Introducion
In this tutorial i will show you how to get the Honeycomb look on your Archos Gen8 device
It`ll maked with Launchers/Widgets/Apps so it isnt a real framework but it looks nearly exactly like Honeycomb (see the Photos on 3rd post )
The performance of your homescreen and/or launcher will reduce, i have with the apps running required for the look, but no other, 106 MB free memory. So it needs 20-30 MB of memory.
I already made the look very less-memory using. I dont see more improvements on this, if you know one, please report!
I know the installation tutroial looks very very long, but i wrote it, like always, really step by step, so every tiny tap is written It is worth the work, trust me.
Thanks goes to:
jjhiza for actually have the idea for this, i just "re-masterd" his tutorial for the galaxy tab specially for our devices. (Original thread linked below)
julbra18 for show me the tutorial of jjhiza. (Original thread linked below)
So if you still want the look, please follow the following steps
Have fun!
Greets,
Lenn

Installation
Please follow each of the following steps!
1) Download this file to your PC or Archos: http://www.mediafire.com/?09thrr8r48n9unn
2) Extract the 2 folders out of it.
3) In the folder "apps" are the apks of the free apps required.
4) You have to purchase "Launcher Pro Plus (Unlocker)" from market. You have to install the normal Launcher Pro firstly free, than install the Unlocker. It is really worth the money.
5) Install all apps.
6) Select Launcher Pro as your standart Home Application by tapping the home soft button.
7) Clear all Homescreens. (Shortcuts)
8) Long-Tap all Dock-Icons >> Change Shortcut >> Blank except the top one.
9) Go to Launcher Pro Plus preferences. (Menu Soft Button >>Preferences)
10) Homescreen Settings >> Number of columns/rows = 10
11) Auto-fit Items = Check
12) Go to the Homescreen(s).
13) Change the wallpaper to the provided one out of the folder "pics".
14) Create a One More Clock Widget (4x2). ( Long-Tap on blank space )
15) Click on the widget and do Personalize Clock >> Menu Soft Button >> Toggle Visibility and go back to homescreen. (Apply Changes)
16) Rescale (long pres on Widget) the Widget to 2x1 and put it right in the middle of the "Bar" at the bottom.
17) Do this on all (normally 3) homescreens.
18) Create a Desktop Visualizer Widget (1x1) ( Long-Tap on blank space ) and click on the created widget.
19) Choose Symbol >> Image File and choose "battery_indicator.png" from the folder "pics".
20) Assigned Task >> None | OK
21) Place the widget so far on the right as you can on the bar.
22) Do exactly the same with "wifi_indicator.png" and place it next to the Battery Widget.
23) Rescale the Wifi Widget, that it is right next to the Battery Widget. (~10px near)
24) Create a Minimal Text Widget: (1x1)
25) Once you are in the menu of the widget (automatically) uncheck "Show Background".
26) Predefined layout >> Custom layout... | Custom layout
27) Put the 3 predefined elements in trash. (Long-Tap and put down)
28) Press the green plussign on the right.
29) Battery >> Battery (Free translated from german, choose the one without "part 1" or "part 2" at the end)
30) Put it on the "list" above. (Long-Tap)
31) Press on the square you just putted above and set "Stil" to "Accented".
32) Go back to homescreen and put the new Widget right over the Battery Widget (Desktop Visualizer) and rescale it, that the text/number is right over the battery icon, but below the Wallpaper. (in the bar)
33) Create the Wifi-Widget (Minimalistic Text) like the Battery one, but:
33.1) Choose the Horizontal block and Horizontal text to "right".
33.2) Choose Misc >> Static Text instead of the Battery info and write something in there, it is similar what you write.
33.3) Choose "tap behavior section" and select out of the list Settings >> Wifi-Settings.
34) Go back to homescreen and put the new widget right above the wifi widget (Desktop Visualizer) and re-scale it, that it is "over" the wifi and the battery widget. (Both Desktop Visualizer)
35) Erase the text out of the wifi-widget by just delete the "Static text" element.
36) Do steps 24) to 34) on every homescreen.
37) Create a Desktop Visualizer. (3x1)
38) Choose Symbol >> Image File and choose "search.png" from the folder "pics".
39) Assigned Task >> Launch Task >> Search | Press CLEAR | Highlight Style >> None | OK
40) Re-scale the new widget to 3x2 and put it in the top-right corner. (The *.png should be ~ 20px below the top of the screen)
41) Do the same with "apps_bar.png" but:
41.1) Select Assigned Task >> None instead of "Search".
42) Do step 37-41 on every homescreen.
43) Long-Press the top "left-bar" icon, normally it is the browser.
44) Select Change Shortcut >> App Drawer
45) Select Custom icon and select "apps_plus.png".
46) Long-Press on a blank space on homescreen.
47) Choose Shortcut >> Applications >> Perfect Task Switcher
48) Touch the standart icon to change it.
49) Select "windows-png".
50) Erase everything out of the text field and hit OK.
51) Create again 2 shortcuts with "arrow.png" and "home.png", but select these 2 apps you use the most of the time (f.e. i use Dolphin and ebuddy) and erase again everything out of the text field.
52) Now put the 3 shortcuts in the "bottom-left" corner in following order: Arrow | Home | Windows
53) Do step 46-52 on every homescreen.
54) Now its done! You just need to set your personal prefernces in the Launcher Pro Plus menu. I use:
55) Launcher Pro Plus Preferences >> Homescreen settings >> Homescreen Looping = None
56) Launcher Pro Plus Preferences >> Homescreen settings >> Transition effect = Flip 2
57) Launcher Pro Plus Preferences >> Advanced settings >> High quality scrolling = Not Checked
58) Launcher Pro Plus Preferences >> Appearance settings >> Hide notification bar = Checked
59) Launcher Pro Plus Preferences >> Appearance settings >> Hide icon labels = Checked
60) Launcher Pro Plus Preferences >> Appearance settings >> Highlight color - focused = 0
61) Launcher Pro Plus Preferences >> Appearance settings >> Highlight color - pressed = 0
62) Launcher Pro Plus Preferences >> Appearance settings >> Highlights style = Glow
Thats it!
Notes:
I prefer to you to Backup the Launcher Pro Plus homescreen and settings, so that you just have to put the files (pics) in the same directory like ine your first setup of this theme and restore the backup file in the main menu of Launcher Pro Plus. (You also backup in the main menu.)
I hope everyone have understood the tutorial, otherwise please report it, i will help you with the problems!
Greets,
Lenn

