[Q] Xperia Play reliability and online retailer question. - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, so i've been discussing etting new phones with my parents, and we've settled upon the LG enlighten for my mother since she's new to smartphones, doesn't need anything powerful and it's only $1 from wal-mart next week. I've decided upon the Xperia play, now this phone varies in price. From Verizon, it's $100, from Amazon, it's $.01, and from Tiger Direct, it's FREE.
So I want to get it online, but my father brought up one issue: the policy to return these items if it breaks is a 30 day time span (versus 1 year if bought through Verizon directly) , so i was wondering, is there something i'm missing with these online policies? Can I get them fixed/replaced by just going to verizon if i buy them online from these 3rd party retailers? And I can't seem to find Tiger Direct's policy, can someone help with that?
PS. How reliable is the Xperia Play? I won't be rooting for a good while, need to do some extensive research so i dont mess up somehow, but i will be downloading non-market apps, after i get a good virus protection software for the Xperia Play.

can anybody help me?

Its always reliable to get it from Verizon. I'll need more info to handle your question since I'm not from US and the xperia play available here is an unlocked one.

Here in the UK we have Sales of Good Act some of which specifically applies to electronic goods.
Dont quote me, but it goes something like this -
First 14 days you are entitled to a refund from the manufacturer for ANY reason. (as long as it is undamaged ofc).
After 14 days and up to 3 years you can request a manufacturer refund or repair on faulty items, which is determined by manufacturers discrepancy.
After 3 years and up to 5 years you can request a manufacturer repair or replacement, which is determined by manufacturer discrepancy.
I used the law to replace a 4 year old LG monitor that had developed some dead pixels.. The LG guy came to my house, picked up the old monitor, gave me a replacement monitor (that was better than the one he took back btw) free of charge because i told them they had to by law.
Im sure laws in the USA will cover you for stuff like this, you just need to do some research.
Once you have knowledge of this, you will discover, just as i did that retailer warranties and extra guarantees are worthless and simply not worth paying the extra amount for nor worth worrying about.
Skip the retailer (unless you want to cancel your contract ofc) and head straight to the manufacturer if anything goes wrong.

Am I being unreasonable?

I've had a TP2 since June last year on a 24 month VF business contract. When I bought it I was told by the sales rep that if it went wrong during the contract they would replace it within 24 hours, and they still have this guarantee on their website today.
It went wrong in December, and, sure enough they swapped it for another within 24 hours. Now exactly the same fault has happened again. I rang VF and was told I had to send it back for repair and it would take up to a month. I mentioned the business account guarantee and was told that it is a very old phone and things move on. They don't have any so I cannot have one. But, they would let me buy another phone off them to tide me over until mine was fixed and they would credit my account with £25!
I did point out that they are still selling them with the same 24 hour replacement guarantee on their website, but have been effectively blanked me.
I've also tried going through their eforum with the same result.
Am I being unreasonable in expecting them to live up to their own advertising?
I think it is possibly a case of them breaking their side of the contract
Unfortunately, I think you are being a little unreasonable, in that you seem to be insisting they send to you something they don't have. The phone is a bit older, and isn't available to them anymore. You're asking them to live up to their advertising, but what exactly do you expect them to do? No amount of complaining is going to make a TP2 materialize out of thin air.
I also doubt it would be a breach of contract. Their legal experts have probably already included a contingency in their agreement fine print which absolves them from having to replace hardware within 24 hours when its not in stock anymore. Phones get obsoleted very quickly, they know that as well as anyone.
On the other hand, I will agree that their solution is not really acceptable, either. I doubt you would be able to buy a phone for 25 pounds (assume the price would be unsubsidized, since you are still on contract), so it sounds like they are asking you to spend money on something you don't really need. Maybe they can send you some type of refurb "loaner" phone to use while yours is repaired. Or there should be some other solution that gets a usable phone into your hands while your TP2 is being repaired, without it costing you money.
Personally, I always keep an old phone as a backup. Things break, it happens.
I dont think you are being unreasonable at all. They have the phones in stock in shops, they still advertise the deal (although not sure thats relevent).
Incidentally, what is the fault?

