Emulators randomly crashing - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Anybody else having a problem where Gameboid and GBCoid keep randomly going back to the select rom screen? The apps aren't force closing either and when it does happen it says in the notification bar "Gameboid is running" as if I just pressed the home button or something. Other emulators such as N64oid or SNESoid don't do this either. Idk its just really annoying because the emulation itself is fantastic. If it helps I'm running Starburst rom v1.3 and the kernel it comes with but I don't think that matters because it was happening before I was rooted. Anyways thanks in advance for any fixes and sorry for the long post.

Happens to me. It's definitely something with the device. Ever since I started running midNIGHT rom v2 I haven't had a crash. Although I only tried it about 10 minutes

Same with me. I'm on starburst rom and I can even play for 5 min without it crashing

Do you guys have any ideas on why this is happening or what we could do to fix it?

This also happens to me on stock. Kinda frustrating, but I have confidence it will be solved in the future.

That's strange. What ROM/kernel are you using? N64oid never crashes on me. (Except for certain roms, such as Zelda).

Stock rom and the latest zedomax kernel. It doesn't force close either.. Just ends the Rom and brings me back to the Rom selection screen.

this happens with just about any kind of game I play, not just emulators. any kind of tower defense game or plants vs zombies or anything that requires some sort of graphics. games like spades or dominoes or games with low graphical requirements seem to be fine. ive been rooted from day one and have always had a custom kernel and rom. my gf's e4gt was stock until about a week ago and her's did the same thing. you can play for 5 - 10 min then the games would just close. no FC, just close. battery temps rise as well when this happens. I wonder if its not a dodgy gpu or gpu driver?

Mine's the opposite. Runs fine on n64oid, Alchemy, Cut the Rope, and even Beats. But Gameboid and GBcoid both randomly crash (without prompting a FC.)

I believe I may have found the culprit, at least for me. I was having the same issue as many of you, SNESDroid would just go back to the main screen without a FC. Then while trying to play the same parts of the game all over again, I decided to fast-forward everything and I noticed for the longest time the game didn't crash on me. So I decided to try something out and disabled the sound in the settings menu. So far the game hasn't crashed on me. It's unfortunate that I don't get to hear anything though, but I'd rather play a quiet game that doesn't crash. Than hear some audio and have the game crash on me every 5 - 10 mins.

I will try this out when I can, but like others, why does it only do this with Gameboid and GBCoid and not the heavier emulators like N64oid?

Has anyone made any headway with this? I've tried a variety of tricks but Gameboid keeps crashing within 5 minutes of starting the game.

I've had the same problems with some emulators from the android market. They would crash within a mintue or two. So I uninstalled them and found NESoid and SNESoid. They last longer but they still crash with no FC message. I'm running Starburst v1.5 and Zedomax OC Kernel

From my short time on and off with ICS I am pretty sure there are multi touch issues.

Well alot of the games and whatnot apps have yet to be updated for ICS. So suspect issues to arise when using them.

Lag while playing my favorite game

Does anyone else play Home Run Battle 2? If so, do you notice any lag? Sometimes the game will play smooth but other times, it lags so bad that sometimes you can't even play it. Is anyone noticing lag in any other game or this game?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Dude yes! I notice it with temple run and it sux because this phone is powerful. I just hope its the app/game not being optimized yet
I feel your pain man with restaurant story all TW ROMs lag in these type of games even OC to 1.8ghz when I go to a CM9 or CM10 jellybean type ROM they work perfectly fine smooth and with my G2 games ran smooth as well not sure what's the deal here. I'm on AOKP based of CM10 and they work fine but I sure do miss TW.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I suppose this sounds like a software problem which sucks. If the games are running fine on different roms then it looks like the hardware is obviously powerful enough. I hope this issue gets fixed quickly.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I think it's app related. On my HTC One S playing temple run I would get lag and it would be bad enough for me to miss a jump, slide show and die. I get is far less on the gs3 but it's still a bit noticeable.

[Q] Major lag spike when playing a game and connected to wi-fi.

