[q] only problems with commercial gps-software on galaxy s! - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

hello!
as i haven't found a thread comparable to what I experience with commercial gps software, I decided to start one.
i have tried NAVIGON, SYGIC MOBILE, ANDNAV2 and finally COPILOT 8. Of those, only ANDNAV2 worked satisfying, the rest either crashed already at the start or got no gps lock.http://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/mad.gif
In google-maps and google-navigation i am getting a very good signal, I have improved it with gps fix, gps aids etc.
has anybody any idea, why the galaxy s seems to defy anything that doesn't come from GOOGLE??!? http://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
it's quite frustrating, and I have read similar experience on other forums.
thanks, yours, david

Hi, for me is the same. Yesterday I tried with Sygic and it was ok, today no gps lock. But if I go to NDrive 10 or google maps then I got a lock. Quite estrange behavior.

i find iGo for android is the best..

Mapking - P3300

Hey folks, here's wishing a very happy new year to the entire xda-community! my query is related to the mapking software. I've been using this software with mumbai map which came bundled with my HTC P3300 for the last couple of months. I hv noticed a significantly large positional error between actual and gps position on the map. Initially thought could be due to low gps signal, so got myself an external antenna which sorted the low signal problem, however the positional error remains the same. does anyone else experience this. is there some way i can apply some sort of correction (or a patch perhaps) to the maps. Being a navigator we are used to such corrections wherein we change the datum of the gps receiver to sychronise with the actual printed maps. Also pls note that google maps works flawless and pretty much accurate.any advise on this.thanx!
First of all a happy new year to you as well!
Since you mention that Google Maps works well, I can tell you that it has nothing to do with your GPS signal.
I ain't familiar with the MapKing software, but I'm pretty sure that you need to re-calibrate the map correctly.
hey prodinho, thnx very much for the input. "recaliberate" that's precisely what i need to do. however the software by itself doesn't have any options. any advice?
yes buddy, i found the same while using it for Delhi.. However I feel, the old version's map is pretty accurate than the newer one. I am right now using the 2007 version and YES, its smtimes give me positional errors !
Hey jupinder, which particular older version is the most accurate as per your experience. thanx.
Im not sure but I think you can load the maps in OziExplorer on your PC to calibrate them.
Then you can save them and put it back on your device..
Download and install OziExplorer for PC: http://www.oziexplorer.com/
hv gone through the oziexplorer link. unfortunately doesnt support the mapking format of maps. so cannot load them.
Can someone pls guide me in calibrating mapking maps in oziexplorer. Thanx.
sorry fr my late reply..it was the mapking 5 or 7 version map of delhi and it rocked....Laterly i've found tht it also depends on the no of satellites u r getting locked to !!

TomTom GPS data stream problem

Hello Guys,
I manage to upgrade Vogue to WM6.1 + GPS.
When I run Google Maps it work fine. Show me exactly where I am.
When I run TomTom from AstroGPSLauncher, the TomTom showed me that it found 7 satellites.
But I do NOT see the road.
When I try to enter direction I get an error message related to the GPS data.
It is as if the GPS data is wrong. I think TomTom try to put me in a different part of the world and its completely confused.
Any Idea what I did wrong?
Thanks.

You forgot to tell us what version of TT and what map you are using!
It's unlikely to be a hardware or rom problem otherwise Google Maps would not work.
-GT
I'm using version 7.45 .
Today I also installed it on my friends phone (HTC Touch Sprint) and it was working OK.
So the TomTom version is OK, the Vogue work OK with GoogleMaps and MS Live.
What can be the reason that TomTom GPS is confused on my machine?
I also installed GPS Tuner and I saw the same problem:
The location jump all the time. Sometimes it put in in China...
Very strange....
Can someone think about something I did wrong???

