What wireless tether app are you using?

...more information would be helpful.

Version of tether app:
You can also check your SuperUser app and check if you accidentally chose Deny when the app requested permissions...If so, just remove that entry and run the app again.

Don't the CMs come with the Sprint hotspot already hacked and ready to use?

Try Barnacle Tether. It's free in the market.
From my experience, Wireless Tether only really works well with Sense roms and Barnacle only really works well with AOSP. I usually keep both just in case.
Also, if you want to, try uninstalling and re-installing Wireless Tether. This will force the program to re-config itself for use on that particular software. Could help, I don't know.
Okay thanks ill try that

You can use the native hotspot. if you use the wireless tether it says error, and you just need to reboot to fix it, don't use wireless tether; barnacle is okay though.
Just tried that (unloading Wireless tether and reverting to the 2.0.5 pre8 version and still get the following errors - all 'failed":
Activating WIFI interface
Setting ad hoc mode
setting essid
setting channel
I am using RC 7 (final)
the native app doesn't work either - didn't try barnacle yet
Thanks
Same thing happened to me a while ago

Did you reboot and try built in like roxxorz said? Wireless tether is not going to work at all.

Enabling Tethering or Hotspot?

I have an Incredible through Verizon. I've rooted the phone and was thinking of installing CM7. My purpose is to use the phone's data connection with my iPad, preferably through Bluetooth or WiFi.
I found instructions on how to enable tethering, and even found an app, EasyTether, to hook up a computer via USB cable. What would I need to enable the hotspot feature...?
Wifi tether should already be preinstalled on cm7 so you should only need to open that app and begin tethering!

How do you enable wifi tether on cm7, and is it free of charge on the phone bills?

The wireless tether on CM7 isn't so much an "app" they include, its actually built in to the wireless network settings menu. You can also download an app called "wireless tether" (requires root) to use on the ROM of your choice, even stock. These options do not go through Verizon so no, there isn't an additional charge.

Barnacle Wifi Tethering

So now that the GSII is rooted. I was attempting to use Barnacle but it doesn't seem to function. Anyone else try this? I'm using Barnacle so I don't have to pay $15/month for the Tethering feature.
Why not use the standard hotspot software in the settings menu? That works with error of you remove the tethering manager app.

+1 if you freeze/uninstall the Tethering Manager app with Titanium Backup, tethering instantly works like it should.
Thanks I never knew that the Tethering Manager was what prevented tethering.

Tethering?

I found that the tethering app listed on here a while back doesn't work anymore with the newest update. Anyone have a suggestion what app does work with tethering on the new update?

Install hotspot shield vpn and run it with the tether app. By tether app i assume the treve mod tethering.

I don't run mods, I'm on stock, there was a post that had wifi tether. But what's the use to having a vpn block? I already have a vpn service on the phone.

That treve app is in the play store. Its not really a mod just install that and run it with ur vpn service.
Can't find the treve app on store either?
I've got cyanogen mod the last nightly
No treve in app store, you have the apk?

Try foxfi
Yea use hotspot shield to avoid the redirect clockwork tether mod to connect to PC via USB or Trevor wifi mod or if or using 10.1 use the windows based hotspotshild as soon as u tether or phone through the settings in 10.1
I have hotspot shield, and I downloaded foxfi, foxfi works with no problem, however, my tethering app from tmo launches as soon as I launch foxfi. Will my provider see that I'm tethering with foxfi? I also run the hotspot shield in conjunction with foxfi, will that still allow reporting to the carrier? The other tethering app you all are talking about, it's not on the app store. Any other tips? Thanks for the help so far.

Could be a bad flash or download
Check md5sum and try a clean flash

I had the same issue but stopped and restarted it a few times setting up ssid and password and it did eventually showed up.
Make sure you are using SuperSU as opposed to any other superuser app, I can confirm this is a requirement. Also grab the Treve version, clear app data and try to start it with 100% default settings.

You can just use the built-in wifi tethering with AOSP ROMs. No need to install anything extra. Works great.
