[APP] Google Car Home 2.2.1.4 - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

I've got the Car Home app working for Galaxy S2. As you can see, it is not available into Market for our phone.
Download the Car Home app and make sure you install first com.android.cardock-8-2.2.apk file.
For those of you with rooted phones, flash the Google signed package from CWM recovery. This is the package I currently have installed on my phone.
The app features the Voice Search integration, allowing you to perform various tasks like calling a contact directly with a command similar to "call Alex mobile" or "listen to Michael Jackson". It also has a cool automatic mode (Day/Night) and links with your bluetooth car system.

Tip: If you are rooted, uninstall VoiceToGo and VLingo apps, they are useless once you use Voice Search app.

Can anyone confirm if the Car Home starts automatically once you place the phone into Samsung Vehicle Dock kit? It should from what Google says... I'm going to get the dock, is damn sweet.

Confirmed. Use it every day!

Awesome! Can you tell me the feature you like most while driving? Can't wait to test it with a mount.
I updated the screenshots to show the shortcut created by apk...
I like that it starts the Google Music app, if you click on Music shortcut.

Here is a flashable zip. Flash in cwm. Will install apps to system folder.

Thanks for the new files. I really hate that I cannot get the app from the Market, so we get proper updates... Probably Samsung did not wanted the app because they went the VLingo way ("Hi Galaxy") and Google banned the app for all related models.
How I got the app working on my phone:
I Googled forever until I found a compatible cardock launcher file with 2.2.1.4, which for some reason everyone had it named CarHomeLauncher.apk instead of com.android.cardock-8-2.2.apk. Then, I exported both apps with the proper name and version assigned to each file.
Edit: I just found a Google signed package and link it to the first post. I flash it and everything works great.

awesome, thanks

Superb, loving it...
only question -
do you know if it is possible to add a direct dial for a contact?
I can add a contact, but when I press on that added contact I get the contact's options (message/call/email etc...)

Personally I use Voice Search option in Car Home. If I want to call Alex, I just say "Alex" and it will pop the contact. If anyone has other tricks, please share them.
Edit: Whoaa, I just tried the Voice Search feature: "call Alex mobile", it worked!
Works well with specific songs I want to listen to. I said "listen to Thriller":
This is a great app... I'm playing with the other Voice Search options as we speak.

Thanks!
Installed and working perfectly on Epic 4G Touch (SGX2). Thank very much!
So lame that they block us from installing it from the Market. I wonder if it's because of the car-centric crapware that gets bundled on our phone...

Yuck nasty suction mount.
Look up a Brodit Active cradle for the GS2. use inconjunction with the specific pro-clip designed for your car.
You'll never look at another brand of car mount again.

I own a Nokia CK-300 car kit, it connects through the car speakers, mute's them on phone call, connects through bluetooth and streams music through a2dp perfectly. Has a small microphone usually placed close to the driver's head. Also has a small remote control, useless with this phone (voice commands!!)
Will this app work with this car kit? I wonder if Google Car Home will accept commands through BT connection......

I don't think Google Car Home is what you think it is. All it is is essentially just a launcher with big icons which are easy to see while driving. It also allows auto-launching when it detects connection to any bluetooth device.
Any voice-activated programs are a totally separate thing.

I mean, will Google Car Home accept voice commands passing through BT connection?

Google Car Home has nothing to do with voice commands!
If you are talking about Google Voice Search, then no, I haven't found a way to get this to work through a bluetooth microphone. Would be cool, though. In any case, this is off topic and is probably discussed elsewhere.

That is simply a button which launches this app: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.voicesearch

Ok, it could have been a process controlled by Google Car Home....

Skype 3.0 Beta for Windows Mobile

Here is the introduction for the new version:

Skype 3.0 beta for Windows Mobile integrates two big features from the desktop version--file transferring and SMS. Both are welcome additions that bring the mobile VoIP application much closer in line with the newly updated desktop version, Skype 4.0 for Windows.
The SMS feature has been seamlessly added as a shortcut icon on the contact list page (it's the black circle encasing a tiny cell phone), but you can also initiate a text message by selecting "Send SMS" from the Menu options--the cost will come out of your Skype Credit. The file transfer feature is a bit more buried. To use it, select "Contact Options" from the Menu choices, and then "Send File." This will incur a data charge, so it's best to have a data plan in place before going wild with transfers.
As soon as you ship your image, song, or document out to your buddy, a new tab opens in Skype for Windows Mobile 3.0 beta that keeps track of the transfer and lets you know when your contact has accepted the download. File transfers work both ways, of course, so you'll be able to accept files sent through Skype while you're on the go--crazy photos and important business documents included. File transfer worked without a hitch over our 3G network, as did SMS. Wi-Fi will make them even faster.
After SMS and file transferring, the next biggest change is a technical one that most people shouldn't notice--the fact that you won't have to decide between downloading the version for Windows Smartphones or for Pocket PCs. A single one-size-fits-all download makes installation blissfully brainless. In addition, the beta has undergone a few understated, but useful changes to its layout, like being able to update your status, add hyperlinks to chat messages you may have missed, and the option to buy more Skype Credit.
I installed a older version of skype on my xperia. But, I cant get the voice input working on my headset. I must use my phone's mic to talk.
Is there someting i can change to use my mic on my headset instead of my phone?
Thankx
wont be long till they release the x1 panel version. (a panel is out in beta but does not seem to work at mo). i heard some panels are coming out tomorrow
Can anybody help me with my problem about the mic input on the standard headset. I cant seem to use the mic. on the headset with skype.

