Gumdrop Drop Tech Case for Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Review - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Accessories

This is my review of the Gumdrop Drop Tech Case for Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Review. Some people might ask "why do you need a rugged case" I simply reply, "why not?" I paid good money for the Galaxy 10.1, money WELL worth it, but I want to protect the device. Aside from the Gumdrop case I recently installed, I also have the ZAGG InvisableSheld Maximum Coverage wrap on it (http://www.zagg.com).
I have always been a fan of rugged cases, starting with the Otterbox Defender I had on my Blackberry 8330. I was disappointed when I contacted Otterbox and found out they had no plans of making a case for the GT101. A few weeks ago I came across the website for Gumdrop (http://www.gumdropcases.com/) and my prayers were answered! I quickly pre-ordered my Gumdrop case for my Galaxy Tablet 10.1, then the waiting began.
I received the case in the mail on Monday October 10th, and was instantly impressed by the packaging it arrived in. Having worked retail for many years, a lot of times you can judge the quality of craftmanship of an item by the package it comes in, this packaging was clean and simple, yet drew attention to it. If I had a storefront, I would have no problem displaying this item on an endcap.

Once I got it opened, it was a bit tricky trying to figure out how to disassemble the case to put my Tablet in it. I was being careful as I didn't want to break anything, which I came to find out would be rather difficult to do to this tablet...
The trick is to start at the top-center and peel the rubber case away from the plastic "shell". Doing so, you can then work around the Tablet and remove the rubber outer layer, which snaps securely onto the shell.
Once the rubber case of off, you then snap the Tablet into the plastic shell. This is a very ridged shell and the tablet snaps extremely securely into place. The shell has the built-in screen protector, so I removed my currently screen protector, which was a ZAGG InvisableSheild which was recently damaged protecting my device, I have a warranty replacement on its way, but wanted to see how this case worked without the ZAGG. Note, I still have the rest of the Maximum Coverage InvisableSheild, which includes back and sides, and it still seemed to fit fine in the case.
I read some reviews about "bubbling" due to the cases built in screen protector (which is replaceable if it ever gets damaged) But I have not seen any distortion what so ever with the screen due to the protector, in fact, it seems alot more crisp and clear then the ZAGG InvisableSheild that was on it.
These next pictures show the shell's fit around the cameras, perfect alignment.
Once I got the shell snapped on, it was time to replace the rubber case. Doing so was fairly simple but wasn't just a case of sliding it over. It requires you to push down around the edges, "snapping" the rubber into the shell. This makes the fit incredible! There is NO play between the rubber case and the hard shell, a problem I often had with my Otterbox cases.
The port covers on this case was something that amazed me. Every Otterbox case I have owned has had the rubber port covers eventually break off, as you can see in the following picture, I do not think this is going to happen with this case any time soon... There is a rather thick piece of rubber holding both the charging port and the headphone port covers on.
So was this case worth the $49.99 I paid for it? Simply put, I would say "Yes". This case might not be for everybody, as it turns a rather slim device into something a little... beefier, I guess would be the best term for it, but in my opinion it did not take away from the portability of the device. If anything, I will take my tablet more places and not have to worry about breaking it...
I am interested to hear from other owners of Gumdrop cases, as well as anyone who has any questions, feel free to let me know!
Thanks!

I agree with all of your impressions of the case and have been enjoying it for a few weeks now as well.
The only bubbling from the screen protector is my own fault as I have yet to remove the Zagg one from the front, which is 100% causing it. Ive just been too lazy to remove it.

I could see how the texture of the ZAGG Shield would cause that... good to know, as I will save my replacement for if I ever want to go case-less.

Patiently waiting for my Military Edition to be delivered. I have the official Samsung case right now, which is decent enough, but doesn't offer a lot of impact protection.
I did have a Zagg shield on the front of my Tab, but I found (with two separate Zagg shields) several thin lines in the shields causing a distortion (very fine lines, like a filament, thin like a human hair). I contacted Zagg and they confirmed this was sometimes a problem with the shields. They did offer a replacement, but then I found out about the Gorila Glass and went without a shield. So far no scratches.

I"Mreally interested in these. How thick does this make the tab? Could I get an actual measurement?

