Bugs w/ phone - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I was wanting to start a thread where people post their bugs. I really want this phone but I know that Sammy has a way of firing out phones it seems untested. I don't want this to turn into a ***** fest or an arugment thread. Just listing issues to help others if they want to get this phone
Another thread pointed out "grain" with apps because the screen is to big are others having this same issue or is that person just seeing things.
Also my friend got the Epic Touch4g and they are having battery issues because the "Android OS" is beating up the battery along w/ the display. The display is supposed to but the "Android OS' isn't. Can some one confirm that Hercules "android os" is undercontrol in the battery use option.

Whats going on with peoples Evo???

Wondering what's going on with peoples Evo lately... Mine stopped working for 3 hours then came back on.... I went to sleep this morning and left it on the USB charger...Woke up and noticed that my supersonic was off and went through the normal routine of trying to get it back on..(battery pull, tried booting into recovery, pulled SD card, tried different charger) all to no avail.... Get to the store and the tech tells me my battery is deformed (even told me to feel the buldge, which I did not feel). Their solution was for me to by a new battery...they wouldn't replace and im covered with the TEP....just as I was about to purchase the extended battery cause they didnt have the stock battery, I push the power button and my phone boots... Walked out the store baffled but the phone has been working ever since...
I been reading similar stories and my simple question is what the hell is going on...

Probably something with the kernel, that seems to be the common denominator so far.
Almost all of us hack our phones in some way: rooting, flashing roms, flashing kernels, adding programs (like hulu, wireless tether), etc etc. Since our battery life sucks anyway, many of us charge our phones multiple times per day. Li-Ion batteries aren't exactly known for their stability. If you Google it, you'll find that they've been acting funny and blowing up for nearly a decade (the oldest news story I could find dated back to 2002).
Since we run our phones really hard, sometimes the battery bugs out for a little while, or dies completely. It was recently blamed on SBC kernels, but we're talking a very small percentage of users experiencing problems. However, it's the nature of the beast that sometimes the phone just has a mild heart attack and comas out for a bit. I would still replace the battery or at least take it easy on flashing things for a little while.
As our phone grows older, we have more and more options on what to do with it...and that's just super but over-flash too much and one line of code doesn't make it and boom, your phone doesn't turn on for 3 hours. Software is a fickle *****, so have fun but be cautious. Always check your logcats and battery monitors.
Thanks for this very logical explanation... Ordered new battery just in case....and will take heed to your recommendations..

Just saw you said your battery was deformed... yeah, that's why you don't use kernels with sbc. It's pretty stupid to honestly.
Check out a video on youtube of what they can do when overcharged.
And definitely get rid of that battery. That's not something you want to be using.

maybe you should enlighten him that batteries aren't perfect nor are they any where near invincible, they come and go, just like cars, just like power supplies, just like anything. Relax with the NAZI, "SBC OMGGGGGGGG" that's all, it's every thread and it's all opinionated. And no, I'm not going to argue with 4.2 charge full dangerous 4.3 read this site, then dip your oreo while doing a kickflip, no, just relax with the opinions that's all...

Dracula?? (com.lge.dracula)

So hunting through the bloat I chance upon this interesting kibble. Using nobloat I disabled it and thusfar no issues...But doesn't anyone know what the heck it is?
Google wasn't much help in that regard.
Maybe it is the dreaded "Battery Sucker" we are all searching to disable/stake through the heart/flame to hell, cut it's scrawny head off???
that's weird, i just checked and mine has com.lge.wolfman

Imagine it is the reason why the battery life is so horrible. And if so, why is it there to begin with? hehe
makes us actually wonder that question with serious thought, just WHY is it there and named so? i can actually say i saw battery life decrease when i enabled it. i could leave my phone unused in my holster all day and see little dropoff, but when i re-enabled com.lge.dracula i actually lost 3/4 of my battery power by mid-day!! coincidence?? maybe....LTE affiliation? possibly.... "battery sucker"?? certainly.

