If you're using FRX7.1 it already does it.
Mine flashes green when I get a text or voice mail and red (orange?) when I get an email.

Indeed, to the first part. FRX07.1 now has userland control the LED's instead of the sleep state.
So this is what I've noticed thus far. When plugged in, the LED will be orange for charging below 90%, and green when above 90. The notification I believe trumps it tho, and AFAIK the only notification from email/text/etc should be green blink. The only time I've seen orange blink is when the battery is critically low! Pretty sure that's all the feedback it provides, let me know if you guys see something different.

oh! until now I have knew that why the LED turn on green while I 'm connecting it to PC ( firstly, I don't why and it turn on green only when battery 's full ).
Dear Arrrghhh,
as my idea it turn on orange while it's connecting to PC ( sync or charge a battery if the power less than 100%) until to 100% the led will become Green it notice for user know that battery 's full )
Could you please create more function as same as WM while connecting to PC, I thing it will be longer life of battery
it's : user will have 2 choices ( agree or not agree charge battery while connect to pC)

The LED deosnt work for me only when I charge my phone but not when I get a text

Uhhh... mine definitely blinks green when I get a text. Perhaps I have it backwards and when it's plugged in that notification trumps the other...? Are you using some 3rd party app to handle texts? You get no blink on or off the charger? I don't know why it wouldn't work for you, but does work for (literally) everyone else.
You didn't change anything with FRX07.1? Nothing? Just want to make sure, because if you did something like move to an old rootfs, userland notifications won't work properly.

My experience is just the opposite, charging (solid, orange or green) trumps notification (blinking). That's how it works in WinMo, so it wasn't a surprise to see the same in FRX.

I'm using K9 email which (in theory) lets you set the LED color, but no matter what I use it's always orange.
I do also get blinking orange for critically low battery.

Perhaps that's your problem? Dunno. You'll need to do some legwork if you modified the way the system handles text messages.
I use Google Voice and the stock messaging app for MMS. Both work great, and notify me correctly. As does the built-in GMail app...

...You just removed it from the app drawer right? You didn't actually remove the apk from /system/app did you...?
If you did remove it from /system/app, just pull the apk out of a fresh system.ext2. Or just throw in a fresh system.ext2 file, you won't lose any data assuming you leave the data.img untouched/intact.

Event notification LED issue

Well, in short, the notification led doesn't flash red anymore when an event takes place (missed call/sms). The phone has been upgraded from wm5 to wm6 a while ago and if I recall correctly, the led used to flash at that time. However, since it was simlocked, I had it taken to someone for unlocking. The guy reinstalled wm6 on it but that didn't help the unlocking procedure (it's a T-Mobile Dash actually, which are a bit more difficult to crack, requiring obtaining an unlock code from a central server based on the IMEI). I'm not sure at which point the LED stopped working, but right now it's not working anymore.
Any ideas ?

Well, this is what I posted on HTCforums as well, but didn't get a reply. As of yesterday, I have also upgraded to win mobile 6.1 (and WOW, this is all I can say ... just ... WOW) from 6.0. However, the notification LED issue is still happening.
The issue is somewhat annoying since I have no way of knowing whether I have any missed calls or new text messages.
Thanks in advance.
P.S.: I also have an Asus v1210 (Vodafone 1210) with winmo 6.
Try this...led utility
Thank you for the reply. Installed the app, and it seems like quite a useful little thing. Unfortunately the LED issue still occurs, still no red blinking. At this point I'm considering a more low tech issue such as the LED itself (well, just the red part) being damaged. Currently I have the upper LED displaying green and yellow (when charging) and the lower LED blinking sometimes, just no signs of red lights
could be, the only time i seen a red led on mine was when the batterys low.
I thought the only LED you could use for notification is fast flashing green for the Excalibur, at least that's all I could find after looking in many places for different color notifications.
If anyone does know how to get different color notifications or solid rather than flashing please share.

LED-notification

Hi,
I noticed that the LED-notification of my silver Desire doesn't work when I receive/missed a phone call, email or sms... I remember that the LED started to blink on my old Hero when I received or missed a call, sms or email.
Someone at work received his Desire too today and I tested his LED notification and it doesn't work neither, now I'm wondering whether all Desire's have got that problem or is it normal that it doesn't light up? Maybe it's an issue of ALL desire's?
I need to know it asap because I have to go back to the shop if it's actually broken. I can get a replacement...
Mine works so far
mine works but seems to give up after a short while, which is useless tbh....
JAmes.
Yeah mine works, but I did read in another thread that the notification turns off after about five minutes...making it kinda pointless
Same thing happends on Legend too !
the led is the small thing on top.
Not the big thing in the bottom.
There have been other people that made this mistake, so i'm just making sure

