[Q] Clockworkmod xperia play - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have serached and searched. was unable to find anything so im rly sorry if i dubble post.
But will clockworkmod from Rom manager V4.5.0.1 Work on xperia play R800I
and
If im trying to flash it trough Rom manager can it cause any harm if it is not working.
i would like to avoid to flash yet another rom with Fastboot yet again if i can use a more easy on the go alternative.
Thanks in advanced.

No cwm is only supported by using dooms kernal. Wish itvwas that easy

You have two options either flash dooms kernel which comes with recovery or boot free xperia recovery (which require unlocked bootloader) both threads u can find under xperia play android development section ,pls. do some search

Flashtool
It would be awesome if it were that easy man, but unfortunately Flashtool is the best alternative unless your really patient

flashtool...... ?

I have a stock build on a rooted xperia play with unlocked bootloader ofc... im not too comfortable with the process of flashing new roms. i have no idear how to flash the kernal in ordre to flash cyanogenmod 7. any help doing so would be apriciated alot. thats why i asked if there where an alternative.
will something like Xcharger Reboot option be any helpfull ?

CyanogenMod 7.1 Official also includes CWM.
Installation guide:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Sony_Ericsson_Xperia_Play:_Full_Update_Guide

I like the openness of cyanogen but i like having all my playstation stuff sooo.. would it be possible to flash cwm when doing the cyanogenmod flash and then use flashtool to install stock 2.3.3 so i can backup and choose whichever one i want in the future?

thanks alot just what ive been looking for. but i have a question
i installed another stock rom on the phone version 2.3.3
Basebandversion 7x30A-AAABQMAZM-1290_21-22
and Kernalsystem 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected]#1
Will i have to install another kernal or can i just go haead and flash ?

Flashtool?

For flashing CM you have to flash the CM kernel (boot.img) that comes in the zip package of CM , u hav to unzip the latest CM FXP package and flash boot.img through fastboot put the file boot.img in the same folder in your pc where fastboot is located and copy the CM Rom zip file on the root of your sdcard. Now connect ur phone in fastboot mode (turnoff & hold the search key while connecting to pc) check if ur phone is connected properly by entering the following command in command prompt
fastboot getvar version
if it return some value like 0.3 then ur connected correctly. Now for flashing the CM Kernel enter following command
fastboot flash boot boot.img
If all is done correctly a message will appear in command prompt stating success. Now turn on the phone while the phone is booting up press the volume rocker repeatedly until the phone enters CWM recovery mode , now install the CM Rom from ur sdcard remember to perform a nandroid backup and wipe the data/cache before installing.

First restore ur phone to the official
firmware through nandroid restore (u had that backup right ?) then U have to use flashtool for flashing that official Rom, search for flashtool 2.9.1 beta (only this version is compatible with play not use version 3.0) u will find that in xda forums download the file and unpack on the desktop a folder flashtool will be created inside that folder look for subfolder named drivers there will be an executable file ggsetup.exe run that file to install the drivers necessary ,after that copy the firmware .ftf file in the subfolder named firmwares. Now switch off your phone but not connect to pc yet. Run flashtool.exe in that application you will find flash button click on it and then select the firmware u have downloaded to flash , now u will see several files such as adsp.sin etc show up on the right side of flashtool you have to select all those files by ctrl+a or click seperately to select all of them after you are done with it make sure you have clicked wipe data on the upper right side and then click flash now the flashtool screen will show this message - preparing files for flashing , now keep ur phone ready u have to connect ur phone only after a message showing a image of x10 popup because it has some timeout (keep the back button pressed when connecting to pc a green led should lit up on power on/off button that means u are connected in flash mode) now the flashtool should also show phone connected and it will start flashing firmware automatically. Once flashing is done turn on the phone go to settings and turn on usb debugging and unknown sources.
After that u have to repeat the process of flashing CM kernel and flashing CM through recovery described earlier.

[Q] Xperia arc s boot loop help!

My arc s went into a boot loop after i replace the ICS software buttons (framework-res.apk) using root explorer and forgot to change it's permissions... =(
Is there anyway to enter recovery mode or root explorer using the pc so i can flash the zip or change the permissions there without booting the phone?
Do you have cwm installed? Are you able to access it? Just adb shell into it and chmod the file to the correct permissions, or you could just replace the original.

