I want to use my Defy without a SIM card. How do I get past the Insert SIM card screen to set up the device with wifi?

I recieved my O2 Orbit on wendesday and the copilot came on friday, I inserted the memory card in my phone and it said that i need to format the memory card but the Copilot software said that the maps etc are on the card and when I go into start/settings/system/memory/storage card it comes up as not installed. is there any way i can fix this?
So I borrowed a friends card
The phone is recognising that there is a card in the phone but it will not let me read any of the two cards.
When I insert the card in and power up the phone I get "Do you want to try to format this storage card to make it readable? This will permanently delete any files on the card." I click "yes"
And when I click "yes" I get the following message "This storage card could not be formatted. Try reinserting the card, or using a different one"
I have used two cards the first the copilot card and now my friends both cards come up with this error.
Also when I go to start/settings/system/About, Where it says expansion slot it says In use
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Will I need to send the phone back and also has this happened to anyone else if so what did you do?
Just got a new 32K SIM Card of my old number but getting an error "The SIM Card is Missing".
Whereas the SIM works on other phone and my orbit detects my old sim of the same number.
Any Idea how i can resolve it?

I took out my SD card for about a week for some reason, and after trying to put it back in, the phone doesn't see that card..
I've tried another SD card and it doesn't work either
I've tried both SD cards on a different phone and both of them are working...
Does any1 have any idea of what could've happen?
I've tried restart the phone with and without the card and it is still the same, with SIM card even...
Have a VZW985, rooted. When I take the old sim card out and put in my working sim card it does not recognize it. The sim card that is original to the phone is no longer active. The phone is unlocked, not stolen. What is preventing it from reading my valid sim card?
When I insert my SIM card into the SIM card reader, the phone won't detect the SIM card and this started happening since I flashed to Stock Rom.I can't tell if it's a problem with my firmware or just my SIM card reader. Plz help!