16) Rescale (long pres on Widget) the Widget to 2x1 and put it right in the middle of the "Bar" at the bottom.
Lenn, I am long pressing but I can only expand to make it larger, not smaller

Nice work... but what is the point of redoing a tutorial that already exist????

I know,
i made it because the original has much more apps required, so it needs more meory of the device
on the galaxy tab this isnt a problem because it has 1gb memory but on our 256 mb it is a problem
so i improved it by find other solution for some apps, so the theme is faster
Edit:
I added 3 settings that i have set, with these you disable the highlight when you press an app/shortcut.
Greets,
Lenn

what i should make better?..

a. Ultimate Theme Released ( read slightly below ). This will probably be the last release as I'm now comtemplating to jump over the new TF3D theme.
------------------------------------------------------------
THEME FOR STANDARD TF3D ( DO NOT INSTALL ON DUTTYS ROM )
This is my first post here. Thought I share this wt you all. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank some folks here which has made this possible. Below is a complete dump of my post in modaco link.
PLEASE READ INSTRUCTION HERE BEFORE INSTALLING
Here it is.....the complete TF3D package for your Touch HD. This theme has a fully functional analog, a working mini-flipclock, extended appointments, all 15 tabs and wallpaper can be updated with a press of a button for all background. The bottom bar opacity has been fixed. It is now 100% solid and I have done the same for the top bar as well.
Operator text now works. Read further below.
I apologize for the earlier mistake that during the rush of releasing this, I've overlooked and messed up some files. My intention here is to enable a fully customizable TF3D theme for everybody. So, pls read carefully and follow each instruction to get to the theme that you desire.
FIRST STEP......RESET TO ORIGINAL THEME FIRST
If you do not do this, there's no guarantee that this theme will work properly
Reseting To Original Theme Guide
Thks a million to Blessed HD. Here's the easy way to reset back to your default theme. Install Diamond TF3D Config program. You can find it in XDA. Go to the "Appearance" Tab and do a restore to default. It will automatically delete all the manila and related files.
PLS CHECK THAT YOUR ORIGINAL THEME WORKS FINE BEFORE GOING TO THE NEXT STEP!!
Installation Guide
It is not easy to make everybody happy but the closest I can do is to allow you to choose what to install. I have now broken down the key components that you need to install step by step. Drop whatever you don't want and only select those that you need. Below is a list of files and their description.
To install these files, simply copy the cab to anywhere on your mobile and click on it. Soft reset afterwards. Should you have any difficulty re-installing after multiple times, go to \windows\appmgr and delete the folder "Max Your Application Name".
1. Max Complete TF3D - Main.cab
This is the main file which will give you the analog clock, extended appointments and changeable wallpaper. The number of tabs remain as the original 11 tabs. This will the basic of my theme. You will still need to download the analog clock package which I will make available. In future, I will also create different configuration theme so that when you are bored wt this, you can always change to another look.
Remember to go and download the analog clock package to complete the theme. I have attached one analog clock package for you here. There's a selection of analog clocks on my modaco link.
NEXT, select a wallpaper to fill up the background. Go to your SETTINGS tab and choose a wallpaper ( anyone that you like ). There are already some default wallpapers that comes along with your phone.
That should complete the whole installation!!
Below are some pictures of how the theme configuration looks like. More theme configuration will come later.