Problems with TomTom7 on Touch Pro 2

Hi, I see some threads that suggest TomTom 7 can be installed on a Touch Pro 2. I bought TomTom 7 on micro SD and it won't run. I get a message "Your device is not compatible with this version of TomTom NAVIGATOR!" Is there something simple that I am missing that is causing this. TomTom support were no help.
Offtopic: Why not ask your question in one of the threads you have found
Ontopic: Officially the TP2 is not supported at this moment. It will work, just ask Google
Hi PGLion.
I started a new thread because none of the other threads were actually about TomTom7 on the TP2, they just gave me hope!
On the ask Google suggestion, I may be a bit slow, but I have not found anything that helps me. If you have a link that you think will help, I'd be very grateful if you could post it.
TT7 on TP2

yes,
try >"7.910" "(9196)"< as search terms in google.
before installing that version you should also chek the reports of other users stating that after installation bluetooth stopped working.
You want "ttn7.915.9196.vga_black.cab"
Works fine.
In fact a quick google takes us to this very site:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=482075
Bluetooth still working fine for me.
Yes, TomTom7 DOES work on TouchPro2. I use it almost daily. It's very nice.
But it DOES cripple bluetooth (at least the build that I'm using). It replaces a couple of bluetooth drivers in your Windows directory that are incompatable (or so it appears).
If anyone's having issues with this, PM me. I'll find the thread (I think it was at PPCGeeks) that has instructions re: fixing it.

To save looking - you will need to rename or delete the following dll files in the \windows directory:
\windows\BtSdkCE30.dll
\windows\BtCorelf.dll

i too can confirm that TT7 works on TP2, might be best you use a software called cabinstl to install the cab file to your required location
The biggest problem I'm having is some serious GPS lag on my Verizon Touch Pro2 running TomTom (I've tried v6 and v7).
TOMTOM 7 install issues on Tilt 2
Has anyone had problems with the install going automatically to the device and not having enough memory to run?
Mine works, but I have a few issues. The physical keyboard doesn't work correctly (when I type, I get multiple non-english characters entered, but the on-screen keyboard is fine). The keyboard on my previous Tilt (original) worked fine with TT6. It also appears that there's no GPS: it shows reception of 0 satellites, yet it works fine. Seems way to accurate to be getting position from cell phone triangulation. Also, I'm using the "black VGA" map, but there appears to be an issue with POIs. Gas stations were shown on screen in completely undeveloped areas. Fortunately, I wasn't looking for gas.
TT7 (V7.915) working OK on my stock UK Vodafone (WM6.1) TP2 with no major lag or loss of any other features. Gets a lock fairly quickly (10-30 seconds).
Custom POIs are accurate and as expected.
Satellite reporting is behaving itself.
Hardware keyboard: Worked fine first go, then started printing double/foreign characters (eg: A gave A+A(Umlaut)), then back to OK after I went into soft keyboard settings and re-selected English. Exited TT, came back in and hardware keyboard seems OK still.
The only major issue I have is that TT sometimes crashes while loading ("We're sorry..." Windows error screen) and I have to turn the phone off/on to get TT going again.
Edit:

GPS not workign

Hello together,
i have my desire now since nearly two month. Im relly happy with the phone. But one problem:
GPS is not working, i don't get a GPS fix.
It didn't work as I had the phone completely new neither now after i rooted it. I already tried a couple of different radios but my phone doesn't find any satelites.
Does anybody else has the problem? Is this just a software bug or is the hardware damaged?
If I have to send it back to HTC, do you know how long does it take till i get my phone back? Im based in germany.
Thank you very much for your help!
best regards
Tom
I only have my desire 2 days now, it has a orange uk branded phone, so I unbranded it to a stock htc rom, and I have the same problem as you, it takes ages to lock a gps signal.
Today it took 30minutes to lock the gps signal on my ndrive.
I don't have a problem with my GPS on my Orange debranded Desire, what ROM are you debranding with?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I use this one because of the portuguese language:
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.1_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121684.exe
Do you use any program to help catch the gps signal?
Regards
I lost mine with a radio update, had to use 32.30.00.28U_405.00.11 to get GPS working again. Which radio do you have?
NDrive has problems locking with the Desire's GPS. Launch NDrive, press home button, enable the GPS and goto NDrive again. That works for me most of the times.
Or use Google Maps to get a fix and then launch NDrive.

