2.3.5 coming soon? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So the gsii has gotten the update via kies. Hope ours comes soon too and also hope they fix that damn android os bug. What else would you like to see fixed or updated?

Not trying to be a downer here, but coming from the original Epic, we probably have at least a month to wait.

The OG Epic just got GB not too long ago. I had that on my OG EVO in like, what, April? March? thanks to CM...I have been doing aftermarket updates (lol, more like 'beforemarket') since I got into Android, so, I don't know if they even bother issuing minor point releases like this especially with ICS around the corner.
Why go to all the trouble of making the update and the hassles of dealing with carrier approval and stuff like that when they can skip that process and get right to work delaying ICS for 6 months.

All it adds Is overscroll glow and google wallet that we can't use anyways

The OG Evo got gingerbread in June, right before the release of the 3D.
As for the update. LOS fix, Android OS battery leak fix and just some optimization is my hope.
I want ICS, so I hope they're working on that next

Epic is a part of the galaxy S line....but has been treated poorly by sprint and samsung since realease (wasnt really ready for primetime when came out, features striped from phone before release, lengthy time between promised updates). But with all that said still one of the best I've had since G1.

Actually the Epic is one of the better of the US carrier Galaxy S phones. The Epic had the front facing camera working from day one, Verizon's just a few months ago. But as anyone will tell you, the US carriers screwed up the Froyo release and will probably do so with Gingerbread. Europe had Froyo on Galaxy S line at the end of November, US...March. So just because Samsung releases the code, don't hold your breath. Go and grab the ACS leaks. Fully functioning ROM coming soon.
Lol...yes it is.

[Q] Question: Ice Cream Sandwich And Evo (time frame question)

Someone already ported it for the Nexus S. So It may be faster than we think
I just want to lower everyone's expectations. SDK ports are pretty much useless. They are fun to play with to get to know (roughly) what to expect, but they are mostly non-functional. I say this having experienced an SDK based honeycomb port on the nook color (I even waited for maturation of that port a few months after the first release). It was horrible. If you are asking for a time frame as to when you will have a daily driver ICS port, I would say your answer is probably a month or so after Google releases the source code. If I remember correctly they usually release it about 3 months after the it goes public (I believe they are required to per the GPL). So you are probably looking at a 2/12 time frame.
How can your 2 year contract expire 2 months before the EVO came out???

I think it really depends on the phone you're trying to port the sdk on. If porting an sdk has as many different ways of doing it as rooting, Samsung phones would just wind up causing headaches for most. Rooting my wife's phone took me about a week of research and trial and error before I was finally successful. My EVO, on the other hand, was rooted, had flashed a custom recovery, and then finally a custom ROM, all done in about an hour-ish.
Back on topic, though, if anybody knows of anything ICS that is available for EVO, please link me to it so I can satisfy my craving for ice cream. Thanks in advance!

Well on 17 November, the galaxy nexus will be released in europe; the US date is still unconfirmed. So you can expect it to be in the mid november-december time frame.

This may be a stupid question, but with the release of the source code for ICS, why do you think it would take so long for it to get it pushed to the E4GT?

Well its been almost 2 months since the phone came out and we haven't got any updates that would fix the Los, and I read somewhere that cm9 will be out in about 2 months (some developer tweet it) so hopefully by march or 4 months from now, I'm no expert but that sounds very reasonable. I also read that the release was for the nexus, And that they are going to release the code for more devices in the future.

If you are asking about an "official" release from either Sprint or Samsung no one really knows what version we will get IF any for that matter right now. IIRC the original Epic 4g just had a "official" 2.3.7 rom leak out but its still a beta so we can only hope that in the end that's the build we will be getting from Sprint/Samsung.

Good news

ICS is close.

Don't get too excited, while our phones may have a Exynos CPU we also are the only ones with a CDMA and Wimax radio. That the biggest reason we don't have CM7 yet while all the other SGSII's do, at least in beta form. It may take some time to get the driver situation sorted so I wouldn't expect the E4GT to get ICS in beta form as soon as the others.

Kudos to Bubby on that but just cause he gets it doesnt mean it'll be supported by CM. If they try to merge it and it breaks the existing builds, thats a no go. Slayher worked forever on the tbolt and it never played nice, the build itself is awesome but it couldn't be synced to mainline properly...not even sure its supported yet (although i sold that a couple months ago).

Samsung made a comment last month regarding ICS on the Galaxy SII.
Official update from Samsung and carriers will be 2nd Qtr next year = April - June. Unfortunately this sounds about right. I recall the original EVO 4G didn't get official Gingerbread update until June, six months after it was out.
Plus Samsung said they want the Galaxy S3 out a little earlier, Spring next year. I bet we see Samsung's next gen Galaxy series release first before the SII gets official ICS update.
Sprint Galaxy S2 w/ Calk's 1.5a + ICS 1.6
EDIT: Nevermind.

Heads up .. 4.2 Update; one step closer

Honestly, I remember back in the Epic 4G days when Samsung had the reputation that they did not support their devices, but it appears they've changed their attitude and now they're releasing updates like mad, even more efficiently than HTC is (at least for CDMA-based devices.)
If this is true, then the Samsung devs in charge of CDMA development will start porting it over to our devices. Perhaps we'll see RDFs in the next few days?

I had an Epic as well and it seemed like Samfirmware was our only hope. I share your sentiments and look forward to any changes Samsung is willing to make with regards to device updates.
I'm from the OG Epic as well (from its release to the s3 release); It is really refreshing to see them pushing out the updates for this phone!!
I too am from the OG Epic. People continuously blamed Samsung for the slow updates for it when in reality rdfs were being generated and test releases sent to Sprint almost daily and within weeks of the international update. I think the less intrusive touchwiz allows for faster updating. So hopefully we will see some rdfs reported soon.

That's because this phone is available for all major carriers. The Epic was only for Sprint thus Samsung relied on Sprint to advertise who decided to push the Evo instead.