If they have the phones in stock, and have access to them, then I agree they should send him one.
Although I don't know about the UK, but in the US, stores which have the carrier's name are often franchises, and not owned by the carrier at all. So just because they have a phone in stock at a store, does not mean they carrier has any access to them.

Now they may not have a refurb to send me, but it seems pretty obvious that they have new ones being sold with the same non existent guarantee.

It is the same fault that I had in December. A small square of an oily substance appears in the middle of the screen and gradually (over a few weeks) expands to cover the screen, then the screen stops responding.
When I reported it at Christmas they said "Oh yes that one" as if they are used to it
The REALLY annoying part is that I was wavering on taking out a 2 year contract for precisely this reason, and was assured that if I had any problems with the phone within the 24 months they would swap it the next day.
I should have known better

Phone Insurance for Nexus purchased through GOOGLE PLAY - only!

i know there are a couple of phone insurance threads floating around already but i felt like there needed to be a separate one strictly for the people that bought it through the play store...it falls under different warranty and its a different circumstance
for anyone that has/will buy insurance for this phone please list the company, rate (yearly or monthly) deductible, waiting period and if it excludes anything major that we may need (for example some policies dont cover loss only theft)
PLEASE ONLY post if you already own the insurance or have spoken to a rep directly...no speculation or assumptions...it may give people wrong information
i will start first:
i havent bought it yet but i spoke to a carrier rep that told me the nexus from the playstore is now considered "local" since google is selling it directly to the US which is why they will insure it properly
company: ensquared
rate: $58.99 1 year or $99.99 2 years
deductible: $75
waiting period: 30 days, claim can be filed on 31st day
Insurance
I purchased my policy through Worth Ave Group. They are just a reseller (broker) as the policy itself is underwritten by The Hanover Ins. Group out of Worcester, MA.
Details:
Cost: $43.25
Term: 1 year
Waiting period: 1 day (bought coverage yesterday, in effect today)
Deductible: $50
Limit: $399 (per event, not aggregate) What this means is that you could theoretically file a claim for a phone that was spilled on, have it paid for and then a few months later drop it and have it paid for again ($50 deductible each time).
A few things to note:
Does not provide coverage if you simply lose your phone, it must have been stolen and a police report must be filed, if so. Also, if the phone was stolen from your car, there must be evidence of force-able entry: i.e. taken from a car with unlocked doors or open windows = no coverage.

i looked into worth ave group..best price by far...2 reasons why im hesitant to go with them
1. no loss protection (as you mentioned)
2. i was reading the claims q&a and it says for damages you have to bring it to a store first to get it evaluated and it seems like if you can get it repaired they will send you a check for the amount of necessary...and if its beyond repair they will need a letter stating so from the store... all this nonsense instead of being able to simply ship a broken device to them and pay the deductible...are you aware of that?
also...did you ask you them specifically about the device? my main concern is that they say they cover it, then when the time comes they give you a comparable replacement because its an overseas (unlocked) phone
Worth Ave Ins
Yeah, I am not too concerned about the non-coverage for loss as I am pretty good about keeping my phone with me at all times. For the repair issues, I am aware of that disclosure and can live with that, especially when factoring in the cost of the insurance.

i just called them...are you aware that they don't supply you with a device...when you file a claim (and it gets approved) they mail you a check and you have to purchase a new device on your own
not a fan of that procedure
Worth Ave
I'm not too worried about that. I actually prefer getting money for the phone instead of a replacement anyways. There could be a better model/phone available at the time of making a claim which I could then buy.

I haven't decided who to go with yet. But, I do prefer this procedure. If they just send me a check for $399 instead of replacing my Galaxy Nexus, then a year down the line, I can get the best phone available for $399, which I'm betting won't be the Galaxy Nexus. Think about that!
EDIT: Bigmike beat me to it, but yea, same point - completely agree with you bigmike.