EDITED : I'm not sure did i install CWM... is there anyway to install it through pc? or change permissions through pc?
This thread contains the tutorial for going into CWM without installing it, and I just copy the most important part out
Copied from vaibhavknockout's thread
--------------------------------------------------
2. – Download attachments below titled recoveryARC.img and RootXperia.zip. Thanks to jlmcr87 and his post. Copy and paste the file recoveryARC.img to the fastboot folder (folder containing fastboot.exe). Also, transfer the file RootXperia.zip 'as it is' to your SD card.
3. - Open the fastboot folder. Right click on the folder background while pressing shift key on windows PC. Click "Open command window here".
4. - A black cmd window will open. Type in the following command - "fastboot.exe boot recoveryARC.img".
5. - Switch off your phone, connect to the USB cable while holding the menu button (rightmost of the three buttons on Arc). A blue led should light up (It is an indicator of entering in fastboot mode).
6. - Let the process run. Look at the cmd window. If it says the process is complete, remove the USB cable.
7. - On your phone, a menu should appear. This is Clockworkmod/ CWM recovery menu (more about this in later questions). Use volume down key to go to 'install zip from SD card' and enter by pressing camera button.

After going into CWM, flash the zip containing the framework-res.apk to reboot

try with flash tool installing the factory android, or another room that you are sure works on your phone. Maybe its a prob with the room. wiping all is the safest way but if you are sure its just the room you can uncheck the wipe data box and it will work.
hope it helps
Flash the original the factory image ftf file using flash tool. Then start all over again root, cwm, flash rom

That should only happen if your bootloader is locked and you tried flashing a custom kernel.
I would just go with pcc and "repair" the phone.

How to downgrade to the stock ROM on the Xperia ARC

Hi,
I am currently using CM9 on my Xperia ARC, there are certain bugs which disallow me to use my Video camera and there are some WiFi issues too. Since the official ICS update is already out for the Xperia Arc, I wanted to rollback to the stock OS.
Can someone please guide me through the entire process or even point out to a post on this forum that will help me in doing so.
I went across many suggested post but there were none for the Xperia ARC.
Thank You.
This is the latest framework for xperia ARC " NOT ARC S "
http://www.mediafire.com/?rtoaz2tc6c7bsjc
simply .. download , extract , flash through flashtool .. It contains baseband , kernel and ROM, all in one =)
BTW , It's not Rooted since It's the latest Official framework
Use the Search button for the Root ..
regards ..
I think the user above means firmware, not framework.
Anyway it's easy, just use Flashtool and official FTF file. As you said you were running CM9 you must already have an unlocked bootloader. These steps are for unlocked bootloader phone and this is how I did it on my Xarc.
Go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330314
and download official LT15i 4.1.B.0.431 Generic Global World (big bold letters, you can't miss it in post #1)
Unrar this file to get the official Sony 4.0.4 FTF.
Then go to:
http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
Click the tab that says "Installation".
(I assume you are running MS Windows)
Download Full Install, Windows Edition - v0.8.0.0
Download Updates, Windows Edition - v0.8.5.0
On your computer run installer v0.8.0.0 first, then run v0.8.5.0 to make it the latest version of Flashtool. Flashtool by default installs to c:\flashtool and doesn't create a shortcut in start menu, so you will have to find it with file explorer (My Computer).
Power off phone. Do not connect data cable yet!
Run Flashtool.
Drag the FTF file onto the Flashtool window.
In the window that appears, leave everything as is, but tick "No final verification" in the bottom right corner.
Click "OK" and wait a few seconds.
When the message appears, hold down the back button on your phone and insert the data cable.
Notification LED should turn green and Flashtool begins flashing the firmware.
Wait until flashing is complete. Flashtool will say "Ending flash session" and say something about phone rebooting when it is finished. Wait about a minute after these messages appear and you can then unplug the data cable.
Now for Clockworkmod:
Go to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1680793
and download LT15i Arc v2 from first post.
This is the stock kernel with CWM added.
With phone powered off, hold down menu button and insert data cable. Notification LED should turn blue.
Run Flashtool. Flashtool should say "Device connected in fastboot mode"
Click the button in Flashtool which looks like a lightning bolt (the button furthest to the left.) Tick "Fastboot mode" and click OK.
On right side "Select Kernel to flash", find the kernel with CWM you just downloaded and "Open" it.
Kernel flashes in just a few seconds.
You can now unplug data cable and start up the phone. You can give a quick run through the start up settings, language selection etc. before we root. (The only real reason I said to start up the phone is to make it easier to transfer the Superuser install zip to your sdcard from Windows.)
Now root:
Go to:
http://androidsu.com/superuser/
and download Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
from the Eclair/Froyo/Gingerbread/Honeycomb/IceCreamSandwich (2.1 – 4.0.3) section.
In the settings menu of your phone: Menu > Settings > Xperia > Connectivity > USB coonection mode: Choose Mass storage mode (MSC)
Connect the data cable.
When your sdcard appears as a drive in Windows, copy the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip file onto it.
Unplug data cable and power off your phone.
It's important to watch the notification LED for the next bit!
With phone off press the power button as normal when turning on.
Once the Sony logo appears, watch the LED.
When LED turns blue start pressing the Menu button. You have less than 3 seconds to do this!
This takes you into the Clockworkmod recovery.
Use volume up/down move up and down. To confirm use Home button.
Select "Install zip from sdcard" > "Choose zip from sdcard" >
Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip > Yes - Install Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Once the install completes you can go back and "reboot system now"
Your phone should now be rooted.
Good luck.

