Farewell to DInc2 - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Farewell my Incredible goodness. You've been a great stepping block for my intro into rooting and romming. You shall hold a somewhat minuscule place in my heart due to your horrible reception and even more horrible customer support from Verizon. Hopefully this next phone will allow me to not have to deal with VZW anymore. To all you Inc2 users, I bid thee farewell and good luck with future rooting and romming. Adieu!

You could still stick around LOL. What phone are you getting to play with next?

LOL, you crack me up bro.

Lol, I figured someone would post something like that. Everyone needs a pointless thread once in a while and this is my first thread without a point whatsoever lol.
@tyler, the Droid 3
And to be honest, I could possibly call this a "thank you" thread for all the rommers and modders on the Inc2 . I just can't deal with the horribad reception issues that this phone has where I'm at, which has forced me to upgrade to something that is confirmed working in my household. There are 3 other smartphones in this household and I'm the only one who can't get service. lulz

I feel that.

lol, i'm reading a lot of good things about them......plus the **** that verizon is trying to pull on me, they're letting me replace the incredible 2 in 1 of 2 ways......either 1) drop contract and pay the new contract price on any phone, or 2) since im on a 3g phone, i can replace it w/ any other 3g phone that isn't brand new and they can give me a "certified like new" phone...so basically it was the droid x2, the droid 3, or *gags* the iphone 4, i've been thru 5 incredible 2s so far lol, don't think i'm choosing another one
Edit: there's also blackberries, but i've had a blackberry before and they're great and durable, just meh, i want android for rooting and romming

I would take the 3 as well given your choices

Just wait till you go through 15 d3s.
Most ppl report bad screens, the hinges jamming or not working.
Oh and lack of development
If I've helped. don't neglect my thanks button

You should get the iPhone and flip it. You should get enough to get whatever you want. Don't settle for Motorola. I just came from an x2. The HTC is better in every way.

Did you have equal service with the stock battery, and door as the extended one you were using? I remember your post on the cm7 forums where you were talking about bad service, and i remember you were using an extended battery. I posted a reply but it appears you never seen it. I also got an extended battery and quit using it within 3 days because service went to ****.
"Actually i'm in one of the classes right now where i had a deadzone. With the extended battery my phone never had service the whole time i sat in this spot (1 hour). Sitting in the same spot today with the stock battery and cover and i have 1-3 bars (mostly 2). Coincidence? I don't think so...On a side note i don't recall having ever encountered a dead zone with my phone prior to this (had it since june)" There was also one other deadzone i encountered with the extended battery/door that wasn't and isn't there with the stock battery/door.
The battery door is the antenna for the phone. Fractal antennas are very small, and precision=performance. It seems the generic ones (providing thats what you got) have this problem all the time either due to a different style of fractal or more likely just a poorly made one. I got an immediate 70% refund without having to return it.
I hope this wasn't really all your problem was, as the inc2 is a beast phone. Not to mention you wouldn't have had to deal with vzw customer support.

Yeah, same issues with both the stock battery/backing and extended battery/backing. And I'm not going off just the bars. I'm actually going off the DBM. -105dBm is not acceptable 24/7 lol.
I do agree HTC makes some good phones, but the only one I was ever interested in was the Incredible 2. *shrug* If what i anticipate is going to happen, I'll be going through phones like nobodys business. Verizon ****ed up by buying Centennial Wireless out. We had a good company. Now we got an alright company with shoddy reps and some pretty decent phones. If I lived in the city it'd be a different issue, but because I live like 2 miles outside of town, it's garbage lol. But it was fun lol. There definitely is a lot of support for the DInc2. But it is what it is lol.

thinking of selling my bolt

You read the title. It's rooted, running gingerbread never had any issues. This is my first htc device and while it has its +'s I'm not happy with it. I've had it since may. Thinking of selling it so I can buy a bionic or tablet. I don't know what a realistic price is, but I'm thinking somewhere between upgrade and full retail.
A) This shouldn't be in accessories.
B)You'll get about $375 for it if its perfect.

