Android Market Sucks - Epic 4G Apps

Since the Android Market seems to have so many issues and seems to suck so bad lately, would anyone who has either the free or paid versions of this LWP mind sharing?

If you've changed your lcd density, that's why the market isn't working.

I've changed my density in the past, back to stock 240 since like weeks, I also get not compatible when I try his market link.

The Market is fine
Whoever cooked you ROM did something wrong or made a concious choice to alter something that the market cannot distinguish. For example; root manager won't show up in the market when I use certain roms, or if they alter the build prop, the market won't recognize your device...... like in the case of the netflix hack that we use to use.

SRF 1.2 with lcddensity set to 180, market works fine.

No density change at all and it works fine.
Oh and appbrain still uses the market to install apps doesn't it?

some apps do not have install button on market

Are these protect apps and this has a market issue or am i just missing something? I am using bamboozle 1.1
app brain, chompsms, and empire online are the one's i found so far with no install button.
It can be an issue not getting a proper ID on your phone, thus not allowing your to install some apps that have hardware requirements.
Have you tried to delete and reinstall the Market???
no
I have not. would i have to do that with root manager?
Just happened last week. I had changed my lcd desity with an app so some market pages just didn't fit. Went back to 240 setting and install returned.

If you use market 2.3.6, there isn't an lcd density check. So you can download all apps

Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I changed lcd density back to 240 tried to clear cache but it would allow me so i forced stopped it and still greyed out. checked again still cannot download certain apps. Just tried the green market and it seems to have fixed it. or maybe i needed both since i couldn't clear the cache but the market looks a little off like it did at 200.

[Q] LCD Density and the annoying Market

So I have seen this issue on other forums, but was wondering if any of our fine developers had looked into this at all. High level summary---if you change your LCD density, a multitude of apps in the new market (3.1.3) will tell you your phone is not compatible. I believe this happens in version 3.0.27 (or whatever the last version was). Basically, the only workarounds I have seen or found is to reset the LCD density back to 240 anytime you want to use the market (I have found 172 to be the best setting for me, so this is a big difference, and just a general pain to keep switching back and forth). The other option is to downgrade my market back to version 2.X.X. Is there anyway to bypass the density check or force the value the market uses to always read 240?? Thanks is advance!!
Bump. If anyone gets this to work, id like to know too.

And I have mine at 162. Super Manager, ACS Updater, Go Weather, QuickPic, Rhapsody, Facebook, Adobe Flash, etc don't work with the new market below 240.
But maybe you don't use those particular ones. Or they came pre-istalled.

you are correct sir most old styles will auto update to 3.1.5 unless you have the updater frozen then it will try to push the update thru systemupdates.apk(if u freeze it your old stuff will work FYI), & it gets confused bc the old style dont like that...

Definately stupid...smh, changed it back to stock and got everything to work...and even updated some apps I didn't even know were outdated...lol, also the movie tab came back in the market which dissapeared...I just thought the market knew the phone was rooted which is why it wasn there...so canging it back did actually more than I expected...thanks mane!
Here's how to get the old market back permanently.
Settings / applications / manage applications /market / remove updates
After doing this use MyBackup or Titanium to freeze the upater
Or just delete it.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Deleting the market updater seems to cause problems but the biggest problem I have with any 2.x market is that after a while it starts saying object not found. I hate being forced to use something ugly
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I've never had any problems with it being deleted...except it says no connection but I had that even before deleting it. Once I hit refresh it comes back.
i also freeze the market.updater (right one?!) with TB, but after every reboot the new market comes again....

Incompatible Apps

I'm coming from an Evo 4G and never had this problem...
I've come across several apps that say "your device is not compatible with this app" and wont let me DL it... what's this all about?
I'm rooted, running Calk's ROM with EL29 kernel and build and EK02 modem if that helps
An example is the Cut and Slice app in the market and Modern Combat games
Have you changed your screen density?
Need to be at default (160) or 720p (240)... those are known Android resolutions and the app market checks for that.

