HTC to unveil new Mango phone on 1st September - Windows Phone 7 General

Event announced for 1 September. Its on techradar but I'm not allowed to post links here as not made enough posts.
I'm dure for upgrade now too, I hope they have one with a decent screen, battery life and of course beats dr dre sounds integrated.

Here you go:

Eternity....

the beats by dre is probably a software thing rather than hardware which could be fixed by an update to the sound enhancer.

From what I see, Beats is hardware speakers & headphones, not software only (may include software too). This isn't to say that software couldn't help, but the current HTC WP7 devices have pretty poor speaker, at least in my opinion. My old T-Mobile TP2, T-Mobile Dash, & AT&T Tilt had much better sound quality.

Can't wait to see all the new Mangofied devices coming out this Fall. I'm most looking forward to what Nokia has up its sleeve since I think they don't have too long before they need to release their version of a swam song. HTC always makes good phones though, so if I feel the need to supplement my Dell Venue Pro I'll check out their offerings.

It's both, but it currently only works with headphones so the speakers will still be crappy (I have an Envy 14 Beats). The software controls the amount of Bass it amplifies in like an Equaliser.
Also, I accidently clicked thanks instead of quote, so you get a free +1 to your thanks meter

Just to add, to anyone reading this. It might not necessarily be limited to the headphone jack, that's just how it is on HP Envy's.
HTC could decide to add a Beats Speaker aswell... but Beats technology is VERY expensive, the only speaker they have at the moment is the Beat Box which is #300+ (That's pounds, yes my Envy is a US import and I have no pound sign ), Having said all this, HTC do have a controlling share now.
And yes, the difference is amazing but I do use Beats Solos... Not sure how it would sound with standard headphones.

They have poor sound period.

Nokia un imo has the best speakers hands down. Matter a fact one of the phones they unveiled today is said to be the best sounding smrtphome to date I believe its the Nokia 800. Wish it was a wp7 device and not Symbian.

I believe he was talking about HTC Device, not Beats. If that's the case, he's correct. The HTC HD7 has terrible sound from its built in speakers. The TP2 I used to have had much better sound. Still not great, but at least I could hear it.
PS: Even if he's talking about Beats. What makes this a "race motivated statement?" He never used any racist/derogatory comment towards the creator. He just stated his opinion of "something" having poor sound quality. It's these kind of statement you post that get you in trouble with the mods of this forum. Please, just try to not make posts like this anymore. You'll be doing yourself a favor.

he could've been more specific in his reply. these speakers are usually only intended for things such as phone calls, alarms, and podcasts/apps not for hardcore things like music and movies, that's how u blow them out. also the SRS enhancement does enhance the sound from the speakers to a degree.

I agree, that is what the speakers are designed for, but why put them in a Phone that is meant to be a Media/Social Networking phone. They're fine for dumbphones like the Motorola RAZR, but WP7 is smartphone & is marketed as a media phone. It's essentially a Zune Phone with additional functionality. I may hate the iPhone, but must admit it has amazing sound even on the built in speaker(s). I mean, even some dumbphones like the Nokia Music Express has much better sound quality. We pay good money for these phones, whether they're Android/WP7/iPhone/what ever, they should give us some quality for that money.

Oh, & while we're at it. include a $5 FM antenna in the device so we aren't restricted to using wired headphones to listen to FM radio, granted I'd never use it as I don't listen to music on the radio, but still. Having FM Radio & the sound enhancement of HTC Sound Enhancer restricted to wire headsets/phones is stupid IMO. I mean come on, this is the day of wireless technology such a BT.

the speaker in my arrive sounds tons better than the iPhone. and the Nokia music express is actually a Symbian smartphone, so of course it's gotta have a great speaker since its built for music.

I'll have to take your word for it, never heard the Arrive's sound quality. I have a HD7. I wouldn't call the music express a smartphone, yes it has Symbian, but an older version of it that's lacking many features of a true smartphone. The Nokia Nuron now, is another story. My room mates have had both & the Nuron is much better & has great sound quality as well.

the SRS enhancement within the sound enhancer works without headphones and there are many radio apps that allow listening to local radio in more superior digital audio quality rather than analog which is what's found on FM Radio.