Are you posting this because your soliciting offers, or do you want us to talk you back down to earth?
We here in the TB subthread are a hearty bunch who very much like our somewhat maligned smartphone
$375 would be optimistic, and definitely not including eBay/Paypal fees (google for a calculator to get a good idea of how much they take).
What is not doing it for you on the TB? Have you tried some of the slimmed roms?
Well to put it bluntly, I hate sense. Fixed that with launcher pro, but that doesn't let me use the sense elements I do like. The signal is crap (where I am), no 4g here yet. I only got it to be grandfathered in before the tiered data plans. Now that they are extended I'm thinking of other options. It's a ford chevy thing. You can argue it all day and no one is right or wrong. My droid x was more reliable in my area, and usability is most important to me.
Can't blame a man for that...you'll get no flaming from me.
I have a great VZW signal and LTE where I'm at. I completely understand where you are coming from.
Have you tried, for S&G, another Tbolt just to see if you could get better reception?
I'm with you on tiered data...I just got my girl her iPhone 4 Saturday (I could not convince her to come to the dark side...sorry..lol)
My advice is to try a replacement first before you sign off...but I understand if you do, regardless. Best of luck...
Yea a thunderbolt without 4g is nothing but a dinc 2. You really liked your droid x? I hated that phone, no matter OC or rom, it always was mega laggy throughout the UI. The hdmi out was nice though.

I will give $250 (including shipping) for it.
I know the TB has no HDMI, but what do you guys use that feature for anyway?
I went from the Droid to TB and other than the battery life I love the TB! I've got 4G in my area and get 16mb download which is simply awesome. The 3 hour battery life or 5 hour if I turn off LTE sucks big time.
When does the bionic come out anyway? Im not too crazy for moto after the X and D2 days with the locked boot loaders. Even tho there were ways around it, it still sucked. Hopefully the Bionic is not the same.
I agree, different strokes for different fokes. I had the Droid X and after having the TB, I haven't looked back once. I liked my X until I didn't. I'm in Portland Oregon where there isn't 4g either so I'm on 3g and I still would take my TB over the X. but thats just my opinion.
not trying to diss the OP but the tbolt is the most solid phone verizon carries. i mean yeah sense sucks but i just use launcherpro + the sense 3.0 lockscreen. i mean come on man there are tons of alternative launchers on the market and xda. sounds as if he just is making excuses to dump the phone.
no offense but i think you would be happier sticking to this one as both samsung & moto phones are not the best and do not get as many updates as htc phones. trust me as ive owned almost every brand out there.

i wouldn't except anything under $300 for this phone.
I'll give you a BAMFed Nook Color for it : D
Im not understanding how rooted users are getting terrible battery life. 1GHz is plenty fast for anything a phone will do leave it there and underclock it when its off, I got another 6-8 hours of battery life out of my TB and no lag what so ever.
I completely understand if you don't have 4G because if it wasn't for my awesome 4G I would have probably gotten rid of it and just waited for the galaxy s2. But the amount of dev support already for the TB has made me stick with it.
Noooooo don't selllllllll

I don't understand why ppl don't like sense. It's slippery slick on BAMF! The battery life is not that bad if not good. It's a great phone. I dont have 4g and I still happy. Just sell it and move on to whatever...
BAMF'd Tbolt w/ tapatalk
I wouldn't sell it. The bolt is just at the point of infancy with development so who knows what other ROMs will come out

I appreciate all of your input, but it's not the ui. It's the equipment. When I'm in charlotte this phone is awesome. But when I'm not its data usage is about as useful as my old lg voyager. It has a weak ant. This is my second one, rooted tried all radios and several roms. Other than the signal issue, great phone. I'm not hating, it just won't work for my situation. Once I have 4g it wouldn't be an issue, but that's not slated until mid 2012 in my area.

I'm with you on this. If you wanna sell it, sell it. You shouldn't come to a forum so strangers can agree or disagree with you on that matter. I personally wish you the best of luck in your voyage on selling the device. I'd do it sooner than later considering as each day passes by, the phone you own right now is depreciating in value quickly. Hold onto the money until the next great phone comes out. Maybe the Galaxy S2 (Function). I know I'm as lost as everyone else is about that phone's specs for verizon, but I think it's going to be CDMA only w/o LTE. I'm personally waiting for that to come out before I start thinking about ditching my bolt which works great for me

I love my dinc! But what's next?