agreed...but i feel like since they are handing out money instead of a device they are going to make you go through hell to get it...no one likes to hand over money
2ndly...i have double and triple checked ensquared...they definitely cover the international nexus...i made it a point to distinguish the verizon model and stated that i dont want a SG2 or comparable phone as a replacement because i already have that and thats why im making the switch in the first place..he told me that comparable devices are only given if the customer is rushing them to locate a device ,if its been discontinued or if its not a popular device and you bought it from a small market company or carrier...which google obviously is not...i even got the reps name and a direct line (which i called)
im going to go with them...$59 for 1 year and it covers damage, loss, theft and many other things...sweet deal with a $75 deductible...beats my $7.99/mo and $130 deductible with tmobile
I went through MDPA, it was $70 for the year. No deductible.
http://www.mobiledeviceprotection.com/
No clue on how they are to work with, giving them a try over asurion this time.
Thanks for the info. I was thinking about getting insurance for my Galaxy Nexus but wasn't sure if Google offered any. When you sign up for the insurance through Google, do you have to call up or can you sign up online? Thanks!
Since this thread comes up in a quick Google search, I figured I'd give my .02 cents while I'm in the middle of a claim with Worth Ave Group.
My phone dropped and has a cracked screen as of Sunday. I filed a claim via the website and waited 24 hours. No response. Monday: I sent an email through their website. No response. I called later and got a representative that said they received the claim. After the phone call, I got a reply to my initial claim. Tuesday: I get a 2nd response from the email I sent from their website. My first issue is not only are they not 24x7, but they also take 24-48 hours to respond. The customer service rep says we should wait 2-3 business days for a response. My previous claims with Asurion had a new device on my doorstep by the next day, so this is stark contrast in customer service.
I was instructed to get a quote from a local repair shop. Even though Worth Ave instructed me to go to a specific repair shop, they didn't seem to be aware of Worth Ave's policy. I was not able to get a written estimate nor did they send me the follow-up email they promised me. I still sent an email back to Worth Ave's claim department with the amount quoted. Most likely, I'll have to wait another 24-48 hours for a response on what I can expect next (maybe a repair of my device). If they agree to pay for the repair, reimbursement can take up to 2 weeks.
TL;DR: Don't go with Worth Ave Group if you expect to get a quick turnaround in case of an event. Time is money. Pay a little more for 24x7 service which will ship you a replacement.

autopumpkin.com service?

Hello,
I have two hardware problems with my HU from Pumpkin. Should I send it back to autopumpkin in China or could it be, that I will never see it again?
Has anyone experience with the Pumpkin service?
Thank you!
My touchscreen died (1 month old unit). Jammy on their forums said they would need to ship me a new screen... then nothing. I've emailed twice without response. I'm not thrilled with them.
Also mine has problems with the screen. It is flackering sometimes and often the screeen switches off.
So it is better to life with it, then to send it back to China.
I came onto here to write about my experience with pumpkin just yesterday. my HU is a few months old pumpkin brand bought off amazon. I started getting random phantom touches on the screen and it would swipe/touch icons and stuff i never touched it! So i decided to email pumpkin and ask for suggestion to fix. They replied within 24 hours and offered a free screen replacement along with video instructions on putting it in. The new one is on its way to me now at no cost. Their english is very "broken" but they DO have good customer service and want a satisfied customer, they also gave me links to the latest factory firmware for my unit too. Very nice
Thought i'd share my experience with them

Ive found the same, Poor english but quick responses and very willing to help when they can.
I would buy from them again.
My response was not as good. Flickering/dark issues. They tried to say it was software, so I did all they said. When that didn't work, they wanted me to pay shipping for a screen (over $100) and would offer no guarantee that it would work.
Nice to see that other people had good service, though. I wonder if they are friendlier to Amazon customers because they fear Amazon coming back on them. I bought directly from autopumpkin and feel that their hardware support was lacking.