??? My desire only has one led if you don't count the buttons.
The hero has a trackball, with a led. The optical sensor in the desire doesn't have a led.
The led on the hero also stopped blinking after a minute or 5, very strange design...
Yep. It seems 5 minutes is all we get... I'm sure its a fairly simple fix though?
the 5 minute notification LED is plain SUPID !
is there an app/widget for this ?! a LED-notification-keep alive or something ?
Use handcent for sms, and touchdown for emails. You can also try missed calls

I'm using MissedCalls, both for SMS and Lost Call.
@pina_:
verify that (translated from italian menĂ¹...)
menĂ¹/setup/tone and display/blink notify has all the mark checked !
I couldn't find "handcent" on the Market ...
But Missed Calls kicks asss, just what the typical Legend/Desire needs.
thanks fblasot!
Later edit: yeah .. Missed Calls does not work on my 2.1 Desire.. The notification LED still shuts down after 5 minutes ... Bummer

oh,
I was convinced that led was working well...
Yeasterday I tried with a lost call and after 5 minutes led stops blinking
But the option "repeat sound & vibration" after N minutes work, so at least some sort of notification is still available with missed call.
I read on the missed call application note that led notification is a problem of android 2.1...
Today I tried with an sms and led blinks for 10 minutes (with each 5 minutes sound and vibration still available...).
Sorry to drag up an old topic but I have a minor problem and didn't really want to start a new one for it.
When my Desire is charging is shows an orange LED to show that it isn't finished and a green one when it is. Lovely. Problem is, if I receive a text while it's charging, it then starts flashing blue to show me I have a message but after I have read or replied to it, the charging LED won't come back on. The phone is still charging but it doesn't light up.
Is this a common thing? I'm using Handcent by the way.

Charging LED app

Not sure if this was already posted or not but one feature I really miss from my HTC Incredible was that when it was charging a small red LED would begin to light up. On the Galaxy Nexus nothing lights up to let you know the phone is charging. I tried Light Flow, which is a great app by the way, but I really just wanted that one simple feature; the ability to have the phone light the LED when it was charging. A quick Market search found me this:

Hope this helps someone out.
Works well, thanks for the link

seems nice feature, but what happen if there's message/email coming in? will it blink per notification color or it will override everything else?

Actually, this goes a little bit farther than lightflow does when it comes to the actual charging of the phone. It changes color while charging, based on the current percentage. I could see how that might be useful to some people. Personally, I like lightflow a lot more, because I like my led to notify me of much more information. For charging, I have solid white while charging, solid green when fully charged, and solid red when battery is low.
led wont work when charging
whenever my phone is plugged in, none of the led notifications work, lightflow or GalaxyNexusLED app, any solutions?
the notifications do work when my phone is not plugged in
works great nice app!!!
works great nice app!!!
Not working properly for me. If plugged in when phone boots, it doesn't trigger. And when unplugging, it keeps blinking until next reboot.
Running MCR 8 with franco nightly #7.
i think the app lightflow is the best..
you can manage for each notification different color of the light

How many LED notification colors are there when using Light Flow?

For those with the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, how many different color notifications are there for the LED when you use Light Flow?
17 colours to choose from on mine, it seems.

But will the phone display all those 17 or only say 4?
The Nexus has a RGB LED so any of the 17 colors can be mixed without a problem.
Why don't you try it by yourself? Lazy?
Despite that I have 19 colors to choose from on my GSM Nexus with Light Flow (paid).
Just a quick warning from my experience with Light Flow lite.
I installed the free version and it worked fine - I think I used 10 different colors and most of the time the worked well (sometimes the light would stay on when the notification was cleared).
However, I was having battery life issues so I uninstalled the application.
This actually GREATLY improved my battery life - but now my led is broken. It will only flash white, and it doesn't work for all events that it did before I used LFL. I've done a factory reset and a battery pull and the led will not go back to green.
I've emailed the developer and hope I'll get some help. It's a little hard for me to understand how this could happen and I hope I can fix it.
Just a word of caution to anyone considering using this app.

I don't think mine has ever flashed green? The stock notification for mail + sms is white, and tweetdeck is yellow... not seen anything else?
I too uninstalled Liteflow, because I found it frequently flashed forever until I rebooted when there were no notifications.
On the Nexus one, CM7 had a slider control for colors. You could create hundreds of different shades.
I think the Galaxy Nexus is the same. At this point we're only limited by software. RootzBoat rom had a LED color control built right into the general settings menu, but only had a few color selections. I used blue and I liked it alot. I don't think it allowed you to change it PER APP, but just the general color for all. Still cool to mess with again.
3rd party programs require to be run in the background as an app or service, but require constant monitoring. Kernel level control is best, but we'll have to wait for CM9 for that.

