Kill the flashing of the HOME button? - Acer Iconia Tab A100

I have disabled my HOME button following the tip in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18473677#post18473677
Now the HOME button does nothing in most programs, but it acts as a SCROLL_TO_TOP button in my browser.
But it still keeps flashing - which is annoying when I'm reading in a darkened room.
I don't know why it flashes - maybe because there are unacknowledged notifications.
Is there any way to disable the flashing of the HOME button?

It flashes when you have an email notification. Just close that notification and it will stop flashing. But I really wish they provided an option to turn that off.

@jschall
If your A100 is rooted...
If you have something like RootExplorer...
Go to /system/lib/hw
Mount the dir as r/w
Now rename this file: lights.vangogh.so
to something like: lights.vangogh.so.bak
Reboot.
No more blinking notification light.

@donaldson:
Thank you for that tip. It worked, BUT...
while the home button no longer flashes, the screen is stuck at full brightness.
So, I renamed the file the way it was, I can live with the flashing HOME button.

Dumb question

So I deleted a few of the HTC toggle widgets from the screen (thinking i could always put them back later,) but i can't figure out how to restore them. Anybody know?
If you are serious, touch and hold your screen then follow the breadcrumbs.
I know how to add widgets to the screen. I just wasnt finding the ones i wanted in the list. I now see that they're under the settings subheading.
Thanks for your help
for me, just long-press on the screen or press the "plus" sign, and then "add widget".
scroll down to what looks like it might be a "settings" widget, but when you press on it, another menu pops up with all the toggles, like 4g, Airplane Mode, Bluetooth. Just press on whichever one you want, and it will show up on your home screen.
If that doesn't work, then you have a problem.

Shutdown menu issue

Is anyone having an issue when you push the button to pull up the menu to turn off the phone? When I push the button, the phone vibrates for a half second and then freezes. It then does a quick boot and is back to normal again. Sometimes it says 'Activity LauncherPro (in application LauncherPro) is not responding'
I'm having the same issue... Help anyone?

Hope this is helpful for you guys.

I don't found it,,
I am using Jelly Bean rom right now and I missed the home button just turns on screen. I think in JB whenever I Push home button it directly goes to home. I mean if you gave a break when reading something when You push home button the app you working on is not active anymore but it goes to home instead. Do you guys have a fix for that?

I'd like to have that too. I had it on my previous phone and liked it.
Edit: Interesting, this is the contents of my whole file, and yet only the home and power buttons do wake up the phone.
key 115 VOLUME_UP WAKE
key 114 VOLUME_DOWN WAKE
key 172 HOME WAKE
key 116 POWER WAKE
Hi, on my galaxy note 2, I don't have the seckeys.kl file. What's up with that?
Its a galaxy note 2, this mod is for the s3
This works great! Thank you for finding this mod.
I'm using on-screen navbar buttons. The home button is the ugly thing Samsung has to put it there.

WAKE: When this key is pressed while the device is asleep, the device will wake up and the key event gets sent to the app.
WAKE_DROPPED: When this key is pressed while the device is asleep, the device will wake up and the key event does not get sent to the app.
Interesting. ..can you give more detail or where to change?

When I first did this I used ES File Explorer to make the edits. It didn't work so I went back to change it back and even though I went back to the default settings the Home button does not turn on the device. So, I downloaded Root Explorer thinking that would help. The strange thing is when I go into the sec_keys.kl file to edit, it is completely blank. So, I added each line manually and then hit save and exit. But, when I go back into it, it is blank again. I assume that all of this has something to do with the home button not turning on the phone. So, what am I doing wrong and how do I fix it?

same problem, it fails to turn on the phone.
Once I do this mod it works but now everytime I push the home button, the phone vibrates and makes the touch screen sounds. Anyone know a solution so this one home button does not vibrate or make a sound when pressed besides turning off vibrations and sounds for the whole phone?

Home button behavior w/ jb & no lock screen

I don't use any lock screen and I always use the home button to wake my phone up.
Since official JB, the home button not only wakes the phone up but it closes the app I'm in. Example : I'm browsing something on chrome, the screen turns off bc of timeout, I wake the phone using the home button and I see chrome back but immediatly it closes down like if I had pressed the home button again (but I didn't). The same behavior does not happen when a lock screen is enabled.
I tried searching for an answer and tried the solution of editing the .kl files in system/usr/keylayout by adding WAKE_DROPPED or replacing WAKE with WAKE_DROPPED for every occurence of the home key (key 172) without luck. I tried fixing the permissions in CWM and I made sure the permissions are rw-r-r.
Running stock rooted with CWM.
Any other ideas? Thx!
I'm also curious about this. My temporary fix was to unfreeze S Voice in Titanium and then enable the double press of the home button to start S Voice.
I'd rather keep S Voice frozen and still keep the same behaviour of the home button in ICS.

Yes that does work indeed. However, it brings back the lag when pressing the home button. I'm also using home2 shortcut for some shortcuts and it completely breaks them!
The same problem arises also when you long press the home button to get to recent apps, if you have an app open in the background at that moment and you press the home button to get out of the recent app screen, it closes the app!

notification pull down bar, home, multi-task buttons not working!

So my phone was in my pocket and it was getting hot so i took it out, and saw it on the boot animation. I left it and it didn't go past this boot screen so i held in the power button to restart it, and it restarted. Only when i turned it on, my 4G plan was active, and I could no longer use the notification pull down bar. I can swipe down from the top once, but not a second time to access quick settings. Also my circle and square (home and multitask) buttons are not working, the phone vibrates when i touch them but nothing happens, only the triangle (back) button works. On the lock screen, there is no longer an option to swipe right for the camera, and double pressing the home button to activate the camera does nothing, it just turns the display on and off. I have tried putting the phone into safe mode to see if an app was causing the problem, but the problem persists, when i turned my phone back on normally, the widgets on my home screen had disappeared. I tried switching accounts to the guest account but it says 'switching to guest' and then seems to fail to switch to the guest account and quickly says 'switching to (main account name)', before returning to my main account. Any ideas, I really need the problem fixed, thanks in advance!
stock rom??
my advice if you cant fix it try to do a factory reset do it like your last resource cause it wipes all data
another advice you should always have a backup you never know when **** like this happens
Thanks for the reply.
Yeah I am running stock ROM, so strange that this has happened.
I am struggling to backup photos etc as i would usually enable usb debugging and just click and drag the folders over to my PC, but it says on my settings page that 'developer options are not available to this user', so I am having to use another photo backup website, which is annoying.
This happened to be when I manually updated from MMB29Q to MHC19J without flashing MMB29V first. Only solution was to boot into TWRP to backup my files and then factory reset.
