3.5mm Jack Volume Boost - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok guys, I love my Epic and there's no way I'd ever get rid of it...but the headphone volume output is abysmal. I have to turn my car radio way up (or max in some songs) while in aux mode to hear it nicely. Whereas my friend's iPhone 4 doesn't need all the pampering and can easily deliver loud enough out put from it's headphone jack (at lower settings on the radio). I'm wondering if there's a deep setting somewhere I can tweak or perhaps a flashable app/hack that will raise it up substantially (for I can always turn down the volume).
It was just embarrassing since I had her phone beat in every other way, but then got trounced in something as simple as audio out volume. (but it was good because I'm hoping it's some simple thing that can be tweaked one way or another)
Hopefully someone can help, I didn't find anything useful with the search feature but maybe I just didn't use the right search keywords.
Thanks guys!

download Voodoo Sound from the Market. Even when I was running EH06, it still worked for me. If you download it, change the Headphone Amplifier to 5db. I had the very same problem and that did it for me. The only bad thing is that you have to set the settings again every time you turn off the phone.
Hope it helps, man. Good Luck!!

I have the same exact problem. I brought up the volume to 0dB with Voodoo Control. It did some help. I wouldn't bring it to 5dB. It makes the sound over-modulated.

Thanks to the both of you!
I've had of Voodoo Control this whole time but didn't know what it did. (included in my ROM)
I'm such a tool, I'll try 0dB and then 5dB and see which has the level of output I need
Got a decent drive planned tomorrow to test the results!.

Galaxy tuner is a great tool as well. Its like a Swiss army knife for galaxy s phones lol.

Get better quality, like FLAC.

How did it work on eh06 it doesn't have the kernel?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

For the payware version of voodoo control you don't need a custom kernel that supports it as long as you have root. I'm running it on EH06.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium

Also the recommended volume setting is the with the software/android volume maxed out or close to it then you control the volume with the hardware output. As for having to set it again after restarting the phone, there is a hack built in that allows the hardware volume rocker to control the voodoo output while automatically maxing the software volume. Really convenient.

Try this:
Volume+ Free - LINK
or buy it to make it even louder: Volume+ (Sound Boost) - LINK
If you ever root, use DSP Manager, a lot better then Volume+:

I tried the free no noticeable difference so im hesitant to buy the full. Thanks anyway
you can buy it, and try it out. you have a 15 minute refund window.
yea I hate that 15 min window lol never seems enough time, they should at least give you an hour
Its says it currently doesn't work with ICS?? Hrmmm..
So it works on your Gnex??
Thanks guys. = )

this doesn't help with "in-call, earpiece" volume. i recall that this type of change had to be done at the kernel level. i had the same issue with my Nexus One and a kernel dev boosted the output tables (or something like that) in the kernel and it made a big difference. i was hopeful that Samsung's service codes could be accessed to change in-call volumes. however, those codes don't work on the Galaxy Nexus.
Hmm. Flashed dsp manager and now it force closes every time i try and open it. Any way to get it working or at least remove it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
This has been covered in depth. Install equalizer or volume+, and max out each frequency. Your volume will double for all audio, ringers, notifications, and music. But call volume will stay the same.
So it does work with ICS?
I used volume+. Out the box volume is low. For each setting i put it on the one after the *warning*. Does its job.
Equalizer is my favorite over volume+... and yes the both work on ice cream. Works excellent.
So its just called equalizer??
Does it have some other options over the earpiece also?
Thanks guys. I've thrown a few thanks hits around too. = )
Cheers.
Equalizer by smart apps. Great app.
I use volume + and works great. I got the paid version. These are my settings and its loud I have to turn my phone down at work cuz when it rings its loud as hell lol.

