i have defy , new from box , tried to install CM7.1 , (after root and cwm) on loading , phone froze on google logo.
i couldnt go into recovery for wipe , so i tried reflashing it
i tried some 2.2 nordic sbf phone froze on red moto
i d/l 2.3.3 85 and 112 with fix , same all freez on moto logo
1 time only i got the phone to boot with the 233 /85 version
but after reboot again freez.
any correct way to do it ? any way to fix it ?

1. remove your battery
2. reinsert it
3. go in stock recovery by pressing power and volume down button at the same time.
4. when (!) this sign appears press volume down and up at the same time.
5.choose clear data
6.choose clear cache
7. flash any froyo rom
8. root it
9. install 2nd init (preferably 1.4)
10. reboot twice
11. install cm7.1 by choosing update (CM 7.1) from zip
12. install google apps
13. reboot
14. there you go
15. enjoy....

i reinstall battery , press vol down and power (for how long ?) usely anroid icon should be in 5 - 10 sec ...
anyhow , no metter what rom or fix i flash i cant get the phone back on , or i get logo freez or i get boot loops
cant enter recovery menu in any of the flashes.
i dont want to try 2.3.4 roms as there are no coming back from them
please some ideas

I don't think the guy has 2nd-init installed properly. Or the rooting was not done correctly. He must go into the stock recovery to perform the wipe/clear before he can proceed on flashing another sbf. I would suggest the OP to flash any froyo 2.2.2 then.
Rooting and CWM could easily get ruin if one doesn't install it properly. Next time please confirmed root is working by installing apps that required root access before attempting installing CWM. Suggesting 2nd-init v1.9 is good to start with as it fairly stable which also come build-in custom recovery.
he posted that he can not enter stock recovery. This is caused (probably) by a bad sbf flash. I would try flashing the sbf you said that you actually got to boot. A properly flashed sbf will give you stock recovery. Pull battery for 30 seconds re insert it, then hold vol- and power the phone on. Continue to hold vol- for 5 seconds or so. If you insert your battery and the phone automatically starts to boot then it is too late and you should have already been holding down vol- in which case you would want to press and continue to hold vol- prior to inserting the battery.

I have seen in the past, people who report successful sbf flashing with rsd but still no boot or recovery. None that I tried or anyone else tried to help ever got their phones to boot. You are in a bootloop after flashing a sbf because you need to wipe in stock recovery, BUT you don't have stock recovery! There is only so much that you can do without having recovery when you are in bootloop. Not to rain on your parade but I honestly believe it is some sort of hardware issue. If RSD reports that all CG md5 checksum's match after it flashes then you should have stock recovery. But you don't????? I think it is hardware
I'm begining to start thinking your rsdlite might be the root cause here.
You might need to try another PC to flash or trying another rsdlite version.
Were you flashing this in sbf format??

I thought of this too however his situation isn't the first of its kind and other people with the same problem tried multiple combo's of RSD ver #s and different pc's with no success. Plus I would think if it were RSD problem it wouldn't reports a successful flash and then verify the flashed CG md5's. But I say definitely give it a shot on multiple different computers with multiple OS's! When I was having problems with RSD I started using sbf_flash in linux with GREAT success. Unfortunately this never helped anyone else with this problem! But anything is worth a shot.

Its not seem to be h/w problem, as its a brand new phone from box....
But i took phone home, gonna install new rsd and will try on other pc.
I will post results.
As i read more ppl with same problem.
I will post later details of what i hD in the phone before, maybe someone can identify the original region and sfb phone came with

i got some progress...
i installed on a reformated laptop , new rsd 5.5
installed drivers , and tested flashing the orange 112 version.
phone is powered up after flash and goes to recovery .
i then wiped all and wait , phone is powered up.
but after about 10-20 secs it reboots.
i then wiped again , and flashed nordic 2.2.2 version.
phone is powered up , also recovery and wipe.
phone kkep rebooting after few secs from full turn on.
i can access menu .
i guess this is better then not booting and no recovery.
what should i try now to fix the reboots ?