Some of Sound Enhancement works w/o, but the main feature with the most effect does not & never has, even in WinMo. Do those radio apps work without headphones & if so, are they using the FM Receiver or some kind of Data Connection thing? If they aren't working without headphones & not using the FM receiver, than how does this relate to my antenna comment? That'd be an Apples & Oranges thing.

I have been considering upgrading from vibrant to GS2, but since I so much enjoy my music on voodoo sound plus powerAmp setup in Vibrant, will it be a let down on GS2 because of inferior DAC? Those who switched from original galaxy s please comment.

simple....are you an audiophile? I mean a true one. If the answer is yes, then you'll likely be let down because the Yamaha chip isn't as good as the Wolfson according to Supercurio. If the answer is no, then you'll likely not notice the difference
When I had my vibrant, my flac albums sounded absolutely luscious, and I don't get quite the same impression with the sgs2, even before I found out about the yamaha dac. However I left my vibrant like a year ago so this is hardly valid.. I think may have had supercurios sound fix on it too.

Thanks for the replies. I won't call myself an audiophile, but once i had voodoo on, the sound from Poweramp with equalizer tweaked to my liking is very pleasing. I hope SG2 can provide at least 80% of the fidelity.
One more question. Any issues with A2DP streaming to Bluetooth headphones? Vibrant has lower quality over A2DP in spite of having BT 3.0

Dont know about A2DP... but the best bet to answer your question is Supercurio. Hit him up on twitter he'll likely reply. Also if its straight up streaming to bluetooth head phones it completely bypasses the DAC see the following tweet
http://twitter.com/#!/supercurio/status/169484560827027456
Also.. Supercurio isn't able to pull off anything like voodoo sound on the yamaha DAC.. He did do something for the international/at&t version called Voodoo Louder which i believe only boost the output volume of the headphone jack. I don't know if its coming to our SGS2, but I would say its not likely

1.28 update removes some Beats profiles

Some bad news for those using various Beats headphones.
In the 1.26 version there were profiles for a number of Beats headsets including the pros.
In 1.28 they have removed some of these profiles. The only ones remaining are urBeats and Solo.

Make sure you contact HTC support and let them know you are upset.
I have contacted HTC support and awaiting a reply.
Apparently the XE had profiles too? But only for urBeats and Solo. Then they bring out the One X that has extra profiles, and then remove them again in an update....very odd indeed.
UK support have been useless. This was my second attempt at getting some sort of proper response on this from them
"I can confirm the latest software update version 1.28.401.9 has indeed removed the Beats headset profile for the Pro headset. The removal of this profile was intentional from the media player, please accept my apologies for the inconvenience this may cause you."
No indication as to why....it makes no sense! Can others please try logging this if it matters to them

Is all down to opinion mate, if you want good quality music, buy an mp3 player.
Beats for me makes a real difference to the experience.
I would suggest the majority of people are not going to connect their phone to all sorts of audio equipment to test the quality of the audio, like gsm arena.
A smart phone is made to do multiple things,it is not going to be perfect in everything it does.
I'm no audiophile by any means so it's good enough for me. Like I said,it's down to opinions.

Absolutely! The phone is still rather good at being a 'one device for everything', and I don't think my hearing is sensitive enough to notice much apart from volume!
If people really miss them, can the extra profiles not be extracted and cooked into a ROM?
Has anybody sussed out what the problems with those profiles were? (Or is it just a licensing issue?)
If you get a decent pair of headphones the audio is good and works well with audio beats. It is a shame about pro beats as it sounded amazing with my a Jay headphones. Urbeats isn't to bad.
Maybe they did it because they realised how good probeats sounded without even having to use audio beats headphones.