I'm an original at&t iPhone guy who switched to Verizon about a year ago when the android finally started making me drool over its superior look, feel and operation.
The fact that its open source and has far better customization, sold me in a heartbeat. I started with a Samsung fascinate and was sorely dissapointed. The phone always had bugs and never ran properly. Even after a much awaited froyo update.
I traded my fascinate on craigslist for my dinc about 4 months ago and was very impressed not only with the lack of bugs and lagginess but also at the development that has occurred. The devs for this phone are freakin awesome!!! Thanks guys!!
Now I see dual core processors and larger screens taking over the android market as well as an upcoming iPhone 5 that, I'm sure will live up to the apple name.
My question is simple. Should I keep my dinc until its done, should I upgrade to a newer android device or should I cross back to the dark side and have apple tell me what's good for me once again? Hmmmmmmm.....
Comments?

I'm keeping my Dinc until it's upgrade time (beginning of Jan 2012), and if there is no suitable replacement (for my tastes) then I have no problems sticking with the Dinc. It's a great phone and will still be a great phone in 6 months from now.
As for switching to iPhone, that's a matter of preference. I'm a Mac user that prefers Android over iOS because iOS doesn't have the flexibility and functionality that Android does. I do think that iOS can be prettier and more polished in some ways, but the functionality of an Android phone is worth more than the eye candy of iOS.
I would say the only worthy upgrade seems to be the SGS2(if it has lte) or the Nexus 4G/htc verzion that are rumored for this fall/winter.

HTC Nexus on Verizon *drooool*
I did a long hard search and honestly there is nothing better than the DINC right now.
The Droid incredible 2 I still wouldn't take just because of the lack of development.
I'd be surprised if Verizon would allow a stock phone without bloatware all over the damn place.. I'd love if I was wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if it was still a sprint phone. Saw an article about how sprint is now going to be removing bloatware or making it uninstallable. Pretty respectable move IMO, but I can't see Verizon following suit.
actually the nexus 4g lte is rumored to go to At&t with their new 4g lte network not verizons and sprint sort of exagerates "lies" the removal of bloatware because you can only remove 5 or so apps

Man, there STILL isn't anything even being talked about to be released to consider. Disappointing!
The only consolation is that we still have one of the best phones out there.
I have incredible faith (heh heh) in our devs. Seeing as the inc2 has just been rooted and we have the 2 big boys, cm7 and Miui already available for the device, i believe ill be accidentally taking a shower with my Dinc in my pocket in the next few weeks.

What's next is called the Thunderbolt. It's got a screen bright enough to read, battery life... well, anything has batter battery life than a dInc, absolutely stupid-fast 4G, a stupid-fast CPU that EASILY clocks up to 1.6GHz, and a screen big enough for a keyboard. I lived with the dInc for a long time, longer than any other phone I've ever had. I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone can say with a straight face that the original dInc isn't bested yet. There is literally nothing that the dInc does as well, let alone better, than either the Thunderbolt or the dInc2.

Verizon gets a small incentive from the companies of the bloatware, that's why they put them on there. and i don't think verizon will ever get a nexus bone stock android phone, i really don't, here is why. Verizon isn't really out there for the consumer, they are out there for the profit. hence why, i mean at t-mobile and ATT, if you want a new phone, no problem, walk into the store, and get one at the upgrade price....in the middle of your contract.
Verizon hasn't gotten the idea of that just yet. plus like other companies, verizon does have shareholders to report to (and they aren't happy, they think the data plan changes will ruin their investment)
the only reason i have verizon is because that's the only carrier here with decent coverege, and they really aren't as bad as people make them out to be.

maybe because we have devs who already got it to gingerbread? and with that logic everyone in this country on the roads should be driving brand new 2012 model year cars, right now. people are happy with what they have and they make it better. not everyone has 500+ dollars to spend on a new phone everytime they come out.

really? there isn't much difference, gingerbread as i said above, is already on various roms for the dinc. the main selling point for the t-bolt right now is that it's a 4g CAPABLE phone. if you are not in a 4g area, you will get 3g coverege. my area won't get 4g until a few years from now. and no, i don't live in "podunk nebraska" i live in a town of about 48,500+ people.

