Unlock Branded [SoftBank Japan] Desire HD, No Sim Card - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there,
For the past few days I have been browsing through the XDA pages but was not able to locate the necessary information. May be I was looking under the wrong terms or key words.
Anyways, I have switched from iPhone to HTC Desire HD. I got it second hand and it has no SiM card. Basically, when I insert my uSiM it shows emergency call screen only.
I was browsing through XDA and as far as I got it I first need to activate the phone with the necessary sim card in order to unlock the phone. Is there possibility to `hactivate` the phone with no original sim.
And can you people help me to locate necessary information on the site?
Thanks a ton in advance!
Peace,

Anything on this one?

I wish I could help. I have rooted my SoftBank HTC Desire HD and used loads of roms but I got it from SoftBank (with a SoftBank sim) so I haven't explored unlocking.

Let`s say I can borrow a SIM card from a friend and activate the phone for a while. Could you please direct me @ step-by-step rooting and unlocking guide. Coz, I am bit confused.
As far as I got it, once I activate the phone I need to install Visionary on it via mSDCard. And then I can use certain tools to unlock the phone. Is my thinking correct?

Backup APN:
Get the program APN Backup & Restore - and backup your APN (the SoftBank internet access login and password) to your SD Card. It gets saved as an xml file. (Call it something you wont forget.) Here is the APK of the APN Backup & Restore program to keep on your SD Card.
Then when you do flash a new rom - instantly disable data, run APK Backup & Restore, delete the APNs that come with the rom (even if they say SoftBank) and restore your own SoftBank original one. (Then you can connect and you know you will not be billed incorrectly for using the wrong access details. (This happened to me a few years ago with Windows Mobile and SoftBank)).

[QUEST] To save a ex-blacklisted Hero

Super condensed prologue:
UK T-Mobile HTC Hero bought from ebay
Unlocked via an IMEI generated code (i.e not serial cable method)
Worked fine for 3 months
Sudden onset of 'No Service' and 'sim cannot connect to this network
The battle:
Use CheckMEND to find status of IMEI
It's bloody blacklisted! (Seller is conducting insurance fraud...)
Contact T-mobile - they confirm there are many problems with the IMEI
Contact the seller - no help
Explain to seller I have figured out his full name, address, phone number and that I now know his wife was recently prosecuted for benefit fraud (she is actually the registered seller)
He tells me he will call later
No call - I call him, he says I won't get my money back
The uplifting moment:
I call Tmobile - they have now removed the blacklist
The seller must have informed Tmobile that it wasn't really lost
The crash:
The blacklist seems to have modified the handset so it's locked to Tmobile again.
T-mobile SIMs work.
All other report No Service.
Also, going into the test mode (VOL DOWN + PWR ON) I find that the SIMLOCK status now reports FILE OPEN FAILED!
Quest?:
I will fix this problem....
I've already:
Made a gold card
Flashed Generic latest ROM
Does anyone know how to re-flash the SIMLOCK area - even to default would help?
Would running the CID commands through a serial cable help?
To note: Now rooted with instant root. Will try and flash a recovery image and see what happens.
[METHOD] (source forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4750940&postcount=4 - edited a live download location for Instant Root)
I first followed the instructions on making a goldcard and then flashed the 2.73.405.5 WWE rom fine.
Now make sure you have the cm-hero-recovery.img (content.modaco.net/dropzone/m...covery-1.0.zip) on the root of your sdcard.
Aswell as Instant Root (tecnophone.it/wp-content/uploads/Instant-Root-by-tecnophone.zip) now install Instant Root on the phone.
It should pop up with a notification "instant root was successfully" or along those lines. (If you have a problem installing Instant Root make sure Settings>Applications>Unknown Sources is checked)
Instant root then allows for root access with adb shell using the following 2 commands:
1) adb shell
then
2) su
the icon should change from a $ to #.
Now flash the recovery image with the following command:
1) flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-hero-recovery.img
[/METHOD]
If flashing fails I'll try doing this with serial commands. I've seen a few people about the net with similar issues so hopefully if I am successful!
Just some extra info...
The handset may not be locked back to t-mobile as you cant lock a handset OTA, T-mobile are the only UK network that can actually amend the blacklist for other networks as its owned by T-mobile. When a csa/csr what ever they call them, removes the blacklist it removes it from T-mobile only as the assumption is you should not remove another networks blacklist request. If you are not the original owner of the handset and some CSR has removed they they have made a mistake (you bonus) but if it was not originally blacklisted by t-mobile the other networks will stay dead to it..
Thanks for the reply.
I called o2 who say it is not blacklisted on their system.
Hmmm, I'm not sure where I am left...
It works on T-mobile. but not other network.
It doesn't ask for an unlock code - Is there another lock somewhere?
I have just remembered the name of the system "Dali" if you speak to a team manager and say you have been told you need the blacklist removing from it if its still on..
If its not showing on that then it must be a handset issue..

It is definately no longer blacklisted - meaning it's handset.
So this could be coincidental timing? I have a copy of the CheckMEND report saying it had been blacklisted.
Are we sure that T-mob cannot do something OTA?
Is there any way to restore the simlock data to default - I.e. relock it so I can re-enter my unlock code?
Im not sure about re locking it tbh, good luck!!

