Well v6 isnt effecting too, i used build prop. i wanna use local prop. its effective.

IMO having less ram is not a good idea in android device. android device has different ram management. when an app is started, it will be stored in ram's cache to make it started faster when it started again. when the ram is almost full, it will automatically delete ram's cache and stop some some app. in this way, android devices will have better performance and battery saving. its almost useless to clear ram except in some cases when we need a huge ram space to run a big program.

I dont understand you. When i clear ram its 80+ but now its 130+

You shouldn't run after cleaning your ram
I'm having 220+ ram for average use. my zenonia 4 is running smoothly and never got a problem with any app. as I've said, android device will store recently used app in its ram cache. thats why the ram usage will raise rigth after you clear your ram and start to use some app. this is normal and won't affect in your device's performance much. I thought our ram setting is balanced between running app, background app, and system app. you can change the setting with ram manager pro or minfree to have more space for running app and background app.
Exactly! So much of fuss about RAM. My RAM consumption is always 240+, even after a reboot. Never had any problems.

240 is my minimum RAM usage. Well, Go Launcher, Go SMS, Go Notification, Go Locker and AI Type Keyboard are always running in the background. xP

more ram doesn't always mean your device will consume more battery. yes, its true that our device use more battery power to start up the program, write the onto the ram and run them. nevertheless, linux have unique method to save more battery. after a program is minimized, the program is not erased from the ram. it will be stored in ram's cache. in this way, our device could start the program without write the program onto the ram again. this method will avoid to repeatedly write and erase the program on the ram which consume a lot of battery power. this is also the reason why most android program doesn't have exit option.

that's normal if you have 160 ram that's the lowest ram that i've reach in my galaxy y even i press the clear memory its still 160 or below... if you feel that your galaxy y is lagging why you dont want to try Andrenaline Engine that imbawin made even if you reach 200+ ram it still fast even your ram are 60MB left

Technically, it's hard to tell the difference performance-wise. Android does it's own memory management, but also it won't hurt anyone if you try RAM tweaks and see the result for yourself.

remove facebook, yahoo, and all other apps that runs on the background,
even if you have v6, the apps still runs in the memory
no matter what ram tweak you do if you have background hog memory apps and due to the limitation of our device you shall fail

I did not quite get that you said there, but I didin't encounter a single problem due to low RAM. Of course it can be because I don't usually run a lot of apps at once.

if you are much conscious about ram then never use and go product they are the hogger beast
check every app's ram consumption then you their alternative with less ram consumption
if you love ics keyboard, then there are 2, one uses about 10 mb and other uses about 20 mb

Well, thats true, but the RAM is meant to be cached (fully used) for quickly launching the desired application.
Best way to optimize RAM for starters is to monitor your background, cached and running processes well. First, freeze stock background running bloatware using TB. Mainly DRM content (some say it messes with ringtones and stuff but I never experienced that), wsynclmps, syncmIDs, maps (unfreeze it only when needede), software update(this really doesnt help and is waste of RAM+space), pico TTS , TTS service(these two are for voice to text conversion and are literally not much used), samsung account(is waste compared to play store), two email ones (use gmail app these dont help much), social hub , samsung push service.Choose adrenaline engine if you want multi tasking and v6 if you want more free ram.You can mix both of them but its risky and needs some scripting skills to remove the conflicts they make and highly NOT recommended.

completely agree with this one. less ram is not alway a good news in android system since it has unique RAM management. for quick acces and less RAM r/w some of app is stored in RAM's cache. SGY's default ram setting is already good enough for multitasking and gaming option. if you want a better performance in your device you don't need lesser RAM. instead of it you need a better memory and app management.

Hi there. I have read a lot about android ram management, and that free ram is wasted ram. And I agree with that. My question is - why is my stock ics arc killing apps to constantly keep at least 140MB of ram free? The result is that multitasking is pretty much nonexistent on this device.
A follow up question is, how to change this behaviour and stay on stock rom? Minfree apps from play store don't do a thing.

Have you tried running the V6 Supercharger script? I've heard it works on all ROMs.

It's about using too much RAM in Android 4.1.1 on Defy
Well, first I want to say one thing:

- The Android OS is based on Linux, as everyone knows. The system features a smart task manager that handles all apps minimized to the re-start of apps more faster.

185MB of RAM the phone has, ICS runs well with only 40 ~ 50 MB free.
I do not think this is useful in Defy with JB, but try!
This is the solution if your Defy loves sushi of RAM memory.
The Android system has a great management of RAM, I think all this unnecessary.
It is the explanation and tips for users with RAM problems, I think this will help ..
Right now friends, we can stop asking about the SWAP on Defy (we have locked bootloader) and stop talking about low RAM. This all explained now.