Guess what? I had a dInc2 to play with for a week and I still have my Tbolt and I'm about to kernel up my old dInc, so yeah, I've got a hell of a lot more clue than pretty much everyone on this thread as to what I'm talking about. My dInc has been running GB for quite a while now. So has my Bolt. The dInc2 did EVERYTHING faster than the original, running bone stock firmware!
I'm not gonna make excuses for the Bolt. The firmware for that phone, and a good number of the leaks have been lousy. But, the more recent leaks have yielded absolutely bullet-proof, flowing-water smooth ROMs. The question was "What's next?". That big plate of glass next to me IS what's next. There is no question about it. It's not opinion. As for 4G, when towns like Fostoria, OH pop up with LTE, I'm thinking very broad coverage on this side of the Mississippi is clearly coming.... well before my contract is up. Hell! Even 3G is faster on the dInc2 and Tbolt, if for no other reason than they have the power to render things quicker. I'm glad people are happy with what they have. The dInc was, and still is, a solid, modern phone more capable than many devices to come after it. Too bad it looks pretty dated in light of Tbolts and dInc2's and several other phones. When I read someone write something like "I keep looking and I don't see anything that measures up to the dInc", I'm wondering how much crack they smoke. You're either insane, on drugs, or oblivious to reality to think that.

Wow man way to be a total ****. I have an incredible and my brother has a Tbolt, I can honestly say I prefer mine over it.
Besides that, although the Tbolt and INC2 *are* upgrades from the INC- for most people they just aren't worth someone's 2-year contract or full retail to get that sort of an upgrade. You've been out of the INC scene for a while it looks like.. and DEV's here are still putting out loads of stuff every day increasing performance/battery life/features -- moreso than INC2 or Thunderbolt since they've been out a shorter time. The INC2 even has issues now where if you buy it and it comes with GB, you can't even root it.
4G is extremely scarce, if you drive out 5 miles from whatever city you're in then you're out of luck as far as 4G goes. 4G is nowhere in my state yet, not even in our capitol (Richmond) and it looks like it'll be at least a year, probably more until we get it. The 3G, at least where I'm at, is fantastically good. I get 320kb/s on a good day and low 200's/kb/s during peak hours. That's enough to stream Colbert report, download movies (I've downloaded 4 so far) and watch netflix without pauses or hiccups.
So.. even if there WAS 4G in my area there really isn't any need that I get it since I don't normally watch HD movies on a ~4" screen or tether it to a datacenter.
Your opinion and mine.. but you don't need to flaunt around your phone while downing the INC (on our own forums) which is a perfectly awesome phone.

Possible Incredible Replacement?? Need Input

Well as of last night my phone had survived about 200 drops on the ground. Shattered the screen last night and am now looking for replacement options. I am pretty loyal to htc as their products have been outstanding for me so that narrows it down a bit. Also, I am staying with Verizon so that also narrows it down much more. I was look at the Incredible 2 and the Thunderbolt as my 2 options. My concern is that it's not really worth it to get a new phone at this point. The development doesn't seem as "robust" as I am used to at the Incredible forums. I know thats partially due to it being a newer device, but I also know that some phones don't take off development wise like others do and development is pretty important for me.
Just thinking out loud. Any input would be appreciated

Don't get a TBolt. If you can, wait for the Vigor. It'll blow the TBolt out of the water.

Haha yeah. HTC's keeping this bad boy close to their chest. Should be pretty awesome though.
The Tbolt has many of the same shortcomings as the dInc. Like torpid battery life. I'm a little skeptical newer 4G devices will improve battery life. The dInc2 is a great device if you don't care or won't be getting 4G any time soon. As for development, the Tbolt is going to be where its at for quite a while yet. The reason the dInc has so much development is because its very similar to the EVO. They can even share radios. You're not likely to see that again soon. Even with the huge screen, the Tbolt is better on the battery on 3G than the dInc, generally speaking. I still play with both and know this well. But if your dInc is dead and you need a new device, and you have 4G, get the Tbolt. No 4G, dInc2. I promise you'll love both, especially the battery life on the dInc2.
To me, it doesn't make sense to upgrade right now when dual cores are only a couple months away. It blows my mind how relevant and up to date the Incredible has remained. That's the only reason I haven't upgraded yet. Usually I get bored with phones after 3 months. This is going to be the first time I can actually use my upgrade discount from verizon in quite a while.

If you don't want to upgrade yet just buy a new screen and replace it. You can get them on Amazon. I've replaced my twice. Just take your time.

most higher end android phones have poor battery life from experience, even my blackberry had bad battery life if i used it in as little as 1 to 2 hour shots (streaming media nommed the battery like an anorexic cat) then again, bb isn't known for having great batteries.
and on phones, my mom had a fascinate, all stock, still had bloat, non-rooted (she doesn't want to, and i'm not going to force the issue) and every so often, it will be just sitting on her desk and the samsung warning tones will play, and she hasn't even been touching it.