I did get mine from Amazon and contacted them through amazon messaging, maybe that's the difference i don't know, but they at one point sent me a new screen under warranty even no shipping charges. (more than I thought was going to happen at least)
Be nice to support and realistic to yourself.
Many companies that sell global have different warranty and support/service. I.e. when you buy in Europe the same unit costs additional % to pay for repairs/warranty/replacement.
The same goes for every company I know. I can buy from Hong Kong, Russia, etc. and don't have to pay for those extra % on warranty, but of course that also means that I get no warranty if I don't pay for it.
When you buy from the Pumpkin website, you pay the price for the local market wherever they are. If that's in China and warranty there doesn't cover replacement or global replacement but only repair in the country you bought it, than you as international customer have no warrenty.
I.e. when you buy a device with warranty in Europe, you have bad luck trying to claim that warranty later in the USA or Japan or Russia. It all depends on where you buy it, local warranty, extended global or not, etc? The moment you buy from a store in your own country it's clear, you know what you pay for, or not. But whenever you go online and shop global, either you learn about the over 1.000.000 global regulations and laws or you simply live with a yes/no and don't know on forehand what you get for an answer.
Some larger companies have better support, i.e. Dell. I had a broken Screen bought in Europe that broke down when I was a few years in Russia. Dell send me the newest version cost-free across the globe to replace my broken screen. But that might not be covered by standard warranty, just a nice guy at the helpdesk. I've had with Canon the same once. But first support I got told me I was in bad luck. I called again, and than again, and third time I got a lady at the phone that was very helpful and said of course she'll prepare everything and I got a replacement within 1 week.
Same happened to me to German Telekom once when I had a broken phone. I called, called again, every time nothing. At one point, I got a Manager on the phone, a real manager from the top! Later I read in the newspaper they do that sometimes, the managers at the top working half a day the job of those below them to know about their work they are doing. And this manager said immediately of course we replace the device, next day I got a new iPhone upgraded version in my hands.
So it really matters which country, which law, which support representative, how nice do you ask, etc..
generally it's good to make the support representative feel like you are a poor person, in need of help and only him/her personally can save you. Some people I noticed called with a tone/way of speaking like:" I'm a customer, I'm the king, you are my slave, you must replace, you must for me, I paid and so you must crawl through the mud for me" of course people who talk like that get NOTHING!
So it's also how you represent yourself. Be nice, be gentle, let them know you are in need, they CAN but not MUST help you, start your conversation with:"i've had such great experience in the past..."
And if you don't have luck with 1 support representative, try again! That's no guarantee of course. Sometimes you are simply out of luck. I mean, when your printer dies after 12 years of loyal service, or your carkit dies after 6 years of service, you really think the product you bought isn't already written off economically? Of course it is. So be realistic with your claims.