Thanks, i will try that, as soon as I can I will report if it works.
Thanks again
I tried it with these radios:
32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11
32.37.00.32U_4.06.00.16_2
32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
And with none of them I got GPS fix.
I tried it also with differnt applications:
Google Maps
Navigon
GPS Status
GPS Test
But without success, no GPS fix at all
Oh by the way, i tried it also with the Stock ROM and with OpenDesire 1.4 and OpenDesire 1.5
€: I use now OpenDesire 2.1 with the newest Radio 32.42.00.32U_5.09.00.08
I still don't have any chance to find a satelite. Has anyone an idea to fix the problem?
i don't know if it's allowed on this board, i just wanted to push my message to the first page, after it was now on page 15. Perhaps anyone has an idea about fixing the problem.
Thank you!
All that worked for me was trying the radio I had originally (before I started playing around). You tried any of the older ones?
Hi,
I also now have a problem with GPS fix. First I have overheating & reboot problem, then MB were replaced & now I can't get fix (no satellites at view at all). I hope that this is software related (although I do not use GPS much). So probably somebody knew how to perform cold reboot of GPS sensor (I perform this with previous Touch Diamond to bring GPS back to life)?

Differences in GPS accuracy in radio versions?

Hi,
I'm currently on radio version Radio_12.35d.60.140fU_26.08.03.07_M_Test running CoreDroid Desire HD V4.6.
As I'm using my phone for Geocaching, I'm not very happy with the GPS accuracy.
My /system/etc/gps.conf is set to NTP_SERVER=europe.pool.ntp.org.
I've tried the usual reset and download A-GPS using GPS Status, and I get a fix pretty quick.
When I go Geocaching my friend with an iPhone4 (!) has a much more accurate GPS. I miss my target with 10 m.
So my question is, are there any differences in the GPS accuracy in the different Radio versions?
BR,
C

I think the only way to answer this question is to suggest that you try different radios and see what works best for you.
The success or failure of the radio depends on so many factors.... where you live, carrier, rom, signal strengths, etc, etc..... and also on what you are looking for from the radio ie battery life, phone signal, gps signal, etc.
There is no definitive answer!
Some days ago I struggled with some GPS troubles too.
It took me quite a while to figure this out but it is well reproducible on my DHD (everything performed outside, for sure):
GPS from the radio 12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2 from WWE 1.72 or the 12.35d.60.140fU_26.08.03.07_M_Test radio behave like this: When you start GPS status for the first time after boot the DHD starts to fix one satellite after another and then keep them ALL fixed. When you now quit GPS Status and restart it the DHD starts to fix satellites again but then lose some of them just to fix them again a second later or so, then loses some of them again and so on. Sometimes you then have just 3 or 4 satellites fixed. The only way for me to get rid of this strange behavior is to make a cold restart then GPS status is fine again for the first start, but after restarting GPS Status same again.
When I use the radio from the 1.32 WWE this does not appear after restarting GPS Status, it always fixes as much satellites as possible and KEEP them CONSTANTLY fixed (here in Austria regularly around 9). When I use my DHD for car nav I don’t care too much about it but I guess this might play a rule when you use it for geocaching (and need more accuracy, which is provided by more fixed satellites, if I am not wrong) … hope that helps a little bit.
This is the Desire HD's only flaw, the GPS. Well for me anyway.
You can get it working to a point. And i think all the guys cooking ROMs have got this right now.
For example i am running CM7 RC4 and i can now always get a lock but it bounces a lot. What i mean is, take google maps for example, the GPS locks, and almost never loses the lock now, but the circle that fixes your position on the map is constantly on you then way off you all the time. So it knows that you are 'somewhere there'. which for a GPS in an urban area 'somewhere there', anything from 10m - 500m, is not good enough.
In reality it is not very good at all and is very disappoint as the big screen makes using maps a big plus
I have given up on trying to get this to work now. My Desire contract is up for renewal soon so i will get another phone and at this point an HTC phone may not be my next phone. HTC has mostly great build quality but they don't seem to care if the phone features work or not. Which is sad because if they addresses this issure, and its been the same for a good while now, they would be the the best phone for sure.
Personally i think that they could do better with the camera and GPS, the hardware.
Oh and i have also tried many different radios.