Is there anyone who can help my poor HTC Hero!
instead of using the gold card way to get the recover image use http://android.modaco.com/content/h...ng-the-patched-recovery-image-on-your-device/ if you havent already got it on, then put generic rom on and re try,, just an idea its how i flashed mine with new roms, never used a gold card

I've got the patched recovery image on now - using gold card.
Could you do me a favour and do the following and post results for comparison:
Turn phone on holding VOL DOWN + POWER
Then goto Fastboot
Then press CALL to do the SIMLOCK test
I get:
--
FAT32 Init Ok
Open File Fail
---
Your result may really help guide my research&testing here!
I also just thought - would one of those Rebel Sim Cards get round this?!
I have just ordered an unlock code on ebay to help you test as mine is t-mobile uk also,
Fat32 Init OK
Open File Fail
Reboot device?
is what i got!!

I'm using a custom ROM but is based on a stock one.
I have an unlocked phone and I also get the same output regarding simlock.

Unlocked Orange HTC desire. Internet not working

Hello everyone,
I recently bought a Desire on ebay. The phone is from the Orange. I have unlocked the simlock with a code that i bought online. I am able ot make and receive calls. It so happens that i am not able to use the internet. I have have seen loks about rooting and changing rom in the site and i have to say that i am a bit lost as how to proceed. If i could get rid of the Orange stuff that would be great. But if that is not possible i would like to get the internet part of the phone working. I have to also point out that i'm not sure what i'm at when it comes to the technical stuff. So in friendly fashion that I have noticed here on the site I ask for assistance and advice.
Roger
You haven't mentioned which provider you are trying to use, and since you talking about removing the sim lock it presumably isn't Orange,
Check your APN settings - Menu -> Settings -> Wireless & Network -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names
Regards,
Dave
Hi Dave
I'm trying to get set up on O2 IRL.
I've got to the APN screen and it is blank.
You need to populate the apns for o2 - they are different for payg and monthly contract. These links might help

To debrand the phone and remove orange, 2 choices: root to use any roms you like, or just gold card method to go to generic htc rom - quite easy to do, took me 30 mins. i used this link to make my sd card a gold card:
http://www.roothtchero.co.uk/goldcard-2
then i flashed RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11_release_122704.exe from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667 after that set up phone and latest update downloaded via wifi to go to version 1.21.405.2
Hi Dave
I got the internet settings from the O2 Ireland web site. It works fine now that i have added the info.
Thank you for your help
Roger

[Q] How to unlock a Desire from Softbank?

Hi, I am a newbie here!
I have a Desire from Softbank (Japanese carrier) which I would like to use with other SIM cards. But when I put another SIM card inside, I can not enter any unlock code.
Does anybody have an idea for this? I am willing to do whatever from soldering, over rooting to saying words like "open sesame"
Holy crap! I just did that two nights ago.
Basically, the stock Softbank branded ROM on there is locked to a Softbank usim and there's no way around it with the stock ROM.
To get your phone on another carrier you need to:
0. Flashing your phone will remove all the data on your phone so backup all your stuff to your computer. Use the trial of MyBackup.
1. Make yourself a goldcard (Millions of tutorials all over the place so look one up). Make sure you have a backup of all the stuff from your SD and phone.
2. Go here and get yourself the latest World Wide English (WWE) RRU to flash your ROM to the latest stock HTC one. This will "de-brand" your phone. I used
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release
3. With USB Debugging enabled on your phone and your goldcard inserted, run that updater in windows. It should complete, rebooting your phone a few times. Your phone will show the htc logo instead of the Softbank one while booting now.
4. Now your phone isn't locked to the Softbank usim but it is still locked to the Softbank carrier. So you need to go buy an unlock code somewhere online (I got one for $13, just google "HTC Desire Unlock Code").
5. Reboot your phone with the sim you want to use inserted. When you slide to unlock your phone, it'll ask you for an unlock code. Put that code you bought in for both codes it requests.
6. Restore your backups
7. Enjoy your desire on whatever carrier you want.
My experience is that it works great on at&t in the US but is limited to Edge speed for internet.
On a side note, I'm using Simeji for my Japanese Input Method
I'd simply use HTC Desire Sim unlock utility..
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App

Use the sim unlock utility...

Htc evo v 4g unlock / modify

Hi,
I bought a HTC EVO V 4G (Virginemobile) in US.
- First : I am linked to VirginMobile and I would like to find a solution to UNLOCK my phone
- Second : Now I am in Belgium and I need to find a solution to transfert the data from my actual SIM card (old phone with SIM card) and flash my new phone with the data to be able to use the new one (as a phone) .
If somebody know the procedure to realize those modifications?
Thank you in advance for your help

problem with O2 internet.

Hi all
Ok I have searched around the internet and the problem I have is my settings for internet dont save. It just says it did but does not. Resetted the phone cleared it and no joy. O2 have said they cant send a text message to update the phone i am not sure why. I have read that this happens with o2 sometimes and cant find a solution. The GSM works fine but not the 4g.
I can put my other sim card in like vodafone and EE, it works fine. Anyhow it's on android 7 and the last thing I want to try is put stock android but I don't know how to do that as it might be glitch on the android system files.
The problem is strange as it only does this with o2 but not with other sim cards as you don't need to go and manually put internet settings in. Even if you did manually put it in does the same thing... as it says saved and then does not.
I have updated a samsung with Odin and a guide off sammobiles site but not sure what the HTC secondary official site is, as I want the original rom and how to install it.
Any help would be nice.
Thanks
When you insert the sim card you should get prompted for O2 payg or O2 monthly etc.. If you don't get a prompt then it could be a simcard issue. Does the O2 sim work as it should in any other device?
Beamed in by telepathy.
Stock roms can be found (together with flashing instructions) in the ReadMe thread. Take a look at the RUU section of the thread.