How Samsung are treating UK customers

Just received this. The must really appreciate us here as they will give us our money back and even collect the device.
We would like to offer our deepest apologies for the trouble you had to experience with the Note7. As you are aware, we have advised all existing Note7 customers to stop using your device, back up your data, and switch it off.
Due to this unfortunate incident and as a token of appreciation to you as our customer, we will offer you a full refund of your purchase or an exchange for any S7 range. We will also collect the defective device from your home so you don’t need to worry about returning it.
We will arrange for a courier to pick up the device from you between the time of 1pm - 6pm on Wednesday 19th October. For your safety please ensure that the device is powered down and is in its original packaging if possible. If you are not available or this time is not convenient to you, please contact 01628 402031 as soon as possible to arrange collection for the following evening.
We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.
Just got the same email and this paragraph makes me angry.........
"Due to this unfortunate incident and as a token of appreciation to you as our customer, we will offer you a full refund of your purchase or an exchange for any S7 range. We will also collect the defective device from your home so you don’t need to worry about returning it"
There is no "token of appreciation" here at all samsung!!! You are offering me nothing at all and that's just not on I'm afraid.
O2 are the same but worse, they have collected my not told me to contact them at least 24 hours after the call to talk an upgrade or cancellation I contacted them today nearly 48 hours after that call and basically got told they would refuse to do anything for 3-5 days until they actually had received and checked the device. they also offered no help with lost money for things like screen protectors and other accessories so needless to say I will never be using them again. they didn't even offer a token gesture discount on an alternative device.
so I've said they can go fornicate a rusty pole and and took up the 20% monthly discount my works offers on EE to get the Pixel XL.
Similarly composed letter in Estonia too.
Returned everything and disappointed. Will think not twice, but five times before buying Samsung products in future.
Makes me wonder what are they smoking to believe that europeans are happy to be treated worse than rest of the world.
I was just pushed a message which directed me to call Samsung on the 0330 number. Called them. Lines are closed even though it says open to 6pm saturday. Used the number ending in 1000, guy on the end said to power down phone and I will get a call back from them. I asked if they had thought this through. How do i get a call back without a phone to use. I need the money to buy a phone but cant get the refund until a long time after I have sent this one back.
This is going from bad to worse isn't it.
I was disappointed with Samsung about the faulty Note 7s, but I was not angry with them since they made some design or manufacturing mistakes which to an extent you could argue were out of their control. Or at the very least, which were not forseen.
But as they continue to mismanage this situation in this cack-handed way, I am most certainly starting to get angry. As stated in the thread earlier, people need time to plan for swapping their phones out. These are not toys, for which there is mild or no inconvenience if you are without it for a few days. These are serious pieces of equipment people rely upon in their daily lives.
I won't be returning mine any time soon.
I'm angry that they offered the s7e at full price. Not even a discount for our troubles. To add insult you can get the s7e cheaper elsewhere too
Most odd. In this European country the Note 7 cost 880.00€. The S7 edge cost 100.00€ LESS so hardly a fair exchange! Obvious thing to do is accept the cash back offer. Like you guys and gals I am also out of pocket big time on original Samsung accessories. Samsung in Europe have not made this an acceptable return have they. End of the day we, the consumer, have lost out on this as well as Samsung Korea.
One thing for sure, don't let the politics of the situation get in the way. Return your Note 7. Left a bitter taste in my mouth.
Ryland
its all in stages, just wait.
it was recall with refund or exchange only.
then exchange + $50 voucher
then exchange + 250 visa credit card,
and now exchange + $350 visa card, getting really hard to say no...
Mentioned the same in the other thread about UK recall.
I've tweeted them asking why it's different to the US recall.
I would be very interested to know how any complaints from guys here develop. People need to phone them and complain, get angry, threaten them by informing them you will go to every tech website and report this pathetic customer service attitude to them.
I am sick of Samsung treating the UK and Europe like we are not as important as the rest of the world. We pay more for the phone, we get less special offers, we haven't got Samsung Pay here yet, we didn't get the Note 5 and now we don't get any compensation. Just a lame email that makes it seems they are doing us a huge favour by giving us a refund! The least they could do is give us a hefty discount on the S7 Edge.
It makes me sick in the stomach.
.
so annoying .. carphone whorehouse want me to take my N7 back and have the £99 deposit back.
as far as there concerned the extra I've already been charged on my tariff doe not come into it.
so they want me to downgrade to a S7.. i had a N5 before all this which i now wish i had kept !
if i had wanted a S7 i would of bought one !!
so now its all lose lose ..
See how easy it is to complain about compensation
Guys,
I have put a post up here on XDA urging UK consumers to complain about not receiving any compensation in line with other countries.
Please take a look and please at least give it a go at following the instructions. It's really quick and simple. It may or may not get anywhere but it's certainly worth trying.

yep how this recall has been handled in the UK is a massive joke, I've already told O2 where they can go since they refuse to release my account or let me upgrade for best part of a week, basically wanting to leave me without a phone. I realise the problem has likely happened the same with all suppliers in the UK, but I'm pissed off so I'm leaving them and going else where.
for those at carphone warehouse it should be possible to get a full refund and your contract dropped to a monthly sim only contract, they can't force you to take a alternative, it is the same reason O2 had to give the option of a full refund and potential cancellation because the phone has to be returned meaning you are not getting any goods so need a full refund for those goods, the problem with the likes of carphone warehouse is the contracts include the device charge in the service charge so you lose your monthly payments that should go towards the phone, I was slightly better off on O2 as the phones are a separate credit agreement so O2 is forced to cancel it and refund me all payments I've made on it, the problem being they are going to drag it out that long I will have made another payment they will have to refund me instead of just clearing the phone off now as it has been picked up by the courier for return.

I am one of the lucky ones I suppose. I got mine from ee one of the first to have pre ordered, the when the 1st exchange kicked in was given 50£ for my troubles and 30 quid for accessories refund. I also got free 8gb data as ee expected a delay in delivery. Second time round I was offered a choice of upgrade for the exact same deal I had on a note 7 to get a iPhone 7 plus (grr iPhone yes I know), but it's the wife who chose it as she fancied something new. Having upgraded before the handset was exchanged left ee in a dilemma as they could not then give me a loan phone because the iPhone 7 plus won't be available until end of October possibly. They then asked me to send the note 7 handset back in for the recall and wait for my iPhone 7 plus. I advised them I had no other handset. They tried all the usual please use a previous handset and I stuck to my guns. They then offered me 50 quid to purchase a new handset as a I await for the iPhone 7 and laughed back at the chap that how could I buy a handset for 50 quid. After negotiating and arguing was given 150 quid credit for a handset as a I await my iPhone 7,so definitely benefitted from this nightmare.