Can someone run it with the others over at Skyrocket's forum n see if it's also available on their phone. If it is, then it might be LTE related.
Repherb, when u disable it, did u check to see if your LTE will work or not?
i froze dracula through Titanium backup , currently connected to LTE, no problems here, restarted to make sure. it is still frozen and LTE connected.
LG Optimute LTE. P930.
Who can we inquire to here in XDA to research on this random file? Can someone from XDA investigate with LG to find out the purpose behind this file?
Also, is there any possibility of some screenshots to show the difference freezing Dracula does to the battery life? This way we can prove that this file (or Wolfman) does suck the life out of the battery and is the reason behind the horrible battery life.
Froze it, no discernible difference in battery life imo.
Ran a video playback test, the extrapolated playback time at 40% brightness in airplane mode is about 5 hours 20 mins. The same test on my SGS2 got slightly over 8 hours.
LTE works fine when disabled, i am going to dive into the OS to see what calls this. btw: after rooting with DoomLord v3 zergrush, i am getting a serious amount of FC with nothing disabled using GO launcher. anyone else having this? just a [Q]... not trying to cross post...
**************UPDATE******************
after running top, i found that "lg_fota" (OTA updates) calls the Dracula process. hope this sheds some light on this elusive process.
I hate to reopen a two year old thread, but since Dracula is actually undead, I just have to ask: has anyone figured out what com.lge.dracula is, and if it's safe to chuck it?

Battery Drain Solved

Hope this works for others - I've read the other posts but didn't see this posted as a solution, if so, pardon the miss...
I've been using Android since Cupcake (and on the iPhone since the iPhone 3) and am very well versed in the Android "features" which are in general battery draining.
I've owned both the Nexus and the Nexus S.
After buying the GNX I turned it off, came straight home and charged to full before using it. The first thing I did after turning it on was to clear the cache, force close, and disable the Verizon bloatware, including news and weather.
I had all sync options / apps off, 2 Gmail accounts on, and I broke out in a cold sweat every time I turned the screen on, knowing it was going to kill my battery if I dare use the device for its intended purpose, social streaming, news feed reading, games, Netflix, etc.
Like most I was suffering from an abnormal wake time and "Android OS" was consistently the top battery drain in the Battery Panel within Settings.
700 bucks for a phone that I'm afraid to use (without a 50 foot extension cord nearby) doesn't make a whole lot of sense, given I can use all of the above listed features on my iPhone 4 without thinking twice about my battery.
I went back to the Verizon store where I purchased the phone, showed some screen grabs of the battery life I was getting, and asked for a new device, which was met with resistance - from my perspective it was pretty simple, either exchange the device or I'm gonna return it...
With the new phone I decided to try something different. I still shut it off after the purchase was complete, charged to full before using it, disabled the bloatware etc., but I decided to not accept the OS update.
After using the phone without accepting the update I noticed a marked improvement - the first item listed in the Battery Panel within Settings is either "Phone Idle" or "Screen", depending on usage, and "Android OS" is consistently the 4th item in the list, currently using 16% of my resources, with 14 hrs, 24 min of use and 64% remaining on my battery, and a very acceptable wake time.
I should also add that with both phones I had the "Don't keep activities" check box selected within Settings / Developer Options
Now the only real problem I have is the annoying pop up asking me to install the update with every active screen session, sometimes a few times within each session.
So for now, I'm going to hold off on accepting the update, hope I don't accidentally accept, and wait until I hear how well the next OS update is before accepting it.
Tldr: I wiped/reset the phone but didn't update to 4.0.2. Now Android OS does not keep the phone awake.
Easy way to save battery: Put the phone down everyonce in a while. I get a good 7-10hrs out of it everyday.
Sooooo you turned off multitasking, and denied an update. To all the new users I highly suggest you don't do this. Those are developer settings to test apps and killing multitasking is not gonna be beneficial.

Yep, that's all I did, I denied the update and there's a night and day difference between how this phone behaves on 4.0.1 vs. the one I had on 4.0.2
I remember the good ol' days, when folks would come to XDA to offer and receive help from each other...
Funny how people think everything was the fix. You got an entirely new device...don't you think just maybe it could had been that, not the update?
This just in setting my wallpaper to the beach boys fixed it for me
( actually I have never had a wake lock issue... not on 4.0.1 4.0.2 or 4.0.3)

yeah... so much so that I'm not taking any updates until 4.0.3, and only after folks have had a chance to test it out and see how it performs.
Glad the beach boys fixed your issues, sure it wasn't your Justin Bieber ringtones?
This thread is misleading.
I have 4.0.1 and I have that high Android OS Keep awake time issue.
Again, that issue is not about battery life, but the keep awake of Android OS which is unusual.