Body Glove Mirage Case Review (With Pictures)

I know there have been reviews for the body glove before, but my father has a captivate as well so I took the opportunity to take some pictures with it next to mine for those of you interested in the amount of bulk it ads. While it adds a little bit of thickness and length, I prefer the feel of it compared to running bare. It feels more solid, and less prone to slip in the hand. As for the fit, it is tight enough that I have no fears of it coming off unless I need it to. The feel of the materials is very nice, and it slides in and out of pockets easily. I got one off of ebay for about $10 with shipping, so for that price it's amazing, but I gladly would have payed the $25 or $30 stores are charging. Highly recommended!

have the same case and I've dropped this phone so many times at the bar... bounces rite back... i swear by it too!
While I like my Mirage, I like the cheap ebay "Argyle" TPU sleeves much more, They are slightly slimmer than the Mirage and they fit slightly snugger. For $8.53 they are well worth it.
Just an update, dropped my captivate for the first time today. It fell out of my pocket about 3 feet face up onto concrete. Luckily I had the case on and there was no damage whatsoever. There doesnt even seem to be any indication of an impact on the case. I'm very happy I got it!
Got one for xmas, I love it. gives it a little more girth and easier to hold onto. not rubbery as its a hard rubber but it does provide a little grip.
I very much suggest it for a case.
I dropped my phone today on the street and the body glove protected it real good and nothing happened...It fits the phone perfectly and snug to protect it...Without the case I would imagine some real damage might have been done to the phone...it doesn't come with a screen protector so that also needs to be addressed as well to make sure your phone is really protected.
I got 1 for myself and my son from the att store the day i got 2 captivates and i must say after holding the captivate with the case i cannot use it without a case anymore because it just feels to thin/light weird heh.
The only thing i noticed with the body glove (bought mine "OEM" off ebay) is that fitting it over the top left a slight scuff on the corner(those that are visible only at a specific angle). It might just be how i put on the case although
Just wanted to say thanks for this review with the great pics. I just bought 2 of these cases (one for me, one for my wife). Both of us love them, definitely gives the phone a better, sturdier feel to it.

+1 I can't go without the case either. It feels like it will fly out of my hand at any moment.
Wierd indeed!
I have a cheap vinyl/rubber case. And it collects dust real bad. Do you have this problem with the Body Glove?

Not at all. Doesn't collect dust, lint or anything else from being in and out of my pocket all day. FYI....you can get them fairly cheap on Ebay. Just search for "Samsung Captivate Body Glove" I got a brand new one for around $12 shipped.

Ya my father has a silicone case and I know what you're talking about, its always covered in dirt and dust. There is really no problem of that with the bodyglove except for the occasional dust collecting in the usb port, but thats expected with any case.

Not if you close the USB port cover.
This was the first case I picked up when I got my Captivate in July. Since then I have gotten other cases by Seido and Otterbox but I always come back to this one. Has a more substantial feel to it and doesn't add much bulk. Very nice case.
I think this case is really good cause you have a lot of space to press the volume button and to slide the charging thing. Definitely a great case. Got mine for about 13-14 dollar on the internet.
Sent from my phone
How easy is it to get the phone in and out of this case? I often put my phone in a Samsung dock at night. I had one of those hard shell cases, but they are a ***** to open so I pitched it.

It's not to bad it's fairly flexible material but stiffer then silicone.
I had/have one of the Incipio cases and it's nice but a royal pain to get off and it's scratched like a hockey puck now. My wife bought the pink mirage case when we got our phones and I wish I had bought my mirage case sooner. Excellent case for the Cappy IMO.

[REVIEW][PICS] Nillkin Ultra Slim Hard Shield Faceplate

Today i received the case and again i want so share some thoughts about it.
(let me say it right here: this is the best case ive seen so far and i can recommend it to everyone that is searching for a very slim case with considerable protection)
ORDER
i ordered the case from Obostore. it took 7 days for shipping...quite good for free international shipping. they also give discount if you order several pieces.
MATERIAL
i expected some regular plastic case but actually it is something i would describe as rubberized plastic.
makes the phone definitively way less slippery.
as far as i can tell it doesn't attract dust.
FIT
it fits perfectly and the cutouts on the side are made well. the phone fits very tight and doesn't move in the case (like in the zenus skin air jacket i reviewed some pages ago)
PROTECTION
if you are searching for an everyday-protection against scratches and some little drops this case should be your choice.
as you can see on the pictures the top and bottom of the phone are not covered by the plastic.
but that doesn't bother me because (unlike the samsung mesh-case) it fully covers the corners of the phone.
so if it drops on flat ground it will be fully protected. (not from great hight of course)
quite hard to explain but i tried to show it to you in the pictures below.
i tilted the phone to 45° and then take a shot that is showing that there is still some space between phone and surface (light coming through).
the camera is also covered very good so no scratches should get on it.
SCREEN PROTECTOR
the case came with a free screen protector from nillkin. i don't have any reference but i think its pretty good.
(although i messed it up by having a little airbubble in the down right corner. my fault.... )
CONCLUSION
this is by far the best case i have seen or used so far.
sure there are some cases with better protection but in my opinion they often add too much bulk and mess with the great look an slimness of the phone.
so i can fully recommend this case to you!
(if you liked this review please show by hitting the thanks-button)
(and sorry again for the bad picture-quality )

