[Update - new beta out 25/10/11] PowerAMP NEW beta - amazing update! - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

[Update 25/10/11]:
Beta 2&3 out - changelogs and download links here
Quick heads up about this update.
FINALLY my SGSII can read genre tags properly (previously EVERY player took its tag reading from the systems way of reading tags, resulting in genre tags being messed up which really bugs me as I predominantly like to listen by shuffling a genre! FLAC tags also now work properly).
More details and download links 9no warez) here: AndroidNZ: PowerAMP 2.0 Beta Quietly Released

tis should be a great update

Just downloaded it, really smooth and looks great. (had to reboot before it worked).
Going to do some more testing while driving home later. i saw that the lockscreen changed a bit.. looks quite good now.

I *LOVE* it.
Thanks

My Beta version of power AMP has expired as it comes with a limited period of time ,
anyway by which i can make it full version , obviously without spending the bucks

Dude its so easy to make your expired version not expired .... like all you have to do is go buy the software from the market ... I know man its such an exploit. You just go give the developer money for investing hundreds if not thousands of hours in writing an amazing piece of software and then supporting it. Tell everyone you know about this "hack"

Been out a while. Still needs a few improvements tbh!

Yeah, when I found out I was extremely surprised to see it had escaped my notice for so long.
What improvements were you thinking of? There are a few things I can think of, but this feels remarkably 'finished' for a beta.

Updated first post with video.

I wish he would have implemented the alphabetized letters at the scroll bar, so we can select the letter of the artist instead of scrolling to it.
I definitely like the black neon theme, it looks so good now, I wasn't a huge fan of the bright neon blue fonts. This looks amazing with the black background.
Edit: After listening to the beta with my custom in ear monitors, I think I can agree that the sound has improved, not as drastic as upgrading to 2.3.5, but I think the music has more clarity and separation.
Good stuff!

Agreed on the alphabetising, strange omission that one - there is Search now though which helps compensate somewhat.

PowerAmp since the beginning. Jeez it's such a nice player!

Oh really? I must have missed out on the search function, will check.
I was really used to using my blackberry for music, where I can press the first letter of the name of artist I want on the physical keyboard, I don't even have to scroll.

i have the full version of the paid for app... how do i get the beta and will it be a trial period?

Do as Nztech says, download the .apk, and find it under your files, click and install it.

Just had a comment on the video that enabling DVC gave one person seriously reduced volume - anyone else able to reproduce this? I can't, volume decreases momentarily and then increases to at least the same volume as without DVC (maybe louder, no headset on me to test right now).

Ah finally PowerAMP looks nice. Thanks for the info

it is beautiful and so slim considering what is under the hood! been trying that dual speakerphone system and it works well. tried using in noisy environment and it auto fades out surrounding noise so you can hear what other person is saying! still cant stop the wind blowing into speakers though!
interesting to see what battery life will be on this thing as that could be its achiles heel! added coreplayer via cab and it works well. videos look stunning! the tilt screen is much stiffer so it don't flop about like on my old kaiser/tilt. used to think the screen on my kaiser would fall off at anytime! it would be nice if people posted the their initial feelings of the device wen 1st received and thoughts after a few days of use. i will be!
thanks all

yeah i know that but cheers for pointing out. getting its ass kicked today to see how it holds up after 1st charging cycle. gave it overnight charge - 12hrs. really hope battery holds up as this could be the only thing that could be its undoing. however saying that, when all the cooks start building rhodium roms etc i am sure there will be things in place to aid battery life!
few other things
no spare stylus. searched whole box and nothing.................
slide out mechanism is a bit stiff for my liking but like the sturdier feel to tilt screen. not sure bout purple background and do like the t-mobile look. that will be my 1st enhancement changing clocks and penguin to t-mobile rhodium look! will post screenshots of how it looks once done! very quick scrolling and smooth accross tabs. mem usage 50% as standard. music playback is more than suitable and in my opinion quite good! FINGERPRINT magnet my god! ugh hate that but will have to live with it! screen protector in box but i can never apply without getting bubbles underneath! big fingers/hands. i find tilt suitable enough for watching vids from my desk or table at home! can't wait to see WM6.5 on this machine
edit: still have the issue where i have to untick proxy in connections to get certain web apps working on t-mobile. for example messenger! not a big prob and doesn't slow down connection speed!

