Cameras - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I have a question. Does anyone know if you're able to run the stock camera from the Incredible 2 rom on CM7? If so, can someone running rooted stock Incredible 2 upload the APK? If not, can someone suggest a better camera than the CM7 camera?
Thanks

You cannot. The framework is different from an AOSP Rom vs a Sense Rom. Many people hate it because that vanilla camera In CM7 is ugly lol
Sent from my Rinky Dinky DInc2

I was afraid it was a sense based camera. I guess the only other option is dealing with MIUI or this ****ty CM7 camera. It's fine except I'm one that hates random flashes of different colors come across my screen so when the green flashes, it bugs the living hell out of me lol.
How are you liking the Sensation 2.0 rom and the dirty chad kernel? Also, your 225 radio you have installed, does it work better than the 622 radio? I seem to get no reception on mine and I live close to a tower lol.

Yea, that camera IS the reason I do not use AOSP roms

Lmao, I thought I was the only one that was a stickler for stuff like that.

I love it, the smoothest so far for me. And the kernel is one he posted for another ROM, it just happens to work fine for this one. Charges faster and has profiles you can change as far as governors and voltage modifications.
The radio I'm running is still the stock radio by the way. I haven't messed with that yet. Haven't ran into anything major. I live out in the boonies and get 1X so I don't really care, I gots WiFi

Lol I live out in the boonies too and I get 0 bars and intermittent 3g/1x, thankfully I have wifi too lol
I'm thinking of flashing the stock radio. What would be your input as far as that goes? Yay or nay? lol

The radios vary depending on where you are located. I'm going to try one of the GB radios when I get around to it lol. Its pretty much play around with em and see which one works best over a day or two (per radio)

MIUI camera isn't too bad and there's a flashable version of it floating around here somewhere (compatible with CM7). My question would be around photo quality. Would a picture taken with a stock phone look the same as a photo taken with the MIUI camera (in 8mp mode) if printed out? It seems the sense camera is optimized for our resolution, but is overall picture quality any worse with MIUI? or does it have to do with the hardware?

Well I just found this ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16133085&postcount=12
It's an APK file so that means it is either installable or if that's not the case, you place it in /system/app and set the permission correctly
Permissions: can be set with root explorer
Owner - read, write, execute
Group - read
Others - read

The APK one should have working FFC capabilities. I've tried it out before starting this thread and it works great and looks very similar to the stock camera, except for the fact that when you take a picture, the screen flashes green which I can't stand. It's annoying but it does take pictures of the same quality as the AOSP camera. The other issue with the camera is that when the camera shows whatever it does, it is stretched, yet when you take the picture, it fixes itself and takes a normal picture. Quirky, but still works.

I'm worried that if I try to flash the stock radio that I would brick the phone because the stock radio is for Froyo FW and CM7 is Gingerbread. lol
Update: just flashed the stock incredible 2 radio and it doesn't seem to have done much of anything lol

This is the Miui camera I use with CM 7.
Since I couldn't really see any need of wanting to use the stock camera, I renamed the apk to "camera" and replaced the stock camera app in the system folder, changed the permissions/ownership and good to go. (I did make a .bak of the stock CM 7 for a just in case moment)
I like the Miui camera app. I didn't have FFC with it though. I do though now using the latest Miui Rom though...

I assume your referring to camera's? If so, I prefer the Miui camera over the CM 7 camera.
As far as rom preference, I like both, but currently I'm using Miui.
When taking photos using the Miui camera on the Miui rom, the only thing that flashes green is just the viewfinder box. The actual screen just goes black.
I'd have to flash back to CM 7 to see if the camera flashes the screen green or not. I don't remember now if it did or didn't. I don't think it did, but I don't want to say that it didn't without checking...

I flashed MIUI earlier and it seemed nice, a little different than what I'm used to in CM7, but what I did notice that I absolutely dislike is that 1) I tried to restore back to CM7 and when going through the ROM manager, it said that my phone was essentially not rooted anymore (more specifically that superuser permissions wasn't giving ROM manager the permissions and I went into SU and checked and it was installed, updated, and was supposed to be giving permissions where it needed to be), and 2) Whenever you drag an icon off the screen to remove the icon, it only wants to uninstall the app. Other than that, it seems like a decent ROM.

