Which browser? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Curious as to which browser you will be using and why? If ua change to desktop actually sticks (doubtful) i will probably roll with the stock browser. If not probably dolphin hd for a real desktop mode!

The only browser that really evr sticks to desktrop.....DOLPHIN HD

Yup .. it's all i use Dolphin...

I'll probably run Miren.

is the stock browser coded to use the hardware better ?

Yes, something to do with backing store. Kinda like what Apple does with Iphone and Safari.

Best browser of galaxy s2?

Which is the best browser to use on galaxy s2?
Dolphin HD - free from market...extremly easy to navigate + friendly interface
Hot tip -it has option to keep desktop view -not like the stock browser where u are forced to switch it everytime u reopen the browser.
also speed dial included + option to set up gestures (swipe) that will make it even easier to use.
regards
Dolphin hd is so cluttered. Dolphin mini is pretty nice though. I'm currently trying opera mobile.
But nothing beats stock browser.

Thanks all i tried dolphin HD ,ya i somewhat didnt like it UI.
Opera mobile was comparitively slow. Dolphin Mini havnt tried yet will try out.
Tried Xscope browser and it worked best till now, we can even remove top status bar of android so its full screen with Xscope, But it crashed couple of times.

The addon that let'S you switch between android and desktop view doesn't seem to work for me, at least not on amazon.

Dolphin HD also has the option to go fullscreen and remove the status bar.
So far I'm very pleased with Dolphin HD, since 5.1.0 it's really a joy using it again!
And imho it beats the stock browser by far, in features, speed and usability!
I tried Dolphin HD and Opera but I am still using stock browser

Ok guys .Found best browser for me and that is Dolphin Mini. Its faster than dolphin HD to me and renders webpage correctly(in LARGE font dolphin HD sometimes doesnt render webpage correctly). Also i like UI of Mini better than HD, also there is Back button at bottom which HD misses i assume.
I use the stock browser. It's fast and simple.
stock - GPU accelerated says enough
And how do you install your bookmarks from PC to stock browser? I find out how to do it with ease on Dophin HD, but not for stock browser. It is a shame, that can't sync Google Chrome bookmarks with android browser. I'm using Bookmarks to SD.
The stock browser is hardware accelerated, it's extremely fast for scrolling and zooming. I find it a lot smoother than Dolphin HD.
Opera, and input opera:config
set more connections, bigger space in ram,,,,a more more settings to speed uo loading web pages
Dolphin HD is good. But I found another browser which is called Boat Browser Mini is great. It's very simple and easy-to-use. Even makes me feel like use Safari on iPhone. It's cool.
miren browser guys
stock for me nice and simple

The stock one has but one flaw. No user agent switch. No problem for rooted users with custom roms though.

About:useragent and browser set to mobile

Anyone know how to get the browser out of mobile view for websites? I tried changing the settings in About:useragent but the settings don't save. Thanks
Install a diffrent browser.
I prefer miren browser. It has a option to apear as a desktop and loads everything you throw at it.

You can still keep the stock browser. Just have a second one for those times when you need to appear as a desktop. In the end though, the stock browser sucks
The stock browser is GPU accelerated, so is opera mobile. No other browser is GPU accelerated and sites like XDA absolutely CHUG on Miren/Dolphin........

I don't know if this is true or not. I looked around the market for a bit and found no info.
It has been awhile, but I tried all the major browsers. I found Dolphin, Opera, and most others to be sub par. Miren is the fastest one I have used. It is easily as fast as any other, or faster in my personal experience. Added to that, almost every flash based site I find myself visiting, works. Win in my book.
Opera is the fastest for me as well
According to anandtech the stock browser on the epic touch is optimized on the back end. It uses the same tricks that safari uses on the ipad 2. But, Samsung found a way to do it better. So technically the stock browser on the epic touch is way better than the stock browser on other Android phone. Anandtech got real technical with their in depth review. I suggest you check it out.
Note: I'm not 100% sure if the review I refer to was anandtech.
Weird. I've always done it through about:debug and then the settings menu but I just tried and the user agent option is missing. I can't imagine why they would have removed it entirely.

I tried some of the other browsers and the stock is just better. It is faster, more responsive, smoother with scrolling and zooming. I just wish there was a way to get it to go non-mobile!!!

Its not removed, you have to type about:useragent to change it. It will not stick though once you exit the browser.
This is a Touchwiz thing. G-Tab 10.1 had the same problem after TW update. There's a mod in the G-Tab forum that allows about:useragent desktop mode to stick. Hopefully we can get some love....
Ran a ton of site download tests and boat browser mini was fastest of all of them....including stock...(actually it virtually tied stock on the 15 site test I did).
However: NONE of the browsers display desktop pages on key sites (nytimes, engadget, gizmodo etc) regardless of the useragent setting on the Epic Touch.
Stupidass Sprint-Samsung.

Yes they do...if you set useragent to desktop. However, it reverts back to mobile when you close browser.
Yeah that's what I meant...close browser: have to keep entering. Nobody for me. Hoping for a good hack!