AGAIN, DO NOT GO TO THE NEXT STEP UNTIL THIS PORTION WORKS FINE FOR YOU!!!
NEW UPDATE : Operator text has been solved.....finally. It now works perfectly and refreshed realtime. All cabs have been updated with this fix since 15Feb except for the main cab. Since some of you preferred to have your own text up there, I will leave the current main cab available.
----------------------------------------
2. Max Complete TF3D - 15Tabs.cab
THERE HAS BEEN REPORTS THAT THIS MAY NOT BE WORKING PROPERLY IN SOME PHONE CONFIGURATION. IF YOU ARE REALLY DYING FOR THIS, DO AT YOUR OWN RISK. SHOULD IT FAIL, RESTORE YOUR PHONE BACK TO ORIGINAL WITH THE ABOVE RESTORE METHOD.
This cab will extend your tabs to a total of 15. Even without installing the Main cab, you should get the additional 15 tabs minus all the goodies that you get with the main. Additional tabs added are as below.<br />
a. Calendar
b. Sound Setting
c. Call History
d. Comms-Manager
-----------------------------------------
3. Max Complete TF3D - Main Config 2.cab
If you are already bored with the original main theme, here's another one for you to play with. You can install this cab with or without the main.cab. Here's a pic of how it looks like.
------------------------------------------
4. Max Complete TF3D - Main Config 3.cab
Another configuration with optimized space for a slightly larger analog clock. Clock position now swapped. Date placed on titlebar. All analog clocks on goodies section should work. You can install this cab with or without main.cab
------------------------------------------
5. Max Complete TF3D - Ultimate Theme
This theme is an enhancement of the main.cab theme. It has the same positioning as the main.cab but with an additional feature and one easter egg.
1. You can now edit your own text on the top left corner. Default "My Touch HD". To change the text, pls refer to my tutorial in my modaco link.
2. Operator text works perfectly on your top right corner.
3. Analog clock will trigger your alarm settings.
Easter egg - Your analog clock can move by press+hold on it. However, I could not make it to stick after releasing. If anyone manage to find a way, pls let me know
. Only way to get it back on position is to relaunch your TF3D or soft reset.
The "Ultimate Theme - Basic" cab only changes the settings for those who wants to setup their own theme entirely. You will need to add your own analog clocks, etc.
However, to further enhance the theme, I have released another cab which I named "Ultimate Blue Theme.cab". Unfortunately, I do not know why I could not upload the cab here. So, you will have to download from my modaco link.
In this cab, I've changed the bars and bubbles to blue and add a new transparent clock with blue tip and white on transparent flipclock. I did not touch the taskbar and tabs icons as this is very much a personal taste and it will be very difficult to please everyone. So, I would rather let you customize yourself.
In addition, I have selected some of my favourite wallpapers which will be installed on your \storage card\max wallpaper folder. By using the "Diamond Background Changer Installer", you can now automatically cycle your wallpapers over a periodic time through all your tabs. The installation process is as below.
1. Download and install "Diamond Background Changer Installer". ( could be anywhere on your phone )
2. Startup the Diamond program. Change the folder destination to : \storage card\max wallpapers\
3. You can also set periodic time here. Press "Schedule" to activate it once. Then exit.
4. Now install the "Ultimate Blue Theme.cab" on your device. (Cab can be uninstalled ). Soft reset.
5. After re-boot, your theme should look like below screen and your wallpaper will cycle through based on the periodic time that you set.
------------------------------------------
PROBLEM REPORTING
Should you come across any problems ( I suggest you chk thoroughly by following my instruction above first ) before you post them. If you did, pls consider sending a screen or more information or else it is very difficult for me to fix the problem if I don't see it myself.
GOODIES
I am slowly putting up goodies like analog clocks, flipclocks and others packages for you to dress up the theme. You can download frm the modaco link above.
could you please upload cabs here also ?
Thanks, the analog clock looks really nice!!
Could you explain to me how I can change back to my provider name in the right top corner (now it says: my Touch HD).
Thx!
Furthermore, how to remove the theme??
It doesn't show up in "remove programs" :S
Hi.
I installed it and it looks very nice but i have one Problem. After Softreset i cannot change something in CommManager Tab. I cannot turn on WiFi etc. After Pressing Menu and then go to Wifi Menu and turn it on Wifi turns on and then i am able to change everything in Comm Manager Tab. Perhaps you can explain it.
MfG Uro
Would it be possible to apply just the clocks? I don't really want the rest of the theme but the clocks look nice.
thanks
thanks great work, specialy the orginal htc theme
WOW... thnx Maxycy!!! You sure did something amazing for us
Your analog and flip clock works great on my HD (CHT HK ROM)
It works great with my still under-construction "Metal Glass" theme and taskbar (which on-hold for 3-months, that's another story )
Keep up you great work mate
Most of the issues mentioned so far has been addressed.....I hope
As for the future, there's plan to only release clocks and other things minus all the other files. That's the whole reason for this as you can now more or less customize your own theme to your own liking.
Ok...I call it a day for now.
yeah, i love the clock most too~~is there any way i can just install the cloak?