I also have one, and am very happy with it, but they seem to have a minor design flaw.
Doesn't really affect the usability of the case, hell, I didn't even notice it until someone on another forum pointed it out, and I doubt I ever would have if they hadn't.
what flaw are you talking about?
(although it may be better if you never tell me )
1 of the sides did not flush well with the phone when facing up.
Looks like the cutting is slightly off will gradual abscess from top going to the bottom.
Its pretty obvious if u see it at an angle.
Only seems to be an issue with the black case
The white one I got seems to fit fine
Sorry, photos aren't very clear

I also have the one in OP but chose red instead of black. I have to say it's pretty awesome. The color looks classy and the case fits just fine.
I like the rubberized texture. Without it, I always felt like the phone was going to slip right off my hand. Now not so much. Plus it almost doesn't add any thickness (I'd say around 1.5 mm at most).
Very happy.
Be careful with unprotective cases, barely there cases and only rear protecting cases

Here it is the white one, after few weeks of usage.
h t t p://imgur.com/a/LnGKp - sorry i can't post links yet (new user)
I have the phone for 2 montsh now, but i have 2 other type of case and using a different one all the time. The first 2 week was fine, no coloration at all, but at the 3rd week the brown coloration happened, which was my pocket. And the funny part is, i am carrying it in my pocket for 40min each (work)day.
The way i imagine this case:
- hard plastic
- soft touch overlay
- some thin protecting layer
No coloration in the first few weeks, but after the ""protecting layer"" wear down, the case started picking up everything. I tried to clean it, no luck.
Lastly, i really don't know what are those pink spots, or where do they came from. (It's not the camera )
I've one of these cases too.
The first thing I did was to use my fingernail to scratch away the NILLKIN words. Took me just 2 min, and I had a perfectly blank back for the case.
How good it fits to the phone? Does this case scratch the phone?
Thanks!

I'm going to write up a quick first impressions review for it and post it up here in a bit.
Review is here.
nice job. on the review you might want to compare the prices. was the price of the HC worth it?
I paid $52 with shipping, so it was about $5 more than I got the Defender.
I might end up getting this I'm on my second defender case the first interior shell cracked in one corner and the gel is not standing up to the heat in South Florida, left it in the car a few times and the gel fits oddly now. The Ballistics don't have the gel form fitting exterior so I doubt I'll have a problem with it.
I searched on Google Shopping and eBay and I found this case for $33.50 with regular expedited shipping. It actually arrived at my house in NJ from Texas a day earlier than it was expected.
At first, I was surprised at how much bigger it was than I thought it was going to be, but then I tried it out for a few days and I got use to it. If you want "maximum" protection, I would recommend buying this case. I use the whole setup with both the rubberized and the hard case. I haven't dropped it that many times and when I have it was usually on carpeted floors and occasionally from small heights so I really haven't tested out its durability and whatnot, but it doesn't look like it's going to break or anything. The plugs for the headphone jack as well as for the charging/HDMI ports are an awesome feature for keeping dust and water drops away from the actual phone. The only part I can find that is exposed is that fingerprint/lock button. I understand why, although I don't use the fingerprint feature, so it's not too bad.
It's pretty light and the supplied swivel clip is greatly appreciated, too. It is bulky enough to make it harder to get in and out of pockets so the clip works very nicely, especially since you put the screen facing in to provide as much protection as possible. I have tested how it fits and everything and it stays in the clip even when moving around, jumping, jogging, and shaking so I would say it works pretty well. There's a screen protector on the front part of the hard case, but it's almost as sensitive as the actual phone's screen so you don't have to press much harder than normal. The one other thing I didn't really like was that the HC's bottom was too close to the phone's touch buttons along the bottom, making it slightly harder to press them sometimes. If there was slightly more space between the two as well as a little less bulk, this would be the perfect case for protection and functionality.
Still, a great buy, I must say so myself. I definitely recommend it.
So after a week of having this on my phone the only thing that I could see someone not liking is the volume keys are harder to press. You really got to squeeze on them to get a press to register, but other than that, I really like this case. I might take the phone out and run a file on the bottom edge of the top of the finger print sensor hole. It sticks out a tad, and it kinda sharp. It's only a problem for me when the phone is in my dash mount and not in any car mode. When I swipe my finger "backwards" from the normal top of the phone to the bottom, the edge catches my finger and causes misreads. I think rounding it off a bit will help with that.
I have this case, and i must say - even though its bulky, it feels great in my hands. Its not as annoying as the otterbox defender is/was. it feels much more solid and well built. Also - its certified military grade protection. I got the black/black case in the mail about a week and a half ago - havent taken it off since i put it on! The holster is much better than the Otterbox defender also!
i originally had the shell gel before buying the hardcore. all i can say is this case is awesome!
although i kinda wished the plastic inner case had the rubber port covers as well though, since the whole rubber case makes the thing too chunky for my liking.
one other thing i didnt like is the included screen protector. first, i didnt realise it was attached to the case, lol. but my main issue with it is that it kinda messes with the display a bit. not too sure how to describe it, but it has the random colour pixels that you'd normally see if you had water on your screen. im sure after a week of wearing it in, this should go away.
the thing that annoyed me the most was that for like 3 months, ballistic had a black and red one listed on their website. now all of a sudden, it doesnt exist.

