I'm not quite following what you're trying to achieve.
When you flash a rom, the kernel is included. You don't have to flash the kernel separately unless you want a custom kernel.
Following the link above (the lmgtfy, I didn't know what CM7-GX4 was), it seems that you're looking for the kernel from a rom that's quite old. Are you wanting to flash that kernel with a different rom?
Maybe sleep deprivation is making me silly and dumb, but I just don't get it.

And in your attempt to be an ungrateful individual who requires that everything be handed to him....I've gone ahead and completed the difficult task of running another Google search for you.
I've also gone ahead and thrown in a brief "How-to" so that you know exactly what you are supposed to do with the information I gave you, since you apparently failed to grasp the fairly simple concept on your own.
1. Use the link from my first response to download the CM7-gx4 ROM.
2. Use the second link to learn how to extract the kernel from the CM7-gx4 ROM that you downloaded from step #1. (I assumed you would've been able to figure this part out on your own)
3. Take newly extracted CM7-gx4 kernel and flash it to your phone.
4. Go back to the stickies in this forum and read the thread about ROMs/kernels and then facepalm yourself for not realizing that the kernel is already packaged within the ROM and doing the above steps for no reason.
5. Press the thank you button at the bottom of this post.

if u actually took the time out and actually read that post u should understand that the developer posted a link for a kernel... i dont expect things to b handed to me but i expect people to actually know what im talkin about to actually help me with what i want without being sarcastic... so now go and think about what u've done

If you "expect people to actually know what you're talking about ", then you should type more clearly and give more information.
You said you were looking for a kernel for a rom and that you wanted to flash the rom soon. Then you said you were running Decks. Then you said (and I'm translating into proper spelling and grammar) "If you actually took the time to read that post, you'd understand that the developer posted a link for a kernel."
I'm still lost as to what you're trying to achieve, but I don't think it's even relevant because I think you moved on to something else.
If I understood what you were trying to do, I would try to help you. Maybe I'm just missing something obvious.

ok i cae from a nexus one rooted and running MIUI mod. i came to the EVO hoping to do the same. i have root and recovery but every time i flash a rom i gt bootloop. help i dont know what to do now?
You probably aren't wiping data. Either that or the MIUI kernel isn't playing nice with your EVO. Try to flash one of the AOSP kernels without agressive undervolting. If that doesn't work, try one without HAVS altogether.
think you could post a link to this?
Wrong forum.
how is it wrong forum? its a developement question
Do you only get boot loops when you flash miui? Have you tried any other rom? Is your S-ON, S-Off? Did you use unrevoked method to root? Is your evo a 004?
yes i get booy loops on every rom and i believe it is off and i did use unrevooked and i have no idea how would i go forth of checking that?
what he means by wrong forum is that you posted a question in the Developer forum.. questions go in the questions forum.. and you can post questions about a particular rom in that roms' thread to get the best help..
and in this case thats not even hosted here at XDA..

Did you just get your phone recently? If so, you probably have a late 003 or the new 004 hw version. Check it in your settings/about phone/hardware info. Then try this guide (read the cautions): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045.
i keep getting errors when i try to adb shell busy box. i dont understand why this is taking a couple days.

What he means by wrong forum is that it's not yet another rom. There is no discussion of development that goes on in this forum. It's nothing more than a release and support forum, at best a collection of bug reports.

I'm not trying to be rude but some of u need to get a life. I mean if u have nothing better to do than to pop in and out of every thread telling people they posted in the wrong place I feel sorry for u. Either try and help or don't say anything and let the mods decide wether its in the wrong place or not. I used to love coming on here and talking, learning and sharing but some of u are just completely ruining it.

my guess is you arent s-off/nand unlocked. reboot into hboot. power off and the back on, while pressing the volume down button. the very top line will tell you whether it is on or off.

Have you ever thought that the people that viewed werent comfortable with the correct answer to give? You did only have 1 hour and 16 minutes from the OP to this post, so perhaps a little patience.
This is the method I used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286893
I flashed this kernel through odin, it gives you root, clockwork mod, and busybox. I don't know if this is the "best" method, but it worked out pretty well for me. Hope things go well for you, and enjoy the awesome new phone
Damn dude chill out. Give it time. If u want just root without changing your kernel then flash crawrj rooted rom either odex or deodex. If u want root + clockwork mod then u need to flash a kernel but most people flashing kernels are suffering from LOS. I would recommend flashing the rooted stock rom.

