[ROM][2 NOV] Virtuous Codename: Trentacinque Beta 2 - G2 and Desire Z Android Development

Virtuous Codename: Trentacinque Beta
Maybe some of you already saw on Virtuousrom Website that I was able to leak some screenshots of the new Virtuous ROM. But now I was able to leak a complete build from them *lol*
But now to the "real" stuff:
The rom itself is based on the Runnymede RUU 1.05.401.4. After some days with trying to make this build really stable we still need to say this rom is still in a early build state. So be aware that there will be some problems left. Also there aren't any tweaks at the moment in the rom. We first want to make it stable and then begin to add some nice features.
As you maybe already saw we have no name for the rom at the moment. Therefore we started a thread in our own forum where we got a lot of suggestions for it. We will now try to pick up the best five suggestions and then start a poll here on XDA.

[GUIDE] How to set up a SD swap partition
This guide will walk through how to set up a SD card swap. SD card swap allows your SD card to become a place where your physical memory can become virtual memory thus helping free up more physical memory . This is most likely needed in 512 mb devices running Virtuous Unity. This guide has in mind that you have knowledge of ADB. If not you may follow the alternate way, but I have not personally tried that way. If you would like to know more about ADB and how to set it up please go to ]this guide by theunlockr.com: http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/.
*Please back up everything on your SD card before going forward, I’m not responsible if you do not follow this step and loose everything on your SD card or if your phone is killed in anyway.
* Please Upgrade to Clockworkmod to 3.0.2.6 or newer before making the partition
1) Please boot into Clockworkmod Recovery (CWM, CWM Recovery). Once there go to Advanced-->Partition SD card-->Ext and Swap partition sizes. You will want to pick 128 mb for ext and 256 mb for swap partition.
2) Reboot into your ROM and place this http://dl.dropbox.com/u/32936737/swap_enabler.sh script into the root (not with in any folder) of your SD card.
Once there you can go two directions. Direction A is through ADB, Direction B is through the terminal emulator.
3a) Type these commands in the command prompt:
Code:
adb shell
chmod 755 /mnt/sdcard/swap_enabler.sh
sh /mnt/sdcard/swap_enabler.sh
3b) Type these commands in the terminal emulator (You can find this on the market)
Code:
su
chmod 755 /mnt/sdcard/swap_enabler.sh
sh /mnt/sdcard/swap_enabler.sh
Please reboot your phone after the script is done
4) Verifying that it works. Please choose 4a if you used ADB and 4b if you chose terminal emulator.
4a) If you’re using ADB type these lines in the command prompt
Code:
adb shell
free
4b) If you’re using terminal emulator type these lines in the emulator:
Code:
su
free
If you did not get a bunch of 0s that means it is working, Congratulations.
__________________________________________________________________________________
The following code will not update partition tables on sd card, it will just switch off the swap in the system
If you want to do this enter these lines in the command prompt (If using ADB)
Code:
adb shell (skip if you're already in adb shell)
sh /mnt/sdcard/swap_enabler.sh disable
If you want to undo using the terminal emulator do
su
sh /mnt/sdcard/swap_enabler.sh disable
Code:

I never get many sms on my vison, in fact i never get any. So i have been unable to test this.
There really is not much that we can do about the missing sms issue.
How ever i'm finding that with swap enabled sense 3.5 seems to be a lot more usable than 3. So maybe it will be less of an issue. Currently ghostly is not included but can be found in the market if required.
Also there is no graphical corruption on non htc widgets when using swap.
I look forward to hearing your feedback.

It made me happy. Thx.

Finally !!! me happy too...hope this as good (or better..i m sure it is) that VU 2.39...awesome work guys !!

so, any comments on this one?
@OP Will the further updates require full wipe ?

Been testing for a couple of hours now, and here's my findings:
1. Had hot reboot in setup screen (entering twitter account details)
2. Cursor randomly left text boxes during setup (no issue after)
3. Trackpad wake is missing
4. In OC/UV Beater, lowest OC available is 245mhz (is 122mhz in Unity)
5. as above, lowest UV is 800mv (was 700 or 750 in Unity?)
Good points vs Unity:
1. Swap doesn't corrupt widgets, seems to work perfectly (saw 140mb free ram)
Everything else i've tried works well, smoothly, and responsive. It's a DD for me, and a lot better than some other roms out there!
Nice job!

