(Q) Phone stuck in bootloader, volume and power keys not working, cant connect to adb - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so the other day i turned my phone on and it went straight into the bootloader and the volume and power buttons arent responding. When i try to connect to adb it doesnt recognize that the phone is connected. I know i have adb set up right cause i can connaect my HD2 to it and it connects fine. I searched on here but couldnt find an answer and i dont wanna do anything that could make the situation worse. Does anyone know what i should do or is there a thread somewhere that would help me? Thanks

Anyone? I also have it rooted with eng-hboot and s-off and have been on CM7 for a while. I dont think its a prob with the wrong drivers either cause i have htc sync installed . I did try PDAnet but it fails at the last step and says something about failed to handshake.

Think i posted this in the wrong section.

Are you s-off or s-on? If it's s-off try putting an ruu as a pc10img.zip on your sdcard and flashing it through bootloader.
if that dont work......
Try removing your SD card, then see if you can get to recovery through the BL.
if that dont work......
You need adb. I'm not saying it will work but its worth a shot. If you don't know adb there is a guide in the dev section.
If you can get adb connected to your device after you adb shell into phone you can run "adb reboot recovery".

If you have the fastboot binary, type this in your computer's Terminal:
fastboot reboot

I'm having the same darn issue...I tried the fastboot connect command "reboot recovery"and it does the reboot but comes right back to the boot loader screen no options to scroll and select anything...phone was fine until it froze and couldnt do no reboot power down or anything had no choice to pull the battery...theirs gotta be a work around on this...

im also having a problem, my phone has broken volume buttons, i can get to recovery but after that i dont know what to do since theres no volume buttons. i want to refllash cm7 but how?

Use adb from bootlooping screen. The command is "adb reboot recovery". Adb is part of android SDK. There are plenty of guides on how to set up adb out there and its easy.

You don´t to have be in hboot to use adb. You have to be with the phone on normally or from the splash screen itself. If you are in hboot then choose fastboot and try from there but using fastboot devices command instead.
As long as you have not factory reseted the phone the usb debugging drivers will stay in the phone.

USB debugging should always be enabled by default in any custom Rom. The thing that will disable it is doing factory reset from hboot screen. But you can't get there anyways so it should be enabled. Start the phone as normal and let it go to splash screen. Plug into pc and be sure to check that pc sees the phone. If not, unplug phone. Uninstall drivers. Re install drivers and then plug phone back in. From adb type "adb devices". You should see your device. After that run the "adb reboot recovery". If it still doesn't see it plug phone into different port. Preferably one that goes straight into mother board and remove any other USB devices that are plugged in.

any other way to enable it ?
I did a factory reset.
i just installed a new rom.
thank you for trying to help any way/
Go to settings>Applications>development and check USB debugging.
If you're still getting device not recognized, you should reinstall HTC drivers by reinstalling HTC sync. ( if you haven't installed those in the first place, then you won't be able to use adb unless you do)

When you say "factory reset," do you mean that you ran a RUU? Or that you chose "factory reset" in recovery, so you still have a custom ROM installed? If the answer is the latter, you probably have USB Debugging enabled. Just give ADB a try.

in the street.... and instead of a pillow I should put a cat or something under my head!
Problem.... Stuck at htc boot screen... not able to enter recovery
I installed 4ext recovery ages ago....
the main problem is that the volume keys ( both up and down ) are broken and neither of them work!
adb restart recovery doesn't work
no device find!
yes I installed all the drivers, and I can boot other phones into recovery
What should I do?

I installed the R26.2 successfully, the JB Rom I mean..
Then installed all the tweaks in PIMP my ride successfully again ( I am not a noob.... )
That didn't triggered it...
At the end I was trying to install Int2ext+ and it happened....! I don't know why!
I had done this before on various phones.... I don't know what happened!
The only thing I was able to access so far was HTC BOOT SCREEN! and I also
can access a choke hold from my wife soon I guess!
I don't know why these things always happen to her phone... other friends phones are fine when
I change their roms bla bla bla!

physically bricked?

phone stuck in bootloop. the kicker is my volume rocker is shot. and adb doesnt recognize while still in boot up. aaaaaaaaaaand the warranty is definetly not an option since i have had the inductive charge mod for quite some time now. if anyone knows of a way to go into recovery mode without turning the device on, OR pressing the volume buttons, please, come forth....
I think if all of those are true, you're SOL. In order for ADB or Fastboot commands from your PC to work, the phone must either be in the Bootloader or in Android with USB debugging on.
And to get into Bootloader, you must have a working volume rocker.... Are you sure you can't like hit it and it'll work or something like that?
Otherwise, your best bet is to send it in for warranty replacement and hope they won't notice, which might not be as much of a long shot as you think...

