[Q] Is that possible for Desire hd get a mango? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

See,the hardware of htc radar is so similar to desire hd,especially the CPU,they are totally same, as we all know htc radar is a mango device, so I've got a interesting question here :Is that possible for Desire hd get a mango? Sorry for my poor English ,wish you can understand me ,thank you~

Someone has to port it to the device.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App

so..e...you mean there are possibilities?

You should've just bought the device which official runs the mango update then look for ports of android ROMs for the mango device which is more likely to happen compared to the other way around it which you mentioned on OP.

No
Never happened so far... possibility of it happening is very low, coz mango's proprietary, not open source like Android

but if is not open source, why it can be ported in the HTC HD2? and in the HD7 can be port the android??

No it isn't....it really isn't
The HD2 was originally designed to run Windows Phone OS, 6.0 i believe but correct me if im wrong.
It is in many ways similar to the DHD but they are NOT THE SAME DEVICE. It comes down to the source or WP7 being locked down, it is a MS piece of software, so you will be able to port it to compatible devices such as the HD2, but you would need access to the lowest level of source code in order to write for the DHD hardware (drivers, init etc blah)
This question has been asked so many time, just not about mango...Mods please close.

The hd2 could run it due to a bootloader being made for it to run.

I go back to my original point ITS STILL MICROSOFT CLOSED SOURCE
Who cares that the OS is different, Windows 95 is totally different from Windows 7 you try telling me that they are open source.
Yeesh, Why has this thread not been closed yet? We've had this question like a million times and we always trot out the same answer.

In addition, Windows 7 will not be released on the HTC Touch HD (T8282). Currently, only the HTC Touch HD2 (T8585) is set receive an official Windows Mobile 7 update in the distant future.

You are wrong mate... Microsoft had already stated that no device that was available at the time of the Windows Mobile 6.5 announcement would receive an offical upgrade.
So there's absolutely no chance Windows Mobile 7 will be available for the HD, only the HD2 and future PDA releases

I do not doubt the ability of any of the developers on xda and i am aware of how well the porting of Android is coming along. For your information, I have spoken to a few friends on xda who have been members of the forum longer than I have and carry good knowledge... they have also confirmed this fact and advised me it's unlikely to happen.

Mastoid is right..!
The biggest glitch is the HD's hardware as it is incompatible with WM7 in that the new OS requires a capacitive (multi-touch) screen.
When hardware restrictions are involved, not even the top XDA members can help.

i knew there were restrictions but i was unsure of what kind exactly. Unfortunately, as you stated, the HD does not support the pinch-to-zoom feature.
Thank you band27.
If you watch the WM7 UI on youtube..you are gonna see them using the touch pro of choice and some other phones to promote windows mobile 7..so it is obvious that touch pro and diamond users are going to have WM7 on their phones too.
EDIT watch it yourself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MNbmkes8Lc

Time will tell as it is now nothing more then a waiting game.
The full capacity of WM7 can only be unleashed through the proper devices. Diamond and touch pros are not these devices and if WM7 makes it to these devices in some shape way or form, it will be interesting....
The argument in question was specifically dealing with whether or not the HD could support Windows Mobile 7 - it has been justified that it cannot due to hardware requirements... i rest my case.

You have not made a valid argument yet you have some weird standards of what it means to have the "hardware requirements" then.
Touch Pro has 528 MHz so does the Diamond, HD, Xperia X1, and the TP2. Devices with 528Mhz and above, are ABLE to run Windows Mobile 7. Enough said ^^

just that you're not unleashing W7's potential.
It's just like having a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, which supports HD videos, on a currently-officially-running-under-Windows-Mobile-6.5 HD2 , or if this is unclear, another example: running Windows 7 on a PC with 200Mhz processor and not-touchable-monitor
here's a major requirement that HD not fulfilled:
Touch: Multi-touch required

unless you provide resistive multi-touch software and reconfigure our HDs and so on.
WM7 will not be coming to the HD officially or unoffically, case closed....some of XDA's wonder developes may be able to get some builds working on HD, but these will be limited and you will never see wm7's full potential. It would like having a ferrari, but being restricted to 1st gear and 30 miles an hour. May look nice on the HD, but whats the point of having it

Windows Phone 7 on Desire?

Just Got My HTC Desire (UNLOCKED)
and BTW loving every bit of it
was wondering that if in the future it would be possible to run Windows Phone 7 on HTC Desire??
or
[Poll] Whether anyone is interested to run windows phone 7 on Desire?
P.S. Just Learnt someone is working a port of andoid on the iphone (not )
Lol! That will take some effort to make.
It will be really good though, just depends on what future android releases are like.
Windows Phone can not be ported, cause it is closed source.
And why would you want that crap anyway?
I went with Desire cuz I didnt want to have a windows phone nor Symbian but had no money for an Iphone. lol. So thanks but no thanks.
lol the Desire is much better than the iPhone
You should be happy that you didn't have the money
That's like saying can iPhone OS be ported to the Desire.
Never gonna happen with a closed source OS.