Ok then - maybe I've lost my mind! I thought I remembered it being green originally but it's entirely possible you're correct. Would make much more sense than to think that an app could 'break' the led functionality.
+1 for jmbillings.
Natively the LED is only flashing only whitish and as to be readable in a couple of threads not even that is working properly at all times.
Never had any issue with Light Flow except a not stopping notification ones a week. Bought it for Whatsapp and I'm still happy. No battery drain at all at no time.
you guys must be getting dozens of notifications in a day.
i've never even seen lightflow pop up under my battery statistics.
I use light flow on my Nexus and it works great!
Same here lightflow works great on my Nexus. And every single color I tried works. If some people are having trouble with the light still flashing even after swiping the notification away, try going into the app itself. It apparently will keep flashing until I actually check the notification out in the app.
Light flow didn't work for me, it would either flash constantly in test mode or do nothing. My LED does flash green for chompSMS but white for everything else.
light flow works 100% for me. Notifications always work and no notification his become 'stuck' when I clear it...

Well maybe it's a native problem that I'm having. It will not notify me now of a missed call or an email. The only time I'm seeing the led blink is when I get a text message.
The developer actually took the time to reply to me and make some recommendations to improve battery life.
I'll give it another try, still having intermittent battery issues but may be more related to location polling than this app.
Thanks again to the folks here who take the time to help out.

Yes, I do.
I don't see it under the native battery stats - it did show up fairly high on the list when I was using battery monitor widget.
Honestly, trying to figure out my battery issues has me suspicious of every app I install...
Works perfectly on my Verizon Nexus as well. The only hiccup is Handcent. If I dismiss the popup window on Handcent, the LED will continue to flash, until I actually go into Handcent and view the message,
I was using it to alert me if bluetooth was on, and that notification would tend to persist after I had turned bluetooth off.
For those having issues clearing the LED notifications, keep in mind just clearing the notification from the drop down won't turn off the LED. It will stay on until the notification is further acknowledged (i.e. the SMS message is 'read' under messages...or email etc).
Also, something I've found helpful is the lightflow debugger widget that comes installed with the app. From there you can clear all notifications as well as see what the last notification was
Technically the phone works well with all 17 colors - but as a male i must say that there are only approx. 8 colors existing in the world...
I think they need to combine the app (LightFlow) with the color selector from AOKP ROM. Its basically the MS Windows/Photoshop color chooser we're all used to: a circle with a slider to the right. The combination of those allows you to choose ANY color in the spectrum. And the LED will display it. (Blood red is my favorite....not as "light up your room" as the default cyan/white)
I did catch the LED lighting up yellow when I had a text that didnt get delivered....not sure if thats the SMS app Im using (GoSMS) or the kernel/ROM but something made it flash different color at different frequency.
Id love LightFlow just for all the apps it responds to....especially Words with Friends.

Disabling Charge LED

I depend on the LED to see notifications when my phone is idle.
I've read that charging the phone forces the LED on and blue.
Assuming I will be rooting, and using xposed, is there any option available to disable this such that the LED functions normally at all times?
Notification light comes on as normal even when charging.

Basically, while charging the phone has a solid blue LED whoever if you get a notification the blue stops and is replaced by the blinking green or whatever colour for the other notification is

No idea about it being forced on while dash charging but that's just to indicate it's charging at dash speeds. Notification alerts will blink priority over charge indication.
What I think: When you charge at 'normal' speed the led is red, with dash it is blue (and this can't be changed). That's all... Like said as soon as you get a message it will change until you checked it.

I think you're missing the point.
Suppose I have an notifications for specific email accounts that's blue and red.
I'm on the other side of the room (or in bed) and I glance at my phone to see if I have anything I need to address.
The LED is on and Blue/Red.
Do I have an email or is it charging?

If you are willing to flash a nougat based rom ( as I have flashed AOKP N 7.1 on mine), you'll get the option to disable charging led under lights in display settings.
P.S. Not sure other N ROMs have got this option or in stock OOS or CB.

That being the case, would you recommend any particular 6.0.1 rom (that does allow me to disable the charging LED) then?
I'm trying to get as close to stock Android or at the very least stock OxygenOS as humanly possible while still being able to disable the hardware buttons in favor of enabling the software ones.
Just to update, I found (still on my Nexus 5) an option in Gravitybox to disable charging LED. I don't know if that would work on the Oneplus 3, but it looks hopeful. I'm likely going to make the purchase soon then.