Always in the NYC Microsoft press event, with the Samsung protoype...
At the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival (Microsoft Advertising)... WP7 in october!

Awesome. And a much better recording than the presentations at MIX.
It's much more clear the phone don't lag, and how smooth using the interface actually is, when watching this video.
Not to sure I prefer Pink over Blue, but hey! always good with possibilities.
Now that is pretty awesome!

Yup. GMail, yahoo, and windows live are all specifically listed. It has a auto-config feature that may work with some others. But it also supports any pop3, imap, or Outlook ActiveSync service (which GMail and now Windows Live supports).

First post updated with new video from Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.
The vocal search seems pretty cool
Great to see the pink accent colour - while it wouldn't be my choice, that means they've added a few more since the leaked and unlocked ROM.
GMail support showed up in the leaked rom already, if you clicked 'set up email account' you could choose it from a list.

Massive drawbacks with this phone

Ghost volume button issue on most devices
No micro sd card support
Confusing user interface
No Facebook contacts sync
No native social network widget
Can't add more home screens
Fuzzy speaker
Lock screen vibration can't be switched off
No digital clock only analog widget
Quadrant benchmark only 1500 score
Lag in many areas
No Facebook events calendar sync
Only 5m camera
NO SWYPE
THE VOLUME BUG HAS REALLY PUT ME OFF AND SAMSUNG ARE STILL TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE,
Then don't buy it. Or if you have it, return it. Or ship it to me, I'll take it.

There's nothing wrong with expecting things to work. The problem is that most of the things you are expecting are things that you should have known about or things that never existed or were expected to be implemented.
Seems like OP is one of those average Android users who have not seen what stock Android is.
That's the problem with Manufacturer skins and casual users, take away Touch Wiz or HTC Sense and they're confused as hell.

You sound like a facebook addicted teenager. You realized that you bought a device that will set the standard for FUTURE software development right? If you want to be at the forefront of android OS, you have to let app developers to catch up. What, do you think facebook knows what will happen with ICS? If you can't live without those apps, go back to a gingerbread device, there are many choices!
I find it funny that you listed low quadrant score as an issue. You should really research about a phone before you buy it, this will inform you about the hardware limitations such as no sd card support or 5 mp camera before you take the plunge of purchasing the device.

No micro sd card support - this will always be an issue. The first 2 didn't have it, why would you think the 3rd one will. Galaxy Nexus has always been a developer phone so its treated differently.
Confusing user interface - From what everyone is saying, they are loving the new interface. It's refreshing and when you get used to it, its hard for people to go back
No Facebook contacts sync
Nexus S 4G had this issue. This isn't a issue with facebook not following a certain protocol that Google requested. and they took it off the Nexus phones. Or they just don't like them because they have their version of a social network
No native social network widget
They do its called google plus. Everything isn't native but 3rd party sources
Can't add more home screens
As much as I have to kinda agree with you in this because its nice to have 7 or more screens, its a dev phone so you knew this was happening long before ICS was announced
Fuzzy speaker
that sucks, but from reviewers they say its quieter but clear
Lock screen vibration can't be switched off
No digital clock only analog widget
Just get another widget that looks better anyways. They never truly had a digital clock worth adding on your home page anyways.
Quadrant benchmark only 1500 score
There have been cases that proven that the GN has scored better on web tests and other tests. Quadrant can be faulty. You are using a gingerbread program on a completely different OS. A bigger jump than eclair to gingerbread. I would compare the Razr scores as the initial breakdown (OMAP4430 vs OMAP4460 in the GN) and use that as your base comparing since Razr runs on Gingerbread
Lag in many areas
No Facebook events calendar sync
Only 5m camera Megapixels shouldn't matter. and Someone has done a camera comparison. The GN is not far off and infact has better low light capabilities than the S2. Once again this is a the same story over again, you knew this going from Nexus S that the camera won't be the best class, the same holds true here.
NO SWYPE - Swype will eventually be available through apk once it is compatible. Google isn't going to put swype on their phones. It's a 3rd party software and its up to other manufacturers to decide if they want it on their android device
THE VOLUME BUG HAS REALLY PUT ME OFF AND SAMSUNG ARE STILL TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE, I feel ya about the volume bug. But thats what it is a bug. This is common for alot of new products, just like never buying the first year of a new model car. But alot of reviewers from publication have not seen this volume bug so it could be something else entirely and should be fixed soon.