Nice work.
Can we have a transparent slider on the black theme?
The theme works well with black wallpaper but if you choose another the effect is not as great.
Many thanks

Hi Urokinase.
Installed with no problems, the Comm-Manager screen works ok I like the slow sliding animation when a feature is activated.
Hi, I try this and now my TF3D don't start ( any solution?
My screen keeps being white.. even after i changed the wallpaper to black or abstract.. it stays white / grey?
working perfect for me, no white background or other stuff ppl have reported except the wifi thing which i havent tested yet, it shows in the new 15 tab, other than that its abit slow i kno its called the touch flo 3d but this may sound strange is it using any 3d acceleration cos i'm using the ati driver posted somwhere in the forum.
EDIT; the wifi does not work in the comm tab, also there is no data connection there, other than that its ok, and looks slick, good job.
what does 15 tabs mean? What other menu items are added?

MIUI for Beginners

Already flashed MIUI ROM? OK, pick up your phone now, let’s start our happy journey of MIUI ROM.
The first step: selecting apps
Various apps will greatly enrich your cell phone, so firstly let’s select the apps to your taste. Use the Android Market and download what you would like. If you are using a backup app and restoring apps from a previous ROM, only restore the apps and not the data. Otherwise that will create a lot of force close issues.
Tip: How to copy files from the computer to the phone? First connect your phone to your computer via data cable, pull down the notification panel from the top of the phone, click “USB connected”, and then click "Turn on USB storage”.
After copying, do not forget to select the option of “Turn off USB storage”, otherwise "File Manager” in the phone will not be able to find the sd card, as it is being occupied by the computer.
Now I have a lot of apps, how to put them in order?
All apps successfully installed are listed on the desktop, however, they may not be in the order you want, how to put them in order?
Long press an app icon and then you may move it freely. When it is moved to the screen border, the screen will automatically switch to the next screen.
How to add a screen? Use two fingers to pinch on the desktop to enter screen thumbnail mode. Then you may add or delete screens.
How to delete an app? Long press the app icon you want to delete, drag it on top of the trash box and click OK to delete it.
The second step: let's make your phone different.
A phone without style is nothing remarkable, so let’s make your phone different!
Changing wallpaper: Click Menu button on the desktop, select “Change Wallpaper” to replace the wallpaper. In addition to the existing wallpaper in the phone, thousands of pieces of wallpaper are also available online.
Changing theme: Themes make great changes to your interface style. Click “Theme Manager” on the desktop to select the theme you like. Also, more online themes are available online.
Selecting ringtones and more: click “Settings” on the desktop to set call and notification ringtones. In “Personalization” under “Personal” tab, you may find more options.
The third step: it’s time for some advanced techniques!
Well, you are no longer a beginner now, so let’s learn some advanced techniques.
Adding widgets on the desktop: press the Menu button on the desktop, select "Edit Mode", and then click the icon on the upper right corner to access the interface of “Add Widgets”. Choose your favorite widget on the top, and then drag it to the screen below.
Using folders to manage desktop apps: in the interface of “Add Widgets”, drag [Folder] to the desktop. You may drag multiple apps into folders to classify them. After opening the folder, you may click the edit icon in the upper left corner to rename the folder.
Using toggles panel to improve efficiency: drag the notification panel down from the top, click "Toggles" to go to the toggles panel (It goes to the toggles panel in default of notice.) On the panel are listed the most commonly used toggles, you may click to quickly enable or disable a toggle. Long press on the icon will launch the settings for that icon.
Guest mode: enable the “Guest Mode” toggle in the panel, and your calls and text messages logs will be hidden, and all installed applications cannot be removed. You may have a try when you need to show your phone to guests or children.
Importing contacts or binding accounts: you may use some apps to import a batch of contacts, or bind Google account directly in "Settings"> "Personal"> "Accounts & Sync Settings" to sync contacts at any time.
How to print screens? Press "Menu" key and "Volume Down" key at the same time to print a screen. The printed image is saved in the directory of MIUI in the SD card.
How to copy files from the computer without using the data cable? In case of a Wi-Fi connection, enter “File Manager” on the desktop, select the tab of "Remote Administration" to start the service, and then you will get an address. Enter the given address on the computer, then you may copy files without using a data cable!
Core Features
MIUI HOME
Two-layer shortcuts and program icons are integrated into one-layer desktop.
Long press on an icon to enter edit mode, open Widgets and drag it to the target screen.
Drag the app you want to uninstall to the top of the trash box to delete it.
Eight kinds of flipping screens effects are available with gorgeous animations.
T9 dialer

