[IDEA!]How-to get in bootloader without vol buttons - HD2 Android NAND Development

This is my idea!
Since we make android partition in the nand like system boot data etc i found a way to get in bootloader without working vol buttons!
only i need some one to work it out ofcourse
you need to have root and terminal and busybox and android on nand
well here is the plan!
why dont make a boot.img to flash over the old boot and the boot.img we flashed with android take us to bootloader
then we can flash CLK or windows mobile so we could use the phone fully!
if some one can work this out pls do it
with CLK we also need a CWR that use the home and start button to navigate in CWR

Also when flashing the new boot.img you have to use the volume to navigate up or down.

I believe he is talking about booted android from the MAGLDR...

I have a great IDEA for YOU!!!
FIX YOUR VOLUME BUTTONS!!!

This is so stupid! PPL 'll start to ask for a new kernel, capable of 12mpx photos, full hd recording and 1 week battery duration... oh.. u don´t know what is a kernel?!

Seems like you got registered and made your very first post to down put someone else.
Since you did not read what XDA forum is all about. Let me re-iterate.
XDA forum is all about development.
And with it all comes members who had given many craxy ideas and HAVE actually created apps and done mods from those very craxy ideas.
Though the OP's suggestion is near impossible as it requires coding from the start and would be best achieved from the manufacturer side.
But did ANYONE imagine HD2 a 3 year old mobile running Android as smooth as default Android equiped phones.
AND you never know what else developers and HD2 put together is capable of.
SO you can take UR ideas and downputs elsewhere.

Rom Manager/Clockwork Recovery

As most of you already know I have no trackpad and due to this I can't use custom recoverys. I've been campaigning for an option to use power to select so I can use recovery again.
Now I have a problem that I can't flash any froyo roms but can flash others fine. I've narrowed down the problem I think. It's definitely not SD card related or ext related. I think the rom manager does not wipe every necessary thing that it needs to. When I could use recovery before I could flash froyo roms. Now I have rom manager as my only option and it only seems to wipe data cache and ext.
ROM Manager didn't wipe SD-EXT for me.
If you use linux then format your card in it and try again. Maybe this helps.
Will post again when something crosses my mind
EDiT: Just read your post again. Are you shure it's not SD?
OK. Then try using... damn you and your trackball

Yeah i have tried reformat of sd card. Tried a new sd card with only fat32 on it. Tried a version of froyo without a2sd.
Really stuck haha.
So what's stopping you going stock and taking it back for exchange? The T-Mobile ROM is available so I'd just do that!!
Warranty void. It's only the trackpad it would be fine if I wasn't such a rom whore lol
The warranty isn't void if you go back to stock...they won't even know you flashed a Rom

Ha thank you. Yeah water damage equals instantly void. I opened it up and fixed it but 2 months later the trackpad is totally gone. I just really want the ability to use recovery fully again.
What if you test your luck and bring it back like this?
With stock rom ofc
If they say no... you could just pay for the trackpad!

that makes sense....(htc sense ) nah, but really.....if it costs even 50 bucks id still say thats worth it....a 400quid phone with limited usability....?
The phones fine. I only need trackpad for recovery. Or alternate button.
I wouldn't hope too much on someone developing another recovery...
What if you edit the rom you are using and remap you trackpad press to another button?
Like the search button which i personally never use
EDiT: I'm not 100% shure this would work in recovery... but it's worth a try!
I'm pretty sure it needs to be edited within the recovery its not rom specific.
Hmm... your point seems right since all the modules are loaded in the rom and none of them is used for recovery...
I will check the AMDesireRecovery and look where they have all those button settings

Thanks. I have no idea where to start. All i know is that it is possible. Clockwork 2.0.0.3 had it but it couldn't mount the sd card or anything but the power button did select! I don't know how to edit a recovery or what file controls what. I mean there is a "keys" file but is that keys as in buttons or something else?
I think that the keys file is the verification if the zip is signed... I may be wrong...
What if we somehow merge the files of a recovery which uses power to select with a newer recovery?
Can you provide 2.0.0.3 of ClockWorkMod?
Ok just tried straight swapping the keys file and that did nothing. No response.
EDIT: Give me 2 mins.
EDIT2: Uploading very slowly. It would be great to have 2.0.0.3 merged with 2.0.1.4 (latest) as that would give me all the functionality i need.
Oh damn... the recoveries need to be signed so the stock recovery can eat them...
Do we need a special sign for that?
Yeah. There is a thread on here somewhere that has the tools for signing them...it's on the first page i'll have a quick look.
Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709141 bottom of the post.
I know how to sign files but I was wondering if we need some HTC cert for signing.
I will try to do it with the normal one if needed.
We have a problem... if I edit the files and put it back together I can't test it coz I have flashed the permanent version. :S

Not to be a **** but you could easily find the links you need by using google or the search function here. You are running some seriously outdated software, I suggest you do your research and update accordingly.