I put my thoughts above.
The volume bug is the only one that is severe. I don't mean to be rude, but the rest is just plain ... ignorant.
Quadrant is an accurate benchmark? It is appalling unreliable.
Megapixels is a measure of camera quality?
I'd return in your position.

I had the same problem when the Tablet version went live to Tapatalk HD. I still had the older beta version from right before it went live. My work around for that was to Fire up the app, let it prompt me to buy the new version and then I just hit back. The prompt closed out and I was able to use the version like normal.
I missed the initial sale of .99 when it came out of beta and the price skyrocketed to $3.99 or something like that. It never came down again. Not sure if anyone can use this work around or not, but I would suggest just ponying up the .99 for the new app. It is a pretty big upgrade in style and performance, so I doubt we'll have to do this all over again for a few years. TTv2 hadn't changed its overall look and functionality ever I think.
I have this new version, uninstalled my previous Tapatalk HD version on my tablet, I still use the TTv2 as well.

Good luck with that. The old Rootzwiki app was a skinned Tapatalk and every time they (RW) upgraded the app, they asked for you to buy it again. Pissed a bunch of people off to the point, I am not sure it is even for sale any longer. Might be, but I don't care since I don't have to use it bc of the current and v2 versions of Tapatalk. Plus RW has been sold twice since those dark times. :silly:
And its also only fair to consider thatthis isn't an updated Tapatalk 2. As I understand it, its a completely rebuilt version. With the ammount of work that goes into it, I have no issue parting ways with another dollar.
Betas shouldn't be expected to work once the final release is out. Betas are for testing and working out the kinks before the actual release. They couldve kept it internal and not let you play for free at all! Plus it'd be a much longer wait! If you were the developer, would you want to let the beta version continue to work when this is how you make part of your living?
They couldve done things much differently if they were just out to screw people. No offense if you disagree with me, but if a dollar is too much to ask, stay with Tapatalk 2.

Sorry, realized that may have come out a little harsh! Not intended! Just trying to consider the amount of work that gets put in and that I don't think anyone should be expected to work for free! Besides, I think woody is right, this'll get us for the next few years I'm sure.

By all means I completely agree. I still have Tapatalk 2 from Amazon for free. And I'm buying Tapatalk 4 tonight. But I could understand the slight anger of having paid 4.00$ supporting an app and developer you love and getting pooped on the next week by a special.
And for anyone who is super frugal, just TiB Tapatalk 4 Beta and reinstall it because it's no longer on the market. Though I'd frown upon this personally. The beta still allowed me to connect to XDA yesterday evening however.