I think I might leave cyanogen for this lol
*edit* so tried this out for a couple of hours
The ui is beautiful and the rom overall is smooth, but got a lot of fc from the theme chooser, nofication setting and when making phone calls.

You should. Like I've said before, after trying many many ROM's, I've come to the conclusion that MIUI is EVERYTHING that I want in my phone and there will be no looking back to any other ROM's out there.
OMG OMG OMG official miui..... not a port....
Does the official rom still have the theme engine problem? I didnt see it in the changelog, and it was the only thing keeping me from using the miui ports.

Miui Rocks....it was the first Rom that truly set itself apart from CM roms and the like. It was my dd for a while but updates started coming out that required full rlashing, it became pointless. It seems that they are a lot more stable now....might come bqck and check them out again.
OP incredible job on the detail of your posts. One car certainly tell that you are not just theming and calling it a new tommy....cheers!

does MIUI have a good calendar/agenda app? I can't find one that beats Sense or Go Launcher EX at the moment.
Agenda Widget Plus and Pure Grid Calendar aren't as smooth or as well integrated =/
So beautiful and so tempting but it seems that it will never ever manage to utilize the functionality of the G2's Quick Keys =(

Same. Also does that when changing ringtones for notifications, though they do seem to apply anyway.

Should be fixed with today's (Friday) build.
With all due respect, what is the benefit of an 'official' MIUI ROM over any of the currently-maintained ports such as OsiMood? It does not seem like we are going to get G2-specific features like Quick Keys or Tab working.
Is the performance any better than these 'unofficial' ports?

This being official, I would assume that they are going to look at the g2 specific features a bit more?
Maybe I'm just being optimistic
Ima give the 3 roms a whirl, finally.
My phone number: Unknown
One issue I've noticed with this as well is that it can't read my phone number from the SIM card. That can cause issues with certain apps that require it (like TikL, for example).
Menu > Settings > System > About Phone > More information > Status
For me, that shows "My phone number: Unknown". And yes, I am sure my phone number is present on the SIM.

MIUI for Beginners
Source: http://en.miui.com/a-10.html

So Is this rom based in CM7 or not?
Is there a bug list for this rom?
Thanks
Is there a chance that this might be adopted for an official MIUI for the Captivate?
Oo shiny, I'm thinking this build of MIUI is playing nice with my screen this time.
Rather annoying being unable to answer calls cause the screen doesn't respond to touch.. Time to put the miui.us build on my Milestone