Cool man thanks for the uploads dude!!
So I'm trying g to decide without knowing what one works aswell as what one is better.....dilemma!! Haha.
Thanks again guys. = )
One other thing, is the Gnex speaker capable of going louder without damage??
also make sure you go to sound settings > music effects and choose volume +. a lot of people who don't notice a difference in volume have missed that essential step

Does this go hand-in-hand with FauxSound? Is it the same thing in a different form? Will it work alongside FauxSound? Sorry for all the questions. Just wondering because I use FauxSound.
Asphyxiation: to cause to die or lose consciousness by impairing normal breathing, as by gas or other noxious agents; choke; suffocate; smother.
(from Greek α- "without" and σφύξις sphyxis, "heartbeat")
I'd like to hear some responses to this before trying it.
Does it deteriorate the sound quality dramatically? How loud can it really get? Obviously don't push it too much, could damage the phone playing it too loud too long.
Which speaker does this amplify? Only the external or does it do anything with the earpiece/bluetooth/headphone outputs?

Aloha Amigo...
Faux sounds works if you have a Kernel that supports Fauxsounds... i haven't tried faux so i dont know if it does the same
This will edit the Default Volume limiter (lets say by default the Speaker volume is limited to 69% i tweaked it to 75%)
sphyxis that sounds so cool

Aloha berry man I personally test every MOD in my device before even think in damaging others BUT you know i have to be very Explicit i have in my personal hearing experience taken it to the limit without getting to a distorded sound.. but that dont mean nothing if you put aHigher BItrate File on your phone and or Have a Adicional APP that messes with the sound... this Hack is based on This Idea
But that is for the i9300 (m0) and There is a Volume Booster for the I747 but for TW not for any CM Roms
This rom has the Volume Booster for TW ROMS installed MOD Thread

You can also edit /system/etc/default_gain.conf to set custom levels. Watch out though not to boost it too much so as not to break your speaker(s)/ears.

Would you be interested in having a short tutorial so people can modify them to what they prefer? Is it as simple as changing RX1 Digital Volume values?

Increase headphone volume?

Hello,
The headphone volume is too low for my liking and used in ears. Is there any way to increase headphone output? Do we have to wait for custom Kernel?
Thanks
Root and modify mixer_paths.xml in vendor/etc/
What kind of modification do you have to do in this file?
I don't have a clue and it seems the ones who know won't tell us. This file is huge and has hundreds of parameters, no chance just by trying to change anything.
I've read that the Xiaomi EU Rom has increased headphone volume, we could compare the two variants of the mixer_paths.xml. But I don't know how to extract single files from a Rom Image
Why don't you try viper Fx?
You mean "ViPER4Android Audio Effects" ? That seems to be an outdated project not compatible with Oreo. No I´m not taking the risk and install a non supported MOD that seems to integrate deeply into the system...

I hope not to be late but for me this is a ritual and I have done it on all my devices and in the end it is always the same story ...[In Mixer_paths.xml] You must look for the line "headset" or "headphone" and edit the value of where to put "RX1 Digital Volume "and" RX2 Digital Volume "to a higher value for example if you have 84 then with 90 would be ... from here you can also upload the speaker values in" speaker "it is really easy once you understand

Screen temporary burn-in

I was using Facebook for a long time reading some comments and after I closed the app I noticed that there were some details "burned" in the screen that were clearly visible from a grey/dark background because the Facebook app doesn't have a dark mode it's all white and bright.
The same occurs when I play Minesweeper for a long time, the squares get burned all over the screen.
After a while, the "burns" just goes away, until the next time I use a bright app for a long time.
Is it common or is it a display fault? What can I do?
Saw another thread regarding the same issue.

Sorry for not noticing. I have the exact same panel type (tianma panel) but not the burn in issue.
Try setting your display colour warmer using either screen filter from play store or thru system settings (worked for my g5) and avoid using auto brightness.

Thanks, I had solved it in late 2019 / early 2020, and had been using Paranoid Android since then.
Two and a half years later with the same build and ROM (and a lot of bugs that accumulated over time) I flashed Lineage with android 11 and the screen retention started happening again, after some searches I found this post, took me some time to realize it was my own hahahaha
But yeah, for anyone having this issue, most ROMs should have a "Live Display" feature under "Settings -> Display" and then you can set it to 90% in each option (Red, Green, Blue) and the issue should be fixed.

In your place, I would try the factory setup and installation of another launcher. I myself have been using Nova Launcher for many years, which is very fast, well-tuned, and the free version is enough for you. The device behaves completely differently with it.