Yes, with a few small changes I believe this should sort you out. As you are using Arconium MiUi I take it that you have unlocked bootloader.
I used this method on my own Xarc to downgrade to GB after testing out some of the first ICS roms in April, so I know this works.
The FTF file you need will be LT15i 4.0.2.A.0.62 Generic Global World which is the latest official GB 2.3.4 from Sony. (Note, this particular version can only be rooted on an unlocked bootloader.)
IMPORTANT: Never downgrade arc to a version of GB older than 2.3.4, because you will get the 0% battery problem which can not be repaired. The safe FTF files are LT15i 4.0.2.A.0.42 or LT15i 4.0.2.A.0.62 which are both GB 2.3.4 .
The main change is when it comes to the Superuser/root and CWM steps.
I would do it in this sequence:
1. Flash the GB FTF
2. Boot up the Gingerbread and copy the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip to the sdcard from Windows. (You can of course also put Superuser on the sdcard at the start if you wish. I just like to see that the unrooted firmware is working okay before I make any changes to the system files.)
3. Instead of flashing a kernel to the phone, I use Flashtool to "hotboot" a kernel with CWM recovery.
4. I use CWM of "hotboot" kernel to install the Superuser/root the phone.
In greater detail:
1. Get LT15i 4.0.2.A.0.62 Generic Global World from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18997655&postcount=1
Flashing this FTF is same steps as for the ICS in previous post.
2. This part is straightforward, just get the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip on to the sdcard.
3. From http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18997655&postcount=1 scroll down to heading "[Tutorial]Root with recoveryLT15i". Download the file "Recovery.rar" from that section.
Extract the file recoveryARC.img from the RAR file.
Although the RAR also contains instructions for using commands to hotboot, I personally think the easiest way is to use Flashtool.
So we want to hotboot "recoveryARC.img" :
Start Flashtool.
With phone powered off, hold down Menu button and insert data cable.
Notification LED should turn blue.
Flashtool should now say: "Device connected in fastboot mode"
Click the button in Flashtool which looks like a lightning bolt (the button furthest to the left.) Tick "Fastboot mode" and click OK.
On left side "Select Kernel to Hotboot", find "recoveryARC.img" you just extracted and "Open" it.
Wait a minute while phone starts up. You do not need to press anything, it goes directly into Clockworkmod recovery.
Now you can proceed to root the phone from CWM.
4. The only difference is that in this version of CWM you must use power button to confirm your selections rather than Home button. Otherwise rooting GB from CWM is same steps as ICS in my previous post.
Disconnect data cable and reboot. Gingerbread should now be rooted.
Good luck!
Thanks a lot mate..It really worked. Now I am back on GB with Internal space problem solved.
Your detailed post really helped..Now I can go for any GB custom ROM..
Regards,
RxHy

Good luck!