hmm. just seems weird that RSD would flash successful, verify CG md5s as "match" after flashing and still be the cause of the problem. I guess stranger things have happened! CRAPPY MOTOROLA SOFTWARE

well , from old razar motor crapy phones , had weird flashing problems , try flashing newer/older or different from original soft phone will not boot , go back to original soft , all is o.k ...
only flashed 2-3 defy , so i cant say its a weird problem for me , thought rsd did flash the files , and only phone freez after reboot.
but funny is now , after phone is booted and rooted again , installed cm7 again , and lol phone froze on google again (dejavu)
btw ,on recovery (stock) i getting all the time

How to fix it:
Download this SBF and Flash it
Root your Phone
Download 2nd Init 1.4.2 and Install ClockworkMod Recovery
Download and install this Nandroid Backup
Enter Recovery, Wipe Data/Cache
After wiping, turn off your phone
Turn it on and get immediately into Bootloader mode
Flash this Fixed SBF
Delete Data/Cache again and reboot.
You WONT be able to install full SBFs of any Éclair or Froyo since these Androids have lower CG Versions.
**NOTE*: I just rephrased the original post since it can be a bit confusing, it is linked as source below.
**NOTE2**: If you are using a non-Chinese defy, DO NOT USE THE CAMERA FLASH while on the Chinese rom, it WILL kill your LED.

How to Install CM7 after Installing a Full Gingerbread SBF: Ok, first of all do all the steps above on "Installed full Gingerbread SBF and can’t go back to another rom"
Root your Defy (Using SuperOneClick 1.7 and not 1.9).
Install SystemRecovery from GoAPK. If you install 2nd init, you'll just get into a boot loop and have to start over.
Reboot to recovery. Do a factory wipe, then do the cache wipe.
Install CM7 .Zip and then gapps zip file. DO NOT wipe again, you'll just go back to 2.2.2 CEE (if you accidentally do this, you can pick up again from step 3).

Well, after long play with it.... Something is realy weird!
No metter what rom im trying to flash, orher then the jordan one that worked, both 2.3.3 i try before now give me black screen, the 2.3.4 give me phone restart every 10 secs. And i cant seem to install cwm without hqving boot loops . ...
Ideas?
Delete all drivers and redownload and install then uninstall RSD Lite and reinstall to 4.9 ( Google it) then reboot your pc.. dont connect your defy yet do it later as its says in my little guide
then open RSD Lite and boot your defy to bootloader (Power + vol up) dont Connect defy yet.
choose nordic 2.2.2 in to RSD Lite then connect your Defy and let it install drivers.. then Press Start...
that worked for me wen i got lost and no one told me what to do soo i indprovise

My defy is bricked and all sbf files that I tried freez at the end of the boot (Moto logo or Android Logo, depending on the sbf file).
Here is the history:
1/ Original Rom. 2.2.2 (SFR france), no backup done
2/ Flashed with CM7 BETA 5.1, No backup done. It was OK, no particular issues except with 3G. On the first reboot, the terminal froze (CM 7 logo smoothly appears and nothing more).
3/ Since, I try to reflash it with RSD lite 4.9 and several sbf file.
4/ Flashing appears to be ok but I can't boot. I obtain a nice freez at the end of the boot sequence (moto logo or android log depending on the sbf file). Anyway, The terminal is still recognized by RSD Lite and I am aware that the battery must be fully charged.
Any idea before I sell my defy as spare parts ?
Did you wipe data and cache in stock recovery (to start phone in stock recovery: power+volume down; then press both volume up and down buttons) before flashing a new SBF?

Right!! It is the first time I read that I must press up and down after I start the phone in recovery mode. Thus, I thought it was not possible to access recovery mode since I was blocked at the first step.
Indeed, I just accessed the recovery mode on the basis of your advice. I try to reflash after I make a whipe (data and cash) and get back to you to let you know whether I have been able to reflash my terminal properly.

Now I can't use my phone, because it's stopping at this logo before system. I had Cyanogenmod 7 (last nightly before RC), but when I destroyed it by this application first thing I did was wipe. After it nothing has changed, so I tried again and I flashed it with normal 2.2 Nordic but - as I "predicted" - nothing has changed again, but this time system was stopping at Android logo, not Cyanogenmod logo. I tried to flash again - nothing. The device can be charged (there appears this battery).
What should I do?

Go into the stock recovery and wipe data. Then re-flash the sbf.
I did it already, but I forgot, that I can do wipe after flashing the device I thought about it and did it - everything is working. Sorry for useless thread.