Thank you for the feedback.
One of the issues we had with the last release of Unity was that people were experencing random reboots caused by the default UV, being able to go as low as we allowed was not good for the majority of devices. So the lowest options that were available have been raised.
Trackpad wake is a feature that we will add soon.
There are a few issues with text input, that we know about inculding the issue you have.
And hopefully the reboot wont happena again.

hmm this looks interesting gonna try it out and report any errors back... last 3.5 rom i used when i was in a call made my phone burning hot... hopfully that doesn't happen here.

Ah, i see. Could i suggest that the lower OC/UV settings be made available as a separate patch for people with devices that can handle it? (with a big warning saying that installing this patch isn't recommended etc)
Then most people would be stable, and the lucky few can have silly underclocks for better battery life at idle.
Thanks again

So far it works well! Good job guys!

[ROM][26.07.10] >> [email protected]_2.2.0_5_os << [AOSP/NO SenseUI] [codename: Be My Hero]
As mentioned in my sig., I don't mind appreciation.
Just mention your xda handle while filling in the donation form. Thanks to everybody who contributed.
Specific/Unique Features:
- Available localisations: English, Polish, Russian and Japanese.
DON'T ask about support for other languages; should need be, download any of the locale utils on the market
- JIT, A2DP, OpenGL
- The Tasty Bits:
I've been wondering about a few aspects of the android build system, and what I have found confirmed my suspicions;
In order to minimize build-system fragmentation, and what goes with it, maintenance, most of the code is built for compatibility instead of performance.
That is why I have tried what has, to my knowledge, never been done before on Hero-like devices (dream, sapphire, eris and the rest).
Some code breakage happened along the way, but that was to be expected.
Nethertheless, the new [email protected] is built with that specific spirit in mind. Be aware, that this is HIGHLY experimental, but the latest user tests confirmed that everything's good.
GIve it a spin and leave some feedback, if you find anything out (really) of the ordinary.
This is a peel-the-skin-feel-the-bones naked version of the regular [email protected] ROM (which is mainly geared for my personal use). Bug submissions and/or constructive criticism is appreciated, but DON'T bug me about missing features.
Custom kernel.
performance tweaks
native loopback support (along with crypto)
network fixes (wlan, bridging, *tables, tunneling, etc)
utf8 (have to rebuild system apps though...)
ext2, ext4 (be aware that journalling is overkill for a 528MHz CPU)
alsa
Power savings
and others...
Is it stable? It is enough for me.
Play, test, and help out.
Issues/Bugs/Fixes:
- Force Closes
FIX:
>>> You'll have to pull the files with adb and repush them (push the odex FIRST, THEN the apk)
- Camera isn't working atm.
- Your Hero is stuck at the bootscreen, bootloops, random crashes:
FIXES:
>>>Make sure you have AT LEAST Radio version 6.35.09.26 (recommended: > 6.35.15.01 <) Click to download
>>> You might be the unlucky owner of a Hero unable to handle exotic freqs like 19 MHz/748 MHz. If such is the case, go back to recovery and flash > THIS < kernel.
RTFM:
- The ROM isn't signed most of the time. You can get by this issue by
1: installing the excellent > Clockwork Recovery <
How to install: # adb push recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.1-hero.img /cache/rec.img
# adb shell flash_image recovery /cache/rec.img
or
2: use the Engineering SPL
or
3: sign it yourself (google for autosign - you need to have android SDK installed)
- It WILL take quite a while to initialize after flashing (a few minutes).
- You MUST restart after the first boot (sys. init.), otherwise the system will work at a crawling pace, since all apps are running, due to being initialized at first boot. The cruising performance will be reached after you setup your system and restart.
You might experience problems signing in, in case you don't restart (or you can disable and re-enable mobile network).