You are welcome. I've learned a lot of info from these forums in a short time, so I'm happy to pass along any info to others when I can.
Can anyone reupload Recovery.rar and Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip since links do not work anymore?
Found it (in his ESP thread):
Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
LINK:http://www.2shared.com/complete/5jwUGSXh/Superuser-307-efghi-signed.html
Recovery.rar
LINK: http://ul.to/tz3hl0yu/Recovery.rar
See attachment for the recoveryArc.img, use fastboot boot recoveryARC.img to run it.
factory reset and roll back
Hi, i got an arc s recently and updated it to ICS. It lags a lot now and i wanna revert to GB. Can a factory reset get it back to GB or do i absolutely have to flash it in order to do so ?
Thanks.

http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/198483#198483 . A well-explained thread, and assuming you dont want/(haven't yet) to root your your phone(since u recently bought it),you can use this.Or else a better option would be rooting it and using a custom gb rom, since it gives you a much better experience.Use the search for rooting or other info.
Simple guide:
1.- Download flashtool. In the folder you install it you will find drivers folder. Run the program and install drivers for your device (if they aren''t installed yet)
2.- Download any 2.3.4 GB firmware, I would recommend you 4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware. 4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware for ARC S // 4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware for ARC. Introduce that firmware you downloaded in the folder firmwares (inside the flashtool directory)
3.- Turn down your phone. In flashtool, press the thunderbolt symbol, and press flashmode. Then, a list will appear. You must select the 4.0.A.0.62 fw you downloaded (and inserted in Flashtool/firmwares). When the PC is ready, will ask u to connect the phone in flashmode. Press back key and then connect the phone to the computer. A green light will appear in ur led. When finished, take the phone and reboot, you will have Gingerbread 2.3.4 in stead of ICS 4.0.4
Hope I helped u!
Sir, I am trying to flash my arc S for downrading to GB. I have the LT18i_62.ftf. Is this safe?
Also I am stuck in the "turn off your phone/hold back key" step....while holding the back key, says 'driver not installed even if i did already install drivers from driver-tools folder.
Thanks much.

It does sound like a safe file.
Install the drivers from Flashtool folder 'drivers' (by default C:\Flashtool\drivers).

Please don't create a new thread.. Search first and then read.. Read and read more..
The link provided for Xperia-S_Relock_bootloader.ftf is dead. If someone has the file and would be so kind as to mirror it it would be awesome. I would have posted on the original thread, but it's in the developer section and I am not allowed to post there. I have tried google search to find an alternative and I have come across one file with the same name, I flashed it with Flashtool and now my Xperia S won't boot, I can get into flashmode and fastboot but that's it.

Thank you very much. This worked. I didn't know flashing a stock .ftf firmware would re-lock my bootloader. It did I flashed LT26i_6.1.A.2.50_1257-5499_WORLD and after that was able to upgrade through PC-companion without any problems. Thank you for the help.