I am one of the lucky ones I suppose. I got mine from ee one of the first to have pre ordered, the when the 1st exchange kicked in was given 50£ for my troubles and 30 quid for accessories refund. I also got free 8gb data as ee expected a delay in delivery. I think this has been an unprecedented issue for all involved especially second party networks like ee. Initially when the second recall was kicking in ee didn't know what to do, which is why I ended up getting nearly 250 quid from this whole mess so can't complain.

both recalls O2 has refused to part with a penny or even offer help in a reasonable time frame, hell just to get through to the line they said I had to phone immediately I spent over an hour on hold, honestly their customer service throughout has been terrible and a total waste of space, achieving nothing other than alienating their customers.

RMA Hell with Google Support (Non Google Play device)

Hopefully, I will find help here.
ADDED INFO:
- Phone was bought from a local shop which is an authorized Bell dealer. The phone was bought off contract at full price. The phone was not bought from Google Play Store
So since I've opened the case with Google Support (from the settings menu on the phone). It's been almost two week. Here's the rundown.
I’ve contacted them three times, I have to repeat the same issues over and over. Google Support confirmed me that they were a call center located in the Philippines.
-Call #1: Talked to Nate (amazing dude) said that he was going to print me the RMA to send the labels to my email. I have to send the phone first and then I'll get the replacement soon. There was a problem to produce my RMA labels. He said he will call me back with a solution. He called me back saying there was an issue will escalated the issue.
Waited 3 days
-Call #2: I contacted them another time since I didn’t get any updates since. They ask to verify my account by providing them the 4 last digits of my credit card? Again, repeat the same thing. They can't generate the RMA tag. The issue has been escalated since the day of the call.
-Call #3: They asked me the IMEI of my Nexus 5 (lol what ?)... Again guy can't generate the tag. The issue has been escalated since a while now. I’m super sad.
- Chat session #1 and #2: Talked with a supervisor says he will get back to me with a solution. Sent me two emails, then silence. Same deal.
So far… very disappointed with Google. I mean, I didn’t buy it from the Google Play store, but I was expecting some premium level of customer service at that price tag. Hell, I could walk into a Apple or Samsung store and get it replaced.
I cannot believe that I'm getting this kind of service from a company like that.
UPDATE of January 30th
- Label was finally processed on January 24th
- Phone was shipped on January 25th
- Google received my Pixel on January 27th
- Google Shipping department confirmed they approved the replacement, I should expect my shipping tag in 1 -2 business days.[/I]
UPDATE of February 07
- I did not receive my phone. I have many exchanges with Google but nothing sent out yet. Just support saying its 'in process or has been escalated'
I feel the same way when I try and chat amazon support. I work in tech support for the other A company so I know how to be clear and simple when contacting support. I tell them my issue and provide ant details they will need like my order number. They respond back asking for my order number..
Don't ever use email or chat with Amazon. Call them. It's not easy to find the number on their site but its there. BTW, their # 1 (888) 280-4331
To the OP, if you didn't buy from Google did you buy from VZ? If not, where did you get it? If not an authorized seller, that may be your problem.
Just curious, what is the problem with the phone?

Why do you think you will find help here? This is XDA not Google. Something is missing in your story and I'm not sure what it is. I'm also not sure what Apple and Samsung have to do with this. Or then again...

I'm looking to see if others did an RMA with a non-Google Play purchased phone to sum it up. Also, if they had the same troubles that I got.

Massive burn-in on the three softkey buttons. I can see them everywhere except the home screen. Indeed, I bought the phone from a local shop downtown which isn't Verizon.
I hate I have to ask this... but is it real? I mean buy a super popular phone from a random vendor for all we know the guy could have dropped it in the toilet then repackaged, could be flipping damaged units from ebay, **** there might even be fake ones idk. The point is without a vendor we know anything about it's hard to say with certainty that it is google's fault.