Oh yeah what about ODIN? That might work for getting back to stock and a working Android OS that'll actually boot up.
That's probably why he's asking. Forgot all about ODIN. Although the fact that you can't boot up might be an issue... I'm gonna hand this over to Andro X.
I just meant hit like a light hit on the volume rocker to see if it'll knock something back into place...I don't think it'll really work though, I just gave out a sort of last resort option.

Make a command prompt shortcut on your desktop. Right click and click new then shortcut then cmd for location and cmd for name. Once that's done right click on the cmd shortcut you made and run as administrator. Then adb kill-server and then adb start-server. Now try adb devices and see if your device is now recognized. If it is then awesome you can get to recovery by adb reboot recovery and bootloader by adb reboot bootloader.
Edit...
Just noticed I typed killer server lol by accident. It's adb kill-server. Now fixed above.

I'm new here, coming from another phone, a Galaxy S variant. There, we had a little contraption called a download jig. You put that thingie into a USB port, and a phone goes straight into the download mode. Don't know if such thing exists for Nexus. Does it?

Hmm... That's something you could do. A jib..... I'd like to know more, perhaps it will work, they're both Samsung, after all.
Andro X, I was hoping you were leading to ODIN lol.
What about ODIN? Try getting that set up and hitting start on ODIN just as you power on your Galaxy Nexus. Don't hold your breath, though, it may fail like getting adb commands working, because you're not in bootloader or Android.
adb kill-server is instantaneous, you wouldn't see any real output on command prompt- that is normal.

okay here is what im coming up with. i can open the phone and find the contacts for where the volume attaches. does anyone know what i can do from there? soldering the volume button back on is not an option. ive been trying that all day. only thing left is shorting the contacts so the phone is fooled into a state where the buttons are held. there are 3 contacts. anyone know which ones i should be shorting? or if thats even workable? i may have completely screwed the contacts by now....ive tried maybe 40 times.
OMG!!!!!! i just did some soldering. pressed power button and now im in ODIN MODE. idk what this means.....all it says is "downloading do not turn off target. what do i do??????

Need to return to stock w/out functioning power button

OK here's the quick version of what happened.
Last night, before leaving work, I was playing a game (dice w/buddies) and when I was finished I put the phone to sleep. Picked it up after my 45 min drive home and the screen wouldn't turn on at all. Pulled the battery and as soon as I put it back in the phone vibrated and started the boot process. I didn't even hit the power button. I let it do it's thing and just watched. The screen was all kinds of jacked!! Vertical banding and discoloration to say the least. Well it took about 10 min to boot but when it did the touchscreen was unresponsive. After about 10 min of batt pulls to reboot and check the screen, I called VZW for a replacement.. (They overnighted one and it will be here this morning) So after that call, I just put the phone down and fed my daughter and did a few things around the house. Went back about 2 hrs later and pulled the battery and rebooted the phone to find that the screen now works! BUT the power button does not. It won't wake the phone up,put it to sleep, nothing. It's dead. So I thought I would unroot/relock and take it back to stock so I can send it back. Here is the problem with that; with the power button broken, fastboot won't recognize the phone. I can get into the bootloader via rom toolbox lite (JRummy app) and that works fine. But whether I try it thru adb or WugFresh's toolkit, as soon as the phone hits "Checking fastboot status", it fails. When you go to the device manager in Win7 and try to update the drivers, it fails. It comes up as something like INTF7 or something like that.
So how can I return to stock without a working power button? Even if I was to get it back to stock somehow, I can't relock it as I would have to hit the power button to accept the warning. Is there any other way?
I heard there was some issues with adb on 4.2. You might want to try updating your adb on your comp and then retry fastboot. There was a post on here about what steps to take to troubleshoot adb.

SDK was updated last night to the newest version. I don't think it's an adb/sdk issue. They are not connecting (I think) because the power botton is broken and the phone turns on as soon as the battery is put in. It's almost like it thinks the power button is being held in.
Once you get it to reboot into fastboot mode, it doesn't do anything. None of the buttons work then. Volume or power. And all adb says is "waiting for device."

ADB doesn't work in the bootloader (fastboot mode). It will work in a custom recovery, or once boot into Android though.
When in the bootloader the only commands that will work will be fastboot commands, and they should be all you need to get back to stock and lock your bootloader up.

The fastboot commands don't work. Once you get into bootloader mode, nothing works. The volume keys, power key, nothing. When you type in a fastboot command it sits at "waiting for device" and never does anything. If you look in device manager (Win7) is shows a strange INFT2 (or something like that) driver that needs to be installed. I have searched for hours and found nothing on that. Even the toolkits stall at fastboot commands.