There wern't any problems with the profiles. I think they have retreated to an older code line. The profiles of Solo, urBeats and Other are present apparently on a Sensation XE. The One X was the first to add in extra profiles, but they had problems with stuttering audio in 1.26. I think they cured this by using an old but proven codepath. The question is, are they going to bring the profiles back. As they own 51% in Beats I am sure there isn't any licensing issue.
However, if someone still on 1.26 can pull out the relevant codelines, that could be very useful indeed!

Terrible Audio Playback

Have any of you experienced terrible audio quality (Tinny sound-sorta like the treble is too high) and a very slight hiss when listening to music on the headphones? Ordered 2 phones from AT and T and both of them have the same issue. I am still debating whether this is an issue or is just the way the phone is.
I had a Tmobile G2 previously and the audio quality when listening to Pandora and other internet radio apps was simply awesome. This is especially disturbing to me as I am absolutely thrilled with the phone in other aspects. Based on your responses I will decide if I want to return the phone to get a replacement or simply get the HTC One X.
FYI I have the AT and T Samsung Galaxy S3 with stock ROM from AT and T.

Thanks Gberg. I tried the equalizer app, didnt do too much to alleviate the issue. I will be trying a friends phone to see if it has the same issue to decide.
I checked a friends S3 and found pretty much the same results. It is very much possible the audio playback sound quality is not as good as some of the other phones.
Will be trying a more expensive headset.
Also, Can anyone let me know if rooting the phone and installing a custom rom would make any difference to the sound quality?

Yes...other roms can help/hurt audio as they replace/tweak audio libraries. Cyanogen Mod includes a DSP app. Another thing i have done that helps a lot is to install awesome beats. check the apps and themes forum for installation instructions...of course you must have root.
Hope this helps. Oh BTW..i'm using the Bose MIE2's. While i'm not a huge Bose fan generally....I have found them to be quite satisfactory with equalization.
Try equalizing with DSPManager I know it comes with Gapps on jelly bean it features bass boost and like I said before equalizer that may help or it could just be the device/defected.

[Q] Sound volume of HTC One M9

Hi everybody, i will soon buy HTC One M9 so i am interested in one thing:
How loud speakers are on the M9?
Because loudness is very important to me because me and my team like to listen alot of music while out.
Are they louder than my friends Galaxy S3? i know they are more quality but i want them to be alot of louder than Galaxy s3 becasue he always tells he has loudest speaker of all of us, so i want to blow him away

If your phone is rooted
Go to play store and search for viper4android. In the playstore the app will have a ton of Chinese in it. But when you download it, it is in English. This will make your phone a whole lot louder and it will sound cleaner!

I find the quality and loudness of the M9 speaker is far superior to ANY of the Galaxy S series. My mate has the s6 and i had the s4 and my sister has the s5, and it's much better. Louder, better sound quality. It's great, and having it at high volumes doesnt make you feel like the speaker is going to rattle itself to death either.
What about ringtones? they do not seem as loud as all the other phones owned by my co-workers. We always have to listen for our phones since we are on call and when their phones ring they seem much louder than my M9.
I'm gonna be the "odd man out" here.
I've had the M7, M8 and now the M9.... I think the M9 has the best sound, but the quietest of the 3. My step son's iPhone 5s is louder, but sounds really bad.
To me, everything needs to come up a few db.... But then I think you'd lose the sound quality.
Just my $.02 wroth.

I am a new fan of this app... If you are rooted this can bring you quite a few db and you can improve sound quality in the advanced features.. I've never had a cell phone that could sound better than my mp3 player until I learned of this app. The developer should charge for it. IMO it's that good. I have a hard time hearing ringtones too.. Honestly I go to zedge and find the most loud ringtones I can find and that helps. If it's something like being on call I'd look for a loud alarm tone and set that ringtone for my work number. I did that at a baseball game and I could hear it... barely but I heard it as where the stock tones I couldn't hear anything.