Well that clears it up a bit. You might want to go down to your local shop and demand a refund or open a BBB case against them if they refuse. I, personally, have never seen a local shop selling a Pixel or an XL. Why would you do that? Nonetheless, you can't blame Google, as you did in the OP, if they won't warranty a third party sale. Apple would repair and replace it for free? I think not.
Regardless of where it was purchased, Google should back up their hardware as it still has a Manufacturer's warranty. Besides, Google themselves already took responsibility of the replacement in the first call with Nate.
This is somewhat pathetic customer support.

It's 100% legit. The phone isn't a cheap Chinese knockoff. I verified the model number with my friend and they both match. Google says there is no problem with the warranty of the phone just it can't generate the shipping labels for me to send back the device.

I will try to contact the local shop where it was originally purchased but it's past the 30 days warranty. I bought this phone second hand and the previous owner has been a real gentleman by constantly providing me info and receipts one his purchase. It has been 3 weeks, and he's still contacting me to know if the issue as been resolved. The local shop is an authorized Bell dealer and carries the Google Pixel XL and Pixel. He bought it off contract, full price.
I dunno why you get so fired up with this, I'm not dishing anything on Google, I'm just trying to find someone with the same issue. Plus, even if let's the phone has "something" wrong with it... 2 weeks and no answer from a company is unacceptable. Also, why I purchased from secondhand? Because I've saved over 500$ instead of purchasing it through Google Play store because here in Canada they go for 1207.05$ with taxes.

I agree. But even if I call them up, it's still the same discussion over and over. I can't even escalate this issue, I don't know where to find a mailing address for it.
Something still just doesn't seem right. Not generating a shipping label is no reason to not have an RMA number. (wow triple negative) Meaning you should have an rma number nonetheless. Ship it yourself at that point. I don't believe they ever had a return authorization for you which is why you are now stuck with the device. Second, you bought it from a Bell authorized store yet you have the contact of the original seller? So this store sells second hand / used phones? What the heck kind of store does that, a consignment store? It's time to either realize that you have a defective device and live with it (after all you did save $500) or contact the store and/or seller for a refund. I believe Google has figured out what happened and will not support a second hand device. Could be wrong and you will magically have some luck but I wouldn't count on it. That's why they are avoiding your calls.
I had this problem with the first gen Moto 360, I bought it off Amazon but apparently not from Amazon and they wouldn't repair a screen defect under warranty. They verified it was genuine but they wouldn't fix it.

Based upon this it seems to me that used devices aren't covered under warranty, there's no mention of transfer of warranty that I can find in the document though local laws may govern here. I could imagine things would be even more dire if a phone was purchased within the US and sold outside of it.
Time to get your money back. Maybe the original owner can get it fixed and then sell it back to you. Good luck.

I think you're out of luck. Google can rest on its warranty fine print.

It's a simple fact Google is no apple but have the nerve to charge the same price. Wannabe apple!
I've had issues with Google before and have lost confidence in their customer services.
Keep pestering them until they sort out even write to them. Speak to manager demand to speak to managenent, it's completely unexceptable ignoring your issue.

He did not buy it from an authorized dealer. He is SOL. Check the warranty. It sucks for him but no one here can help him. He needs to work with the seller, not Google. The warranty was violated. That's game over from a Google perspective.

Apple would not do anything different than what Google did. Don't kid yourself. They also have a right to sell their phones for whatever price they want. You don't like it, don't buy it. We got spoiled with the older devices but that ship has sailed. The OP needs to realize he got screwed in order to save a few hundred bucks. It was a gamble that he lost.

You can walk into Apple store whether you bought it from your uncle or an alien, as long as it's not reported stolen and within warranty your issue will be resolved.
Google is a bit of a joke simple as that, btw I'm an android fan but not a fanboy of any particular company. I just don't like people being ripped off.

Really? Walk right in and get an exchange? You mean after you have to schedule with a "genious"? So I make my appointment and they run the IMEI and find it has a block? Think they will replace it? You may not like the Google warranty but you accepted it when you purchased the phone. I know most don't read it but that is Google's fault?
And what does the OP think anyone here can do to help him except to suggest he take it back? They saved some money and now he has a problem. Saving money is great but it comes with a risk.