This pretty unknown launcher could be considered as the evolution of Lightning Launcher. The Stock Layout sucks but who cares - if you are into theming, this is the launcher for you!
Features:
- LIGHT (1MB!!!) and blazing fast
- App Drawer Page on Homescreen
- Freely customizable Icons on Homescreen AND App Drawer
- Scrolling vertically on every page if you want it!
- No more Desktop Visualizer - easily resize your Icons and make awesome tiles!
- NO MORE GRIDS! Freely align widgets and shortcuts, even with Overlapping!
- Pretty much every feature you could ask for!
I barely see any themers using this launcher as it is pretty unknown (100.000 Downloads only), but on screenlicious you get a glimpse of what can be done:
TUTORIALS:
0. Preparations
1. Creating Tiles
2. Icons, Wallpapers and Background
3. Creating Previews
4. Rounded Tiles
0. Preparations
There is some unneccessary stuff on SSLauncher. First, you should get rid of all the homescreens except for one, because the given templates are - sorry - horrible. You will most likely only use a Homescreen-Page and an Apps-Page.
To Delete a page, simply tap on your "Menu"-Button, select "Pages" and then "delete page".
Afterwards, you might want to get rid of the labels. They are handy if you use a lot of pages, but for really minimal results you should hide them.
To hide labels on top (only free-version - paid version has an option for it), hit the "Menu"-Button again, select "Pages" and choose "Label Fonts&Style".
Set the Font size to "10", then disable shadows if neccessary (set Shadow "Radius" to 0) and change the opacity of Active/Inactive Color to zero as well - simply
tap on the arrows on the right side in the "Active Color" / "Inactive Color" and set the Value "opacity" to zero.
To hide the status bar, tap on "Menu"-Button, "Preferences" and "Fullscreen". There you can also choose "Ignore page background" to get rid of the layer on the background page.
1. How to create your own Tiles
Needed:
GIMP 2.0
SSLauncher
TypoClock Free Widget
Weather Eye
Let's face it - it really sucks if your UI depends on the Wallpaper too much and if you have to build UI-elements into it. Every time you want to change your wallpaper, you have to
edit the PSD again too and this can be very annoying - not to mention the issue with Live-Wallpapers.
SSLauncher has 2 very unique features to avoid this: First, you can resize any widgets/icons FREELY, as there is NO GRID. Second, you can even let widgets/icons OVERLAP.
Basically, you only need a Tile and (optional) some content.
I want to give you a quick tutorial on how to use GIMP 2.0 for this purpose - I am a total noob by myself but this stuff is REALLY easy to learn.
Working with layers makes your life a lot easier. The awesome thing about customizing is, that you can get templates and lot of PSDs for free in the
internet, so you won't need to have epic-editing-skills but can edit the files as you need them. So download GIMP 2.0, and install it (it's free of course).
So here is how I create my tiles:
These 2 Guys are going to be your best friends and you wont be using much except for some tools. I will be referring to "Toolbox" for the left one and "Layerbox"
to the right one.
Step 1: Create a new Image with the size of your screen (most likely for SGS2-Users: 480x800). This will help you to determine the actual size of your tiles.
Step 2: Choose your wallpaper. This makes it easier to imagine, how everything will look like later on. Simply drag the Image into GIMP and it will appear as a new Layer.
Step 3: Scale/Move your wallpaper as you wish and when you are satisfied with the look, rightclick on your wallpaper in the Layerbox and choose "Merge Down".
Step 4: Create a new layer - this is going to be your tile. For the one as the picture above, I used 460x160 as dimensions, so I have some space on the sides. Fill the
Layer with some color so you can easily drag it around.
Step 5: Choose the background of your tile. Basically works the same as Step 2, but you might want to open a second GIMP-window for this purpose as it makes scaling easier. Make sure to drag it into your first window while you selected the tile in the Layerbox, so the picture will be cut off to the right size.
Step 6: Create another layer for the fontbackground. Width is the same as the tile, height should be according to the size of your font (I chose 20 as height). Fill it up with
some color again (I used grey) and drag it to the right place
Step 7: Add a font by using the tool from your toolbox. This might be a little bit tricky at first, you will have to type your desired text, then mark it and THEN you will be able to change fontsize etc. . I used Geosanslight, white font, Size is 18p.
Step 8: The last thing to do is to export the tile (to use it on your phone) and add some shadow. To cut out multiple layers, simply click on the eye in the layerbox so that you can ONLY see the layers you want to edit. In our case, just remove the eye on the "Wallpaper" Layer and only the tile with the text etc. will be left. Afterwards, hit SHIFT+CTRL+C so your tile will be copied completely. Now create a new file sized the same as your tile (460x160) in our case) and insert the tile.
Step 9: Now we gonna add some shadow. Click on "Filter", "Light and Shadows" and select "Drop Shadow". A menu will popup where you can set some values. I recommend to use a smaller Radius (I use 4, but it depends on the size of your image) and less offset too (I use 2 for both X-Offset and Y-Offset), so it will look cleaner.
Step 10: The last thing you have to do is to export your file - hit CTRL+E and export is as a PNG file to your desired location. FINISHED!
If you are able to do this stuff you can do a lot of theming already with little effort!
Adding the tile to SSLauncher is pretty easy once you got used to it.
Simply hold down your finger on the homescreen till the "New Object" screen shows up. Select "Shortcut" and choose a "target", the App that should be opening when you click on the tile. Then, select a "Style" - a lot of layouts are going to pop up. As we want a pure tile you should select the Icon without any text or backgrounds. Next, click on "Icon (Change styles of icon)" , then on "Icon (Select an icon Image)" , then click on "Add an Image" and choose the tile you want. Afterwards, click on "Icon Size" and resize it.