This sounds like a driver issue with your PC. I recommend that you start fresh. Uninstalling the current drivers, and installing new ones. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379875 <-- I recommend the Naked Driver. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29044502&postcount=735 <-- guide there on how to install them.
If you used fastboot on this PC successfully in the past, you could also just do some tinkering to figure out why, but this may take more work to diagnose than actually just nuking the current setup and setting up new ones.

I already tried to mess with the drivers. They won't update while in fastboot mode. It comes up as INTF7 (or whatever it was) and they cannot be found. As long as I can lock the bootloader I will send it back rooted and maybe even on a close-to-stock rom. That's probably the best I can do.

Okay well u can relock the bootloader and run a ruu on Windows. Or u can go to recovery and go to install there you will see adb sideload u plug your phone to usb and adb sideload the Rom.
If your on Windows you probably got a adb/fastboot folder so put the zip u want to flash in there and open command prompt and type adb sideload thezipsname.zip. It's easier than completely wiping everything with ruu.
Let me know how it goes.

Did u lock it or it does not recognize it now that you tried adb sideload?
Do u have a Rom on sdcard?
Are you willing to lose all your data?
Also Windows or Linux?
It can be fixed don't worry. It really can't be that bad.

You can try to wipe and install one of the roms from recovery.
But your computer should see the phone if u put it in bootloader mode once there plug it in and type fastboot devices. It should show up. On the phone you should see it say fastboot usb. If u don't see that push the power button and then you should see it.
Also if HTC sync is installed uninstall it.
Let me know

Put your phone in bootloader mode and plug usb in then just run ruu.exe and go through the steps. Basically just check the boxes and click next.
It should take about ten minutes.

It's supposed to go to a screen and show progress bar.
Then it will reboot into ruu mode a black screen with HTC logo and a progress bar.
Does the bootloader screen say fastboot usb in red? If not push the power button.
Just rerun ruu and try again.

[Q] Please help me. [HTC ONE V]

I own a HTC One V. And I did something at the TWRP menu like installing this CARBON-JB-UNOFFICIAL-20131022-1552-primoc thing.. and ever since then the phone doesn't boot.. it won't even go to that menu where it says FASTBOOT{ I think it's called the recovery menu :3 }
But, I charge it.. And then I plug it into the comp, it just connects and disconnects, like it's giving a faint indicator of life :3
Please help. I was on Ignorance V5..
Installing a rom can't hard brick your device.
Try to shut it down by holding the power button and immediately press vol down + power to enter your bootloader. Then you can select recovery and install a backup of your ignorance rom or do whatever you want.
BTW: It looks like you forgot to install the kernel for the custom rom.

Most likely you flashed the wrong ROM.
PrimoU <> PrimoC
Boot loader should still work as expected I guess:
<vol.down>+<power> should get you to the hboot menu.

Did you try fastboot command to reboot into bootloader?
The command might be accepted by phone during it's initial loading stage:
* connect phone to a computer
* run command (e.g. fastboot reboot-bootloader), must be waiting for response from device
* reboot your phone
* if you are lucky enough the command will be accepted on load.

This command has to be run on a computer.
Similar as you are running fastboot commands to root phone or install custom recovery.
Please google if you are not familiar with fastboot commands at all.
Make sure you have installed proper phone usb drivers to make your phone "visible" from computer.
Btw how did you get running Ignorance?

You can download HTC drivers from almost any other hOV thread.
Like this one in example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1996665
Basic Requirements. 4th item.
Remember, all you need to try with this tool is to reboot into bootloader. Try to click the tool button while your phone is starting to load.
By the way, you may find fastboot files in that thread as well (Basic Requirements. 5th item).

Yes, I have the HTC Sync installed which gives the necessary drivers for the recognition of HTC phones.. ( My ONE V)
But, the computer just sounds that music when a USB device is connected, the phone is dead. Not even lighting up..
The WinDroid isn't recognizing my device as well..

The computer should not recognize your phone because it is not loaded completely (neither os, neither recovery).
But it might be recognized for a few seconds only while trying to load os. And you might be able to supply reboot command at that particular moment.
Just try what I said.

Tried. Ain't working. LED ain't even turning on while charging too.. So there's really no way to find out whether it's charging..
Update : Still haven't fixed my phone. Any help would be appreciated. Can't enter Bootloader menu. Phone when connected to computer, gives "sound" that every normal USB when connected gives.. So the phone isn't completely dead. After connecting, the computer doesnt react in any way :crying:
