[Q] Is there a way to toggle 3G? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I have extended controls and i've tried several others like it but nothing seems to have a toggle to turn 3G off. 2G/3G toggles don't work and neither does turning off mobile data (APN), I guess that's for GSM networks.
At work i get really poor reception and I'd like to be able to toggle 3G off (turn data off) to save battery.
Thanks ahead of time!

Are you rooted?

Yes i'm rooted, running starburst 1.6

Not sure if this is the one that you already have but turning off data works perfect for me in 1.6.

In the market, it's a widget, it's free, and it's called Data Enabler Widget, it works good on our devices

Here is my solution with launcher pro. You can do an activity shortcut with AnyCut and test the Various DATAs for the one that allows for the selection of Hybrid/CDMA/EVDO. Launcher pro is a little more detailed in it's selection process.

I currently use Widgetsoid which can control many things but if you want just a 3G on/off toggle, I know that Data Switch does work with our phones, I've used it before.

CM7 Nightlies and camera/wifi question

I'm running CM7-21 and I have two questions.
1) Is there any resolution with the dark front camera? The back works great.
2) I read that I need to set my wifi to never sleep (or I have to reset the connection). This works great, but won't that kill my battery?
Thanks all

1) Not really. It's a bug that's being worked on.
2) Yes, so only turn on WiFi when you need it
To elaborate on #2. It will only kill your battery if you do not have wifi signal. Wifi takes less battery than 3g so being connected to wifi will use less battery. But if you have wifi on and leave the wifi signal it will keep searching and drain your battery.
Thanks. Hopefully the wifi will start waking up automatically. If I keep it at default, I have to toggle it off than on to work.

APP QUESTION (Toggles)

1) Since i have had my evo 4g i used SWITCH PRO WIDGET. The widgets look amazing and they are the only ones that i have found with a working mobile data switch
But since ICS they do not work and force close, is there an alternative set of matching toggles that include a data switch?
anyone know of a good mobile network toggle?
i cant stand my battery draining when im not using my phone... the mobile network toggle literally is clutch..but i cant find one that works with ICS
Try widgetsoid from the market, has a ton of toggles and you can even place it in your status bar.

Turn data off by location?

I was wondering if there was an app that would turn your data off by location(kind of like what Llama does for ringer volume), or maybe time periods? I want my data off at work since it sucks anyway, so I can save more battery.
The app is called locale I tried it a long time ago and it worked but drained battery bc of gps https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.twofortyfouram.locale&hl=en
I use a widget called data enabler that is a simple 3g toggle. Works fine in GB and ICS https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.data.enabler
Try Tasker.

WiFi automatically turns on when plugging in USB

Why does this happen and is there any way to stop it?

Go to:
Settings/ more settings / mobile networks / CONNECTION OPTIMIZER
then uncheck the box and that will disable the Wifi auto-connection. Hope that helps. I have the same issue the day i got my phone. =)

YES! Thanks, Jeff! I am using Tasker to turn all data connections off at night, but when I plugged it into the USB, it turned WiFi on and I kept getting alerts throughout the night. I understand the principle, but that was annoying.
Good ol sprint doing anything they can to get you to use wifi instead of thier bandwidth

well, wifi uses a lot less battery than 3g and way less than 4g. the optimizer is a good idea, but just works terribly.

[MODS] Do any of these exist yet for the Note 2?

I would love to find these mods (preferably in a flashable zip) either in a ROM or that I can do myself.
1. Force roam (roam control doesnt even work)
2. 1X/3G mod (I know the ultralight ROM has this but it appears to be the only one right now that lists it)
3. Deactivate security admistrator permissions for exchange email account
Coming from an EVO LTE and previous HTC devices, I miss these mods dearly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

By default Sprint has configured the signal notification to display "3G" even if you are in 1X RTT mode. Developers create a modification to add back the 1X symbol in the notification bar that will show when you are connected to true 3G EVDO or 1X.

There is a menu to change radio modes ie cdma, lte only....

awww. i noticed that. i thought it was a bug because i'm running the sprint os on my uscc note 2. thought the way i fixed it killed that. now i know! i'd contact the dev who has that feature in his rom and ask how he did it. i would very much like to know!
So I looked into the 1X/3G mod and I figured it out. I packaged it up and it's flashable. Works on any LK8 ROM.
http://d-h.st/96O Modified and tested personally. Back up just in case. Or not.

One user reported it failed during flash. Although I tested it and it works fine for me. So let me know if that works okay

I would like to see the the mod that when you hold the back button it completely shuts down that current app you are on. That was one of the best mods I had on my old evo.

What I have noticed with the Sprint ROMs on my phone is the 1X/3G handoff isn't really working so much. If 1X is available and there's no 3G is shows. If you go from 3G service to poor 3G it won't handoff to 1X like it normally should. Not sure if that's a bug between the OS and my radio or just the OS since I'm again running this on my US Cellular Note 2. But in the end if does show 1X with that mod. Just need a fix for the 1X/3G handoff.
I fixed up mine a while back and see it on 1x at various times. I assume your fix was just flipping the min3G boolean in the system ui apk.

I actually modded a smali file. Didn't realize the bool had that option until after I had done it same results though.