I wanted to ask at the same time. What if i can't enter stock recovery. My phone's rooted , slightly overclocked , and i can't download any apps , i can't do factory reset , and even when i'm trying to enter it , the android pic would appear with that "danger - triangle". What should be done?

The triangle IS the stock recovery! when you see the triangle with the little android dude, hit both up and down volume at the same time. This will bring up a menu that will allow you to do a factory wipe.
And another question. I've installed custom recovery , and it said that install was succsesful , but when I apply recovery boot , it just reboots my phone , or lefts screen blacked out, at which case i have to turn on my phone by removing and applying battery.

Not sure I understand the questions, but I'll take a stab at it anyway:
Since we have a locked bl, the custom recovery does not overwrite the stock recovery.
As far as I know, the only way to get in to custom recovery, is to push the vol down when the blue light goes on during the boot cycle.

If it was a first reboot after installing Custom Recovery than USB Debbug should be off...

well I read a lot about rooting and flashing custom Roms the last few days and I figured I would give it a try.
I really hope I didn't break my phone, hopefully one of you Android / Defy Gurus can help me out
I rooted my phone with Super-One-Click and that worked fine, then I installed Recovery Bootstrap for Defy from a thread in this forum (can't find it at the moment) but it is this one: "bootstrap-recovery-clockwork-mod"
Anyway, that worked fine too... I make a backup (backup/restore->backup). Then did multiple factory resets and deleted the Cache as well as the dalvik cache multiple times. And then installed CM7 off the SD card.... the first time it didn't work, and it booted back to the setup of blur... I tried it again this time activating "Fix Permissions" before install... it then worked and it booted up CM7 fine.
I then wanted to go ahead and install The Google apps from here: goo-inside.me for CM7 ... did the same thing wiping the caches and then installing off of SD card... rebooted and I get stuck with the motorola logo... which just stays there and does not go away.
I rebooted multiple times (by taking out the battery) entered recovery mode with the volume button (this is the standard android recovery) tried clearing cache and rebooting, same problem... tried "wipe data / factory reset" same problem. No matter what I do it doesn't boot past the motorola logo.
Any ideas? I read about RSDLite and downloaded a stock sbf but my phone isn't recognized by RSDLite while not booted... even in the recovery utlitiy no connection is made (USB Debugging is off I think).
Any help would be very much appreciated. I am kind of freaking out, I just got the phone a few days ago

before u turn your phone on hold vol+ key until it loads the bootloader for rsd lite
Didn't want to make the first post overly long or complicated so here a quick update.
I read somewhere else that I could get a connection in RSDLite by holding volume up while booting and entering the bootloader... that seemed to work, so chose this SBF File "JRDNEM_U3_2.21.0" from and developers and told RSDLite to flash it... it said complete...the display then turned black... and now I don't have any image at all. It is still found in RSDLite but nothing happens when I boot... and I don't even see the logo anymore.
Now I will definetly stop trying until someone here can hopefully help me.... it seems like me trying by myself is only making things worse
Please tell me there is still hope for my Def.

When the red M logo is on the screen the led should turn blue for a few seconds, at this point press the Down Volume key & you should then go into ClockworkMod Recovery. I would try clearing the cache from there or maybe even doing a factory reset.
you will probably have to flash stock and start over

I already tried that, like I said it didn't start the ClockWorkMod but instead the standard Android recovery Utlity which only has limited options... but now as I have described, the problem has gotten worse... I can't even get in there anymore after flashing with RSDLite.

I took the one listed for Germany. My phone isn't branded so I tried to flash it with the sbf that seemed to fit.
Can you tell me exactly how I can do this correctly?
I may be doing something wrong with RSD Lite... but slowly I am really affraid I have bricked my Defy for good

That gives me hope... the problem is I can't press vol- after flashing... the screen just stays black... I can reflash it and I get white writing on the screen "Updating SW" but when its finished the screen just turns black again... and neither Vol+ nor Vol- during boot does anything.
Any further advice?
try another sbf the one ur flashing isnt the right one

Until then I guess it can't hurt to try various sbf files to see if one works.
The only thing I am afraid of, is that my battery will dy during the flashing... is there a way to charge the battery in my current state? Or will it only charge when Android is booted?

