-Only certain regions, specifically the ones listed below, will have some functionality removed. For the majority of regions, there is no impact to your SMS / MMS functionality.
Q-Why is this only for developers?

Q-When can I download the upgrade for my phone?
-You can still access the download at http://htcdev.com for the upgrade for your phone, unless you are in the regions listed below.
Q-Will HTC issue an over the air (FOTA) for HTC Desire update to Gingerbread?

Hope this is useful.

I imagine a port of this for our hd2 would be a good fit being that the hd2 and desire have similar specs. Hope to see some work on this if possible...

New Hero ROM 2.73.1100.5 ?

Hi all,
I just received my new Hero (Belgium) today and the Build number shows 2.73.1100.5. ROM is not branded.
Is this a new release or simply related to the fact that the hero was bought in Benelux ?
can you do a nandroid backup and upload system.img and boot.img ?
I'll do that this afternoon.
does it have youtube?
I am in belgium too. Just out of curiosity, does you hero have the youtube app? Maybe they made a custom build for belgium, as there were problems with this app in belgium, or so I heard.
I bought mine ages ago in Germany
Twitter, Facebook, Flickr plugin, ...
But no specific Youtube App.
To be more specific this one comes from the Netherlands with French, Dutch, English and German language available.
Try contact Paul at modaco.com (his user name here is modaco) to see if you can send him your ROM. He is the man.
Would be cool if this would be a new one :-D whats your Kernel version?
BB. Ro.
My Hero comes with 2.73.783.5
heres a thread about another rom, too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559658
could you make a backup of your version and upload it, so the devs can use it :-D
thanks very much in advance. ro.
Apparently, it is an custom ROM for Benelux (Missing the Youtube App and probably other ones). Anyway I've done a Nandroid backup and can send the system.img and boot.img. Just need a place where I can upload it.
Cheers,
My Hero with 2.73.728.5
Toss it up on rapidshare or mediafire.com.

Does it have the annoying bug of the bouncing keyboard??
Any SMS issue?
Perhaps is a good point to start a new custom rom. Let's see what modaco / drizzy do with that.

For all the unlucky Orange users
Hi guys!
For all the unlucky Orange users,
I have an Orange branded Hero and I was trying to update the ROM but nothing it happened! the updater displays the message:
this update is not compatible with your phone. please download the correct rom
Any ideas or Does anyone know when Orange release the new firmware update?
This just in from HTC, based on email query to their website:

A few Question ...

Hi everyone !
i'm totaly new to the android phone thing
i would like to ask for your help , to get some answers for my questions
got the Desire today and found out that there are two version of the device out
one codenamed 8181 and the other 8183 i think ... is there any difference between the two ?
what does rooting the device mean ? is this the same thing as HardSpl for Winmobile devices ? or is it more like the iphone Jailbreaking ?
what are the things that a rooted device can do that not rooted can't ?
are all the Androids compatible ? ( for example if a version is released on a device can all the devices install it ? )
since i can;'t access android market, is there another place that i can get android games and software ?
does the OS have a File manager ?
can we have custom ringtone , or is it limited to the one in the ringtone menu of the Sense UI ?
THANKS IN ADVANCE EVERYONE !
OK here goes!
Rooting the device is basically removing the HTC restrictions on the rom and therefore you can install custom software on the handset.
I think the 8181 8183 thing is the version of handset. 8183 can only be used on certain networks in certain countries. I'm not 100% sure on that though!
A rooted device can use custom roms, you can use apps like titanium backup that will only work with rooted devices, you can install themes, and you can customise it till you hearts content. Within reason. You can install your apps on the SD card.
All android software is not compatible. You can not for example, install nexus one software on a desire. It can be ported over but this depends on the developers and if they want to do it. We have some superb devs at the minute who have ported the nexus one froyo roms. They are still a tiny bit buggy, but those bugs are literally being fixed one by one every day. I'm using a froyo port and it's perfect for me in everyday use.
Why can you not access the market?
You can download file managers in the market.
You can have custom ringtones and notification tones. If you search these forums you will see how to put them on.
Hopefully this has helped you a bit!
Thanks For Your hElp
Helped a Lot

[Q] Several TP2's Same WM6.5 ROM?