We need more info to help you out. Ok, you have the 1.47 software. Is it a stock rom which was rooted, or was part 1 and part 2 of rooting done? If you did part 2 and you have the engineering bootloader on your phone, then you can just flash the 2.2-based rom of your choice over what you have now after doing a full wipe. Turn your phone off completely. Press the power button while holding volume down and it will boot into a white screen. Post all the top few lines you see on here so we know what you're working with.

Turn your phone off and then power it back on while holding volume down. Tell me what's listed. We are looking for S-OFF at the top and then your HBOOT version.
if you were rooted and NAND unlocked before all you have to do is flash a new ROM based on the latest OTA's easy peasy man.
any Evo based ROM in here as long as your full NAND unlocked and ROOT will work

I was going to recommend that he flash the all in one sprint lovers ROM so he can update his radio/wimax/pri and ROM in one shot. Just wanted to make sure he's S-OFF first.
sound advice, i personally flash each one individually for radios/wimax/PRl

If you unroot, you won't be able to use wireless tether [for free] at least. You can try that z-4root, if you just want a temporary root, but I have no experience with it.

Well, where do you currently stand then?
Okay. Now do you have a recovery? If not, go to the market and download rommanager. Then, it'll set up a recovery for you. Download a rom like myns or mikfroyo or cm6/7 if you don't like sense. And then go to the radios link and download the all in one. When rommanager is done downloading, don't let it automatically flash. Make sure you have the all in one radio and the rom downloaded. Turn of your phone, turn it back on while holding the volume down button down and go to recovery then press the power button. It'll tale you to the recovery. Now, you'll probably have to wipe everything(make sure you backed up everything) first, create a nandroid back up tho. And then wipe and then flash the rom and then the radios all in one. You're golden
Someone confirm these instructions so nothing gets ****ed up

Well, seeing your other post, it says you are S-OFF, which is rooted. So you technically can go flash a new rom and be on your way.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10992006#post10992006
That thread has all the latest radios, ect. Since you are S-OFF, you can download the first link, the combo. Boot into recover, wipe your cache and dalvik cache, then flash the file. You'll be set then.
What type of ROM are you looking for? If you want to stay close to stock but just be up to date with everything, I stand by my recommendation of sprint lovers. It is essentially stock, but it has some performance tweaks.
Here is the download link for the ROM. As I stated before, it will update your radio/wimax/pri and will be the most current build of software for your phone.
Here is the link for the thread for the ROM, in case you want to check it out, and I recommend that you do.
Download the file, put it on the root of your SD card (directly on it, not in any folders). Turn your phone completely off, then turn it back on while holding volume down (like I had you do before). Give it a minute while it scans for the file and loads it. Once it's done loading it will ask you if you want to update, choose yes (use the vol keys to navigate up and down, power button to select). It will then update everything for you. Be sure to have a charged battery and do NOT under any circumstances pull the battery out during the update as you will most likely permanently brick your device. When it's done, delete the file from your SD card.
This will wipe your phone completely so make sure your contacts are backed up and use Titanium to back up your apps.

[Q] Think i've bricked my Nexus

Hi Guys...
I'm a complete Android noob, and an idiot to boot... I bought a UK Galaxy Nexus SIM free last week, and flashed it with ClockworkMod over the weekend in preparation for CM9.
when i went to boot into Recovery, I got the droid with his Chest open, but no options to access anything / ROM / etc...
So I searched the market for a Custom Recovery, thinking this was what I needed... the second i tapped 'install' my phone seemed to trip out (almost like a fuse tripping, but quietly...
Now my phone won't turn on / boot up / or anything... After screaming and shouting at my self for being such a c*ck I looked online at the Market to see what it was I had just installed on my (now) £500 paper weight, and turns out i have installed an ACER tablet recovery image.
I use Mac iOS-X Lion, and my adb won't detect it at all...
What do i do...???? My knowledge of this stuff is... well... not good enough to have been playing around in the first place... can someone please point me in the right direction to get a Samsung Bootloader / recovery / whatever, and tell me how i load it up
thanks
If you have battery pulled and your phone won't turn on, even after charging, there is not much anyone can do.
Oh dear oh dear oh dear...
First thing, pull the battery and put it back in. Then hold down volume up AND down and then press the power button whilst continuing to hold the volume buttons. If you're lucky you'll get into fastboot mode. If you do, you can then flash the stock image back onto the device (see this guide for instruction on that).
Assuming it works, you can thank yourself lucky and walk away safe in the knowledge that READING UP ON THINGS YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WILL HELP YOU IN THE FUTURE
Should also point out the above is all for Windows so get yourself a decent OS and you should be OK

It depends on where recovery was flashed (as in, destination of flash).
? why dont you go for where you bought the device ! they will probably take money for fixing it but better thant throw it in the rubbish

If it can get into ODIN then you should be OK. Get any random Nexus FW on it to get it booting then use the factory images to get the latest official FW back on it and job done
1. Download a valid CWM image to your computer (toro or maguro).
2. Reboot into bootloader mode (hold vol up/down + power with the phone off, or adb reboot bootloader)
3. fastboot flash recovery C:\path\to\recovery.img

