[Q] Advise Needed about Network and Sim-Lock

Hi Xda'ers...
I might have the chance to get a T-Mobile G2 here in Guatemala. It's been said that the phone supports GSM BANDS:850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and HSDPA 1700 / 2100 . Here in Guatemala my service Prodiver Claro works with GSM 900/1900 and UMTS-HSDPA: 1900 Will this mean that the G2 will work properly but only in 2G network not on 3G?
The phone comes locked to T-mobile and if i do the gfree method will it work with my provider?

If you're positive of those band numbers then yes, it'll work but just on the 2G.
It will work with your provider as long as you use the SIM unlock commands via gfree

Well i have put my SIM on the phone and when it tries to login into the network it says that my SIM is unable to login into the selected network.
I´ve changed the Radio, got S-OFF and root but the same result... Anyone with any good advise about what to do?
I´m trying to login into a GSM Network running on 900/1900 Band...

Root has nothing to do with it, you need to use the SIM unlock command, check the wiki for the info on how to do that

ONe of them running on 850MHZ and the other running on 1900MHZ and both are working properly but the one i´m trying to use (900/1900) is the only one giving me troubles...

How old is your SIM? Here in the US my old Blackberry SIM that was 7 years old wouldn't work due to new T-Mobile standards.

Well i tried with both mine and my GF Simcards.... Same result both are no older than 7 months... Could it be because the company uses 128k simcards??

Hello Jimbo,
I also have a T-Mobile G2 here in Guatemala and is working fine with the Claro company but just using the 2G Network.
After following the steps to unlock the SIM Network using gfree ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision )
I just added the new APN to make it work with Claro, (Name: INTERNET CLARO, APN: internet.ideasclaro, Port:8080).

Hi guys, I want to buy this phone but want to know if it has 850MHz UMTS band in gsmarena.com says if known but looking at the official website does not mention having it tmobile
someone who is holder of this model I can confirm that it works the 850MHz band that works on at & t or TELUS or Latin America

This phone does support at&t 3g (not 4g lte) and should support Telus 4g bands also.

oh my god, no matter that functions in LTE because the phone I bought for my country Colombia and 3G networks here are compatible with phones that have 850MHz band, so if it is true that this band is 850MHz, is confirmed 100%?

From what I've heard Telus shares the same bands as our phone and it has been confirmed for a fact that our phone is compatible with at&t 3g band. There's already a thread posting a few posts down about it being compatible with at&t 3g. Your welcome sir.

There is only a software difference between the two phones, basically the Telus version has a bit newer kernel and less debugging flags in the OS. Nothing major and if you flash a mod there is no decernable difference at all.
There is no external Telus branding on the phone.

Unlocking Rogers Lumia 900 to work on Telus, LTE?

Hi,
i am interested in buying the Rogers Nokia Lumia 900, unlock it with a code, and make it work on Telus.
Questions to those who bought the Nokia Lumia 900 from Rogers:
1) Does the LTE will work on Telus Network?
2) Is the Internet Sharing locked?
3) I figure we can still get the April 16th update when we unlock it?
4) Where did you bought your codes?

i m in Newfoundland. Also i m still not receiving any updates. I was buying from ROGERS.

Does anybody got LTE in Montreal, because the higher I got was 4G. Strange or when Rogers says that LTE is deployed in Montreal it's only one cell tower near their shop in downtown ?

u need switch to 6gb LTE data, my friends switch it and got the same price. Also, u need a LTE sim card, i think it's with ur purchase from Rogers

Oh thanks, I was looking indeed the data plans LTE on Rogers website but I don't see the 6Gb one, does it include teetering as well?

Hi I called AT&T International Services at 1-800-335-4685, you can use skype to call for free.. Anyways I asked if they could give me an unlock code if I bought a Lumia 900 to use outside the US.. the CSR said that it is available and asked for IMEI number and email to send the code to.. but I didn't have the IMEI # because I didn't receive my phone yet.. but Can you please try and let me know if it works??

I have a Rogers Lumia 900, unlocked and using it on Telus. LTE does indeed work and is fast.
As for updates, I'm not sure how that's going to work, especially device specific updates since it's carrier dependant and Telus doesn't have the 900.

