Is there a root method yet? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Also is there a way to change the lock screen method? all reviews seems to struggle unlocking the device.

Root shouldn't be to far off ...
As far as lock screen modifications not far off either ... as we have source it should be just a matter of time until someone steps up.

i think the oneclick from the og epic might work...

Herpies are a beeotch

What might happen if we flashed cwm in odin? Or is that version specifically built for the og epic?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

That is specifically built for it. We need to wait on a compatible CWM for this device. Anyone tried the app on the market to see if it flashes anything?

Anyone willing to try gingerbreak.apk ....
Here's the link ^^^

Do not test the epic root method. The kernel in it will brick your phone.

Yeah and until we have the odin files... you won't unbrick it if this does damage the phone. Luckily, as soon as we get the .tar files you will be back to new all over again

Is Zedomax root the only one available?

I have a question about Root. Is zedomax root the only one available and if so is it stable? Over seen some people with some issues and want to know if I should wait.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
there are issues with it. personally, my phone would not receive incoming calls. YMMV though.
what you can do it flash zedomax, recover back to stock, flash clockwork mod, then flash the superuser file. then recover back to stock.
any problems i had had with zedomax were undone, and i know have root.

Is it possible to.. .?

Is it possible to add clockwork mod recovery on our phones w/o using Odin (directly from the phone) ? I was able to do this one the infuse 4g but I haven't seen any thing in the forums about it. Or a way to root w/o it either. I'm hardly ever home in close to my laptop so this would be a great help.

Yes. Use the thread sfhub inntje development section that is stickied at the top. U can flash the stock kernel with cwm without using Odin.

It should be thought. What if you just replace the stock recovery with the clockwork recovery?

Trying to be helpful, so...
No, because you need to use ADB (Android debug bridge) to run the zergrush exploit locally on the phone. you cant push the files onto the phone from itself or use the exploit. The best that they have right now is mobile Odin, but thats for flashing files over partitions, not rooting or a installing a recovery..

recovery should be built into the kernel that he is going to (mobile)odin and mobile odin will inject root into the system if the option is selceted. if used severel time and i think it works great. The only thing it failed me on was the modem. Has to do that at a CPU.

Technically he could download the zergrush files to his phone and run them and root... Then download a kernel to the phone and write it with dd

Root without a computer?

I know it's possible to root *some* phones without a computer. Does anyone know if it's possible with the Hercules?
No! You need a computer
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Wow...... well I guess that answers that one.
lol
Thanks
I think you can not root without a computer (because of all the ODIN stuff), but I guess ROMs can be installed using ROM manager. But using clockworkmod recovery seems easier.
You can't root without PC. Odin is the only way, my adhd girl can do this!

Rooting without a computer is the DUMBEST idea in the entire world. IF you screw up your phone, like most n00bs these days do, you will have NO WAY to recover your device without sending it in... not to mention no way to read XDA to discover what went wrong.

No need to install CWM from PC.
For this method you have to download 2 files (CWM.zip & SU-Busybox-Installer.zip) to you phone and you are ready to go.
Check method 1 on this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794

This is to give root access, but to gain the abilty to flash SU to gain root access, you need ODIN and a PC. On the T989, it the only way to flash CWM. To summarize, SU is the saddle, but whats really important is the horse, CWM

Yeah thats right, even you can get a horse without PC. There is app called mobile odin which makes this possible. You can flash firmware with cwm using that, mobile odin requires rooted phone, which we did using prev posts.
I have su access with cwm installed on my phone without imcrease in flash counter and yellow exclaimation at boot.
I am planning to install good rom on this. Once I do it successfully I will try to put small tut on it.

Isn't half the point of the ROM Manager app to install a custom recovery? If you have root access, you can flash CWM through it. It's literally the first action listed when you open it.

you could also have used a virtual machine or bootcamp or whatever else. as for OP, no at this point there is no way to root without a PC. Just find a friend that has one, or an internet cafe or something.

Just did it following zedomax tutorial and it was really fast..I didn't know Samsung phones were so easy to root. I'm used to locked bootloaders, struggling to get S-off and what not lol

[Q] How do I unlock boot loader and install custom recovery?

I might not have said the title right but I come from an HTC phone and need help for my friend. He has the s3 and I told him that I've unlocked my boot loader, s-offed my phone and installed a custom ROM I have the HTC evo 3d. So he now wants to do this with his s3. But I don't know how that phone works. So how do I s-off (or if I have to what else is s-off for the s3), unlock the bootloader (or whatever else I have to do similar to this to allow custom ROM installation), and where can I find the twrp recovery for the galaxy s3. All help will be thanked! I just really want to help him out and it will give me more knowledge on how to do this with the s3. Thanks!! PS: to sum it up I just would like to know what to do to install custom ROMs and install a custom recovery and be able to flash custom kernels without a problem and the ROMs should come pre rooted so that's not an issue. Thanks again.

Our bootloaders come unlocked so all you have to do is load a custom recovery through Odin(flashes files to phone) watch the video and you should be good to go
And he might wanna consider purchasing Odin Mobile from Play Store to flash things on the go. We'll worth the money.

It's not, chainfire gave it that name since the Odin program is associated with Samsung phones. It doesn't do the exact same things as the program, mainly that you can't flash stuff if you're not rooted