Thanks aunto for commenting on my useful post.
Whatever kid, I saw how many other forums you posted this in. Can we get a REAL member of the community to confirm we need this file, and that it's not brickware.

sometimes it disconnects itself due to continuous Data transfer in between adb and phone......so
To avoid interruption between ADB and Your phone.
i personally recommend it, rest is on your side.

try these steps and try to replace boot.img
(by copying boot.img file only inside the folder),from any other working roms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749212
older version of boot.img incompatible with black screen devices.
I've never had a recovery with a black screen [on any of my devices and I've tested my share of crappy recoveries]. The stock RUU recovery option sounds better OR flash a working recovery through fastboot. The whole point of a recovery is to have a tool by which you can reset/recover your device. If I have to drive in to a workstation and do an adb plug-in anytime I want to use recovery.. I'm sorry, but I'd seek a better solution. And that's without considering the security risks associated with dropping a firewall and adding a java dev kit. I would in fact, if I had experienced such, find out:
1. Why the blackscreen occurred
2. Fix it
3. Take preventative measures so that it would not occur again.
But that's just me. I wouldn't build a tool to propigate my device's bad behavior.

its fully upon users ,weather they are using it on firewall on or off.(it will work on both the conditions if the "adb" have the access to the port)
its just a recommendation from my side. That's it
Its fully safe from my end and free from any type of virus.
as i have already said this tool is not mine. Please consult the owner of this tool linked on first page of this Thread For future reference.
i don't know why this "black screen recovery" Problem is there with all the newly manufactured WFS.
Why occurred?
1. I am rooting and reflashing CWM on old wfs without any problem.(even rooted for the first time)
2. the same above is not working with any newly manufactured devices.(all working well but With a black CWM recovery)
3. My doubts are pointing, its a fault of hardware,or any kind of display adapters Upgradation from HTC Side.(May be HTC is planning to give supports like ICS etc for future)
4.Also Some rooting errors can be the catch,(Again if HTC upgraded something)
4.CWM is fully working without any error.(Blindly)
5.only the four keys are lighting up,
6.This tool is The only option in that case to flash any custom ROMS.

CM on LOCKED Bootloader !! Now with test build !!(CM9)Come and help !! :)

Hey everybody !!! Did you red this ?? http://www.xda-developers.com/android/locked-bootloader-xperia-s-and-want-cm10-no-problem/
Is it possible on our devices too ?? It would be awensome if anybody from our community could do anything like this for our device .
I think at least CM7 or 9 would be possible i dont even think of getting cm10..
@djolivier
Hi,
it could be possible. I just made a test build for everyone who is willing to test (even users with UB). This is for anzu, don't know if it will work with Arc. Do NOT mirror it, share it or something else. I don't want to create a thread for this because I'm not sure wether it boots or not. The reason why I post it here is that I want to know if it boots. If it does, tell me how it is like. If it doesn't, try to boot to recovery (thanks to pvyParts for recovery.tar, I will remove it later, it's just for debugging purposes) and get me log by connecting the phone to a PC and issueing
Code:
adb shell cat /proc/last_kmsg > sdcard/last_kmsg.txt
.
Developers, feel free to correct mounting points or errors in ramdisk.
Please charge your battery up to 100% before flashing this because offline charging might be broken. I am not responsible for anything (not even for bricked devices) at all, I just wanted to share it for you as I actually made this for a friend of mine who can't test it ATM.
Thanks to FXP for making this all possible!

The support is dropped for both CM 7.2 and CM 9, so the chance, that someone will actually make it work, is very low.

It is a shame because i thnik i'm not the only one who can't open the BL so a CM for locked bl would be very awensome..

I think it will be harder because Xperia 2011 devices and Xperia 2012 devices use different memory partitions.

Wooooooooooooww!!! THANK YOU Very Much!!! I will test if i have some time! What do you need if boot successfully? Thanks again, this is unbelievable!!
Sorry, can i flash this from CWM? Delete cache, system, data, etc before flash?(which is must?)
Yes, just flash it using CWM and make a factory reset (data, cache, dalvik cache). System gets wiped automatically.

Hmm.. you should try with .587 's kernel maybe it could help. /Sorry but im on GB and i don't have time to test.. :/
Yes as far as I remember I used .587 kernel. Can I please have a log? I was aware of the fact that it wouldn't boot (and I hope you are too). This is for advanced users/dev only. I do not own the Xperia Arc S (therefore I don't want to create a thread for this) If another dev who owns this device wants to continue this project, he can do so.

Hi,
I tried adb shell with connected USB but device not found, so i cannot get log Recovery won't work with voldown..so no log there I will try with .587 but now i haven't got more time
I think we sholud post this in another section of this forume bec. this is only a Q/A section and maybe just some people can se it...
As I said, I'm not going to create a thread. If you want to overtake the responsabilty AND the project and you think you have the skills to get this working, you can create a thread. Else it's pointless.