On a side note, but still related: I have V4A installed on my current ROM, but it doesn't work for some reason? I've used it on previous phones and know how to get it working, but for some reason it's just not working with my current ROM (Eragon 8.6). I've updated and tried all 3 "driver" installations... I reboot it and check the driver status and it shows it's not working and I hear no difference with any changes I make.
You can use on PC a free program call Audacity to boost the loudness of ringtones. Just load it, use the boost/amplify feature (I forget what it is called), and then export as a new file. You will have to download an additional file called lamemp3 and direct the program to it in order to save as a mp3. This works really well. You can also load a full song and trim out the portion of the song you want as a ringtone.

Sound quality / chip

maybe some of u can help me.
Im interested in the sound/audio/music quality of the OP3 in compination with headphones.
I know the quality of a Samsung S2 and S4 (both not with Wolfson chip) and i know the S3 and S5 have a variety with a Wolfson chip (never heared them).
Many people say they can hear a different between them.
Maybe some of you know the difference between them and the OP3? Or can compare?
I think about buying a OP3 and i'm really interested in the sound quality with headphones.
Thanks for any answeres and sry for my english

I believe the audio solution is the same as for all SD820 processors. Built-in 24bit 96khz support. Nothing out of the ordinary and not high-end but good enough for Spotify Premium and stored Flacs etc.
For Premium Audio you are better off adding an outboard DAC such as from Audioquest (Dragonfly) or Meridian Explorer. Built-in ad-hoc sound processors are almost always a compromise.
A few manufacturer, LG and HTC spring to mind, have better, separate built in DAC's and amplifiers which may suit you better if you don't want to shell out for separate ones.
Having said all this, I use an S7Edge (Exynos version) which, like the Snapdragon uses propriatory decoding and I am happy with it for music on the move. (I also use a full Cyrus home system and Grado Headphones for indoor listening to give some perspective).
The headphone quality w/ Bose QC25 is good and a LOT better than the 6P (stock) in my opinion. It still doesn't beat the iPhone 6s+ in loudness and overall sound quality using Spotify or Apple Music. For most people it's good enough and for others Viper should help a ton but for audiophiles and stock out of the box, it's not going to cut it.

I'm coming from iPhone 6s and the only thing that I don't like at this device is the sound quality, external and headphones both.
Hope we can fix it a bit with viper

My dad has a 6S Plus and every android device (flagships only) I used had much much better quality with V4A installed. Not sure about OP3 though. Yet to test properly.

I read that in order to install Viper one has to:
"Setup your Device
For Samsung devices,
1. Try install V4A as user app instead of system app if the latter failed doesn’t work.
2. Use Normal Mode and select V4A FX in Settings>Sound>Music Effects.
3. If don’t work, use another player rather than Samsung stock Music player.
——————–
1. ROOT your device.
2. Install busybox if doesn’t come with root.
3. Modify build.prop (Thanks [email protected])
a. Open up /system/build.prop in text editor using any file explorer with root access.
b. Change the line (If you can’t find these lines, skip this step.)
– “Ipa.decode=true” to “lpa.decode=false”
– “tunnel.decode=true” to “tunnel.decode=false”
– “lpa.use-stagefright=true” to “lpa.use-stagefright=false”"
do you know of any other good app to improve the audio quality of the op3 not needing to the root trick?
I find op3 audio rather flat.
Thanks
Could somebody please check if the google play music app offers you the equalizer option in its settings menu? My LG G4 does not and it is one of the (many) things I hate about it
I'm getting really good and rich sound when I use my Sony headphones and when I hook it up to my car stereo it has better sound than my iPhone really impressed with the sound...

Viper is by far ur best bet. Using it myself and it improved the sound a lot. Everything else would just be an equalizer since ab adequate driver can't be installed without root.

it does indeed! Only way right now I can stand the poor audio quality... Hopefully V4A will work soon on OP3...
I bet some here confuse "audio quality" with "loud" or/and "much bass *LOL*
The audio quality on this device (headphone jack) IS very good, period.
If you want louder signal (and ruin your ears) or more bass (for your lame nts-nts-nts music), install V4A or something like that...

Agree, limitations are hardware based and no player will improve that. For audiophiles ... use an outboard dac/headphone amplifier.