Incipio Case vs. OtterBox Commuter (Thoughts on Incipio)

So, I bought the Otter Box Commuter case first sometime last year and was satisfied, but the only thing that bothered me was the fact that it covers the hard buttons and I couldn't see what I was clicking at night and mind you, I just got my DROID X. Now, I can click buttons with my eyes close, lol. Then I searched online how a lot of people were giving good feedback about this Incipio Case and how affordable it was. I was sold for it, because I noticed how it didn't cover the hard buttons, which is what I was looking for.
I bought two Incipio cases off the site, one a black on black and the other a black on red case. It looked beautiful when I got them and tried them on, I liked the black on black more, looked more sleek and a look like the otterbox commuter but slimmer, but the black and red, the red is not as royal bright red as expected to be, as it shows on the site, but it was still a cool case and it was fun switching each other from time to me. The OtterBox was thrown back to its box and stopped using it for good. After a couple months, I noticed that the Incipio case comes off from each others layer and what I mean is that the Incipio case is a two layer case, one a soft rubbery layer and the other a hard shell that goes in the outside, kind of like the otterbox commuter. So, I noticed that it wouldn't stay fit after a while, but it was no biggie at that time, still loved it and was my favorite case. After a few months, the hard shell on the right bottom corner it cracked, and I hardly drop my phone but I think I drop it in the bathroom like a 3 feet high distance, but it was a small chip crack on the right bottom corner. So, I switched to my other extra one and both had the same problem, same place and all. After a while, it got worse, it broke and it look like a tear and then it came off on one of them, the other was still good just a small crack. So, I used the other one which was in better condition and here's the best story of this review:
After sitting in my couch, infront of the tv, I put my DROID X phone with the incipio case on-- on the arm rest of the couch and then suddenly it falls to the floor flat. I was doing a nandroid back up, so I just put it there temporary and I hardly drop my phone, I really try to take care of my phone. So, when I pick the phone up from the floor I looked at it and I didnt see anything cracked and was expecting that because I have it on a case and that's why I bought it for, for protection. But mind you, it was on Clockworkmod mode which the screen is black and the text is blue so once it booted to the home screen and i try to take a pic of my puppy. I see these black spots on the center of the screen like ink colored lines then after a while, it started to spread all over the screen horizontally. The screen is not cracked but i think the lcd screen inside is and it needs a replacement.
I was pissed off and called Incipio to see what they can do for me because I could have sworn they guaranteed protection of your phone. So, I called them and they said that unfortunately they don't cover the phone itself just if the case is cracked and their is nothing Inicipio can do for me. What a piece of garbage case this is, I thought to myself. Now, I have to buy the LCD screen online and look for a repair tech which they charge me to install it is $60 plus the cost of the part and Incipio won't give you credit for anything.
Incipio warranty: Compared to Otterbox's warranty is far beyond better than Incipio's, because with Otter Box (and I've experienced both warrantys and I have both cases) you just call in and they answer fast they ask you a few questions like your address where to ship the replacement at and what model is it and phone and then voila, a couple days in the mail you get you're case without even spending any money or time on sending the defective one. Now with Incipio, you have to fill out a form online, then you submit it until it gets approved. Once it's approved, you send yours back and you have to pay for the shipping charges, no prepad/return label here and then you have to wait until they sent you a new one 7-14 days after they have received yours. You'll be caseless.
My conclusion is, if you want an eye-candy, cute case and not concerned about protection, then go with incipio is all artificial and eye-candy. If you want a good strong case, but yet stylish and sleek, go with Commuter case. Incipio cases are vulnerable to break, crack, and more. Only thing of otterbox is, hard buttons are covered and i didnt like that but i got used to it. Commuter, it feels strong safe, secured a real good case. otterbox is way better than incipio, switching from otterbox commuter to incipio is a big downgrade.
Though Incipio's warranty is lifetime in incipio u have to fill out a form online and then wait to get approved compared to otterbox is quick fast and they do all that for u over the phone without u filling anything out n u sending the case and waste shipping