download the attachment and extract audioswitch.exe to your device\Program Files\new folder(any name you like)
copy audioswitch.exe and paste a shortcut at window/startup
Now you can forget your headset...
Thanks, but thats only for the audio output right? I need to know how I can use the mic input. Tried it with audioswitch but that only regulates the audio output.
If we install new beta Skype so do we need to install Skype panel?

Does it work when you make a normal phone call ? does the button works to hang up or activate voice command ?
Me and many others have the problem that X1 recognizes Headset as just earphones (whit no mic), a workaround is to plug it in while a call is placed , then it will work fine , until you unplug it or soft reset. you could test it and write back here ..
Call any one and while speaking connect the headset, now hang up and make a skype call
Shwan_3...
I haven't tried it. Last monday I returned my X1 becouse I had nothing but problems with my phone.
They sayd that the copper plate in my headphone slot was damaged and my phone kept saying that there was a headphone jack in the phone. So when i wanted to call someone i had to une my headphone :S. I hope I get my X1 back in a couple of days (they sayd 2 weeks).
It's to bad, becouse the x1 is a sweet phone! Now I'm back to my Samsung G600
Crap!
Just got my x1 back! I had to wait like 6 weeks! SonyEricsson has a terrible service center here in Holland. They had to wait for 4 weeks untill the parts came in. And the sad part is, its still busted. Cant make a deacent phone call.
Pff....

[REQUEST] App for Audio via Mono Bluetooth headset

I'd love to be able to send audio (FM Radio, Sound player, podcasts, etc) to my mono bluetooth headset.
I have a Scala Rider headset in my motorcycle helmet, and I'd love to hear music from my Galaxy while riding.
I found "Super BT Mono" in the Android Market, however the free version doesn't seem to work. It doesn't do anything other than show an icon in the notification bar...
So, is this even possible?
possible yes
quality will suck
back in the old days, when they did not sell single sided A2DP BT headsets, many programmers created apps to send audio via BT to non A2DP capable headsets.
but not sure if any developer is going to take on the challenge, as it's so easy to buy a single ear A2DP BT headset now in days

I understand about the quality, and am willing to live with it.
With regards to the headset statement, trust me, the motorcycle community will love the developer of this app.
The SCALA RIDER Bluetooth headset attaches to the motorcycle helmet. So we can't just get any A2DP single ear headset. We're stuck with this.

I'm putting together a simple program that will do this. FYI, it will be Froyo only.
Might be a couple weeks before I can get around to it though. I'm swamped with work at the moment, and I'll be away from home for the last two weeks of September.
It will probably be free on XDA. Might ask 99 cents for it on the market.
That is truly awesome!
I really appreciate it, as I'm sure others will!
I'll put it on my task list but cannot make any guarantee on when I can get started on this.
I'm currently working on a fix to get stereo FM radio, but while working on this I found lots of interesting stuff on all kinds of things audio related.
This is what Im looking for and cant find. The music plays in the ear piece during phone calls fine so seems like it would be easy to fix.
I've been looking for that as well. I used BToggle for 3 years on my WM5 HTC wizard. and was REALLY disappointed when I got the G1 and found... what?? NO BToggle!! so I bought a stereo A2DP headset. but with 5-6 hrs play/talk time = workable but less then happy. then I found, tested and bought Super BT mono shortly after it hit the market and use it alot!! only thing is now I miss the notifications "Pushed" to my non A2DP headsets. and this is what I want.
I think it can be done by changing parts of bluez but I dont know what yet. if anyone can point me in the right direction I'm willing to stumble my way through.
Peter.
running a G1 with CyaogenMod-6.0.0-DS
(I have 2 jabra BT250's, 2 jabra BT2050 headsets and 1 stereo BT A2DP headset)
Sorry, forgot about this little project. Put together a first release today. Find it in the market: BTmono by me. It's free. Detailed post later.
nice app
i tested it on froyo and have the following problems:
*) when using skype, it always changes back to normal phone speaker, i have to start your app again and press yes a few times, to route back to BT-headset again
seems that some actions switch it back to phone speaker
*) microphone of bluetooth headset is not routed yet, i hope this is also possible
but thanks fo the app, i hope it will work fully soon.

My first proposal to it would be to have a small widget allowing to turn BTmono On/Off with a single press of the widget.