I have tried some of the sbf files... and tried this one: JOREM_U3_3.4.2_177-003
that seemed to work, at least I got the logo back and could enter the Android utilities... and it seems like it is booting up blur right now... wow... what a scare.
Don't know if I will try to move to CM7 again anytime soon... I don't know what went wrong since I tried to follow tutorials.
But again thank you for your help.. I will update here again when I know for sure that everything is working

I just did mine last night and at times it was a little scary, being the 1st time I had tried to flash a phone. I followed these directions to a point.

When I got to the point where CM7 RC1v2 was installed along with Google Apps I then rebooted and let it all start and create all the necessary caches. I then flashed the nightly from the sd card.
I did NOT do the 3g stuff mentioned in the instructions, There is an app that will let you set your baseband for your country in the app drawer called Defy Baseband
i know what your thinking, not another bloody rsd lite wont recognise their defy. but hold on a second. i have literally tried everything. ive had to start using the macgyver hack cuz i drained the battery. im running rsd as an administrator, ive tried putting my phone in bootloader and as per the rsd user guide just with m logo showing. ive downloaded the driver software and reinstalled that. i have searched many threads and seen lots of people who's phone has been recovered but for some reason none of these seem to work for my phone. this all started with a basic slip of the finger. i had just installed miuiandroid on my phone and was going to make a backup, just in case. i know, ironic huh. i shut the phone down and went to reboot but held my finger on the vol up instead of down and got put thru to the bootloader. i pressed the power button to turn it off to start again but it just went blank. i pulled the battery and found myself stuck at the m logo. please can anyone help me save my defy.
Since your phone is not booting you have to reinstall the system using an SBF file. Hope you didn't flashed an 2.3 FULL SBF cause it's a bit harder to go back to Froyo (it's impossible to return via Froyo SBF flashing), but if you'll use the search function you'll find some threads with detailed steps to follow.
Now going back and assuming you didn't flashed a FULL Gingerbread SBF: from what you've wrote above I understand that the Defy is not recognized by RSD while your phone it's showing the M logo, which means you are not in bootloader mode. To enter into bootloader mode you have to turn off the phone and then hold down Vol Up + Power for few seconds then you can release them. Now on your screen you should see "Bootloader 09.xx – Battery OK – OK to Program – Connect USB data cable" which means you are in bootloader mode.
Before you connect the USB cable you must ensure you have installed the Motorola USB drivers on you computer. If you didn't did this part then do it now and after that you can plug the Defy and start RSD Lite (try to use a most recent version ... at least 4.9). If you previously installed the drivers you might wanna remove them, install CCleaner and do a cleanup then reboot your PC an reinstall the drivers to be sure this is not a driver issue.
In addition it's strongly recommended to do a full wipe from stock recovery (start phone using Vol Down + Power button) before flashing the SBF. If for various reasons you cannot access Custom Recovery then you can try to flash the Froyo SBF and after it will be fully flashed and your phone will reboot and will get stuck at the M logo you can try to enter the stock recovery and do a full wipe as it should work now. After this it should start, unless you've installed an 2.3 (leaked Gingerbread) FULL SBF and your phone won't start unless you'll flash the same SBF, because direct downgrade (by flashing a FULL SBF) it's not possible.

Hi guys,i ve been looking for thread with this problem specific for MB526, but i have not found any, so i created new.
I had to flash stock sbf, because i wanted to send my phone to servis (its still in warranty). After few days i changed wallpaper which was has high resolution, and mobile become immediately frozen and reboots , and stuck on M logo. After that i tried to reflash the same sbf 3 times, but still same problem, booting stuck on M logo. I think its nessesary to wipe all data , cache - do factory reset. But there´s no way to do this because phone wont boot up, and i have no bootmenu , or anything installed. Also everything got much worse when i tried reflash phone with another sbf, and RSD wrote that flashing passed. Now theres no M boot logo,no recovery... theres nothing after powering up, and now i cant flash nor the stock sbf, which worked at the begining :/.. But RDS is still showing OMAP3630. What can i do now ? :/ Sorry for bad english.
hold volume down button then press the power button. At the android with exclamation mark screen, press both volume buttons at once and then you should be in stock recovery..where the full wipe should be done (before sbf flashing...).
Let's hope that you did not empty your battery... If you did, I don't recommended the McGuyver method: get a pin wallcharger or a friend's battery.
And lastly, go easy on sbf flashing.. Defy is almost impossible to brick [thank you locked bootloader] but sbd flashing can lock you in an undowngradable state...