I am now selling two brand new sealed incipio case as soon as I get the replaced ones from them. I am selling them for $10 each, black/black and black/red or both for $20 shipped. On their site, is $13 and on ebay the lowest one is $22 each and up. I accept Paypal, you still would have the life time warranty through me by giving you the invoice/receipt that I got from them that I purchased from them, but all they ask the invoice number and date of purchase which i still have.

Your grammar is quite good, but the plural of punctuation is just punctuation.
Sad story, sucks about your phone.

Case-Mate Barely there practically shattered

Sitting in the office just now and I had to get my USB flash drive out of my pocket. Just happened to be the pocket my phone was in. Anyway my phone took a spill to the floor, which was about 16~18 inches onto hard linoleum and it must have hit just right because this happened:

Phone came away 100% but I guess I would have expected the case to hold up better to such a low fall. I chose the Case-Mate Barely There over the TPU case because it slides in and out of the pocket easier but at $25.00 dollars a pop, I don't want to have to replace it when it takes a spill. Obviously, the TPU case would have never broken though.
I've had this case like a month or two maybe? This was actually my second one, lost the first one (lost the phone) but liked it enough to re-order another. I'd never dropped it though.
Sigh...
These cases are useless and are just for looks. There's a reason they're called "Barely There." TPU cases are the way to go.
Thinking back, I think I may have dropped my first case and phone maybe one time in a gravel driveway. It got a couple scratches, but gravel has some give to it, the hard floor in my office apparently does not.
I guess I would have figured the plastic was more impact resistant then this. I'm very disappointed in how this case held up.
Again, I realize the TPU case is basically rubber and would have had flex but I really like the thin profile of the Barely There.
I think I might have to go with the TPU case. I'm going to contact Case-Mate and send them my photo's but from the sound of their warranty, I'm SOL. The first sentence in the warranty is:
All Case-Mate products are fully guaranteed against defects in materials or workmanship.

Which pretty much is an out for providing any warranty. I would sure argue the point that the case cracking so easy was a materials and or workmanship issue though lol.

Which pretty much is an out for providing any warranty. I would sure argue the point that the case cracking so easy was a materials and or workmanship issue though lol.

They're not rubber. It's thermoplastic polyurethane. It's basically flexible plastic that doesn't shatter or tear, and you can get it in matte. For the Epic Touch, this was my personal favorite: http://www.amazon.com/Diztronic-Fle...qid=1340119072&sr=8-4&keywords=epic+touch+tpu
It's thin and sleek and matte.
I used the term rubber loosely. I know it's a type of plastic, I just meant that it has more flex to it like a hard rubber.
Anyway, I'm definitely going TPU this time around.
Now, who makes the thinnest TPU case? I remember hearing TPU-Cases (the maker) was all the rave back when this phone first came out but I'm sure other vendors are making cases now too. I've not heard of Diztronic, looks nice though.

TPU cases are the best by far, and the most reasonably priced. They're known as Dizitronic now, but they're the same brand. Definitely buy the case I linked you to if you want a similar case to what you had but TPU. You'll have no fear tossing your phone onto the table or dropping it anymore. Might want to get a screen protector if you drop it on gravel though.
I have a Zagg screen protector, yes.
I've already made up my mind, I'm ordering the Diztronic TPU case. Your recommendations and feedback sold me.
I think Dizitronic, Cimo, and generic ebay TPU cases are all made in the same factory since I have multiple cases and they are identical fit. Looking back I wouldnt pay $10 for another TPU case liek I did with dizitronic. The $3 case off ebay is just as good.
Yeah but the the Diztronic ones come with warranty and they revise them if anything is wrong and will send you a new one at no charge. In other words they put more effort into what they do.

Just look at it this way. Had you not had a 25 dollar case, you would be holding a shattered 500 dollar phone.
