[Q] If You Were To Buy A New Android Phone Tomorrow What Would It Be? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So it's almost time to get a new phone but I can't figure out what to get...iPhone is definitely OUT...I refuse to be stuck with Apple-only BS...
...so if you were going to get a new Android device (phone) tomorrow what would it be?
I mean what is a step above the EVO 4G (besides the E3D)? Is there something better than the E4G?
Was thinking about this today....definitely need something that can be freaked like the Evo 4G.....
I'm not diggin' the E3D because of the lower MP camera & I hear the 3D really isn't all that...plus I've seen some "3D" footage shot with the E3D and it looked like regular old camera-phone footage...definitely NOT impressed at all...seems more like a gimmick to me...
I hear the Nexus has "the full Android experience" whatever the hell that means...I'm guessing no carrier bloatware?
Anyway...any suggestions?

Galaxys24g touch or whatever it's called.

If your stuck on sprint I would get the 3d. It has more ram and a better processor. The development on the 3d is huge which means better roms. My roommate has a Samsung epic 4g and its a pain in the a**. Not much going on in terms of rom development and even getting a rom on it involves upgrading the radio everytime a new rom is leaked. You also have to flash pretty much everything through samsungs software instead of CWM (no amonRA on samsungs that I have seen). I would stick to HTC.
If you can switch carriers the HTC sensation looks nice.

If I had to buy tomorrow...
On Sprint, probably the Epic Touch. Verizon, Droid Bionic. AT&T, Galaxy S II. T-Mobile, Amaze.
Of all? Epic Touch I think. If only it had a metal/soft touch unibody and some actual heft...
Just remembered. Epic Touch has LOS and a couple issues right now. Dang it.

well tomorrow better be the day when a kal el device is released with a 4.5 inch HD screen 1-2 gb of ram and 32GB of internal storage.
if tomorrow was really tomorrow. probably the evo 3d just do to its familiarity and sense.

Coming from htc, odin is one of the coolest things ive seen in a while. You can still use clockwork. I upgraded to the d710 from the 3d and yes you are right the 3d has more development. Which is good because the 3d needs a lot of work where as the stock rom on the d710 is fantastic and really doesnt need any deving. The d710 crushes the 3d in speed im not sure why you're arguing the reverse? Ive been loyal to htc for years but they just aren't what they used to be. Samsung is the new HTC in my eyes.

[Q] Should I trade my D3 for Dinc 2?

I have a Droid 3 and missing the MIUI and other rom experiences. My only concern with trading out for the Dinc 2 is performance (flash video) and future support.
Any former dual core users here that can compare with Dinc 2's fluidity? The narrow screen of the D3 bugs me as well, I also like the option of free tethering which is a hassle right now with D3. I don't hog data i just like to have the option to use it. Any help would be appreciated thanks!
Personally, I think the Inc2 is plenty fast. I have no lag running Sense 3.5
Sent from my Incredible 2 HD using xda premium
Never had a 2core before but I have seen that the development section of the D3 is really empty looking without rom threads.
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
My Inc 2 is faster and smoother than my dx2 ever was
Tap'n on miui incredible 2
I have to say that the inc2 is first pick. My phone out performs most dual core. Haven't put it toe to toe yet with the razr but if it is anything like past moto phones it will hold its own.
Sent from my Incredible 2 HD using xda premium
I have never used a dual core phones, but for some reason devs stay away from them. Then again devs stay away from moto phones too. So if you want this phone for the ROMs then go ahead. But the new dual core HTC phone for Verizon looks pretty sick, and I know devs will love to make ROMs for that. If you do get the dinc 2 please compair the speed of both phones and say which one is better running the default ROMs on both. Just.wondering.

Instead of dinc 2, I would say getting a rezound is better. But of you emphasize of miui ROM den get a dinc 2.

Far from it.
Back to OP: I'd go with the dinc2, much better community, better phone overall imo. Technically, the D3 is superior, but in my hands, I really preferred the dinc2. Much nicer on the eyes, thinner, etc.
If you do trade make sure you get some money out of it. $75 -$50

I had the droid 2 global and traded up for the incredible 2...WITH no regrets at all....The incredible 2 has way more options to mod with and is a lot smoother running... Go with the incredible!

Coming from lg G2x

Anyone else? I receive my nexus tomorrow, I'm really excited but I've been putting it off...my g2x has been my favorite android device so far. But I decided I will only deal with nexus phones from here on out. Was it worth the upgrade? And I don't wanna hear I should have waited for gs3.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I came from the G2x and I love everything about the Gnex. The G2x was a great phone but mine was plagued by slow GPS lock.
The only thing that makes me miss an official Tmobile phone is the Wifi calling app. Hopefully, someone will be able to port over the wifi calling app on the Gnex.

if you think the G2x is been your favorite android device so far...youll know it was a hell of an upgrade!
I'm coming from an optimus 2x. This phone is a lot better. I rooted my optimus to get a stock experiance. But this phone knocks an optimus clocked @ 1.5 on cyanogen mod out of the water.
4inch is also to small...