Benchmarking (Linpack:Neocore):

Will try out tomorrow, nice to have another Dev here. Welcome!
Great to see u in this forum sir.... android is just so much better than winmo
Thanks for the ROM
Welcome to the Android world!
Great to see (another) big name from the WinMo section in here .
Will be trying out your stuff for sure!
Quick question (no, didn't try your ROM yet, still playing around to get MCR 2.9 working ok):
You removed all but en_US you say. Also the dictionaries for the HTC_IME? I want everything on my phone in english, except the messages that I type , so it would be a shame if those dictionaries were gone.
If they _are_ gone, can you explain me which files so I can try putting them back myself from a stock ROM / MCR ROM?
(Another one actually: Did you find it hard to dive into building ROMs and customizing for Android?
With years of Linux experience I thought it was the first thing I would be doing with my 1st Android device... but it seems I played around with WinMo builds, packages, NK.exe's, ROM/SYS's for so long I'm stuck in my ways . Didn't touch anything from the SDK yet except adb.exe and fastboot.exe to flash.).
@dipje:
1: Dictionaries are untouched.
2: Customizing is a much more pleasant experience than with WinMo.
As a matter of fact, I just got my Hero device, and need to build up an Android modding knowledge (Android-specific).
Linux-specific knowledge is not a problem, since I'm an admin.
I'll be taking care of different aspects of the ROM in the long run, rebuilding and optimizing bit by bit:
base apps, kernel (I find it pointless, most of the ROMs use quite a few init scripts - even in the initrd, instead of consolidating...)
I have an idea about installing debian (arm) on android, chrooting into that, and building the android system from there.
No need to setup cross-compile toolchains on our x86 PCs (try that if you've run into problems setting a toolchain on a host PC).
^.^
Though we'll be limited to 528Mhz and ram... But hey, if you've got a big sdcard, just setup a big swap on it.
;]
Apart from that, we can have a nearly full blown linux distro running at all times on the Hero (which would negatively impact battery life, but hey, it's just for the fun)
An ad-hoc wifi would be setup at all times, + sshd (along with vnc?)
So we can always X-forward our display or whatver.
The ideas an possibilities are endless.
Hi,
will definitely try your ROM. Glad to have you here! Good Luck!

Looks like the repo I was using included some warez.
Will be removed and I'll add another task manager.

Sorry, missed that message!
To get odex from APKs, you use dexopt-wrapper.
To put odex back into APKs, you use the smali project - http://code.google.com/p/smali/.

Hey Paul.
I was a bit surprised at the lack of feedback, but thanks.
;]
Updates:
1: added a few screenshots of the new wip build (not yet uploaded)
2: replaced Advanced Task Manager by the quite good tasKiller
3: recompiled kernel; a few kinks to iron out, like adding the wlan module and splash, but other than that, it's fast.
Added support for a few more fs (like ext4)
Here's what you get:
sysfs
rootfs
bdev
proc
debugfs
sockfs
pipefs
anon_inodefs
oprofilefs
tmpfs
inotifyfs
configfs
devpts
ext3
ext4dev
ext2
cramfs
ramfs
msdos
vfat
iso9660
nfs
nfs4
cifs
udf
yaffs
yaffs2
rpc_pipefs
Added a few network features like net bridging, proper unicode support (though it has to be configured in the os itself; didn't check if the system libraries have utf support)
raid also was added (in case someone wants to play with ROL/RON - Raid Over Lan)
The new kernel will be available with a new [email protected] build.
Yees, glad to see another great rom cooker for HTC HERO community. Really a good news.
Good luck
silly question
Why does the firmware version say 2.0
Please, upload somewhere else.
Thanks adwinp,
Downloading now. I will run it for a while and feedback to you my comments.
So far everything looks to be working well after upgrading from MDC 2.9 without a wipe.
Not sure I like the transparent lock screen. I tend to use the default HTC scene with with the 4 icons along the bottom of the screen. When locked, the text on the icons can be seen and makes things looked a little confused.

NK Update
NK update is just a new boot image with the kernel I have compiled from Behnaams kernel source. It enables overclocking the device to 710MHz using overclock widget from the market (not included) and hopefully should fix some stability and battery issues, but read more on the kernel itself for info.
You don't need to wipe or anything, just copy to your SD and from recovery, flash the 21NK.zip.
I'm not sure if I have set permissions correctly for the new wlan.ko module that has been compiled for use with this so let me know if wifi doesn't work. (if not, a simple "chmod 644 /system/lib/modules/wlan.ko" should fix it.)