So basically I had this issue for awhile now, even on stock ROM and kernel. Now i'm using CM10 nightly with franco kernel. Whenever I play a game offline or out of reach pf Wi-Fi, the game runs perfectly fine. But when connected to Wi-Fi i'm getting huge frame drops (1-5 fps) every like 2-3 min. Maybe it has already been answered, but yes, I did search the forums, I searched pretty much everywhere. Anyone had similar issues?
What about 3g/4g?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I do,and I still did not got a workaround with this...but I don't have this issue only when connected to wifi, just every time i do something(play a game, scrolling, switching homescreens) the only workaround is using faux kernel wich is pretty good(in my case)
Maybe an app like facebook

Have you tried with a different game?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
It does it with mostly 3D games, but it does it as well for a few 2D games like Drag Racing. I noticed that turning off auto-sync got rid of the lag for about 10 minutes. But then the framedrops would happen again.

Seems as though you have something running in the background.
You could try, is catch what is going on via logs (ddms may be helpful here since it has a built in log, but you can get them via adb as well) or adb shell commands, adb shell top for example. Trying and see what is going on when the lag spikes hit.
Alternatively, you can disable/uninstall apps that could possibly be the offenders. Facebook apps, twitter apps, messaging, email...perhaps even widgets. Then try and game until you figure out what the offender was.
This is assuming it is another app at fault.
Alright thanks for the advice! Won't be able to try it right now as I'm going on a vacation but as soon as I can I'll do it and report back.

[Q] Fun Run Multiplayer Race on GalaxyMod Universal

I really enjoy playing this game, but for some odd reason every time I try to play it on this ROM, it just force closes or gives me a black screen. I tried this game on other ROM and it worked perfectly. I just love the GalaxyMod ROM because of it features and would like to get Fun Run working of this ROM. Is anyone else having this problem?
Yes its a known problem which is why I left that ROM actually lol

[ROOTED]~[AOKP] Game Emulators Not Working

Recently just got myself into flashing custom ROM's for my GS3. Been hooked on the latest from AOKP (as its the only one I've really dealt with so far.
Previously I used Gaming Emulators such as My Boy! GBA and N64oid getting my ROM's for them from CoolROM.com. Now for some reason they are a lot more glitch and half my games won't even play.
Is this repairable, or am I just going to have to try several different ROM's to see which one will operate like it should?

Those worked before you got into custom ROMs?
I use N64oid myself and never had issues.
Also, some emulator ROMs aren't very good. There's not much we can do about that.
P.S.: I don't think game Emulators are supported here.
They worked perfectly fine before, both emulators and all the ROM's for them. Now half of them won't load and others take nearly 3 or 4 minutes to boot.

That could be coming from your settings. Did you UV? Change to a more conservative governor/scheduler?
Nope, just fresh flash into new ROM. Flashed several times already with the same result. I'm willing to bet that if I went back to stock Rooted ROM It would be fine. Is it even possible that it's just the AOKP ROM?

You can always try another ROM and/or kernel. But like I said, I'm on AOKP myself (Task's) and use N64oid without any problem.
I'd suggest playing with your kernel settings, governor and scheduler and do some more testing before moving though.
Still not familiar with the kernel settings just yet. I'll have to do some homework I suppose. If anyone has even had the same issue please feel free to let me know. Hopefully I'm not the only one.

Im using Task's AOKP with his kernel and i use those emulators with no issues. Have you updated the emulators to latest version?
Yes, I've even tried older/newer versions of the same emulators, and different emulators entirely..
Just throwing this out there but "My Boy!- GBA" Seems to work, but very poorly. Can't use quick save feature or the game crashes and the screen goes crazy. (ex. In attachment)

I'm not sure what could be the issue. I used N64oid last night (playing Super Mario 64) and was running smooth.
I'd try redownloading the game itself and perhaps test them on something else (like your PC) to see if they work fine there.
Okay, so here's an almost annoyingly simple solution. When I tried to boot up the 64 games, the screen would remain black. A handful of them would eventually start up after 3 or 4 minutes of waiting. I just tried 3 of them, fresh DL from CoolROM.com, Harvest Moon, Super Mario 64, and Super Smash Bros. Same deal with all those. Same black screen, but if I just hit menu > reset... Mint!
They start up smoothly. Still some glitches going on with the whole save/load states. Icons don't appear for the save/load files, but they still seem to function normally. Strange.

Did you try clearing the app's data/cache?
Also, make sure the ROMs are on your internal.