That's the real beauty of the dInc2. It's not the bleeding edge. It's just the same old dInc with nothing added by a front facing camera (for whatever reason I don't understand [skepticism: all the new HTC use FFCs as proximity and light sensors; just cheaper?]). It's just been made a LOT more efficient. I tried this last night. I parked my Tbolt on the table overnight on 3G for about 9 hours... lost 21% battery the whole time. For comparison, 4G in that time frame would have chomped down 50% to 60% of the battery in that time frame. That 21% is actually better than the dInc running CM7, which is more around 35% to 40%.
My Tbolt set up is Gingeritus3D V1.0 Beta6 Sense 3.0 with Ziggy's kernel running freq_min 122MHz freq_max 1.44GHz, smartass gov. MR2 1.70 radio. That's just for reference if anyone wants to compare. I NEVER use WiFi, so I can't tell you about that.
How the hell are you dropping 35%-40% overnight? My incredible on the stock battery will drop around 10% in ~10 hours of idle time. Are you getting poor to no reception? I'm not saying the battery life on my phone is great, it drains pretty quickly when the screen is on, but sips power when idle.
10/6 is a long way to wait, and there's still possibility that the date will be delayed even longer.
Vigor does look pretty sweet, as long as the price isn't too ridiculous that'll be where I'm upgrading to. Though I'd probably wait until it's rooted too.

Yeah. I just want something that's 4G and HTC. The TBolt has been out for too long and hasn't even gotten Gingerbread yet. Hopefully the Vigor will get Ice Cream Sandwich with those snazzy specs it has. Lol

I love the Incredible and I consider it a crime to hear about one that has been killed. I would be kinda lost in your position as well but you might consider taking a minor upgrade to the INC2. I hear of people coming into them pretty cheaply here lately. On a personal note, I'm with everyone else on the Vigor upgrade in October. I believe thats gonna be one bad machine to own.

Yeah I just called and filed a claim. The broken screen really started to bother me over the weekend and I figured it would be a more wise to shell out the $50 to the insurance company and save my upgrade from verizion for a phone that I actually want(Vigor). They had the original Incredible's in stock so that's what I'm getting. Plus I get another home charger now hah.
Does anyone know if I have to return to stock before sending the device back? Will they charge me if I keep the battery?
Yes, return to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786436&highlight=return+to+stock
They probably will send the replacement phone without a battery and you are supposed to keep yours.

The Opinion Of A Sprint Employee

I actually identify with this, after coming from a Moment to a Hero to an EVO4G quickly...had that for a year, happily, then to an E3D, to ANOTHER E3D, to an NS4G, to ANOTHER E3D, considered the photon but wasn't impressed, and finally to the ET4G I agree whole heartedly.
I anticipated just jumping to the Nexus Prime ASAP, but, I think I'll hang onto this device for a while....and this is before I've done any more than flash CWM in preparation.
xReMiNGToN said:
I'm currently a Sprint employee and I work at an Indirect retailer/service & repair center. I'll be the first to admit that I have a serious phone addiction. I somehow end up getting all the new phones right when they launch and get to play with all the ones I don't get to carry personally. My family has a business plan with 17 lines so I'm always able to somehow squeeze and upgrade out, do a "Repair" swap to a comparable model, or employee purchase a phone.
My girlfriend has had an iPhone 4 since launch and even though I used to carry one for awhile I've grown to resent them. My first Android upon working here was a Samsung Epic which I loved at first (coming from an iPhone 3G) but as I loaded more apps on it I watched it become laggy and seen it develop quite an overheating problem. I was extremely close to going back with an iPhone then I found this site and began experimenting with rooting and custom roms and now I'm hooked.
So to flash forward since my Epic days (sorry I've been rambling) I've went from a Nexus S to a EVO 3D to a HTC Arrive (tried something new and yeah didn't work out) to a Motorola Photon and now finally a Galaxy S II. Needless to say every single phone I've had up until this one had issues I just couldn't cope with. My nexus got horrible signal wherever I was at and 3G was practically worthless. I was so hyped about the 3D and when it launched the first one I had was defective and my second would freeze and lag constantly. To top it all off about 30% of the ones we would sell were defective out of the box. It's hard to have love for a phone that you sell to someone only to see them come back the next day ready to rip your head off. After that I figured I'd try something new and went with an HTC Arrive. I'll spare you the details lets just say a week into it and I was done. So I decided to go with the Photon and for the most part I liked it other then the horrible UI (Customer Launchers saved me) and the silent call issue that plagued it.
I'd been reading about the GSII for awhile and once I heard it was coming to Sprint I had to make sure I could get it on Launch. Enough calls into Sprint got me my upgrade early and I took the bait and dove right in not knowing exactly what new "issues" I'd be getting myself into. It's been almost a week since I've had mine and I can say without a doubt that I've never ever owned a phone this amazing. Everything about it is superb from the screen, to the UI, and the sleek design. I haven't had NOT ONE single problem with this phone and to me that's saying something. Traditionally almost all of our Samsung devices have been crap. Plain and simple. This phone was bashed by all my coworkers before launch because of the bad name Samsung had made for themselves. Now they're just as amazed as I am. I don't feel myself looking forward to the next phone on the horizon I'm actually satisfied with what I have for once.
I know this post is nothing but rambling but honestly this phone is everything I've ever hoped for and more. Once the roms start pouring in I truly feel it will be a short while before this phone is dethroned as King. I guess I made this post just to see how everyone else was feeling about there phone and if anyone has had similar issues with past phones and now finds themselves satisfied.
This is my first post on here so don't flame me too hard =) Any thoughts/experiences would be appreciated especially from anyone else who shares my phone addiction lol