The actual size of the tile (460x160) might be too big, but you can rescale the tile on the homescreen anyways. I experimented a bit (the "Scale" tool from GIMP 2.0 really helps with getting the right size in the right aspect ration too!) and 375x114 should be the right size for our tile. This is essential to know if you want to add a lot of tiles and want them to look
the same!
Remember to ALWAYS scroll down and click on "Apply settings", otherwise ... well, the settings won't apply. You will have to do this twice. Now the tile will appear on your homescreen and you can rescale and move it around as you wish - the arrows will help you to align the tile perfectly!
To achieve the look from above, just add the widgets to your homescreen, rescale them and move them above the tile. There you go!
2. Icons and Appdrawer
Needed:
Simple Text Icon Creator
Multi-Picture-Livewallpaper
Wallbase HD
There are a lot of different Icon-Styls with SSLauncher and you should figure out yourself what suits you best - plain Text, a Tile, Icons only, Icons and text... I just want to point out some things I noticed.
First of all, you should decide what kind of icons you want to use. I highly recommend the Jaku Icons, it's probably the easiest way to get your hands on a full set of icons. Many Icon packs lack images for certain Apps and this can be really annoying. There isn't an icon for everything on Jaku, but there is a lot of them.
Another way is to create your own Icons with Simple Text Creator. This way you can make simple Text-Icons for all of your apps, but some might not like the look.
With SSLauncher, you can edit/hide every single App manually and also hide Apps you don't have an icon for or which you don't use. There is no other launcher AFAIK where you can change the Icons in the App-Drawer manually. You can also rename, change Font-Color (at "Menu"-Button, "Theme", change the "Medium" Font") and also change the common settings for all Apps at once if you hit the "Menu"-Button, "Preferences" and scroll down to the Preferences for the "Apps" Page.
If you don't want to have the same wallpaper on your app drawer as on your homescreen, you should try Multi-Picture-Wallpaper. It allow you to set a different wallpaper for every screen. There is also an option for this in SSLauncher, but I prefer this way because it's easier. You can even decrease saturation and brightness, which looks pretty nice - I use the same wallpaper on my app drawer, but set the saturation to 40 percent.
You need to pay attention here because SSLauncher always uses 2 additional screens (one more on the left and one more on the right) which you can't see nor access. Still they are count by Multi-Picture-Wallpaper, so you need set a wallpaper for those screens too.
Finding the right wallpaper can be kind of an issue too but hey, there's an app for that. I like Wallbase HD the most, cause the wallpapers suit my taste. The App-Design is marvelous too, so it's definetly worth a try.
3. Creating a preview
Needed:
GIMP 2.0
Samsung Galaxy S2 template for the screenshots (Download attached), big thanks to Pethey, give him some credit! I just scaled it down to fit my needs.
So you got your homescreen finished and want to present it to everybody else? No Problem, just make sure to use a SGS 2 template and be proud of your phone too
There are a lot of PSDs for the SGS2 but for this purpose, I recommend mine because it is very very noob friendly and easy to edit. I basically merged all layers you wont touch anyways.
Step 1: Make some screenshots. 2 or 3 should do the work, better to have a few big screens than dozen small ones. On my ROM (Sensation Rom 3.5) you need to Hold down Power+Volumedown for a few secs. This might trigger your volume if you don't press the Powerbutton first.
Step 2: Open the Samsung Galaxy S2 - xcf which you downloaded in GIMP 2.0 and look at the Layerbox. There is a layer called "INSERT SCREEN HERE". Just DRAG your screenshot into that layer and it will fit in perfectly, I resized it to match the screenshot resolution.
Step 3: Open your desired background for your preview in GIMP 2.0. Now go back to your screenshot, click on "Edit" and then on "Copy visible layers" (or something like that, my GIMP is in german...). This will cause GIMP to copy the whole thing without having to merge the layers.
Step 4: Copy the SGS 2 with your screenshot onto your chosen background. You might need to rescale the image a bit - I chose 1280x800 as my Preview-Wallpaper and scale down the Device with the screenshot to an height of 780. Add some fonts if you want (dafont.com is a good place for getting fonts! Just download the ttf and install it like a program).
Step 5: Repeat Step 1-4 for every screenshot you want to include.
NOTICE: .XCF files are GIMP-Files. They arent pictures, cause the include layers and other informations to further edit the "project". You need to click on "File", "export to" and export it as jpeg or png to view it as an image.
4. Rounded Tiles (WebOS-Style)
Needed:
GIMP 2.0
Widgets on Screen:
Minimal Reader
Weather Eye
ACWidgets: Your Calendar
Not sure if anyone is interested but I like to experiment with different tile-styles. So here is how I create rounded ones:
Step 1: Create a new GIMP File with the size of your tile - I choose 460x160 again.
Step 2: Drag the Wallpaper for the tile into the layerbox, rightclick on the wallpaperlayer and click on "Add Alpha" -
this will be the transparent background. Delete the white background-layer, you dont need it anymore.
Step 3: Now click on "Edit" and then "Rounded corners". Reduce the radius to 14, as you only want it to be rounded a little bit.
Step 4: Click on "Edit" again, then "downsize" (or shrink or whatever) - this is the space which is left around your tile. 2-4 px will do the job.
Step 5: Hit "Edit" again, then "invert" and then on Delete or CTRL+X. This will remove the edges so you only have your rounded tile left.
Step 6: Hit SHIFT+CTRL+C to copy all visible layers. Create a new layer sized "460x160" and hit CTRL+V to paste your tile into that layer.
This is important, because if you don't do this, the actual size of the Image will be the size of your wallpaper, messing up the shadow.
Step 6: Rightclick on your Tile in the layerbox and make it to a new layer. Add some shadow - "Filter", "Light and Shadow", "Drop Shadow".
Set the offset to zero, as you want to get the shadow all around the tile.
Finished! Now export your tile and have some fun
I tried it out a while back but wasn't a fan. Interesting launcher though.