Battery life was too horrid, so I switched to the Legend Build, I'm happy to release the final NeORoM1.3c which was never publically released on the understanding the re will be little to no further support for that build.

Very nice ROM.
Mostly translated Menus (german), not like the Eris leak.
Its nicely fast and more apps are running stable as in VillainROM 3.4.
I found a little graphic bug after boot when you unlock the SIM card. But its not fatal
It is possible to remove the bootsound? I dont like that.
Oh and Swype (beta leak) is force closing. But it doesn't greatly matter.
Edit.
Here is the little bug
its the same when you setting up your mail account
Edit. Uhh OverclockWidget is also force closing. Could you fix this? would be very nice
Download link is broken . Please upload in another mirror .
Edit: Now working .

-= ALL T-MOBILE APPS WORK OUT OF THE BOX INCLUDING MMS =-
1. Download MAGLDR 1.11
2. Download CMYLXGOs.Desire.HD.NAND.Edition.v1.2n.7z from link above and extract
3. Install MAGLDR. Either put phone in bootloader mode or boot into Windows Mobile. Run ROMUpdateUtility.exe from MAGLDR folder.
4. Boot Phone and select in the menu "4. USB Flasher"
5. Run DAF.exe on your computer from my ROM download.
6. Once flashing is done the phone will reboot.
7. Phone should boot directly to Android in NAND.
What's Not Working:
WiFi MAC is fixed to 00:11:22:33:44:55
Bluetooth MAC is fixed to 50:C3:00:00:00:00
720p recording
WiFi MAC Address Workaround:
Must have Android Developer Kit installed
1. adb pull /system/etc/calibartion
2. open calibration file with wordpad. Not notepad.
3. change the line that says macaddr=00:11:22:33:44:55 to either your real mac or just increment the last digit
4. save file and close
5. adb push calibration /system/etc
6. reboot phone
You can verify that the mac has changed by going to Settings --> About phone --> Hardware information

I just tried it...here is what I do
1. Make sure SD is unmount
2. open Superclick v1.5.5
3. select 'unroot', you will see the command line keep going and then keep looping
saying cannot re-mount the read access....
4. Ignore that looping message, restart your phone, and kill Superclick
5. Wait until phone boot up, unmount SD card again
6. open superclick and select 'root' this time, you just see a popup saying your phone is rooted.
7. i did the 'shell root' and then 'allow non-market apps' also.
8. Remount SD card.
9 Wala....open titaniumbackup and it works....
Hope this work for everyone...

Thanks! been waiting for this! will try and report!
great will give it a try and report
Remeber guys...this is just a base to get the T-Mobile US crowd up and running. I am working on a BlueTopia NAND and will post it shortly...but before I get knee deep into Topiaizing it I want to find a stable base.
The most important feedback I am looking for is related to data drops. I am doing something differnt in this build that I have not done in any of my others. It's not really anything top secret but don't want to let the cat out of the bag just yet cause some people may form a bias opinion.
Happy Flashing...and Merry New Year!

I love me some xda devs!
downloading nooooowwww!!!!
BBL to report.
Well the nand flash went like pie ... easy peasy.
The build felt sluggish for me, problem was powersaver.
Many thanks dude - Good work!
Finally seemed too unstable for me, changed to MDJ in sig.
Updated: It's up and running.... Data Wifi and 3G seem to be working fine. Market download is fast. Before installing any application, original storage is 650MB available Will spend more time to test it. First impression: very smooth.
Downloading and will report back. For future ROM, would you consider leaving the TMobile stuff out (my account and visual voicemail)? we can always download those from the market. Thanks
Htc Loacations and News
Does this build have HTC locations and HTC news ?
wow!!! very quick work! Downloading now and I will report back...
Great! Will try this on.
Thanks!
Btw, how to root it??
Is the MMS going to work correctly (non-blurry pics) like usual for us US people CMYLXGO?
Instead...saying Oh Great, That is Fast, Please keep these comments to yourself, I think you can use the THANK YOU button to actually say thanks. Try it first, and then get back and write a Review. As to what is working, and what is not working....and As well you may kindly suggest to the Dev as to what you want...Plz lets keep this thing clean, so we don't waste time looking for information, or looking up for the answers.
Thanks

