to the default HTC ROM, you didn't go into details? If you would have just given the reasons why you picked the default ROM, that would have been extremely helpful, instead you assume I'm lazy and went on your soapbox.
I hope you gain some tolerance by your 25th post.
Cheers
I've been running the default 6.0 since November. I've been thinking of going to a cooked 6.0 or 6.1 ROM but have not taken the plunge. I have yet to see one thread regarding any that did not have several "It HR every XXXX days/hrs/min etc.. "
As of now I've had my share of lockups but nothing that a soft reset did not fix. While the AT&T 6.0 may be full of bloat it is the most reliable as I have not seen anyone complain that it Hard Resets.
Hope that helps.
HeyKrop, thanks for the feedback. ExactlyThat was my concern and wondering if the default HTC ROM would be better than AT&T, but not equal to a cooked version.
Right now, I'm leading to HTC's ROM and was hoping to find a definitive difference between that version and any cooked ROM. I'll continue "searching the threads" before making my final decision.
Thanks for taking time out to help a newbie.
(sigh) yes another thread on noob flashing.. guess it's my turn!
Hello,
i've been flashin my hermes for a year now and my advice would be.:
JUMP IN! the water is great my friend.
if your into flashin roms and learning from (experience). This is a good place to be.
There is wonderful talent here in xda, and the share their findings for us to learn and try out.
Don't be scared man! Just flash away!!
I recommend start with stock rom.. the move up to cooked wm6, theeeennn to 6.1's.. by then you should know the in's and outs
of your phone.
check some of the older schaaps roms. also search for my personal fav blackdragon.. he did a masterful job on a wm6 rom.
then graduate to 6.1..
-peace and happy flashing!
also...
If i remember correctly if you do flash the official ATT rom, you can soft reset the device right before the Carrier specific customization begins and interrupt all the att bloat.
I repeat again my dear friend/brother/... I really have nothing against you personally, and I am myself not that expert to answer all questions from everybody. I have a device and I'm trying almost everything on it because I know I'm dealing with software issues and I can reset whenever I want... so no risk at all in "jumping into the water" (thanks Joshkoss) as long as you read the necessary step-by-step guides.
I'm sorry for my intolerance, I surely didn't mean it to be.
PS I'm not counting my posts
Dude,
Come to think of it, When i got my phone, I didn't read one wiki before I started flashing... It's that safe!! Just make sure you have HARD SPL!!

he he he he , same here. i also did the same and after i installed hard spl. bcoz i wasn't aware of hardspl and i didn't read the deatils available in wiki section of hermes at that time.
also i agree with josh koss quote "jump in, water is great". i really do agree with him. but in my opinion there are alway some sort of bugs available in cooked roms and they are not perfect but the official roms are perfect and there is rare chance that there will be any bug in it. i've tried many cooked roms of 6.0, 6.1 and 6.5, but rite now i am using official HTC rom from last 3 weeks and i haven't face any problem yet.
but the decision is yours, so cheers

Droid gets 2.2 first

I do not know if this offends anyone. But since we're all desire users, I'll might as well share my thoughts here.
Well, I feel that the desire should get the 2.2 first, I mean, we're like nexus one's bloodline LOL.
And that's just a Motorola.
I don't know man. What you guys think!?
I seek your pardon if this post offends you.
In any way .

Oh boy... now you've done it!
Don't be surprised if you get flamed for starting a pointless thread like this
I agree with you though... the Desire should be first in line to get the official update, ahead of Evo.

Well it all depends on HTC. Source code for Froyo is out so it's up to HTC or Motorola to come out with updates.
My bet is Motorola to come out with the update first as they are using somewhat vanilla Froyo.
Well, you can always hack your phone and install custom ROMs, like many of us here. When HTC finally decides to release Froyo with sense, you can still get the ROM here in Xda! Haha!
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Can you maybe substantiate that claim that the droid gets the update first. With some announcements of motorola or some reliable websites?
(otherwise this is indeed quite pointless)
You are aware that HTC and Motorola are two completely separate companies right? I mean what do you think is going on here...Google is deciding when manufacturers push out their updates?
Google did it's part, now it's up to HTC, Motorola Samsung et al to get on with the coding.
As said before this is quite frankly a pointless and uninformed post.
perhaps the OP has read this: http://www.unwiredview.com/2010/06/...to-get-android-2-2-in-july-droid-x-in-august/
I will most likely receive some opposing views, but I've tried the great 2.2 versions that people here have been kind enough to cook/create and share (thanks everyone ), and don't really see what all the fuss with 2.2 is about....
It has a few cool things, but I've already got most on 'em through my custom 2.1 ROM.
Simple, it's Htc sense. Makes sense that it will take longer since there's no motocrap.