[Q] Sony Xperia ZL / root

I tried many times to root the phone, unfortunately i couldn't.
Special thanks to user destroyedbeauty, he adviced my ( in PM ) step by step how to do it, but still no success.I followed the steps very careful.
When i tried to root, i didn't check USB Debugging & Unknown Sources.
Should i ?
Is there a way to install apps which require root, on the phone with no root ?
Below are the steps i tried to root the phone, adviced by the mentioned user.
I rather recommend that you install an kernel with pre-configed root access (Doomkernel / Advanced Stock kernel / XzK-kernel) by using built-in Fastboot in Flashtool. By doing this method, do this!!!:
1) Download kernel ZIP from specific kernel thread in "Xperia Z (Original) Android Development" thread section. Take anyone of these below, I also link Advanced Stock Kernel if you want complete stock Sony kernel with added init.d / root / recovery add-on / built-in!;
a) Xz-Gaming v1.0
b) XzK-Kernel v11.0
c) Doomkernel v19
d) AdvancedStockkernel
OBS!! Choice latest kernel from list in each thread for getting latest kernel that is optimized and made for your installed FW. Otherwise, problems can occur..
2) Extract boot.img from downloaded ZIP and put boot-file in Flashtool > Firmwares. After this, copy the same zip to your phone external / internal-SD card. Leave it there and continue read..
3) Turn off your phone and hold volume up, then connect phone to USB-cable. Keep an eye on LED notify lamp, see if it blinking blue - then you're connected in fastboot mode between phone and PC!
4) Open up Flashtool and push on the "Bolt-Button". Select fastboot, then go to firmware subfolder in your Flashtool folder on HDD and select extracted boot.img. Read log in flashtool, read it carefully. If everything seems to be normal, disconnect your phone and boot it up.
5) Go into recovery mode by either hammering volume up / volume down button and then choice "Install ZIP" option. Search after your ZIP file in recovery that contains boot.img and wifi-specific modules (critical for getting working WIF / Bluetooth!!).
6) After completed flashing, wipe cache and Dalvik cache (Dalvik can be found under Advanced section in recovery).
7) Reboot and voilá! Enjoy your custom kernel!
I only tried with "AdvancedStockkernel"
After step 4, the display stays black, nothing happent, no boot, no Sony logo, nothing.
I want to mention one more think : when i unlocked the bootloader 2 days ago, i followed this link :
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
It was successful. On the next step I was asked to write my email / imei / etc !!! Everything went ok.
After that, i tried to root and something went wrong, so i flashed whole .67 FTF in flashmode, again. Now is stock
Is the bootloader still unlocked, after i flashed .67 ftf in flashmode ? Could that be the reason i can't root the phone ?
Should i try again to unlock the bootloader, before i start again to root ?
Please help me guys.
Thank you

Hi i'm the guy how have cyanogen on my T3 , I just wanted to warn you for the rom, select the FXP-cm12-20150412...
And not the FXP-cm12.1 ...
otherwise your phone will bootloop, and when you make the first start of the phone , don't worry if after the bootanimation there's a black screen just wait 2-3 minutes for the update
So enjoy Cyanogen Xperia Users

Cyanogen ROM are distributed in zip format, so you have to :
- push the zip file to your sdcard
- you need a kernel with recovery (for the time being, the Philz one)
- you enter in recovery mode
- you select "install zip" and the zip file.
once it's finished, install the right kernel
for that, on your PC, extract the boot.img file from the ROM zip file and flash it with flashtool or fastboot
reboot and enjoy

I don't install cyanogen like that,
First I update my phone with EMMA with the Open devices TA
-After I open the zip of the rom and i extract it somewhere you can find it
-take the zip AND THE GAPPS and connect your phone on usb for sending the zip on THE ROOT of your sdcard
-Enter in fastboot, and open flashtool (not emma the other)
-Flash the kernel called : boot.img
-Once Flashed reboot your phone in recovery (up button when the led is purple or violet)
-The led became gold color
- You now are (normaly) in cyanogen recovery
-Wipe data/Factory reset
-Wipe Cache for avoid bugs
-Now the fun part
-Apply update select the ROM and after the GAPPS
-Reboot and enjoy !
If the screen is black for a while after boot it's normal it's the system update
I also recommand you to take the
FXP-cm-12-20150412-UNOFFICIAL-seagull.zip
file because the other in cm12.1 are bootlooping
Now you can enjoy properly without camera and 3G/4G cyanogen
Sorry for my english I'm just a 14 french kid

I got bricked meanwhile. Battery problem I think, not the first time...
ok, i think there is a missunderstanding.
in order to flash the kernel, you need to be in fastboot mode (with the blue light). so, once you have installed the zip file, shut down the phone (in recovery mode, select "power options/power off" , disconnect the phone and reconnect it in fastboot (maintain the vol up before and during the USB connection ).
you can now use "flashtool" (the Androxyde's one. to avoid confusion, the Sony's one is called EMMA or if it is more easy for you fastboot.exe
to use fastboot, you open a command line (Windows+R + type "cmd") , you go to the folder where the boot.img is and you enter the comand "fastboot flash boot boot.img". after ~2s the kernel is flashed, you can disconnect the phone and restart.
the first time, the boot time is about 5 min with a black screen after the animated screen, so wait a moment.
it's for that it's very important to have a well charged phone (min 40%) because the first start use a lot of battery, and you can't see anything.
I want to restore, I just installed the zip. Why cant I enter recovery?
edit: ok, I entered cyanogen recovery. will try to boot now. but I dont have backup/restore option....