[ROM][Sense 2.1] Heroine ++ WWE base 3.36.405.1 [10.dec.2011]

HEROINE ++
ROM is based on default HTC Sense 2.1 WWE build 3.36.405.1
PROLOGUE
I decided to to go back in future and revisit this "old" ROM, because I got fed up of those new fancy-dancy GB/froyo ROMs which couldn't wake me up, make me miss calls, couldn't make photos or I have to wait 5 min before I can start using google maps.
The base of this ROM is default stock Sense 2.1 WWE from latest OTA update. I kept this build as close as possible to the original including odex files. Mixed with OC kernel and compcache this ROM features very high free data storage great multitasking and extreme performance. Few changes have been done to visual looking, but the rest is basically unchanged.
ROM is great for those who need a fast and stable phone for daily use and also decided to keep all downloaded apps on phone storage. But to unleash the best performance it is highly recommended to have microSD card class6+ formatted with ext4/swap partitions.
FULL LIST OF FEATURES:
Rooted and upgraded to latest Superuser 3.0.7, binaries 3.0.3 & Busybox 1.19
Fully odexed. Free phone storage after 1st boot over 150Mb
Flykernel-13 (default CPU speed @614/264, smartassV2)
Compcache (default 48968kb on swap). Must have formatted swap partition on SDcard with min size of 60Mb
Apps2sdext. Only apps are moved to SD card. Dalvik is kept on phone for best performance. Requires ext4 partition on sdcard.
Custom Desire/Slide lockscreen
Transparent dropdown notification bar
Reduced menu popup size
Custom Gmail notification widget
Friendstream and widget (Slide port)
Flipclock widget (Slide port)
Mail widget (Legend port)
HTC Hub widgets
Minor visal tweaks from Salsa & Pico framework
Custom boot animation
Boot app zipalign script
Removed Footprints. I can't believe someone is still using it. And yeah, I needed more space on system.
OpenGL 1.0. I can release an upgrade patch to 1.1 later if somebody really need it. Personally I find that v1.1 creates more problems than any good that's why I did not included in default build.
Supported languages are: US, UK, FR, DE, ES, IT, NL, PT, SE, NO, DK, FI, CZ, PL, RU
Asian character support
WHATS NEW!
HEROINE ++ feature list:
Includes all previous build patches and fixes
Custom reboot menu
Enhanced text selection in browser
HTC RSS reader and widget (Legend port)
Calculator widget (Legend port)
Cleaned mess in /bin and /xbin
Added moar widgets from HTC Hub

TIPS & TRICKS:
CPU. To change CPU speed edit file /system/etc/init.d/05cpuspeed and chose between available speeds. No need for 3rd party apps.
What is Compcache? I don't recommend to use with class4 or slower sd cards as it can reduce overall speed. But hey, you tell me. To disable compcache delete file /system/etc/init.d/08compcache or change file rights to 644. More theory crafting read here...
Battery. It might be good idea to re-calibrate battery after ROM flash. Just charge to full, boot into recovery and wipe battery settings.
Notifications/Alarms/Ringtones. You can easily add your own pack of soundtracks. For that create on sdcard folder named media. In that folder create sub-folders alarms, notifications and ringtones and copy your sounds into appropriate folders. Done. Supported formats are .mp3 and .ogg.

Original HTC Lockscreen (v2). When unlocks it pulls down whole lockscreen image.
Heroine++ de-odexed pack. It includes de-odexed version off app and framework folders. It is not a ROM or update.zip. It is for those who want to mess arround with ROM theming or other customization. To use it you must boot into recovery, do full wipe, delete app and framework folders and push these to /system. Change recursively both folder rights to 644 and folder itself to 755 and you are ready to boot with de-odexed ROM version.
Nice are you really recommending swap? Haven't tried it personally, but everyone says It's a bad idea..