Hmm...sounds like Skype is trying to manually set the audio routing itself. Not sure if there's much I can do about that.
As for the microphone, I hadn't really considered that. I was thinking of this as purely a means of getting audio from the phone to the BT headset. Does Skype not work with a BT headset using the standard headset profile?

Ya, a widget is definitely on the to-do list. I need to add that to the market description. I wanted to get the basic functionality out there for now, and then add on over time. I probably wouldn't even have made it if the existing apps on the market weren't ridiculously overpriced, hehe.

I prefer CarHome Ultra, https://market.android.com/details?...51bGwsMSwxLDEsInNwaW5uaW5naGVhZC5jYXJob21lIl0.

This is a very nice app. I don't understand why Google doesn't update their own apps with there OS.
If anyone wants Google Car Home with a stock phone, unlocked, unrooted, unanything I've gotten it working through this method:
Google Car Home on the Galaxy Nexus.
How I did it:
Follow the instructions here:
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/02/0...m-the-market-on-the-verizon-lte-galaxy-nexus/
Just type 'Google Car Home' whenever it refers to Google Wallet.
The app will install, but then give you a message that it's not compatible. You will not see it in your apps - however if you go to settings-->apps it's in the list - there is just no icon available.
So there is a final step, install this app:
https://market.android.com/details?...1bGwsMSwxLDEsIm5ldC5jd2ZrLmlnODguY2FybW9kZSJd
All this app does is give you a toggle to launch the default car home app. If you have more than one installed, it will as which you want to use.
I've used Google Car Home on my Verizon Nexus today and it works great. I've also changed the colors now so they match 'ICS blue'.
Will see if I can attach the image:
Waou it works perfectly...
Thank you so much... i've been looking for a way to install car home on my GNexus non rooted for age, and finally i have it, thanks to you.
I was stuck at first, cause i wasn't going on the car home page but stayed on the search results page (where you can actually clic install directly) and the market did the same and it didn't work... but then i did it properly and it's perfect.
I've downloaded apk from xda also, and it allowed me to have the exact same icon than the original (and not the car mode icon).
Anyway, works flawlessly.
Where did you find the APK? I've tried this method but I couldn't get it to work...
Just to say thanks to Mcdeadagain - finding a launcher was my issue.
apk can be found in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569027

[Q] Car dock app. Where is it?

So we've all seen the car dock accessories but I don't have the car dock but still want to turn my Nexus into the car dock mode when I'm driving.
Does anyone know of any official Galaxy Nexus car dock app floating around. If not, is there any good ICS 3rd party car dock around?
This one LOOKS close: https://market.android.com/details?...sMSwxLDEwMiwiY29tLmFub2QuY2FyLmhvbWUuZnJlZSJd
I haven't used it however. I'll rip Car Home from a previous version of GApps and see what the compatibility issue is with the GN, lets hope it's just a dpi thing.

unfortunately google is blocking carhome on the galaxy nexus throught the market, which is dumb because the app works fine.
all you need to do is use the same workaround that was discovered for installing google wallet. the only hitch is the app won't show up in your launcher. i used an app called anycut to create one but since the app hasnt been updated in a while the icon will be kind of cut off. still works fine though.
Well that sucks. I am not sure I can be bothered with a workaround that is still hassle to use, if I'm perfectly honest.
I've gone to the market and picked up a pretty decent car home dock that has a 30 day trial. Seems pretty decent so I'll probably buy the full version.
Sometimes I wonder why Google makes the decisions it does about apps.
I use the gapps from stock 4.0.4 posted here and it has car home on it.

You can just install the APKs through a file manager. I did this installing the Car Home and Car dock APKs witch I have attached. Sorry I forget what forum I found this on, but it does work. Not sure if it will work non-rooted, but you can give it a try. You don't have to side lode or drop this in the system/apps directory, just install it like any regular APK.

For whatever reason Google has limited the phones that can download this from Google Play - it's been a long-time favorite of mine...
There are many other car home replacements on Play, but if you want the official Google car home just use Google and search for "download google car home apk" - it's pretty available.
Good luck.
Nothing only for the GS3, but you can get any of the ones from the market and they should work just fine.
look in the general section. There was a topic about car home and there was a link to the APK.

Same here. When I look in App Manager, it's there but the only option is to uninstall.
Probably has to be installed to /system/apps to work...
If it is one of the ones I have used in the past them it doesn't have an icon and just auto opens when you put the device in an official dock. If you don't have an official dock then I suggest using one of the others from the market.
I don't know why. I pulled it using titanium. Ive had it backed up for a very long time. So how about I pull my whole backup then restore it using titanium? You just gotta put the files in wherever your titanium directory is.

You can also try pushing to system/app and set to rw-r--r- for permission.

To create the shortcut for Car Home (after installing it) you need to download "Anycut" from Play and install it. Once installed select: New Shortcut - Activity - (Scroll and Select) Car Home (or anything) for it to place an icon shortcut on your home screen.