Hi
First of all I'll apologise if the flavour of this post is similar in nature to a few others but I haven't quite found an exact match for what I need when searching through the other posts and I really need a definitive answer.
The background.....
My company use a third party forms application for passing data between our field service technicians and our office. This application had been specifically designed to be run on Windows Mobile devices. Up until very recently has been perfect for the task.
With the arrival of WP7 and Android in the phone market I have been finding it increasingly difficult to source devices running windows mobile. Those which I am still able to get hold of have varying versions of WM running which presents me with a variety of continuity issues. Providing support over the phone can also be quite challenging due to slight version descrepancies.
Recently one of my suppliers has been able to source me a large number of HTC Touch Pro 2 devices, however they are again running slightly different versions of the OS.
I would like to be able to use a standard WM6.5 ROM accross all the TP2's regardless of the original version or region of the device. I have been in touch with HTC without a great deal of joy. They simply refer me to there download page where invariably I am only able to download and install the ROM which corresponds to the individual device serial number.
Finally the Question.....
If I download a custom WM6.5 ROM can I run it accross all my GSM TP2's and if so then can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks for any help you can give
if these are all unbranded phones i suggest hard spl on all of them, and download a stock rom for one of them extract the .nbh file and flash them all to the same build...easiest way....

Are you really suggesting a stock ROM to this guy over your ROMs?
@Si_UK If you want the stock look without the bloat and with more speed, go with Wild Child's Illuminati ROMs. They retain the functionality of the the stock ROMs, but are tweaked for better performance and stability across the board. These ROMs are a very nice business choice. Like he said, though, you will need to Hard SPL the devices to be able to flash anything other than stock ROMs.
Thanks guys
I managed to download a standard rom from HTC using one of my UK device serial numbers and gave it a try to see if the RUU would work on one of the non UK devices. It did and works fine. I was planning on replicating this now with all the devices to ensure they're all the same.
I am now going to try and Hard SPL a device and use custom ROM as recommended. I like the idea of being able to improve the speed and lose some of the crap.
Fingers crossed as I've not done this before

[Q] support in last HTC Gngerbread RUU & Best solution

hi guy's
thanks for your effort here, i have 2 questions:
1-i would like to install new HTC GB RUU, but the problem is arabic language is not supported this time from HTC, when i contact htc they give me some advices to download some app from market (which can help me in some app like browser, sms,) but Facebook and email service cant be replaced..?? so my question is there any way to include arabic language to the last GB upgrade..??
2- in case i can't add arabic to HTC update, can someone advice me which ROM can be simmler to HTC ROM (GB) i mean classic ROM without tweaks, additional app, i just want something basic...
my device is not rooted..
Before you rush off and update to gingerbread with the new RUU you should do some research. The new update comes with an updated bootloader, meaning it cannot yet be rooted or S-OFF'd. There have been many complaints about phones being soft-bricked after the update also (stuck in HTC screen, phone not booting, no recovery, not able to use fastboot as they are S-ON [you'll learn about what all that means in due time] ), as as of yet, there was no way to fix them.
If you want something similar to the new GB, there I believe is a ROM which is based on the actual official GB that has been released, for sense 2.1, I would try RCMix, it gave decent performance and had very little or no bugs that I can remember.

[Q] Questions about curious debranding results

Last night I managed to de-brand my HTC Wildfire from Vodafone to HTC Generic firmware downloaded from shipped-roms.
The procedure seems to be a success, but I noticed something really weird - my Vodafone ES rom was version 2.24, while the HTC one is version 2.22. I checked for an update from the phone after that but no updates were available.
Is this the latest official version? (I know of some cases where companies change the version number just because they added their own apps/logos in the phone)
The procedure I followed was:
Install HTC Sync
Create a Gold Card
Downloaded the latest WWE rom I found on shipped-roms (RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.exe)
Ran the installer and waited for it to finish
Thanks in advance for any replies.
P.S. using gold card doesn't root my phone right? (I don't want it to be rooted at this point, so I thought I'd ask)
It's normal. All different carrier branded ROM's have their own version numbers, and the WWE ROM has the lowest build number among these (i.e . 2.22), Most probably, since it was the first one to be released.
And no, you are not rooted, so don't worry about it.

Oh pretty neat I guess.
Any recommendations on which ROM should I keep?
In the past I was always advised to use stock firmware on smartphones, but not sure about the case with modern ones.
Since you don't want to have root at this point of time, you will have to stick with the Stock ROM. If it works fine for your needs, I would say go for it, but, if you feel the need to experiment / mod, then definitely give ROMs like Cyanogenmod 7 and other Gingerbread a try. Or, if so inclined, you can go for Sense based ROMs as well, which look and feel like the Stock ROM, but with various tweaks, improvements, features and optimizations.