im an ex-employee so i totally feel you and your addiction. Its a serious issue, and an expensive one lol.
But yes your right. When I bought the 3d, my dude that still works there tried to talk me out of buying it. Because of the power and signal issues. Of course like a idiot I still did. Wanted to love that thing so bad.
Im going to also agree with you 1000%. This is my DREAM phone. Ive lost sleep over the s2. When i heard Sprint was getting it, I literally thought about nothing else than the Epic Touch, aside from women and money. This thing is awesome. ****t, the only thing I want is higher resolution, but even with that I love this phone. I cant imagine what the next one will be like, but for the FIRST time in my life, I AM TOTALLY SATISFIED WITH A PHONE!!!
Yes my addiction to crack started when I was..oh wait...your talking phones...Like you my friend I have had every phone you listed (except the Arrive...my god man what were you thinking!) and this is the best phone I have owned..hands down. No problems...yet. Great camera and fast. I love it!
I will agree. I was happy with the HTC Incredible based on what was available and told myself that no matter how bad I wanted a new phone no 'feature" would be worth the upgrade until dual-core chips hit. Yes I jumped on the LTE band wagon but quickly realized that was far from ready for daily use. Then they(dual-core) hit and man its been disappointing till the chip Samsung used( Exynos). That chip with the GPU totally blows anything else out of the water.
Maybe just stick to iphone if android gives you so much trouble? I'm pretty sure there are lots of users on this forum that use Epic1, Nexus S and Evo 3D with no problems.

I thought sprint employee don't get the phone untill 2 or three week because customer are the one paying the most and they should be the first to have it?.......I am under an employee account ( SWAC ) and sprint wouldn't let me buy the phone at all. They keep saying it's one of the disadvantage of being under this plan, but is more advantage than have a regular plan. God DAMN! I can't wait till is available to buy ( BUT WHEN?).........It was kinda funny on launch day I went to sprint store and they told I can't buy it cause I'm under employee account......I was like WTF! than why ya let me buy the gift card to reserve for the Epic 4G Touch?...they was like, well....who ever sold you that card should of known better, we are really sorry......I was like can I have my refund?......they said, No, we can't refund but you can use to buy any sprint product........I was like, can I use it to buy the phone when is available for SWAC plan?........they said, ummmm maybe... Sprint employees can't buy it yet. That's how it always is they have to wait a while before high end phones to become available to them. HOWEVER...one person per corporate store gets designated to be an advocate, and are responsible for making sure the staff is well informed on it and handling customer questions about it, and they get to keep the phone because of it. I was the advocate for the palm pre and OG Evo

He's not a Sprint employee. Indirect dealers are not Sprint employees, they work for a company that has a reseller agreement with Sprint.
He also said he has a family plan with 17 lines, so he got it on a non employee line, then moved it to his line. I know indirect employees get a discounted line, not sure how much it is though.