Finally I seem to have found a ROM I can use every day.
I've tried all the ROMs on this XDA front page and all have problems one way or another. Very frustrating !
This just seems to work and at a nice speed.
I have been on Froydvillain for a while now but that started getting back it's gps restart bug. This has been fine so far with Co-Pilot (touch wood !)
It even tries and plays flash on the stock browser but the Hero just hasn't got the grunt.
The only thing I miss from the CM7 based ROMs is the 2g/3g direct toggle. Pity there isn't one for sense but a few more key presses versus a stable ROM is a no brainer.
Thanks Whitealien
The ROM looks nice. Thanks and congratulate on your release (one more 'new' sense 2.1 to flash).
However, my Hero is complaining of being over worked (too much flashing this few days).
Will try this ROM once I had enough of the current 2.3.7 ROMs

... along with every other 2.1 sense rom for the hero and even the way the phone came stock...
ppl tend to forget that the hero was playing full flash animations and flash games, albeit somewhat slowly, almost 2 years ago thanks to HTC's flash lite.
anyhow, this is a very cool sounding rom - I'm impressed with the concepts you've chosen here whitealien!
Although I have to say that the current release of cm7 by elelinux is pretty outstanding and plenty fast, and the fastest rom around is VE6 which is much faster than even the fastest sense roms.
still I'm going ot give this a try. seems like the best two sense roms right now are aeonflux and kimera 3, with kimera 3 being a little faster but aeonflux having more cool extra features.
Your rom though claims that fast speed but also to have one of the most useful features from aeonflux (or any legend or slide port) which is friendstream. So I'm excited about this!
Compcache is surprising... major devs have long thought it was slower than not using it. cool though, if it does work with fast sd cards!
@Habarug - well, with compcache on you gain additional 25% of RAM. But like I said slow sdcard may reduce performance since system have to read and decompress stored RAM on swap partition which takes more time than reading directly from RAM. I have class10 card
@Hero user - no arabic language support, sorry.
Supported languages are: US, UK, FR, DE, ES, IT, NL, PT, SE, NO, DK, FI, CZ, PL, RU
I am so going to use this.

I think OC CPU @710 and class6 or faster sdcard is a deal breaker, but you tell me
Personally I find it amazing be able to listen music and in the same time read news on internet, then open google maps, then open gmail and then go back to internet page where you left it without needing to reload page. And yeah, Sense always stay's in RAM.
@rdejager - I bet you will
I got FC's on pretty much everything so I reverted back to my nandroid backup. It occurs to me now though I forgot I changed my Titianium Backup datebase to a version that only works on Android 2.3+ so I might give it another try tonight.

Android 2.3 is SDK 9, this is SDK 7. Newer versions are not backward compatible with older, so it's normal to see FC's on everything.

Yeah, I realised my mistake shortly after I restored the nandroid backup. Will give this another go later.
Somehow someway, i keep getting a error message, when i try to configure gmail/market etc saying you need a reliable connection :S But my internet 3g/wifi seems to work in browser :S help?
Ahh, I've got a class 4 card, so I wont use compcache
Running this now, default settings, class 2 but fast 16gb SD card. Very quick sense Rom. Maybe fastest ever! Compcache or not, this rocks!
Nice work. Too bad Bout friendstream bug, might as well use fb and Twitter widgets separately so tap to read works.
Anyway, love it!

The rom is just awesome !! Everything I wanted in my hero since I have it. I found one bug though - facebook pictures cannot be synced with profile pictures from contacts list. Even when I link a contact to its facebook profile - the picture stays this gray one , witch is default from htc sense. Any idea why Regards - keep the good work guys.

of course I did , I did it twice - i mean - wiped , flashed , then again the same , after that I did factory resec .. witch was useless, but - the problem still exists dammit. There`s no way to attach facebook profile picture to a contact - except save it to the sd card , then use gallery to set it up. Sooooomething is wrong here

Setting up a swap partition
Warning - Using swap will reduce the life of your sdcard. Sdcards only have a finite number of R/W cycles and using swap means that the sdcard is written to a lot more than it would under normal use. I recommend doing regular backups of your sdcard as we will accept no responsibility for damaged cards or lost data.
Code:

Because the base Rom has no hardware keyboard, adding differnt languages is a challenge. We have dusscussed adding additional languages and may do so in the future