very good launcher! and some people made good themes I tried but unless. I wish they would share their themes

I added a quick tutorial how I do my tiles. I wish some dev would take this launcher and make a kickass minimalistic ROM... we got dozens of Sammys and AOKP/CM9/MIUI stuff but not a single minimalistic and elegant ROM

Awesome tutorial! Thanks! This is gonna be fun

it is quite surprising that many people did not know about this launcher.
It's awesome. But... lol is there an option to have an app drawer that isn't on the home screens?

I don't think so, but I think having the Icons on your homescreen is better anyways for accessability. You can create a Shortcut to link to your App Drawer, but you must have an App Drawer Page.

Nice launcher....just installed n used it. Will be stickin wid it for a while

I installed a free app called App Drawer.

I've never seen that app before, nice. Still I stick to the Meego Style (everything on the homescreen) but it's personal preference.

Ok after some troubles with the speaker on the PSD I finally managed to create and upload a XCF-Template to create a preview. Feel free to use it, screenshots look way more awesome like that

I agree this is the best launcher out there right now. Its still relatively new but given time, I believe it will get the attention it deserves Right now when people Google best launcher for Android, its not surprising that the mature established ones pop up the most. I love detailed theming so when I stumbled upon sslauncher by accident, it was like wow why didn't I hear about this before?? After that it was bye-bye Go Launcher...
Aaand another quick tutorial (lol they are getting shorter and shorter), this time for round tiles. Any hints and tips (espec. from Pro's) are highly appreciated! Searching for a way to replicate the White-Gradient which can be seen on iOS a lot...
Check my tumblr for inspirational UI-Designs I only choose the best of the best...

It should work with the App "Multi-Picture-Live-Wallpaper". Look for it in the Play store, here
is a link: http://goo.gl/1MWqw
How do you get this to work with Multi-Picture-Live Wallpaper? Do I have to turn anything on or off with settings? I'm liking this launcher, just need to get the wallpaper to change when swiping to each new screen. I like "5" screens (which I currently have GO set with MPL wallpaper). What should I change? All I am getting is the home screen (that is my home on GO and default), it's not scrolling or changing, just "dimming".
edit: Nevermind, don't need MPLWP, app does everything I want without it. Fantastic launcher! One of the few apps I actually "paid" for. GO is now gone.

it's maybe because you're using other device and rom, not same with me, I used CM 9, CM 10, CM 10.1 on Samsung Galaxy Wonder.

Back to homescreen then remove the uccw skin which you custom it.
Add UCCW widget again> select UCCW skin which u custom before.
VOILA, you can use the shortcut well now
notes: just do same steps to custom/edit the another skins.

-select #4 > change to #3 > click hotspot > app > select camera