@DocHoliday77
Understand your thoughts on beta testing. Disagree with them. Don't like the way this new rollout (if you will) happened. For more than 24 hours with the last beta (I did not know a new version was released), it simply would not connect to XDA, but would connect to my other forum accounts. Only one time did it prompt me to update, and it was about the 120th time I tried to log in. In this case, there is no reason to keep a beta internal. Letting consumers shoulder the testing work saves them months of time, and we get an update faster. They turn out the product faster and with far fewer issues than if they do internal testing.
The $0.99 price point is excellent (while it lasts). I use the app every day, and as such, have no problem paying for it (once). My problem with the new update is this: v2 and v4 have the exact same purpose, and let's be honest, the same functionality. It is the same app. With a new holo GUI. That's the problem. I'm inclined to believe v2 will either no longer be updated, or updated much less frequently. Why bother updating the old code? It's working fine.
What it boils down to is I don't want to pay for the same app twice. I would hate to see this practice become commonplace, like DLC has for consoles/PC gaming. Paid updates is a slippery slope.
@Aerowinder
I can totally see where you are coming from. And my statement about keeping beta testing internal was simply just to point out they do have an option. I agree its not the best option, but it is one. I completely agree with you about the benefit of public betas, as I had stated before as well. But I did not realize they would just shut down any part of it without some sort of notice. While I dont expect a beta release to continue functioning after the final release, I would expect a little bit of a grace period before just shutting it down like that! And without notice too. I would agree that this is not good practice.
I realize that the purpose of V2 and V4 are the same, and they offer very similar functionality, but I was under the impression that V4 was a complete rewrite and does add to the features and functionality of V2. Exactly what the differences are, I cannot remember off the top of my head, but I do recall reading about some of them when the beta was first released a month or so ago. But even if the biggest difference is better stability for now and in the near future, I think its worth paying for the new version. Updates can only take an app so far before it needs a major overhaul. And often, starting from the ground up is the best approach when you want to provide a quality product.
Also, try to consider it from a business standpoint. I think it is reasonable to assume that the majority of people who are going to use the app, have long since purchased it. Meaning most new updates and work involved are done with diminishing returns. After a while it begins to cost a lot more to keep it up to date than they receive in sales revenue. If a business continues with that kind of path, pretty soon you will get no updates and the app will simply just die. I do think that it would've been good if they allowed current users to possibly upgrade at a lower cost, but then, I kind of think that is what the .99 sale does anyway. If not for the sale, I would be in more agreement with your position on purchasing the new update. $4-5 is kind of pushing it to begin with, and if you paid full price for the previous one I can certainly understand the resistance there.
All in all, I do get your position on not wanting to purchase the same app twice, I think everyone has been in similar situations where they would be unhappy about a purchase. But I think it has more to do with perception, at least in certain cases. If you look at it a certain way, you might get downright angry about what a developer does, but if you look at it from a different angle, it could have quite the opposite affect.
I remember maybe a year or so ago, there was a weather app that was gaining some popularity, but then the developer decided to create a new app based on the original, but with everything his customers had been requesting. They now had to buy the new one. But to make it worse, he completely took the original down, so no one could even re-download it anymore. After a lot of complaints and gripes, he then proceeded to piss everyone off even more still by re-releasing the original, but as a "Classic" version for which people had to buy a second time if they preferred it over the new one! Needless to say his popularity seemed to die down quite a bit after that.
I know that is OT but thought I would throw it out there as a comparison for a really horrible "upgrade path" chosen by a developer.
In ending, I agree with you that paid updates can be a slippery slope, but in some circumstances, it may be unavoidable if the developer wants to continue providing his products to people. At least it isn't one of those where you have to purchase features by IAP's! Or worse yet, having to spend $50-100 to get enough coins or gems to get the one really cool in-game item!
I must say, though I usually completely agree with what you say, I do tend to enjoy disagreeing with you bro! You always have excellent points to debate against! And you never try to prove an impossible point, just because you really want it to be true! :good:

Complete rewrites are often necessary, especially for an amateur developer. You learn more over time, change your mind, and receive input from others that changes your mind. I rewrote an app I made over the course of a few years three times, each time a total overhaul and in a new language. Hundreds of hours, but I'm an amateur. Loved every minute of it, though! That's one reason why I don't do it any more, just takes too much time if you aren't charging for the product.
Also, try to consider it from a business standpoint. I think it is reasonable to assume that the majority of people who are going to use the app, have long since purchased it. This would be undoubtedly true if the smartphone market was stagnant. But there are millions of new Android device activations everyday. ICS and JB, so that's v4. This supports my argument that v2 will slowly become obsolete and no longer receive updates due to the aforementioned cost/time ratio. Also, what happens when someone who wants Tapatalk buys v2 because it's the first listing on the market? Then later find out they could have had a far superior version for the same cost? I suspect these people will not be accommodated. And we both know that some people just don't read.
My suggestion would be to make v2 free but with ads, charge for v4 (free upgrade from v2 paid). This avoids people buying the wrong version. It avoids people having to buy the app twice. And it allows people to try an older version to see if they like it before they spend $5 on it (aka a demo). It could even have some features removed to encourage people to buy the paid v4. Google's 15 minute refund period is a joke at best. It takes 15 minutes to get this app set up. It's useless. Anyhow, you can really only charge people for the same idea for so long before they get wise (hoping this happens with Call of Duty sometime soon...). They need to make a new app that people want. They need something innovative. Something unmatched. Tapatalk is no longer that. It's possible that from a business standpoint, this had to be done for the company to stay afloat. But I would argue that if this is the case, it's a sinking ship anyhow. And throwing more money at them isn't going to fix anything.