Not seeing this with blazer.
Just FYI.. I've side-loaded at least one app that I needed that said it was incompatible in the market and it worked fine
Also, I restored a version of one that has a lot of data with it and it works fine also.. the backup was made on GB and this is CM9 alpha 2 --- and that's prolly a no-no, but not having that app was the only thing standing in my way of liking 4.0.4 as a daily driver

App download from Android market with non default LCD resolution

It appears that Android market allows downloading apps without checking phone's lcd density any more.
Until yesterday, I couldn't download lots of Android apps because market did not allow me to download because of compatibility issue. To download, I had to change the density to default 240 and delete cache/data and reboot.
Starting from this morning, I can download any apps with density 200.
This means that Android market is not checking the device's resolution any more or they put the Epic4gt to their database with many other allowable densities?
Does anybody else notice that?
I hope this also work for you.
[Update] Please read if you want to know how to
OK. I tested it out a lot more after the above post.
My finding is, there was nothing changed from Android market. Possibly, each app could be changed for its supporting devices and resolutions. But, it's not my case here.
Definitely, Android market has some databases handling the devices and resolutions per each applications. So, first thing is, you need to find out the most commonly accepted resolutions for your device. After that,
1. Set or change your device resolution (density) from build.prop file in \system folder (Don't touch anything else except the ro.sf.lcd_density value). You can use many tools to edit this file.
example: In here 240 is the most commonly accepted LCD density for D710 from Android market
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
2. If Market app is open, then close it and be sure it's not running thru task manager. Go to the Application Manager and delete the cache and data.
3. Reboot and check if the app is downloadable.
4. Go back to build.prop file and change the resolution that you want to use.
example:
ro.sf.lcd_density=190
5. save the file and reboot the phone. Most important thing in here is, DON'T wipe the cache or data. Based on my test, market app uses the first successful configuration data instead of reloading it every time. So, if you wipe the data or cache by some reason, you need to this steps again.
6. Try the market download with the solution that you want to keep.
Bingo!
This steps are based on my test and it worked well on my system -ICS FB27. I don't know how it would work on different build or ROM but I think it would be quite common over most ROMs and build. Do it with your own RISK!

I just tested out quickpic with 190 and 200. 190 does not work but 200 works. I know that 200 was not working until yesterday. This means that A.droid market only added some commonly used densities for D710 or for all devices?

I think it depends on other variables. I just switched my Nexus to 160 to see if the dialer would be offset and apps would download and it works fine. It has same stock 240...On a stock setup dialer is offset at 160 so theme makes a difference too

For me, I use Go Launcher EX. It still has lots of widgets and looks not bad on ICS and GB. For ICS only, some likes Nova launcher because it's better fit for ICS.
I do not use the Nova yet because it does not have widgets as much as Go Launcher.

ADW EX here, most of the launchers look fine at the lower DPI, use a third party dialer, calendar, and calculator app as well as the TW ones will also be borked.
Worked brilliantly!
Currently running Blazer ROM 4.1 w/ EL29 (Gingerbread).
1) Checked that the LCD density was set to 240 via build prop.
2) Opened task manager and check to make sure the Market app was not open.
3) Went to manage the Market App and took it a step further by uninstalling update, deleting cache and delete data.
4) Started the market app, and confirmed I could see the Holo Launcher as a downloadable item.
5) Went into build.prop (using ES File Explorer) and set lcd density to 200. Saved file.
6) Rebooted phone, and went into Market and sure enough, I could see holo launcher.
Awesome job OP!
I use the clear cache/data and reboot method, but my market seems to reset.or something because the Movies tab disappears and apps say not compatible until i rinse and repeat.
I haven't seen a common factor between when it happens. It just seems random.
Has anyone else seen this?

Yes, I have. I'm experiencing this now. It seemed to work once and then a reboot of my phone seemed to undo it. Very very annoying.