Yup, the last couple of updates to Miui has had to have the permissions set on SU. Don't know what happened that it has to be that way. It didn't used to be that way.
I also don't care to much for the Miui Launcher, and it's unremovable apps (you can make folders though, and place the apps in there, but still not quite what I like). To Iphone for me... I use the Adw ex launcher (same that I use on CM 7)
Really, my version of Cm 7 and Miui are almost twins... Basically the only diff is in the menus and a few cosmetics.
CM 7 on the left, Miui on the right...

Holy ****! Finally someone else that has this same problem!

Could probably take a look, shouldn't be too hard, if it's anything like the Moto Droid was... then again, knowing HTC, it's probably not that easy. Good idea though, this camera/lens can certainly handle it.

Yeah, it's the same camera as the EVO which came with 720p so it undoubtedly can handle it. It's just a matter of a dev taking on the project to unlock it.
would we be able to change the fps also? id like 30 with 720p
FYI I tried putting the stock HTCCamera.apk and odex files in /system/app replaceing the existing stock ones. Inc boots fine but then has no camera/camcorder app. I them tried the Evo camera.apk with the inc .odex. Same result. I also tried just installing the camera.apk from evo and it wouldnt install. I knew it would proably do all of these things but I did them just to verify.
Also looking at the build props from the evo to the inc it looks like the .h263 bitrate is diff.
The inc is set at 2000000 and the evo is set at 6000000.

I was poking around last night, it seems as though the camera does not use build.prop for its configuration either anymore or ever. The settings seem to be hardcoded elsewhere. Any ideas?
I have noticed that with some of the custom overclocking kernals the camera app gets broke. Might be built into that as well. Just a thought.

The CM mod rom for the Inc has 720p vid recording enabled. The camera tho only takes up to 3 mp pics. I know you update the kernel and rom when flashing to it so the 720p recording may be in the kernel not the build.prop

I highly doubt the kernel restricts video encoding. Has anyone tried using the modified N1 or Evo camera app? I remember seeing notes in previous build.prop for other models mentioning that encoding specs would be removed from the build.prop's domain--I guess they/HTC finally did it
I tried the evo camera app but it wouldn't work.

[Q] uploading pic to facebook on different roms

I have backup 2 different rom. The stock G2 and HTC desire z modoco kitchen.
I have uploaded a pic from the stock G2 and it looks standard when viewing online but when i switch rom and upload using the desire z rom it comes out wide screen!
could it be the app that i was using? the desire z has it's own facebook app for some reason and the stock is well...using stock facebook upload.
just asking around to see if i am going crazy or someone else also notice this.
My MyTough Slide used to do that when I switched roms. With stock it came out fine but with any 2.2 rom I got wide. I'm not sure why, but i'd wager my next paycheck that it's a difference in software.
I never really saw it as a problem, as the pics still looked good, but yes I've noticed this before too.

I'm sure it's the camera software itself. Maybe a different version or a setting that's changed. My suggestion would be to experiment around with the stock camera settings to see if you can set it for wide shots. Otherwise, you can stick with a rom or upload them to your computer and edit them before posting them to FB.
ya...already fumble around with the camera settings on the stock firmware. the sense seems to be more robust in feature than stock. wish u can take the camera apk from sense and port it over to stock...

Best ICS Rom

PreludeDrew, Kush Deck or JaredTheGreat? Wondering what people are running out of the three ICS roms.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I installed Team Blaze's (Jared) newest ICS last night and was running Drew's prior to. I would say at this point they are almost the same... each one is making improvements... As for my experience... Jared's is solid and I haven't ran into anything broken. There are some things a little buggy (like TTS errors when opening Navigation, but TTS working just fine) but I haven't found anything broken. They are all working on making the camera better and it works on Jareds. These aren't final releases so I am good with what I have! Can't wait until these things get smoothed out as ICS is tight.
Jared The Great all the way baby.
ICS Question
I have been following these ROMS.
At least on the home screen they appear to be still pretty buggy.
I don't know if the MMS is working, the camera, all that stuff.
Just curious if someone can tell me what I need to expect after installing.
I am currently using Synergy non-god mode and hate it. It is SO LAGGY. It takes a good 15 seconds to get the icons to populate my home screen. I need a new rom and was wondering if these were worth switching too.
Thanks all.