I agree I had a windows phone everything was so complicated... windows stick to home pcs
Dualboot IMO

looks just like htc desire but windows phone 7 .
maybe hardware specs r same as well
Android is open source, it can be configured to diffrent device configurations, windows phone isnt, as the most of the driver, sensors and hardware for the desire was written using the android open source project, they arnt compatible with windows phone full stop lol
If WP7 would ever be ported on Desire, I would probably just test it, to see what its all about. and then delete it...
It would be interesting to play with, but I doubt it would be possible
There's a project porting android to the iPhone, and it's proving very difficult even with Android being open source. So closed source, I don't think it would work..

If htc releases a phone with win phone 7 which hardware is equal to desire - might be a possibility.
But I can not imagine one dev wanting to do that

i dont even think that would be possible, the sdk htc used to write the sensor and harware code isnt compatible with windows, on the other hand, android can be configured to run on hardware written to run on windows phone thats the problem lol

So umnmm.....did anyone actually READ the link?
Today's internet leak is brought to you by our friends at Adobe Photoshop and is apparently known as the HTC Mozart.
A leaked internal Telstra document is offering the first indication of when we might actually see a Windows Phone 7 device in stores and all but confirms that HTC will be one of the first manufacturers to launch a phone running Microsoft's overhauled OS.
We suggest you forget about the image, which is clearly just an HTC Desire with a WP7 home screen photoshopped onto the front of it. However, what is really interesting is the AU$49 per month price cap, Telstra's newest and lowest available Next G cap. Everyone who assumed that the first swell of WP7 phones would run at a premium cost (us included) were obviously mistaken.

I would use it. The more I play with Windows Phone 7 the more I am sure it is going to be a serious player in the mobile world. I love the openess of Android, but I've been playing with several WP7 ui apps and I want more!
I would buy a WP7 phone as a secondary, but as of yet, I don't really like any of the hardware currently available with AT&T bands...
Wrong Thread
WP7 has been ported to HTC HD2; maybe it was easier because WP7 is based on Windows CE 6, as winmo was.

[Q] HD2 Port to Desire HD?

The Desire HD's rom has been ported to the HD2, but can't the HD2 rom be ported back? They have more or less the same specs, and the same screen size, so why?
why would you want to? the HD2 is running windows 6.5, possibly the most hated mobile operating system ever made.
maybe port windows mobile 7 to the DHD, but why port an old edition to a new phone?

Your point is very interesting, I moved from hd2 and still viewed it as one of the most competitive device of it's time. But I would like to make my point clear that running an os from storage card is like crap. Never want to try so I moved to desire hd. Recently I heard it'll be possible to run from nand but it'll be none of my business.

And it is not hated, different stuff is that Android is in fashion now

Desire HD dual boot (Android - Windows Mobile)

hi, i was wondering if there is any possible way to dual boot windows mobile and android on the desire hd? if not, are there any plans by the xda developers to pursue this issu?
Thank you
+1 I want windows mobile on my DHD only because I love the mod.
Sorry but I doute this will happen, though we have many talented ROM developers on here WinMo is closed source, thus not allowed on our devices. In contrast android is open source that is why other phones have both if they're licensed. It could happen but it won't happen here.
Again sorry to dispoint would of loved to try Windows Phone 7
WindowsMobile is impossible. WP7 is possible since hardware are almost identical, even same digitalizers...

I think he meant impossible from the legal point of view, because Microsoft would sue XDA and shut it down. I'm still hoping someone releases a dual boot anonymously.

[Q] WP7 on Desire.

Alright guys..
Chaosz-X said:
Theoretically, it's possible. HD2 has the QSD8250 too, and they have MAGLDR and cLK, and the 8250 is perfect for WP7. So yes, if there's someone out there who can write the code for a nice bootloader capable of booting other OS's, you could run WP7.

This all sounds very nice and perhaps Chaosz was being sarcastic (i can't see these things in English -.-), this does sounds like its not going to happen?
Would it be possible?
Magdlr was (at least I think so) easier to do for the HD2 seeing it was already capable of running WinMo, than it would be to create a similar one for Desire?
Or am I wrong and someone already thought about it and I'm just to retarded to search properly?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It's not legal to do so, MS would be very upset if WP7 was hacked up and put into an Android device, you're forgetting that we use Android Open Source Project, (AOSP) ROMs. Other phone manufacturers for Android are also very relaxed about having their UI's modified and included in ROMs.
MS weren't overly happy having Windows 6.xx made into custom ROMs for the HD2, but the OS was so old, and they already had WP7 in development I guess they just didn't care.
Oh yeah. I totally did forget everything about legal issues. So used to having open source android, that you forget
Thanks man.
