Any news on root for 2.3.4? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

has anyone heard anything on root for the new OTA update? just curious, havnt seen any info mentioning anything. does alpharev have twitter or anything that they use to discuss current projects/status?

It is still very new, probably won't have root for this version for a few weeks. Of course, I could be wrong, I'm just taking a shot in the dark. For 2.3.3 it took a few months.
Just have some patience and it will be rootable before you know it.

Petes One Click?

Unfortunately the only way at this point to root 2.3.4 INC2's is using the XTC clip. I can't say for sure if they are even working on rooting 2.3.4 because who knows we may be upgraded to 3.0 and are waiting for that. but like I said the only thing I can say for sure is the XTC clip.

Going forward with ota s....get s off....wait for ruu from jcase or whoever or a rooted rom to upgrade
Taking the ota is pointless

Petes one click will not work. That is for motorolas

This isn't true. I just got my phone a few weeks ago and it came with 2.3.4
I followed the instructions here. This was my first smartphone/rooting experience. It went flawlessly. So if I can do it, you should be able to as well (assuming you are mildly tech oriented).
No clips needed, just need to downgrade hboot to .97
Good luck

[Q] How to Root your HTC EVO device to download the cool stuff

Well, Im sure someone has already started a thread of this topic somewhere, but I dont have the time to search every thread for it.. Please forgive me since I am a new user to this site. I have recently switched from AT&T using the Iphone 3Gs to Sprint's HTC Evo, and Im really interested in tweaking my device to be able to make it my own super phone(with a longer lasting battery life.. would be very helpful). Obviously, it is a bit more complicated to tweak an HTC device from a blackberry(easy). With the talk of Rooted and unrooted device is a totally different language for me.. So Im just looking for a nice soul out there that wouldnt mind teaching me and showing me the ropes to have my own personal super phone..
Use unrevoked to root easiest way out there. Then download a Tom and flash it. Simple...

Do not use unrevoked 3 if it is a new one.

if your hboot is .79, go for unrevoked. if it is 2.02, you have a challange. baisically if your software says 3.29 use unrevoked if it is 3.30 something than you are stuck. sorry. if you have 2.20, i would love a tester. pm me or email at [email protected]. when i say tester, dont worry i know what i am doing.
by the way, from now on i would definatelly scour the threads, google (evo xda [question]) and look in the dev section, before asking a much-asked question. most answers are there. i get that it is in greek pretty much, but it cant hurt (usually helps) to ask with a little knowledge.
once again, open for questions

I do suggest you become familiar with ADB, there are a lot of very useful things you can do with it. That being said, there is a program called Android Commander that installs on your computer and has a GUI which makes a lot of the ADB stuff much easier.

read through the other threads and posts before making another super awesome thread like this
jmaddox31,
1.) Your post doesn't belong here in the development section. It doesn't really belong anywhere on the site as it has no value.
2.) We're waiting for you to root the device and post procedures on how to do it. You aren't done yet? It only took 2 days for the Thunderbolt. You are pretty lazy for not having it rooted yet.
3.) We are not your trained monkeys and you are not paying anyone (I just checked my Paypal). So go back and quietly sit in the corner.
PS: Mr Clown, could you close & trash this thread, please?
this phone will most likely never be rooted... by software anyhow.. might have to return it for a tbolt.
Why wont it be rooted??

1) we had the thunderbolt for months before the release, we were familiar with it when it was released.
2) We perm rooted it on release day, s-off on day 2.
Thunderbolt was a similar situation, however because we were able to locate firmware vulnerable to scotty2's wpthis exploit, we we able to downgrade, then replace the bootloader.
We don't have this option on inc2, yet.
I have a inc2 eng hboot, and once a way to write it is found, we will have s-off root.

So that basically means a different exploit must be found then. One that exploits the code that is actually loaded.

So how far do you guys think we are away from stock GB root without the clip? I just got mine, and have a chance to get it refunded if I want to. It took so long to get here, I feel that S-OFF will be accomplished without it any day now. Opinions?

I'm debating what to do as well. I just got the phone yesterday, and I don't know if I should get the xtc clip or what. I upgraded early so Verizon wouldn't let me get a 4G phone for some reason.

No, not yet. Once you get the Ginerbread update you are out of luck and must wait for a new rootable exploit to be discovered. Both the AlphaRev team and the Unrevoked team as well as others are actively working on trying to find new exploits.
The other choice is to find someone that has a XTC Clip diagnostic device that can be used to gain S-OFF on your device which will then allow you to install a custom recovery and custom rooted ROMs.
There is a number of threads on this. There is no way, as of now, to downgrade. The only way to get root, if you have 2.3.3, is to buy an XTC clip.
Edit..... I type too slow

If you visit the Revolutionary site, there are a number of links to some of the developers that are working on GB root exploits. With a little investigation into Twitter land, you will see that they are working on several HTC devices. One of the exploits will work on the Desire S, so it is only a matter of time before they figure out how to make it work on the Incredible S/Dinc2, too.

That is only for those with S-OFF via AlpharevX to downgrade back to Froyo and the stock boot loader. You need to be S-OFF and, correct me if i'm wrong, will still be S-OFF after the downgrade. It will not work if you're S-ON with GB, unfortunately.
