[BUG] Vertical lines, blob, circles, pixelation on screen on some phones - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Does anyone else notice vertical lines on the screen, especially when the brightness is low?
Its extremely annoying on auto brightness. I'm wondering of mines a dud. Looks kind of grainy. I'm wondering if its the screen size.
UPDATE : since using other Roms and keeping my brightness on at least halfway I do not notice these lines much at all anymore.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

If you came from a Qhd display it should look grainy to you. Try using a different launcher than touchwiz.

Yea I know it has a low resolution. I have a sensation. The lines are just crazy though
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

can you take a picture with a camera and show us?

You probably won't be able to see anything. Turn your brightness all the way down and see if you can notice what I'm talking about.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

no lines here at any brightness level.

none on mine as well.

It might depend on your background pic. Look for it on the lock screen if you haven't changed the stock one yet... I see what the OP is talking about. But with different wallpapers I dont see it.
I got two of these and its the same on both so dont think its a flaw. But I will be passing by TMO when I'm out again to see if the display units is the same!

I have the lines as well. Noticed them also on my Nexus S.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

it starting to sounds more like color banding what you are referring to

Perhaps. I never noticed it on my Other galaxies. I've had the vibrant and the 4g. And I have the sensation. Big difference from the qhd. But I like this screen better. Maybe it is this "color banding". Its niticible on certain colors like gray or green when the brightness is low.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

It seems to look similar to when you are using the camera and you see all the "noise" before you snap. The picture.
Please excuse my terminology.
However these are stationary. The lines don't move. You will notice them as you swipe left to right on something. Perhaps I am just being picky.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

Its also very noticible watching Netflix.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

Lines probably coming from a color banding problem the original galaxy s 2 had the issue as well. It was fix with a update

Definitely not a color banding issue. If you're on the home screen and you slowly scroll and watch closely, the vertical lines do not follow the wallpaper and objects as they should if this was a color banding issue.

Aw wth?! I have lines on mines too.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App

Ah hah. XP i'm not the only one
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

got the lines too

I just noticed i have them too, and they seem to be there too even at higher brightness.

Yes! Definitely going back to find one without this issue. 90% of the reason I got this phone was for the incredible screen and I don't have to tell you how disappointing it is to find that flaw.

Does anyone have a plain ICS shade grey wallpaper?

Looking for a plain grey wallpaper with the ICS build shade of grey. If anyone has one I'd be one happy camper.

Nope. Plain solid color grey. The shade used in the ICS framework.

Oh you mean the kind of burnt gray? Almost black but not quite? I might have something like that =\
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
No, not almost black. Just a solid background of the solid color of the shade of grey used for the menu/icons in ICS.

I was looking for this too, but didn't find anything even close.
So I made my own! (thanks to lunapic.com, it took all of 2 seconds)
I uploaded the original from the framework, then resized it from 480x800 to 960x800 (this may not be your size, I have an OG Evo...) - if not, try lunapic - it's pretty easy to edit images online, I used my phone & Opera (regular, not Mini)
Anyway, this is what I think you meant:
(NOTE!: Do _NOT_ just "Save As..." on the image below, download the attatched .zip file! The image below is just a thumbnail!)
If this is what you wanted, your welcome! - zmag
That's actually better than what I wanted. Originally I just wanted the "solid" grey. Thanks man.

Ahh hmm, all I can suggest is maybe taking a screenshot of anything that contains the grey color you want; then use any image editor that has a "color picker/dropper" feature (to copy the grey color); then make a new image of your screen size, and wallah! you're done!
If you can't manage that, post a screenshot with something containing the grey you want, and post your screen dinensions - I'll do the rest Oh, and glad you like the stock black/grey gradient I spit out (I thought that's what you were looking for originally; that's what _I_ was searching for at least ) - zmag
I know I can do that. I've been away from a pc though. I may do it when I finally go home today, but I think I might stick with the one you posted instead.

Default screen resolution

Hello xda, I was wondering what is the default screen wallpaper resolution for the evo? I'm gonna make a Chicago white sox's wallpaper with a blue white sox's logo with a gray background which will match my blue on gray sox's snap back hat

I know that but when you apply a wallpaper on any launcher the default is in a smaller form. As shown here. V

If you want the whole picture, without cropping the pic, try an app called wallpaper wizadrii
Or u can adjust the crop size by touching the bottom dot and dragging it down, then do the same to the opposite dot.

[TIPS] Lower Your Screen Power Consumption

Hello guys I wrote a guide that will help you improve your battery life because screen is the most thing that uses battery, here is a solution for all that, don't forget that the screen sensor for auto brightness is also taking lot of power.
enjoy

I think we tested screen filter current draw on the nexus one and it showed no difference since its a software solution only. The mA draw remained unchanged using it or not.
Anybody noticed the difference, its doing great here.
This doesn't strain my eye as much, but doesn't see much on battery.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I've been using screen filters for a long time now. Great app!
Sounds interesting, I guess, but lately I've been thinking my screen is actually more dim than I'd like it to be. To be honest, I wish auto-brightness settings erred on the side of "more bright" rather than "less bright." There's probably a mod for just that, but I haven't really looked for it yet.
I managed 4h30m screen time on auto brightness, data on.

So your tip is to install an app?

Home button changing colors....

anyone else notice this? i noticed yesterday my home button is now purple instead of blue.
It's the same pebble blue color. The only difference is that the home button is not behind the gorilla glass so it has that opaque color contrast
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
no. its purple.
Are we going to argue colours all day, it shouldn't change colour maybe in different lightings it looks different but mine has always had a purplish colour to it.
Why not post a picture instead of arguing?
I returned my pebble blue for the white because of this

Do you work with oils or solvents? Like a paint thinner or for that matter whiskey.

The pen is BLUE! The pen is Bluuuuuuee!
But that button is purple. I have the pebble blue and had never noticed it before until SOMEONE pointed it out (point) .Mine looks like yours.
On closer inspection kitkit201 is also correct. The color of the metal used on the bezel seems to be impregnated as that purple color. The Gorilla glass changes it's appearance once applied. The button however is raw so no glass, no coating, no love and therefore will look different much like stained wood when compared to unstained wood.
I'm the po-po so no solvents....lol

Mines turning purple too. But I'm not really worried about it though

Yes I have it although it is very very small and very hard to tell (only if in sunlight at the proper angle. Shouldn't happen at all? No. But not enough to bother my OCD.....yet. If it gets worse and I think it will become a problem I will pursue a replacement so I'd keep an eye on it.

Nope. Mine is not that bad. It's only doing it in one small area right above the front facing camera. If mine was like yours I don't think I could get used to it. Although it's difficult to tell from just one picture. What I have noticed is that lint /dust gets caught in the gap. Kinda sux....

Got another unit but this one is not as bad as my first. This one I can live with. But unfortunately this one still has the screen smearing issue, and dlink wifi issue. Which are the main reasons I returned the first unit. I've found some work around so I think Im gonna keep the phone this time around.