He was asking about ICS not MIUI if I'm reading the first post correctly. MIUI fanboys are as bad as apple fanboys...
I'm running Deck's alpha 5 and it's really solid. Trebuchet is buggy but that's a known issue and the solution is to run Nova instead. It's definitely worth flashing an ICS ROM to get a feel for how they are.
james
I have run both Jared's and Drew's. Both solid build... both buggy as hell. They are still working on them. To be honest... the best one right now will probably be the one with the latest release.
Decks Alpha 5 for me with CoD tweaks. I haven't tried any of the other ones but this one is rock solid for me. There are quirks but any rom has those. Honestly I have better battery life on this then I ever have had before.

MIUI is actually different in looks as well as useability. And Im not a fanboy. It just is the best all around rom. Alot of people dont like the iphone like no app drawer as do i. But once u have one in miui it is by far the best rom available. For sure it is the least laggiest evo rom. And by the way these are facts. And if u disagree u must be a ics fanboy or just a straight up MIUI hater. Bu bye!

Gentlemen, best is predetermined to be biased upon your own preferences; there is no right answer here. Yes, ICS does have some nice features, like improved voice commands, better folder management, ect. And for MIUI yes it is a lil 'iphone' like in essence, but different from all the rest. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but if you change the launcher, you fix the 'no app drawer' issue, which some people tend not to like.

[APPS] A more complete JB 4.2 Camera and Gallery

Hi,
I've created a flashable zip based on the files extracted by dmmarck (it's all his doing! I'm just packaging it). Just flash from CWM or TWRP.
Everything should work: regular pics, photosphere, gallery and editor. On my device, it all coexists nicely with my existing camera and gallery.
Edit: just noticed that garner had updated his own thread with more things working. It seems his archive contains fewer files, which is great if you want to save space. If it's not working for you, though, try this version.
Thanks cyansmoker!

the ONLY problem I am having with the photosphere is that it seems to snap pictures when the blue dot isnt directly center of the target. Its close to but not directly center which leads to most of my pictures being "off" from one another.. I wonder if theres a way to slow down the speed or pause it for a second so the blue dot lines up correctly

In my case, I found out that actually slowing down while panning with my phone made things better. I guess my phone was having a hard time figuring out what I was aiming it at.
i've tried to slow it down also (this isnt the panorama selection but the photosphere), but once the blue dot to line up the next shot gets close to the target recticle center where it should be(might be a better word), it snaps the next picture before even getting in the center if that makes sense
I get force close when opening both camera and gallery app. Hmm.. not sure what's wrong though.
I have a cwm backup, but is there other way to restore old camera back? maybe someone has the original apk for camera and gallery?

I believe that as long as you delete /system/app/GalleryGoogle.apk and reboot your phone, you should have access to your old camera.
Of course it is different from ROM to ROM...

rename the gallery2.apk to gallery.bak, then try to install. I dont see a gallery4 on mine (current Bamf), just a GALAXY4, which is a lwp and googlegallery is what the new one is (I think).

Camera question on CM10 ROM Android 4.1.2

Is it just me or does it seem like the camera was better when the phone was unrooted and without a ROM? Last night I rooted my phone and flashed the CM10 ROM...and I feel that the pictures come out a little blurry. The camera app is completely different in itself.
Is there any way to install the original camera app? The CM10 ROM upgraded me from android 4.1.1 to 4.1.2.
Respectfully,

The stock camera app relies on the Touchwiz framework which CM10 does not use, so no you cannot install the original camera app.

Thanks. Is it just in my mind that the stock camera is better? Are there any good camera apps around that I could use?
There's a chance that the pictures with the stock camera are better, because the camera software has been optimized for the phone. However, someone posted sample pictures in the CM10 thread comparing the stock camera quality to CM10's camera quality, and the differences were negligible. The person posting them said he couldn't tell the difference if he didn't know there was one, and I personally couldn't see much difference either. I'm on my phone, so searching for it would be a *****, so if you're on a computer, I'd recommend giving the CM10 thread a search. If I can find the post before you, I'll edit this with a link.
You could always try it yourself, too. Find a room with consistent lighting (probably away from windows), and take some pics with Touchwiz. Then, take the same pics with CM10 (I guess, try to make a stand/marking of some sort so it's easier to put the camera at/near the same exact spot). Upload them to a computer or something (just because a larger screen will show the differences better; it's not entirely necessary), and compare.

Thanks. That is all great information. I actually just flashed Jelly Bomb 9.0. Nice ROM but now I'm getting a whole new error haha. I'll start another thread.