It might sound rude to fans of Task-Killer apps and V6 Supercharger (it works, but not for everyone),
but Salo-S is right. Even with task killing, it only temporarily frees up the RAM, but if you have a lot
of apps installed, the RAM will fill up again in a few minutes.
So the best way to free up ram on a low-RAM device like Defy and Defy+, is to limit the number of
memory-hungry apps in your phone.

you can install as many apps as you want, you just need to avoid that they start automatically. i use this app and it really helps to control when which app starts.

basically you were right. but have you ever read some posts in quarx' cm10 thread?? it is a fact that our defy runs very slow with cm10 and 50-70 MB free RAM (or less). This happens when you flash full gapps and some favorite apps. if you flash minimal gapps (and also some favorite apps) free RAM is about 120-150 MB and the rom is very smooth and responsible.
some useres think it's a cache problem. more free ram = more cache = smoother system.

Very good explanation on the way Android Memory Management works.
To extend on it, people you can use AutoKiller Memory Optimizer app from Play Store. Using this App you can increase the Minimum amount of RAM to be free. Basically, this app is not a task killer but is just an extension of the natural Memory Management system in Android as it helps you customize the Amount of minimum RAM to be free and change the value of RAM to be consumed by the Non-Active Apps etc.
I have been using it for months now (on Stock Froyo, CM7, CM9) and it has been working it's magic ever since.
Ok so I was running an app to check on CPU speeds (unrelated research) when I noticed that this same app was saying I only had 340mb of RAM free...
This seemed a bit strange, considering this tablet has 3GB of RAM on board, and I'm not really running anything at the moment.
I went into the storage setting page, and looked at running processes, and it says that I am using 2.5GB of my RAM.
but... if I add up all the ram usage on all the running processes, it only adds up to about 500mb....
So what is using up the other 2gb?
If anyone has any suggestions, it'd be nice, as at the moment it seems I only have 1gb of usable RAM in this device...

Nevermind, I think I solved it... sort of. I found that the ram clearing button is in a different place than I remember, and I have managed to clear out some more space... though even after a full reset 1.5gb of ram is immediately being used. Seems a lot.
Though this is a stock rom etc so I suspect thats normal.

You probably aren't using all 2.5GB for actual running programs.
Windows 7 does a great job of managing money. If it has any unused memory it will hold often used programs or data in memory in case it's needed. If a running program needs that memory it's quickly shifted. Otherwise when you reopen that program you recently closed, it may load quickly from memory rather than from the drive. I suspect Android does things similar.
Modern systems programmers consider "free" memory to be wasted, so they put it to the best use they can anticipate. That gives you the benefit of all memory as often as possible. If they only allowed the memory to be used for what's needed right now, your Note would only have about 1 GB memory, and would be considerably slower.
It's a little like having the cook wash your car while waiting three hours for the turkey to cook. You get both the turkey and the car wash.

I used Windows 7 as an example because I know how it works. Like you, I imagine Android 4.3 does the same thing.
I was wondering about this as well. On my Note 2, when I clean the ram, it will go to 480-500 / 1.75g on this tab, ext I could get is 1.33/2.75.......
I went through and turned off a lot of the apps, it helped free up a little bit.
Does anyone have a list of the apps that are safe to turn off?

I have LTE version with Snapdragon and when I start the tablet, it uses about 890MB of 2,35GB available (yes, it has 3GB RAM, but graphic processor uses some of this RAM)... When it loads all apps to RAM (about 50 of them, we know android do this) and I start few apps(FB, Gmail, Chrome, Hangouts for example), I still use only about 1,3GB of RAM... So almost 1GB is still free
In Android having too much free ram is not a good thing. Let your apps use it, you don't have to worry about not having enough ram, OS manages it well for you.

Android is a mobile OS which means that it can backup and restore not needed apps if necessary and the 3GB are only the runtime memory beside this it can use the whole internal memory for "running" apps. So long Android got enough memory it holds all apps in memory which speed up the whole device. Therefore it is positive that the Note use his whole 3GB memory and don't think that killing apps or free memory will be a good idea. It will slow your device and produce lags.

They are both right. Android is based on linux. Linux uses ram very effectively to cache apps and data to speed up your system. When something needs ram it removes a different app or data from the ram to keep moving. It works totally different from Windows. Check out this article.

If you want to change how your ram is managed, and you have root, you can use the v6 supercharger or a simple minfree setting app. V6 is in the developer section of the general android forum on this site. I've found that m ram fills up from cached apps. V6 will let you auto clear however often you want.