I just disabled google+ and vzw backup. Phone is doing far better on battery.
I also run a flat black bg, but i do the with everything.
ProTip - flash android 1.5 cupcake to your nexus for week long battery life.

[Q] Phantom Charging Issue Developement

Not sure if this should be in Q&A or Android Dev, but here it is (sorry if there is a thread on this already, the forum search doesn't appear to be working atm)
I work in a Sprint Service Center, and I have seen a lot of Samsung phones (primarily the Epic 4G Touch, Replenish, and Conquer) that have the issue where the phone shows it is charging when it is not plugged in, even if it is turned off. The red charging light will be on and the charging animation will be there, but obviously it doesn't charge.
I have explored several fixes for this but haven't found anything that actually fixes it yet.
I have tried resoldering and replacing the charging port, I have hard reset the phone, and it seems it doesn't matter if it is on stock unrooted or on a a customer ROM. And despite what some Sprint technicians have said, it is not due to liquid damage. So far nothing I've tried has fixed this issue, it seems that this is a software issue, perhaps with gingerbread.
I would like to challenge the Dev's if you aren't already doing so, to search the coding in the software to see if you can find what is causing this. It's not an overwhelming amount of phones that have this issue, but it is more than enough to note.
Also, if anyone has or hasn't experienced this issue on any of the leaked ICS ROMs, post on here so we can get an idea if it is only on gingerbread based ROMs.
I will also keep this thread updated on my progress and if I find anything new.

Hey. Another Sprint tech here. Been seeing the same issue come in, both customers with Epic 4G Touch models, and both after the most recent ICS update. Sucks that this thread has died, trying to avoid having to AE the customer's phone lol. In any case, gonna revive this in the hopes that someone has found a solution for this issue and is kind enough to post it here, because I am stumped haha.

[Q] Stockrom series v7.1 questions

Hii there y'all! I've been lurking here for quite a while now and suddenly decided to become an active member of the community.
Partially because i've always been able to find what i'm looking for and to solve any issues i had with the info on xda here.
(awesome site btw)
Now though i've got myself a Galaxy tab 3 7.0 and was shocked to see it came with 4.1 so i rushed to xda thinking "Yeah right, 4.1.... I gots to get me some kitkat!" and.....
Well, lets just say i was less than overwhelmed.
Appearantly 4.4 is "coming soon" or something and 4.3 is conspicuously not spoken of. Sooo..... i Started looking for a rom that would at least allow me to do app2sd and did some flashes. Crashrom was aptly named i found and the LT02wifi rom scared the heebeegeebees out of me (turned out nothing more than a no boot animation bug).
Basically i came to find there is NO 4.2.2 ROM for this tab that doesn't have issues. I decided to choose the one with the least remaining issues and slapped Stockrom series v7.1 on there last night. Must say it went like a dream and the tab is noticably quicker. I've not yet installed any apps i want to app2sd so i haven't tested the purpose for which i started this endevour but i do have some oddities which i want to ask about.
One is that i get SM-T210R model number in device info. Second is that the status in device info states the batterystatus "not charging" while i do have it on the USB cable. I can confirm it charges as it went from 42 to 43% just now.
I have the much discussed bluetooth keyboard problem, in a sense. When i freshly coupled the device to the tab i could use it fine. Once that idle timer put the keyboard "to sleep" however it doesn't come back. It says it is connected but it isn't.
The last oddity is that the android version states 4.2.2 while the release notes state they went back to the 4.1.2 version.
Is there anything i can do to help solving that keyboard issue or is there already a fix?
Why is my SM-T210 suddenly thinking it has infrared (or did your h4xx0rc0d3z actually generate ir hardware somehow? ) and saying its an SM-210R?
Why is my battery "not charging" while it in fact is?
and who's wrong, my tab or the release notes, about 4.2.2?
If there is any way i can be of use, ask me, worst thing that can happen is i KILL EVERYONE ON THE PLANET!! HAR HAR har ha.....
(eeermm... ignore that last bit.. )