I also came from g2x. It was a great phone thanks to all the devs but I'm absolutely loving the Gnex. At first I thought the slow cpu (1.2ghz ) and the old gpu wouldn't be enough but everything just works great without any lag. The screen is nice too

I came from a g2x as well. I do miss tmobile from time to time as my reception was actually better on T-Mobile than Verizon (hspa+ vs lte I mean). The lte is ridiculously fast though compared to tmobile. Overall I'm happy with this phone even though I'm on 3g most of the time.

I'll take a Nexus One over the G2x any time lol..

see mi sig i had the O2x, the P990 (european one) and was crapware compared to the epic Galaxy Nexus
It's all about 1280x720 looking at the screen on the G Nexus makes you forget about any device you had before it
My phone's resolution was 800x480 (HTC Desire HD & LG Optimus 2X - loved that 2X w/ MIUI), now it's 1280x720. To put that into perspective, my laptop's is 1280x800; that's 80 more pixels, because of the 16:10 aspect ratio, instead of the 16:9 commonly used today.
Get the Nexus. You'll love it. I can't wait for a stable MIUI Android build for this baby.

Is the Galaxy Nexus worth buying?

Right now, I have the HTC Vivid. It's a great phone, but the development is absolutely terrible and I don't see it getting better any time soon lol. I've had my eyes on the Nexus for a few weeks but still don't know if its worth buying. My Vivid is worth about $200 used, so that leaves $200 more dollars to buy a new one from the Play Store. I'm only 15 and am not old enough to get a job so this is a large investment for me! I really like the development of the nexus as well as the AMOLED screen! Please comment your opinion phone and what you think I should do below!

I just got in touch with someone who will buy my Xbox for $300 so I will most likely have the money, but is it worth selling my Vivid as well and only having the nexus?

Also, I have the phone running Virtuous, an ICS ROM, so it pretty much is the same as the ICS on the nexus so getting pics isn't a big deal

Go for it!
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
Alright, if my buyer for the Xbox does purchase, I'm getting it Also, how good is the screen on the Nexus? My Vivid's qHD screen is fine, but absolutely TERRIBLE when looking at it outside. It's so bad, that outside, at half brightness, you can't even see the screen!
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
Really depends on the phone you're coming from, I had an LG G2x, which the Tegra 2 cpu was great and handled mostly everything fine, but the lack of RAM, bigger screen, and no open source drivers had me looking at the One S, but the GNex is more of what I like.
Anyways, definitely go for it. AMOLED screens in general are known for their outdoor visibility, and this one holds up perfectly. Just make sure you get an anti-glare screen protector if you decide to buy one.
I too am wondering if I should go for the Galaxy Nexus or the Samsung Galaxy SII? I have a HTC Amaze, but I am just ready for something different than HTC. I have had them for over 2 years now.

Imo the biggest advantage of a Nexus phone is the software that comes directly from Google. No need to wait 6 Months+ for bloating up Software with Apps you usually don't need or can install separatley. And you don't have to worry about buying a 500$+ phone and don't get the mayor update Google announced 10 months after the phone was released because the follower is already released and only the follower will get that update (gratz Samsung for your SGS behaviour)
Buy one!!!!! I never realized how much I would love this phone until I purchased it on launch day. With a ROM, kernel, and 4.0.4 radios, this phone pretty much won't be obsolete for a damn good amount of time.

I should say go for it!
I came from a sgs2, then got a HTC one x, sold it because it was just a little to big for me. Now i got a Nexus. I love to root and have custom roms. Now I have my nexus, the only question that remains is: why didn't I buy a Nexus phone earlier?
You'll love it!

Don't get it if you are on Verizon unless you are okay with delayed updates. Otherwise, I is a really simple and wonderful phone to have. If you are a rooter/from junkie, then don't worry about Verizon.
And MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A REALLY GOOD INSURANCE PLAN!