Ok, we get it. Your a TDJ fanboy, noone cares. Now for your question OP, this is the guide I used when i rooted/flashed for the first time. It's made for the T989D (telus) version of the phone but also has instructions for the T989 as well. Give it a try.
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...d-ultimate-root-optimization-guide-steps.html
Use this to root:
Here
Use this to install a ROM:
Here
Both have Step by Step instructions with a video to help.
I don't why people always say they need to root first, it's BS.
All you do is use odin to flash CWM. No need to flash SU if you are gonna flash a custom rom. I just think people don't know what rooting means or does.
All you need is a custom recovery like CWM, then flash a rom.
If you are staying stock sure, flash cwm and then SU to root it.
Please don't confuse the OP. I mean sure he can do what you said, but rooting first is a sort of standard that everyone follows.

Questions go in the Q&A section

couple questions regarding custom roms

I had a couple question and hopefully you guys can help me out.
I have a gs3 and was looking to install a rom, now do these roms just add features or do they completely replace the default rom? Im I going to be able to do everything I was able to do before the custom rom? Also what does "cm10" or "cm5" mean? Also my phones 4g isnt working, it stays at edge, no mateer if I have full bars. Would a custom rom maybe solve the problem? If I add a custom rom can I revert to stock without side effects?
Thnks
Read and read and Google and Google, or vice versa! And have you rooted and flashed already? If so check your imei and see if it has numbers or just 0 (settings, about phone, status, imei) oh and read some more like the resource guide I created, and Google other things.

Buddy my advice to you is read more! And that's being serious because flashing things is no small matter but to answer you're questions.
Flashing a rom will replace the default.
It will change kernel, build, etc. The only thing that wont change is you're modem.
If you did install a touchwiz rom. You're most likely going to do everything you do plus more but make sure its based of T-Mobile... they tell you on the first post of roms.
Cm10 is cyanogen mod and they make asop roms. They best way to describe the rom is watch a video of the nexus stock rom.. u will get the jist of it.
For you're data make sure you're on a 4g area my friend. If u are then personally check you're data and make sure 4g is enabled. Still wont woek then maybe flashing the newest modem might work but be very very careful! !!!!
If u install cm10, akop stuff like that people recommend to odin back to your stock. Look up odin if you do not know what that means.
Ok I answered all you're questions
But truly watch out. From reading you're questions it sounds like you are new and want to learn which is good but keep reading and reading before you flash anything dude. Treat this like programming class and you're fighting for that A

You are the man.
What is the full model number of your GS3?
Dude you really look like you won't take advantage of all the rooting capabilities maybe it's best if you don't. Have you ever had 4G? It might be your area, tmobile doesn't cover everything. So custom roms most likely won't improve that, so before you do anything call tmobile and see what's up with that because most likely your paying for a service your not getting. If not then a warranty is in place if they cover it in your area, also let us know if you have mess with some settings in network.

It changes with whatever rom you flash to my understand, roms comes with their equipped kernels. You should wipe before you move on to next rom

Yes all ROMs come with a kernel otherwise they wouldn't boot.
Ahh, that's right. Thanks for clearing that up guys

The best way to learn something is to read ROM's first posts
First posts of many roms don't give much information actually... You'll probably have to read many ''first posts'' to get a proper understanding. People on here are annoying about telling new people how to get started because they in all likelihood learned by themselves though searching and reading. Flashing a new rom is easy but there is a learning curve and you will need troubleshooting skills, so the more you read and know the better!

We are all learning by making mistakes You think why I know more than e.g. OP of this thread? Because I'm too impatient to wait until somebody will answer my questions! I was doing things by myself, bricking phones, restoring them back and gaining knowlegde! So not more experienced users are "bad" because they won't tell everything, NEW USERS ARE TO LAZY TO SEARCH, MAKING MISTAKES AND LEARN!!!

Don't worry!
Anyone coming to XDA forums for the first time, is "noob" and all the other names...
What IS important - you have "sticky" threads that will explain quite a lot. BUT, you'll have to read and read and read until you'll know what and where to ask... Well, we all learn until we die...
So, yes, read. Search and search and read again! Or, if you're in real trouble, send PM (you know what that is, right?)...
Regarding your question, well, you'll just have to look around and decide what you'll do with your hov :fingers-crossed:
But, to be on "friendly side",
read that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598964 and that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1713257 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869667 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806152 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1996665. I KNOW - a lot to read, but...
Oh, don't just pick a rom like pants or shirt, go through all of them, read and read all OPs until you're sure which one to put on your hov. And before you do that for the first time, learn how to do that again and again...

To make it short: every rom needs a kernel that it's likely not stock kernel. In every OP of rom it's written which kernel you have to use...