Best Mobile Browser

I had been using DolphinHD, but I was wondering about the other options. I switched to xScope browser yesterday which I am quite liking, and I personally preferred dolphin mini to dolphin HD when I used to use it.
Please post what browser you use and why you like it!!!
I've been using boat browser for a while, it's fast, and I like the ability to customize the tool bar.
I prefer Opera Mobile because it uses its own rendering engine. This means webpages look like their desktop counterparts. My biggest disappointment with Opera, though, is that I could never figure out how to get it to open a home page and not its Speed Dial page.
My second choice is Skyfire because of its simple interface, yet it still has a search box in the address bar.
I've tried Dolphin HD on my Incredible, but it just looked cramped and I got used to the other two browsers.
To each his own, though.
Opera Mobile for sure.
Sent from my LG-P930 using Tapatalk
Here's another vote for Opera Mobile! It seems to render just about everything as close to desktop as possible; it also has the best html5 compatibility, IIRC...
I'm using Dolphin as well. I never tried others yet but coming from the G2x, I like the Dolphin HD the most... But tonight I'll experiment with other browsers. The dolpin used to suck with so much lag on my SU640, you need to do the adjust resolution thingy for it to work smoothly.
Opera Mobile (not Opera Mini) and Maxthon

you also need ICS .
Opera Mobile for normal browsing, Dolphin HD for porn and pages Opera can't load, which happens occasionally.
I can't remember where I saw this, maybe it was the boat browser thread in the apps and games section of the forums, but dolphin had apparently been sending all of the information from your browser use to its websites. 34 sent from dolphin hd compared to 5 from boat browser.
I personally use boat after seeing that information. If i wasn't so paranoid about privacy (i really have nothing to hide) then i would keep using dolphin. It is quite impressive with how fast it is.
xScope used to be my favorite, but the Devs seem to have abandoned it long ago...Except for most recently, but even then I believe that was only to fix for Galaxy Nexus.
Currently I have Boat, DolphinHD and Opera Mobile all installed. I find I mostly use DolphinHD, then Opera for the occasional page that Dolphin can't handle/render properly. Boat is nice, but I'll likely be removing it soon as I just keep gravitating back to DolphinHD.
I just installed Firefox Beta (v11.0.0) and so far I'm quite impressed!

If you have large collection of saved forms, passwords, do not sync it with mobile FF it will take ages before it become responsive after opening...Other than that It's good, but not yet there compare to Opera and Maxthon.

.... Because Dolphin is the stock browser..
If you want flash, you need to use a proper browser. Like Opera Mobile.
Just like Chrome on iPhone isn't actually Chrome, Dolphin on Android isn't actually Dolphin. The only difference, Android DOES allow vendors to write their own rendering and Javascript engines, and doesn't force them like Apple does to use Safari.
Opera Mobile and Firefox both use their own engines and don't rely on the built in browser, they are full browsers in their own right.
Indeed, I updated, and they removed the option of turning on flash in setting.
Guess what, dolphin browser uninstalled!
No reason to use them anymore.
That's a stupid decision on their part.

Damn, I only just set it up to work with BBC iPlayer yesterday, was working really well. I think I updated it this morning.
I've just swicthed back to the previous version that I had on my phone. Luckily I didn't update that today.
Here's the apk from before the update.
Totally sucks. Supposedly it is because Flash on 4.1 causes freezes and crashes. Funny I did not have a single issue using it the past couple of days. The lack of pinch-to-zoom (on previous version) was mildly annoying though.
Oh well, uninstalling. Going to try sideloading Firefox as it says it is incompatible in the Play Store.

4,2, Is chrome browser now superior?

I keep switching between chrome, dolphin and the stock from 4.1......is it my imagination or is chrome still 3rd choice? It just seems so unintuitive to use. Are you guys switching to chrome or staying with one of the other browsers?
I think chrome is better than the default browser... but android beam still does not work with this app!
I love some of the Chrome features life the lateral-swipe to switch tabs and the zoom bubble that appears if you click in a small link, but I hate how it handles the bookmarks. We can't have everything, I guess :\
I use Chrome because it syncs with my desktop browser, but the Android browser is a lot smoother. Chrome stutters all the time when I scroll and often ignores input while it stutters, but I have a hard time getting the Android browser to stutter at all.
If you don't need the synchronization with your desktop, Android browser is still the better choice.
is it possible to have ALWAYS desktop version of a site without requesting it every time???
Thanks for the replies.....I keep expecting chrome to be the beez kneez but it always seems lackluster/less friendly than the android version. I dont know why, but after sandy when signals were extremely weak or non existent in my area, dolphin performed the best on a gnex (vzw) 4.1.2 and on an old droid 3
stock 4.2 browser is the best.

Ive been trying to use it all day but its not working for me....a shame because i feel like im cheating on google when i use the other browsers haha
I think as long as they dont add the "quick controls" to chrome, the android browser will always have the lead. those controls are incredibly useful for one hand operation, and really anything involving the search bar at the top. no need to move the thumb up there(which is annoying on big screens), just press the side and swype to the url control and bam! and now with "swype" on the keyboard, its actually getting pretty nice having a big screen but only using one hand

i use to like Dolphin browser but Chrome kinda feels solid. I have Dolphin browser with Jetpack on N7 and it indeed loads pages faster then chrome. They've recently added magnifier like in chrome it's still needs a little bit of optimization.
The stock 4.2 browser is faster and more fluid than chrome. Chrome is better in handling all kind of online forms.
I love stock browser but I want to give chrome browser a whirl. However, how do you guys adjust the font for chrome where it is readable? There are some fonts on the page which are perfect for viewing and at the same time , other parts of the page, the fonts are so small. Why can't all the fonts be near or equal on the same page like stock browser.