VZW CSRs pushing everything but the HTC One

I spent over 4 hours in a vzw store over the last couple days and found it really interesting that none of the CSR reps even spoke to their customers about the HTC One. They primarily pushed the S4 and iPhones. It was almost as if the phone didn't exist. The rep that sold me my HTC One was trying to convince me to buy the S4 instead.
I hope I made the right choice
Well, the phone just released yesterday, so I would imagine the CSRs didn't know a whole hell of a lot about it. The store here in Dallas had it setup as one of the main displays next to the new Droids, and they took me right to it when I asked about their new phones. The CSRs that weren't dealing with customers were even playing with it and praising it.
You didn't make a bad choice at all.

I like the form factor and feel of the One way more than the S4. Performance, they are about the same. Contrary to what everybody says, I actually like BlinkFeed. I just wish it had the battery life the S4 had, as I am not even halfway through my workday and it's hanging right above 50% from a full charge this morning (with minimal-normal use). I also think that the S4s stock radios perform better than the One, as I am noticing more often that my phone is being kicked back to 3G. Hopefully 4.3 addresses that.

I can tell you what might be the reason. When you work in sales manufacturers often offer incentives to push their product ie, larger commission percentage, cash bonuses etc. Samsung has put up quite a bit towards marketing.
Rest easy. You made the right choice.

Not sure actually, but if it's a part of HTC Sense, then the battery stats are showing that it's not using much battery at all.
I had the complete opposite experience. The guy in the Verizon store had nothing but praise for the One and said in his opinion it's the best Android phone to date.
I just think most CSR's just don't know a lot about the One yet and haven't really had a chance to play with it in depth.
I had an HTC One as a work phone for a short time on AT&T and love it, and I played with the HTC One on Verizon while I was in the store. I'm getting mine soon, can't wait.

So, the S4;s radios are better than the One's? I have an S4 now, and while the signal is ok, I don't know how the One would do in my area. I was planning on jumping on the One (still in my 14-day return period). Funny, I was at my local Verizon store, and they had both the One and S4 next to each other. I checked the signal on both, and the One had -103, while the S4 had -95. I found it interesting, because I've had a Thunderbolt and a Gnex, and the TB always had better signal than the GNex. I think you're right, though, the S4 radios seem to be better than the One's.
I work in a Vzw store and most of the time, it's easier to just sell someone an s4 or a iPhone just because EVERYONE has them and knows about them. It's tough talking someone in to a phone that none of their friends have. You have to realize that we're not the typical consumer, but you will usually be treated like one unless the rep realizes you're not and knows his ****. Most reps in store are sales people tho... not techy.

I think so I just usually put it on apps instead of highlights. So like that it wont load anything to it. But blink is pretty cool is like Flipboard but a little better.

That's a very valid point and since you are getting commissions, I can understand.

I guess at that point I would let the phones do the talking. I dont really like being pushed towards what everybody else has. To me, being asked personal questions is always nice. "What are you looking for in a phone?", "Do you need performance or battery life?", "Is having a good camera important to you?". I mean, I personally know what I want even before walking into the store, but it's still nice to find that sales rep that can play the process of elimination.
We usually only PUSH customers away from the iPhone, or in to phones that we need to move because they're dropping on the tier list or we need to move them before a new phone launches. When you work in this industry you begin to realize that generally every phone would work for every customers needs with a few exceptions. Like you said, usually most people come in already knowing what they want and we just go off that.
I think it depends on the store and the rep, when i went in the store my customer service rep was in front of the one debating about buying one himself. and he happily "pushed" the one on me.
The rep I dealt with said he didn't even have a chance to play with the One so he was pretty amazed with it.

Ive currently got a work HTC one and a personal S4... Got to say, the battery I have to give another day or so, but I will generally say it is worse.
The signal is definitely worse, especially when you hold it in your hand. Signal drops like a rock. Not that you need to hold the phone... but....
If those two things were not immensely important in a phone. I would be confident in the One. However since that is the basis of a mobile phone device. I am wondering how it put up such an equal fight on review sites. I'm thinking of not trading in my wife's rezound and having her keep it instead of getting a One for her. I've already decided the One is not for me.
I read the ad booklets that come in the Sunday paper this morning. Did not see anyone advertising the VZW ONE.
Didn't even see it in the Best But booklet.