I do this with some F2Ps on PC; APB (still a great game to this day) and League. Not doing that with an app on my phone, it's just not going to happen.

Took advantage of the sale but I have problems connecting to the xda forums. It states to contact the administrator if problem persists. Anyone else have this problem when first buying the app?

Does Android Auto work for you?

I've heard Android Auto usually doesn't work on Huawei phones and unfortunately its one of the few things I do need working on my phone. (Not just the App running, but more that is connects to my car successfully)
I'm in the US and will want to make sure Android Auto is functional before I pull the trigger. It looks like it has good LTE band support for AT&T so that i usually the other concern but I'm sure that is going to work fine.
If any of you US folks can confirm Android Auto is working I would really appreciate it, Thanks!
Would be very interested to know this too.
If no one chimes in, I'll be happy to tell you next week when I receive mine, I'll connect to my Maxima SR and test it.

Does it connect to the car right away when you first plug in the cable?
I have a Xiaomi Mi Max 3 now and the connection to the car sometimes takes like 5 -10 minutes..

And your on the Chinese version?, so you had to manually install all the Play Services?
I think i would just end up going with the Global version, so I think that's already all baked in.

There is a ton of misinformation floating around. Chinese version comes with services baked in. All its missing is google play store and certain google apps like gmail, android auto, hangouts, calender, and others. Its like you installed pico gapps for a rom. Just the basics included. But services and calendar sync and such were already baked in.

If the price is the same and such I'd just grab the global. If its not that's up to you then whether you can stand the differences. I got mine the day of release from a lady who I know that came back from Shanghai that day. She grabbed my phone on the way to the airport for me from a Huawei Shop in Shanghai so I paid release day price of $880 w the case. For me that was worth it given the vendors are charging more on top of that. So I "deal" with the china problems. Notification are delayed but I found a setting that lets you tell it to not kill the background work so as long as I don't accidentally close it myself my apps that are important run in the back ground. You "can't change the launcher". You'll have people say BUT YOU CAN JUST USE GESTURES! but that isn't changing the launcher to me. They will be releasing a fix for that but I believe that affects global and china. Biggest thing for me past that is the notification stuff which I believe I've fixed as so far it's responsive.

I've had a few Xiaomi and Huawei phones in the past so I am fairly familiar with the hoops you have to jump through to disable the weird task killer stuff and get notifications working. But yes, I'd certainly want notifications from apps other than the build in ones to be pretty real time. So I think I'm ok with that.
Can't change the launcher? they block installing of any third party launcher? While not a deal breaker, I am certainly accustomed to using Nova launcher. But if It's being fixed I guess that's ok too.
The only other major issue for me I've had on the Mi Max 3 is Video Chat apps. I use Line and Skype and the other person cannot hear me consistently. Audio keeps dropping in volume and breaks up, makes video chatting unusable. I am able to get around it by using WhatsApp (No idea why that works and the others don't)
Have you done any video chatting on the phone by chance?
How are you making out with the LTE bands in the US? It seems like the band list for this phone covers most of AT&T...
Thank you for all the help.

You can install them and run them you simply can't make them default. I've not done video chatting but honestly I don't like to do it but I'll say if the other cameras are anything to look up to your going to be 100% fine. I get full 4g lte its just missing band 30 but my phone seems to sit on band 2 all the time.

So I don't have netflix as I use plex and such. Youtube lets me watch videos at 1080p60fps and I've actually tried doing 4k ones and it does seem to handle them well. Though you need to be closer to an AP since the transfer is a lot of data. I assume though you mean some paid youtube service or like amazon video which appears to stay low quality. The global is level 1 and china is level 3 for the drm security crap.