Yes yes yes - but not with LTE
I have the google HSPA+ Nexus. I cannot believe I didn't buy it earlier. (Well, I can, because it was originally about $700..)..
Anyway, this is the best freaking phone I have ever had. In the last few days, I've watched two full-length movies on it. I've NEVER done that with a phone before.
The performance is great, the UI is great, the hardware is great, and (at least for GSM), the battery life is phenominal.
Would I like an 8mp camera instead of the camera it has? Sure. Have I taken GREAT photos with the camera I have now in the Nexus-- yes. This is a nice-to-have for me, not a deal-breaker.
Having an unlocked stock google OS is great, by the way.
Anyway, I could go on and on. The bottom line, it's worth it.
I just found a guy the XDA market selling his white GSM Nexus for $420 shipped! Hope its worth it. It seems kind of scetchy with paying via PayPal. I will include the link.

Ok, my order for the SG II did not go through for whatever reason, so I can go either way now. I am coming from a HTC Amaze, and the development over there kind of has spuddered. I am ready to try something different, having had HTC devices for over two years straight (MyTouch 4G (great), and HTC Amaze (ok)).
I am ready to go Galaxy Nexus, but the biggest concern to me is data speeds. I have gotten 18Mbps down on the Amaze. It supports the HSPA+ 42? Has anyone seen those speeds on the GSM Nexus?

If a person has the THOUGHT of owning a Galaxy Nexus then it is obviously worth buying because it is still relevant to them. Nexus devices are relevant for a long time, even past one year or even two.

looking at switching from GS2 to GNEX

The Main reason I am thinking of switching over this phone is because development on the gs2 isnt really kicking anymore and I love switching thru roms on my phone. what do you guys thing about the dev situation on this gnex? looks like there is alot going on here to me.
Thoughts?
Lots of roms that are similar and some stock aosp roms that will be obsolete when ota arrives. My favorite is the codename android one. Obviously cm9/10 as well

Cant beat a nexus device and go with team baked. I believe they will be updating later today. I dont know how to share a profile from google+ but if you go to teambaked rom or teamicemods.com on the site you can see it.

I came from an epic touch 4 G and never looked back I love the Galaxy Nexus and can't wait to the new 1 is revealed!!
There's so much going on w/ the gnex, you can't keep up w/ it all. Always something to try if you don't like what you tried...different flavors for everybody. The only problem w/ having a gnex is you may become a crack flasher...
I hardly stick to one rom. So many to try, n most of em are frequently updated. I found the lack of kernel choices in the s2 forum.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
You'll be happy. Aosp just works on this phone. You pretty much never see a what works and what doesn't in any of the ROM threads. There's also no weird bugs or reason to flash back to stock Like to get a GPS lock or update the prl like many of galaxy s2s have to do.
Even with the higher resolution screen and different GPU the galaxy nexus still runs ICS and jellybean much smoother than the s2 in my experience. I have ran cm9 on an epic 4g touch with that my friend has. It is so much less buggy and smoother on the galaxy nexus.

Had a GS2. Screen is crap compared to GNEX. You won't be sorry. Performance is great.

My other half has a SGS2. I personally think the phones are roughly equal.
GNexus has a better screen but the S2 has a better camera. Roms for GNexus are more stable but S2 has proper dual boot kernels etc. In terms of performance I find them about the same.
It'll be more of a sidegrade than an upgrade, but it's great owning a Nexus device and getting the latest Android updates right away.

I switched from a GS2 to the Galaxy Nexus because I wanted the HD screen.
Other than that, the experiences really aren't much apart.
The GS2 will forever have a special place in my heart as the exynos proc they used is such an amazing piece of technology.
Still, and will always remain the fastest GB phone ever produced.
I switched from a GS2 to a Galaxy Nexus when I dropped my GS2 and destroyed it. It's not the biggest upgrade, but I love the HD screen and how smooth it is. I just wish it had the GS2's camera. My only complaint.
I switched to the galaxy nexus and gave my gf my sgs2, both are great phones, I'm happy with my choice and stable ROM development is a plus

Anyone watching it? Here is the link.. They are live now.
Code:
http://phandroid.com/2013/03/14/samsung-galaxy-s4-live-stream/
Key Features
S Health
Dual Camera
Glove Friendly
13MP Camera/2MP Front Camera
5 Inch Screen/ HD
I know I might be missing some but I was pretty attracted to these features. I am really impressed with the show and how they presented the phone. I like how the phone might be slimmer then the S3 but the metal around the phone is thicker therefor making it more sturdy. Too bad I can't get anything until the S5.
Sell your s3 to the site that buy phone for 199 and buy it outright or add another line.

I think I could probabaly get another line and give someone my phone and get the S4 but I think I might just wait until the S5 comes out or with my luck with Samsung coming out with phones so quickly maybe the S6 lol
I'm hoping that Sprint gets the next Nexus. One that supports Sprints future LTE bands. I'm definitely skipping on the s4.
The SGS4 is nice but the HTC One looks so damn sexy and fresh whereas the S4 looks just like the S3. I'm still undecided what to do..