I have a couples questions for you:
- After buying the device from Rogers, where did you get your 'Unlock Code'?
- Did you already had a Micro-SIM card or you went to Telus asking for one? and did you have to ask them to change your data plan for the LTE plan or something?
- You have an LTE icon on the phone?
- Is the Internet Sharing feature working?
- Did you have to make special changes to the settings for your LTE connection to work? Changing APN, etc...
- As for the update from Nokia, you tried the Zune trick of dropping and reconnecting your internet connection or something like that?

[Q] 3G/GPRS/EDGE not working on AT&T Galaxy S3 SGH-I747

I looked in the forums didn't find the solution so i wanted to ask my question here and I hope someone will come with help
my problem is I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 from AT&T .. I pay for unlimited 3G data but I'm not getting it .. I asked the AT&T dealer they told me it might be only reads LTE 4G data thats why .. but i think there's something AT&T to make money from costumers anyway .. How can I make my samsung galaxy s3 connect me through 3G, GPRS or EDGE .. and Thanks for helping me

Enter code to remove Restriction: 11865
then dial *#2263#
and you should be able to change the signal from there.

Hi,
I bought a phone in the US thinking its samsung s3 i9300 but discovered its s3 i747. I'm using the phone in Kenya but it cannot connect to WCDMA, only connects to GSM mode so internet access is very slow!! Any help??

Your carrier probably does not use the same frequencies supported by the phone.

Hi,
I'm using the phonebfor voice calls and texts. I've also checked the frequencies and my carrier uses 2100 for 3g which the phone supports!! The phone status says modified and displays model as i9300 but download mode displays model as i747.
Any further advice??

Install Terminal Emulator from the store. Open and enter this:
getprop ro.bootloader
Tell me what this returns. Also, what is your current baseband?

I bought samsung galaxy s3 sgh-i747m from canada now im in Tanzania, it only support GSM (2g) network cant go for 3g even though on the network mode option i chose LTE/WCDMA/GSM if i change to another mode it wont support. I have tried to upgrade it from ver. 4.3 to 4.4.2 but still the same problem. Any help please...

These are the frequencies for the sgh-i747/m: 2G - GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, 3G - HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100, and 4G - LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 2100
Does your cell carrier support the 3G frequencies?

Yes it supports,,, GSM 900/1800, 3G 900/2100

For 3g, it doesn't look like the i747m supports the right frequencies.

So u wanna tell me it wont support 3g only 2g

Looks like 3g is not supported because the s3 does 850/1900/2100 and you need 900/2100. The s3 is missing the 900.
The international s3 (gt-i9300) looks like it will give you 3g: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9300_galaxy_s_iii-4238.php

both the i747 and i747m support 3G in africa. I also came across the "refurbished" ones that have a i9300 sticker at the back but in reality are i747 and i747m.
They are both fixable issues (working on 2G only). Needs flashing and then repair.

I ran into the same problem!! What's the fix? I opened the phone to see the model number on the motherboard. It is Sghi747. But the sticker under the battery shows I have GT-I9300.
I am not able to connect to 3G. Only 2G.

Find someone who fixes phones locally, and ask them to repair NVM. And also to flash it with the correct flash file

Your suggestion did work. I appreciate your quick replies and kindness. Be blessed. You saved my Samsung Galaxy S3. It now shows 4G icon , typical of At&t S3 variant. I am enjoying the high speed Internet. Thanks again.

It's a code which only represents the numbers you hit on each menu. It's the numbers from the menus written together. You hit 1 on the first menu, 1 on the second menu...up to hit 5 on the last menu. 11865 is just written as a code for abbreviation.

UMTS?

Quick question here:
Is this variant capable of working on UMTS 850mhz (Non domestic)? I live abroad, and i'm planning to purchase this variant. There is conflicting information all over the internet about this specific model's UMTS capabilities, so i thought i better ask here than anywhere else

I'm using it on the Bell network in Canada which uses UMTS 850/1900 frequencies. Many people are using it abroad, maybe someone in your area can confirm.

Mine shows H+ or just H. Since I'm using cloudy g3 rom i can edit the build.Prop to get an AT&T 4G symbol if i want. I've never had it show 3g though.
